Greetings to the girls and boys from the ECB, especially our dear Lagarde Cool

2402  Economy / Economics / Re: New currency from BRICS countries on: March 31, 2023, 10:21:02 AM
Let's say then people will move the money that they put in to BTC for the currency. Because if they think it as a strong currency like you said.

Those who know the difference between Bitcoin and any other centralized currency will certainly not suddenly sell Bitcoin to invest in something backed by countries like China or Russia, especially if we consider the fact that these two countries are currently doing. Strong currencies are created over decades, they do not appear overnight and create some kind of instant dominance in the world.

The US, EU, UK, Australia, Japan, Canada and many other countries will certainly not accept this currency, and we are talking about the richest countries in the world. Don't be naive and don't believe in fairy tales Wink
2403  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pitching Bitcoin to a Whale Tank on: March 31, 2023, 09:59:44 AM
If you already imagined the year 2010 as some kind of example, then we should know that back then it was not necessary to buy Bitcoin, considering that everyone could mine it with their personal computer and only 20 mined blocks a day would bring you as much as 1000 BTC. In other words, you only needed a little knowledge and curiosity if you wanted to invest in Bitcoin back then.

However, I am not aware that at that early stage some famous people recognized Bitcoin as something worth investing in, although I know of some stories about how some "famous" people lost their BTC when Mt.Gox collapsed. Therefore, I conclude that there are few who know how to recognize the right opportunity in time, and it is not something that should be associated exclusively with Bitcoin.

In addition to all of the above, I don't think it would be good if the rich understood in time what it was all about, because Bitcoin was not designed to be bought by rich individuals or companies, but to be something completely different. The later they realized, the better for everyone else - because it is better for 100 000 people to have 1 BTC each, than for one person to own everything.
2404  Economy / Economics / Re: Elon Musk and others urge AI pause, citing 'risks to society' on: March 30, 2023, 03:07:58 PM
After the recent events of the  fake AI generated photo of Pope the risks to the society are clear.

The fact that someone played a little with the image of the Pope is the least problem that one should have when it comes to artificial intelligence. After all, the Pope is only human, subject to sin like any mortal. After I watched the documentary about the missing Vatican girl Emanuela Orlandi I concluded that a black suit would suit some people much better than a white one.

Risks must be correctly managed and there must be some kind of security protocols to avoid damage that chatgpt and others can do.

Mr. Mars and others like him had enough time and resources to do something about AI, and now that the genie has been released from the bottle, they are pretending to be smart and advocating some kind of break to do exactly what? I think that such things cannot be fixed in any sense of the word.
2405  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I never use wallet like a bank on: March 30, 2023, 02:12:37 PM
I understand the fear OP. We live in a very sensitive society, recently it has been discovered that new android OS versions which includes android operating systems running versions 11, 12, 12L, and 13 are vulnerable, reason they are advised to update when ever there is a new release.

All versions are vulnerable and this will not change, which is why it is important to regularly upgrade them with security patches. The only problem is that most smartphones stop receiving such patches after 2-3 years because they are no longer the priority of the manufacturer.

And with the numerous applications and malware circulating both on place store and the web one might just give in to hackers too cheaply. It is more safer offline or preferably on paper. Android users are just at the mercy of their operating systems.

I would not agree that it is only the operating system that should be blamed, because users are actually the ones who install various apps without even checking what they are actually about. I haven't had any problems with malicious apps on my smartphone, so I believe that anyone can achieve this if they only follow some basic rules. These rules are actually very simple and consist of not downloading apps that are relatively new and have a small number of downloads, and to also be careful what permissions you give to any app you install.
2406  Other / Meta / Re: Is Possible to withdraw report to moderator? on: March 30, 2023, 10:58:08 AM
Because I've mistakenly reported my post to a moderator by accident.

First time I read something like this, how did you manage to do it? On the other hand, maybe your post was really so bad it was worth reporting Wink Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about it, because the mods may have realized that it was a mistake and the report will simply remain unhandled.

damn, you're still around. ggwp

I'm indestructable in this game Cool

Do you plan to return to the game in some way? Since the closure of FaucetHub, we haven't had anything similar, except for EC who made an exit scam, as you suspected.
2408  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My Welcome Message :) on: March 30, 2023, 10:08:49 AM
To be honest. I feel like OP is using ChatGPT.

It is possible, although the results are very different if you analyze the text with any AI detector. It seemed to me that the OP was somehow unique, but time will tell if I was right in the end.
2409  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-03-27] CNBC: Bitcoin falls after CFTC sues crypto exchange on: March 30, 2023, 09:50:44 AM

What I'm thinking about when I read this topic is that it has something to do with the biggest exchange, Binance, and how it would really affect the image and would there be something behind the scenes that could have that FTX thing that it could collapse of some sort. I don't really know but it's definitely something to discuss.

No one is too big to fail, and of all the globally positioned CEX, the one you mention is certainly the one that is most talked about in a negative context. Some would say that it is only because the competition is trying to steal a part of their users, and some others would say that you cannot hide in the gray zone forever and that sooner or later you will become a target.

Generally speaking, such companies have turned into a ticking bomb and threatens to cause enormous damage if (and when) it explodes. The advice that is constantly repeated is even more relevant today, which is to not use any CEX as a wallet for storage, but only for trading.

The amount of withdrawn deposits from banks is slightly less than $300 billion in the US, and that's only in this month, and I already wrote in my previous post that money market funds profited the most from this. Probably some of that money went into Bitcoin and some altcoins, possibly into gold and bonds, which people still consider a much safer way of storing value than fiat.

Quote
Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and Fidelity are the biggest winners from investors pouring cash into US money market funds in the past two weeks as the collapse of two US regional banks and the bailout deal Credit Suisse have raised concerns about the security of bank deposits.

More than $286 billion has flowed into money market funds so far in March, making it the biggest month of inflows since the depths of the Covid-19 crisis, according to data provider EPFR.

Goldman’s US money market funds have taken in nearly $52 billion, an increase of 13%, since March 9, the day before US authorities took control of Silicon Valley Bank. JPMorgan funds received nearly $46 billion and Fidelity saw inflows of nearly $37 billion, iMoneyNet data showed Friday morning.

2411  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: ChipMixer.com has been seized. on: March 29, 2023, 03:22:21 PM
For all we know, it could be a bunch of movies they pirated.  It could be anything.

What we know is that these data contain all chips and vouchers, and we know this because some members of this forum have confirmed that their unspent funds are no longer in their possession. We can only speculate about everything else, and maybe the owner really was a big fan of movies in UHD format.
2412  Economy / Reputation / Re: How wide reaching can the consequences of Chipmixer money laundering be? on: March 29, 2023, 02:53:14 PM
Precisely. If any business was declared as a money launder or other criminal activity alleged against them, I would apply the only available logic and would stop participating in their signature campaigns. And add to that if allegations were made by forum members that they were scammed by any business I display in my avatar or signature then I will remove it and probably open (or at least participate) in a scam accusation thread.

The authorities in Germany and the US have clearly stated their opinion, and everything is written in a document that has been made public. Aside from what we here on the forum think about mixers in the context of privacy, some very powerful people think completely differently and consider such a way of privacy illegal. Therefore, everyone who has promoted CM over the years, and everyone who promotes any mixer today, is doing exactly the same thing - there is no difference or logical justification that one is different from the other.

I personally would not be worried about possibly being asked to hand over the received fees for the signature campaign but others might be. If asked by law enforcement agencies I would simply give it as I would not want to be viewed as a criminal or fugitive.

Having said, if law enforcement agencies made it clear they will ask Chipmixer signature campaign participants to send/surrender all funds they received from the Chipmixer signature campaign, I would immediately remove any mixer from my avatar and/or signature and never get involved with mixer campaigns again and that would only be because a precedent would have been set by the law enforcement agencies. As of yet, that has not happened.

Well, considering that the investigation was conducted for years, it is not realistic to expect that we will find out everything so quickly. At this moment, no one from the forum's administration has announced whether they received a request to hand over all the information that is of interest to the investigators, and even if it happened, there is no obligation for the admins to say it publicly.

I am missing something.

The answer was provided by another member, and I leave it to everyone to interpret it in their own way.

I didn’t know people still hang around for so long before creating an account.

It is not strange to me personally, because I also visited the forum as a guest about one year before I decided to register. It may seem unusual to some, but I think that in this way a person can learn some things and not make some initial mistakes when he registers on the forum and starts writing posts. I can't say with certainty, but probably the forum is visited by a fair number of users who are not members and for some reasons of their own they are not interested in the discussion but only in getting information from others.

@JazzyJester, welcome to the forum Smiley
2414  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: March 29, 2023, 11:10:17 AM
~snip~
With so many experienced and quality players, I am sure Dalic will bring Croatia to the finals in Germany.

Maybe the qualifications will not be crucial to achieve that goal, because Croatia is playing in the final four of the League of Nations this summer, and if they win that competition, they get an automatic ticket to Euro 2024.

Last night's game showed a lot of weaknesses in the Croatian team, especially in the first 15-20 minutes when Livakovic saved everything he could. In my opinion, definitely the player of the match, regardless of Kovacic's two goals.
2415  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Global Market Share Of Various Antivirus Software on: March 29, 2023, 10:55:05 AM
To find how good/bad an AV is - just Google search - antivirus software testing.

Why would I believe in some research that can be very subjective and paid for by the same company that turns out to be the "best choice" in the end? My approach is to personally test what I want to use, and considering that most such software provides a free period, then I decide what is best for me.

hey greenpeace do you close your eyes to all this shit

They will turn a blind eye to anything that does not coincide with their financial interests, but considering that they have become a very powerful global organization fighting for a "green planet", most people still believe that they are actually doing something good. One thing is certain, and that is that tehy will certainly not receive any donation from me, because I know a lot of ordinary people who are trying to change things for the better at the local level, and that should be the way we fight against pollution, for clean water and air.
2417  Economy / Reputation / Re: How wide reaching can the consequences of Chipmixer money laundering be? on: March 29, 2023, 10:32:24 AM
I guess you must not be too worried about the consequences at this point, right? Seeing as you are one of those participating in the highest paying campaign atm, which is also a mixer.

No I am not concerned because as with others I can make a distinction between promoting a service that provides privacy and one that could be misused if determined people (criminals) wanted to take advantage of, versus an out-and-out criminal enterprise.

If I get even the slightest bit of indication that either a scam or criminal enterprise is being promoted in my avatar or signature, I will remove them immediately. I had a very good deal with my long term signature partner and I am grateful for the opportunity to promote them but I moved on to whirlwind.money for now and will see how matters progress.
~snip~

Interesting thinking, although there is no logic at all in what you wrote. The only difference between what you are currently promoting (and it is a mixer) and the CM that has been seized is that the former has not yet been officially placed in the same category, or in other words it has not been officially declared a money laundering service.

You cannot know who is using the mixer that you are currently promoting, but in case you find out that some criminals used it for their dirty business, will you then be worried that you will have to return all the earnings and that guys from some three agency letters will knock on your door?

In addition, thanks to one of the members, we know the official position of the forum administration regarding mixers, which is a very clear message for those who know how to read between the lines.
2418  Other / Meta / Re: I bought a yacht thanks to bitcoin. on: March 28, 2023, 03:51:56 PM
I have noticed that there are a lot of threads in the Bitcoin Discussion section that consist of claiming to have invested in bitcoin in some way, without providing any proof, that end up getting merit.

It's nothing new, it's a trend that's been around for years and I rarely engage in such discussions because it's very difficult or almost impossible to judge whether a story is true or made up. There are cases where some evidence (photographs) is also posted, but I noticed that such "evidence" often reveals much more than it should, especially if it contains the faces of persons (often minors).

In the end, all you get is a bunch of people in the comments congratulating him on a made-up story. I'm not saying that all stories like this are made up, but it seems to me that somehow between the congratulatory comments and the merits, it encourages people to make up these stories.

Thoughts?

There are also honest comments, but most of them are signature spam, and there is also no doubt that such stories encourage others to share (or even invent) their own stories. Bitcoin discussion generally covers even such topics, but I think such topics would be more appropriate for Off topic or possibly in the Reputation board.

In my opinion, what is even more controversial in the whole story are the members who open a new topic for each personal success, even if it is a continuation of their past success. Let's see how it looks on the following example ->

Early bitcoin investment for my baby (14 March 2023)
Evidence that I actually invested for my baby (27 March 2023)

I reported another thread, so far it is unhandled.

i always remember this news,

Quote
Greenpeace accepted Bitcoin donations for seven years between 2014 and May 2021 before announcing it was halting the acceptance of Bitcoin donations, citing environmental concerns. Around the same time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stopped accepting Bitcoin payments for Tesla vehicles.

So it only took them 7 years to realize that they were wrong, and I sincerely doubt that they came to that conclusion on their own - because all those who still think that Mr. Mars did something good for Bitcoin, well look at how much damage he actually did with his idiotic statements about how bad Bitcoin is for the environment. I'm sure that at that time, under the influence of his statements, many people came to believe that Bitcoin is actually something bad, and unfortunately most still think so today.

And all this came from a man who fights for a "green planet" while at the same time buying cobalt from African mines where children work for $1 or $2 a day.
2420  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Global Market Share Of Various Antivirus Software on: March 28, 2023, 11:11:31 AM
This information is almost unimportant to me, because it does not show how good/bad an AV is, but only that a certain percentage of people use it.  Even if these data are correct, it only means that those companies that are at the top have cheaper products or better marketing, not necessarily that they are better than some other AVs that are not even mentioned in the list.

The average user is not qualified to evaluate the functionality or level of protection of a particular AV anyway, and the choice mainly boils down to the fact that the software is not too expensive and has an eye-pleasing interface.
