1421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy e-sim with bitcoin on: August 11, 2023, 10:54:05 AM
popular applications such as [snip]
i'm quite proud to be using unpopular message applications Cheesy

I'm not too fond of those apps either, but I simply don't have too many choices if I want to communicate with people who mostly use those apps. I know there are alternatives, but persuading people to use them is very difficult, similar to how most people still use Twitter (or is it called X now?) regardless of the alternatives.

I got my new phone a few years back, and I haven't given the actual telephone number to more than about 10 people IIRC. and very few actually use that number out of those who have it, almost all messaging/calls happen over internet-based comms for me. e-SIMs with no phone number seem to be a (belated) recognition of how meaningless the telephone system is these days, a few changes to my lifestyle and I think I could ditch telephones altogether

I also have a smartphone that is several years old and I paid about 700 EUR for it, and I still consider it a very good device, although unfortunately it has not received any update for more than 1 year. Unfortunately, the official specifications say that it does not support eSIM, but when the time comes for a new device, I will definitely pay attention that it also has that feature.

As for having a phone number, I obviously live in a country where it is almost necessary, whether it is to deliver a package (the delivery person always makes a call before delivery) or to receive notifications from a government service or even from your doctor.
1422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top Crypto Execs Confident SEC Will Approve Spot Bitcoin ETFs on: August 11, 2023, 10:35:31 AM
I strongly believe that SEC will eventually approve bitcoin ETF. It may not happen today or tomorrow but surely in the future. The way SEC and FBI is moving against the actual Bitcoin and other cryptos, they will have to make some alternatives available in the market before banning the actual assets.

As far as I know, the SEC has nothing against Bitcoin, or at least not to the extent that it attacks the shitcoins industry, and I don't know where you get that the FBI is going against Bitcoin?

ETFs are usually not settled physically so they will eliminate the crypto risk from the economy and also provide an option for the investors to enjoy the price changes of Bitcoin.

You seem to be a bit lost in this story, because here we are talking about spot BTC ETF, which means that funds will have to buy BTC in order to issue shares in the fund - and futures BTC ETFs are already approved in the US anyway.

Fair enough I guess. Spot ETF is definitely something else on its own, and for me, if I'm wrong I would be very happy with my mistake if this approval leads to the demand ETFs are supposed to bring Smiley

However, this is only an assumption, we will see the real results only if such an ETF is approved. What is definitely certain is that there is a big difference between futures and spot BTC ETF and that it is wrong to think that absolutely nothing will happen if such an ETF becomes available on the world's richest market.

No, they include 100 tx per hour into the next block they mine provided they meet certain conditions.

FREE Submission
ViaBTC will prioritize your transactions and include them in the next block we mine, provided the volume of this transaction must be ≤0.5 KB, and the transaction fee rate must be ≥ 0.0001 BTC/KB.

 I've used it many times.

I confirm that the thing still works, it has saved me many times and I hope it will continue to work in the future.
1425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top Crypto Execs Confident SEC Will Approve Spot Bitcoin ETFs on: August 10, 2023, 03:24:40 PM
~snip~
I promise you, just as with every ETF application or storyline, there will be no big pump after approval Smiley

I wouldn't bet that something like that won't happen, because companies that want spot BTC ETF are not amateurs who go into something without doing everything possible to succeed. I am primarily thinking of BlackRock and Fidelity, but also of many other smaller companies that are waiting for their opportunity in this business. In the event that the SEC approves such an ETF, the media will certainly do their job, and those companies will certainly allocate some funds to promote this way of investing in Bitcoin even more.

Talks about BTC ETF are one thing, and even approval for futures ETF - and spot ETF is something completely different, because in the event that investor interest is high, it means that demand will probably exceed supply.
1426  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your future in bitcointalk forum depends on your effort on: August 10, 2023, 02:17:39 PM
You're correct this forum isn't a career or education institution, but I think it's possible for someone especially live in third world country can change their life through signature campaign. There are many country still paying as low as $50 per month even though you're working overtime and under pressure.
But obviously it's funny to see this kind thread where it's not something that every user need to know.

Although the forum is a place for discussions and exchange of opinions, I don't know why many are so hypocritical and pretend that the financial profit they make with the help of this forum is not important to them. If that possibility were to be canceled for some reason, how long would the forum survive in the sense that maybe 10% of the current members would remain active?

We have to accept that the forum is much more than an ordinary forum and that some members experience it in a completely different way. This does not always have to be a bad thing, because only those who show a real desire to learn something and be part of the community will eventually get the opportunity to be rewarded by participating in signature campaigns along with acquiring knowledge and passing it on to others.
1427  Economy / Speculation / Re: Adam Back's Bullish Bet on: August 10, 2023, 10:54:48 AM
Considering the stake in the bet, I think it's just that the mentioned person wants to have some fun, because that's what rich people do when they're bored. Therefore, what the aforementioned people are betting on is completely meaningless, the price will be formed by supply and demand anyway - and the only event that can increase the price by more than 300% in such a short period is the approval of the spot BTC ETF in the US, with the condition that BR and all other funds start buying large amounts of BTC for their clients.

I suggest you don't play this game, because as @Tytanowy Janusz wrote this is a win-win situation for only one person and his company, for everyone else it's a complete waste of time.
1428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Imagine creating something revolutionary and just leaving lol on: August 10, 2023, 10:23:29 AM
I still wonder about it, can Satoshi control bitcoins?
~snip~

How could one person, even Satoshi, control Bitcoin when it was designed precisely to be decentralized? Asking such a question actually shows that you don't understand the basics at all, but that's actually a completely different story.

~snip~
It baffles me that someone could have such wealth and fortune and not even touch it for sooooo long. Could you imagine this forum shaking to its core if one of his wallets became active? That would he a sight to see.

It does not surprise me at all that someone can make such a move in life, but for most people it is truly inconceivable that someone did something so revolutionary and that he did not achieve financial benefit for himself personally. When we talk about the forum, it is completely irrelevant what would happen on the forum or outside the forum in the event that BTC is moved from one of the addresses that are connected to Satoshi - because that would not mean that Satoshi really appeared, but that maybe it is someone else came into possession of his private keys.

However, I don't think that someone like Satoshi was so sloppy that he didn't understand how important it is that this never happens, and that means that those keys are more than well protected or even destroyed.
1429  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread -- 2023/24 | Prelim Qualifiers on: August 10, 2023, 09:51:01 AM
~snip~

It is unbelievable to me that a relatively small group of people can do so much damage to football clubs, national states and cast such an ugly image on football. I think that these hooligans should not have even left Croatia, although according to some information some of the hooligans joined them in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Of course, now there is talk about the fact that AEK fans will want to take revenge for what happened, and these will be high-risk matches. To make matters worse, tonight is the first match of Hajduk Split against PAOK and according to some announcements, the Greek fans, with the help of their brothers from Serbia, are preparing to riot on the streets of Split.
1430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy e-sim with bitcoin on: August 10, 2023, 09:35:58 AM
~snip~
Although I'm not sure if that is something I need/ would ever need to do

If you are not traveling outside the country where you live, then you do not need this kind of service, and if you are going on such a trip, there is always the option of buying a local prepaid SIM card and using it during your stay in that country. For example, I do not need to buy an additional SIM if I travel within the European Union and the European Economic Area, because the roaming rules apply within that area, which means that I pay the same price for services as if I were in my own country.

~snip~
and also, phone number? who even uses those these day? Undecided

Given that you need a mobile number to use popular applications such as Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram, most people still have their own mobile number, and I don't believe that this will change so quickly, regardless of the new technologies that are already present. Of course, these applications can also be activated using a virtual number, but most people still choose the standard approach.
1431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy e-sim with bitcoin on: August 09, 2023, 03:59:54 PM
Cool, but your phone has to be eSIM compatible, and unfortunately most cheap smartphones are not.  If you click on "compatible devices" you will mostly see iPhones, newest Samsung phones and Google pixels.

This is true, even some more expensive smartphones that are 3-4 years old do not support eSIM, so this service is unfortunately unavailable for many. In addition I checked Bitrefill eSIM Global and the price for only 5 GB of data is even 76 EUR, which from my perspective is quite expensive considering that for that price I have almost 4 months of flat internet in my country. The prices for individual countries are of course lower, but it still seems to me that this service is a little overpriced.
1432  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can you tell me the best indicator for long term investment? on: August 09, 2023, 03:21:54 PM
Sorry, I forgot to mention what asset I was talking about, but you have guessed right. I invest in bitcoin for the long term, so my focus on this topic is about good indicators for investing in bitcoin.

A good indicator is certainly that Bitcoin was created in 2009 and today not only does it still exist, but it is worth thirty thousand times $ more than when it was created - or maybe $ is worth so much less Cheesy

The very fact that some powerful entrepreneurs, politicians and bankers have constantly attacked Bitcoin over the years and said that it is nothing and that it will turn into nothing, or that it is a mirage/rat poison squared, was enough for me to understand how afraid they are if they talk like that.

If you don't have enough indicators from the past, look at what people like Saylor, or companies like BlackRock used to say about Bitcoin in the past, and what they are saying today. Not that it should be a deciding factor, but I'm saying it's better that they realized it later rather than sooner.

Or even better, 5 blocks in 5 minutes, of course when you're not watching Roll Eyes
1434  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread -- 2023/24 | Prelim Qualifiers on: August 09, 2023, 02:58:02 PM
From what i read Dinamo's fans were not even allowed to travel due to UEFA restriction/ban. They got past the Greek border posing as regular tourists with cars. Tragic development but certainly not the first time something like this happens...the Super Cup next week is set to be played in Greece.
~snip~

The Croatian police informed all the countries through which these hooligans would pass, especially the Greek police, and even sent them the license plate numbers of the cars, but for some reason no one even tried to prevent them from practically reaching the stadium itself. In Greece, after all, mass dismissals of top police officials followed, because if they had done their job, this would certainly not have happened.

However, considering that Croatia and Greece are in the Schengen zone, it is obvious that criminals, hooligans or terrorists can freely cross the borders without any control. I say that all those involved should be punished most severely, but that no conclusions should be drawn before the investigation is completed - and in the riots, along with Dinamo ZG fans, Panathinaikos fans took part together with AEK fans - it is yet to be determined who committed the murder.

Unofficially, three Dinamo ZG fans were also injured with sharp objects, probably knives.
1435  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Imagine life if there was know bitcointalk like this forum on: August 09, 2023, 02:08:35 PM
Knowledge is more valuable than money. Imagine making $100 a week but not knowing a single principle about Bitcoin or even how the network works. That would be a loss for that person, because they will just run to greener pastures once the signature campaigns are no longer viable for whatever reason.
But learning about Bitcoin is helpful, because that enables you to actually make use of it (and not lose it).

I don't have to imagine it, it happens in front of our eyes every day because some forum members are not here to learn something, but exclusively to try to earn something. Exceptions always exist, but this forum is perceived in some countries of the world exclusively as a place for making money.

I will not say that we should support such an approach to the forum, but a man who is hungry and lives in difficult conditions, unfortunately, cannot think of knowledge, but only of how to earn money to feed himself and his family. In the long term, we can consider it a success even if someone came to the forum exclusively for money, tried to go that way and still at some point decided on a different approach which is certainly better than disappointment and giving up.
1436  Economy / Economics / Re: [DISCUSSION] Bitcoin, Fiat, Inflation, Default on: August 09, 2023, 10:31:05 AM
When I look at the list, I am not personally surprised that some countries are bankrupt and cannot repay their debts, although I am surprised that there is a large country like Argentina, and even more so that Greece, as a member of the European Union and the Eurozone, is among such countries.

Given that Greece is the closest to me and I know the most about this case, I can only say that their politicians are to blame for their situation, who actually did everything for the country to get into such a situation, enabling the country to live far beyond its means in an attempt to buy civil peace. The stories say that the Greeks had some of the biggest and strangest benefits, especially when it comes to the public/state sector - and now they have debts that will burden them for the next 40 years.

The issue of Bitcoin as a solution in such complicated situations is for me personally rather frivolous, because regardless of whether people use fiat, Bitcoin or gold, the most important thing is how the system is set up and who manages it. El Salvador is an example that, at least for now, shows that Bitcoin is not a magic solution, although many forget that country has had the US dollar as its national currency for more than 20 years and that BTC is just an additional choice, which by all indications is used by very few people in that country.

As for Bitcoin as a global currency accepted by all major and important countries, this is something that will probably never happen because every country will always protect their national currencies with the help of which they have control over their economies and the people they rule.
1437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top Crypto Execs Confident SEC Will Approve Spot Bitcoin ETFs on: August 09, 2023, 09:42:41 AM
All eyes are on the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as it mulls a number of applications for a spot Bitcoin exchange traded fund (ETF), and two leading names in crypto are now publicly predicting that the agency will eventually give them a green light.

There are no leading names here, regardless of the fact that the media and people like you give them space and additional promotion. The people we're talking about here are just looking for a way to constantly be in the public eye to promote themselves and their companies, and their opinion about the ETF has no meaning or influence on the final decision.

Also, is the present pump on bitcoin caused by speculation on Ark's ETF application which is scheduled for approval on August 13?

What kind of pump are you talking about - 2% in 24 hours you call a pump? If anyone gets approval for that ETF, it will surely be the company that has the best connections with the US government, and it is certainly not some secondary company that reduces the value of the assets it manages by almost $35 billion in a year.
1438  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Petition to investigate Freewallet org scam on: August 08, 2023, 02:31:19 PM
I think that this is the only way to legally stop them, and that anyone who is their victim should report it to the competent authorities in their country and thus indicate that something really needs to be done. The authorities usually do not react when someone reports that they have been defrauded for a small amount, but when we look at the accumulated amount, this is a case that should be of interest to many agencies that fight against organized crime.

@stafstor, there is information that this company is registered in Estonia and that it has a completely different owner, although this may be outdated information.

Freewallet is based in Tallinn, Estonia and was created by Alvin Hagg.
1439  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 08, 2023, 02:15:46 PM
I think after the next bull run only institutional investors will be able to hold a full Bitcoin. The price will be out of reach for most of the retail investors.

Do you think everyone will sell to institutional investors? I don't agree that it will be like that, because plan B is to not sell BTC even when they offer us some crazy amounts for it. Besides, if you can use BTC to pay for services and goods, the question arises, why sell?

1440  Economy / Economics / Re: Big companies will never let you have the financial freedom on: August 08, 2023, 02:02:11 PM
~snip~
You just cannot trust these stablecoins or altcoins, as most of them are made, not to give us financial freedom but for their own benefit.
Only Bitcoin is the one on which we can trust.

You sound disappointed as if you just realized this (although I hope that's not the case), but the system has always looked at ordinary people as consumables, whether you consider the Middle Ages or the period 100 years ago or what we have today. Financial independence would be a complete disaster for those at the top of the pyramid, because centralized currencies are one of the most effective mechanisms of controlling the masses through all the long instruments that directly derive from them.

It is true that stablecoins are one of the biggest follies that people have accepted because they consider them an easy and simple way to transfer value, but they are neither stable, nor secure, nor nearly as much as most people think. Altcoins are definitely a story for themselves, because as I commented the other day in another topic, I don't consider them to be anything other than tokens for gambling in a game called Pump&Dump.
