nice work.
2464  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: May 26, 2013, 11:54:07 AM
Mad props and huge thanks to Sitarow who has given me uninterrupted remote access to an avalon this past week, including the ability to power cycle one  Grin. This has allowed me to write a major overhaul of the avalon code which should make it into the next cgminer release.

Thank you.

The time and effort made by people like kano and yourself on getting cgminer and other similar miners refined is very much appreciated.

This holds true even by those that may not directly participate in mining.

However new "miners" should not forget efforts spent to refine projects like cgminer will further decentralize ASIC hardware access and promote other DIY projects down the road.
2465  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AVALON BATCH #1 ORDERS Anyone Else STILL WAITING? Yifu PLEASE RESPOND on: May 25, 2013, 06:55:02 PM

I was one of the first people invest in your terrific products - I REALLY NEED the rest of my order

CAN YOU PLEASE SEND THE REMAINING UNITS ASAP

or AT LEAST PROVIDE SOME SORT OF EXPLANATION as to How Much Longer?Huh and WHY ITS TAKING SO LONG???

please I am trying to be patient, I Respect you guys a great deal, but  the difficulty is Rising quickly and I NEED the REST of my Order

Please RESPOND! I Beg you!!!
How many did you order?
2466  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [BitAxe.ca] ASIC Mining Equipment Manufacturer - JUST LAUNCHED!! on: May 25, 2013, 04:11:10 PM
My current plan is to purchase several Bitburners with the 200 chips I have purchased in Zefir's group 2 buy.  But seeing this as an option is interesting because I could save from the European taxes, since I am located in the GTA. But beating that "German Engineering" will be difficult in my eyes. I, having an electrical background, believe it should matter what type of circuitry one uses; I would hope Japanese Smiley

-So where were these boards made? Can we get some specifications on them?
-And correct me if I am wrong, but I didn't notice any mention to a cooling device and/or system?
-When was the purchase of your Avalon chips? I would like to decide if I shall send my order to your company or not.
-I see your company is eager to sell, but why no mention of a warranty?  Bitburners come with a 2 year warranty I believe.

No not at all. I will do this in person.

Sitarow I am not sure where you are located, but I would like to give you a "Vote" towards verifying thier identities, along with some other things no doubt. Since it does mention on thier website's FAQ page that "one hero member of the community's choosing" would be able to do this.

Thank you.

I have spoken with one of the reps from the company and will be schedualing a meeting with them.

At this stage of the game however the urgency is only once Avalon start to send out the ASIC chips.

I am willing to "test" their board by having them potentially repair one of the modules in my Avalon unit. At least that would show that the boards work.
2467  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [BitAxe.ca] ASIC Mining Equipment Manufacturer - JUST LAUNCHED!! on: May 25, 2013, 08:00:40 AM

Get them to look at as in...send to them, never to be seen again?

No not at all. I will do this in person.
2468  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [BitAxe.ca] ASIC Mining Equipment Manufacturer - JUST LAUNCHED!! on: May 25, 2013, 07:15:01 AM
I think your prices are steep. Steamboat's group buy is providing completed PCBs for ~$100 - not to mention 16 rather than 10 ASIC pads per card. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=192916.0

They may not have been aware of the other DIY projects on the go.

I am happy to say that I was able to speak with a real human tonight.

After speaking with them on the phone I may be getting them to look at the defective unit.

As a Canadian DIY Avalon Startup I wish them success.

I may even get them to build 2 extra modules for my units....

However like they had posted, presently they have to wait on Avalon ASIC Chips before they get to that stage.

I'm not an engineer (tho many here are), but how can you be 100% sure these will work when you haven't yet had a chance to try putting Avalon's chips in them?  All the other DIY Avalon producers say they are waiting on sample chips to make final adjustments & ensure they hash correctly.

Honestly we are trusting Avalon's design. The manufacturer is established and high quality, so that is not a risk at all. If there is a  manufacturer's defect we will rectify the situation.

Well I have one of my boards with 5 dead chips.
Perhaps you can at least provide Avalon local support?

P.S.

Reply when you can to the pm I sent Smiley
Sorry to get off topic but how do you know 5 chips are dead.

Not sure if they are dead but rather not reporting.

Post for failed chips.

Bullshit-detector is pegging pretty hard into the red.

Why do you say that?

I literally have a pile of PCB's and components sitting next to me. I have been waiting all day for the FedEx man to deliver the PCB's. Its been a good day.

2472  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religious beliefs on bitcoin on: May 24, 2013, 03:49:47 AM
I introduced bitcoin to a friend and they started talking about how the bible predicts a currency take over and its the start of the Revelation.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

I have had people say things like that to me, not that I'd label it a problem. But I can certainly understand where this is coming from. When I was much younger, and still under the influence of the religious views of others, I recall hearing about the "Mark of the Beast" and, probably more than 20 years ago, had discussions with people about implanting chips in our bodies to use as money. I used to tell myself, "No way! I'd never do that. I'd die first!". I'm much wiser today. Most people aren't.

When I look back at all of the atrocities committed by mankind recently and throughout the millennia, I find that most of them were done in the name of religion. I can see time, after time, after time again, where people were basically brainwashed into doing what was right for the religious leaders but far from righteous. I can see now how a prophecy of something like Bitcoin could scare these leaders. I can see now why we might be lead to believe this is the Mark of the Beast and should avoid it at all costs, when really it's just a matter of self preservation for the unrighteous leaders of church and state.

As far as the "problem" goes, don't worry about it. You cannot argue with irrational people so don't even try. These people, as nice as they might be, are sheep. They have proven that by their current belief systems. And just like sheep, when the world begins adopting Bitcoin, they too will fall in line. Try to find better people to have philosophical discussions with and stick to talking sports and weather with these types.

Who knows your friend may be onto something, out of the mouth of babes.

I do not think the reference to the mark of the beast, is correct for this situation.

Perhaps your friend was suggesting a relation between Bitcoin playing the role of a catalyst for the vision described in the book of Daniel Chapter 2.

"The second chapter of Daniel contains the prophetic vision (received by King Nebuchadnezzar) of the great image that Daniel by inspiration showed to represent the march of Gentile world powers, ending with their destruction by the Kingdom set up by “the God of heaven,” which Kingdom then rules earth wide."

http://biblehub.com/daniel/2-34.htm
http://biblehub.com/daniel/2-35.htm

"34 You kept on looking until a stone was cut out not by hands, and it struck the image on its feet of iron and of molded clay and crushed them."

"35 At that time the iron, the molded clay, the copper, the silver and the gold were, all together, crushed and became like the chaff from the summer threshing floor, and the wind carried them away so that no trace at all was found of them. And as for the stone that struck the image, it became a large mountain and filled the whole earth."

Daniels vision today is expected to serve as a prophetic precursor to events still to occur. We can only speculate as to what it will be (hind site is 20/20 after all).

Edit: Photo Update

The image depicts the succession of world powers starting with Babylon and ending with all of them being crushed and replaced by the Kingdom of God (2:1-49)

It is believed that the iron, the molded clay, the copper, the silver and the gold are a reflection of today's fractured political and economic global condition.

Like elements poorly forged together, it would take little effort, in this case Bitcoin and its adoption, to bring change to today's current economic, financial, and political global landscape.

If you would like to read more about the book of Daniel and come to your own conclusions regarding it's implications for the future, then give this link a read.

Listen to the Bible in your language online.

Edit: Some may find the image depicted below humorous.

2473  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: ANUBIS - a CGMINER Web Frontend on: May 24, 2013, 02:49:49 AM
If anyone is interested in an automated anubis install script:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/anubisauto/files/?source=navbar
This should work on any aptitude capable distro, it does install apache and mysql and sets right users/passwords. It uses P_Sheps git to get fresh version of anubis.

I was thinking of making a small linux distro, probably ~500 megs with anubis and cacti cgminer template from JinTu (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76502.0) for peeps without linux knowledge, to boot from thumb drives. Anyone interested?

That would help keep this project fresh.

there was just a single sell of 650BTC that obliterated the wall at 122  Shocked

Why would anybody sell such an amount now? It doesn't make sense to me.

This reminds me of the time when the price jumped between $4.8 and $6.4 for some time after we hit the $2 low.

2478  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASX Project on: May 20, 2013, 08:06:05 AM
what i don't get is why people still might think kncminer is legit

Well they are now down to 7 units as of 8pm 5/19/2013

Unlike KNCminer  the ASXProject admins still do not have SSL verification cert on their site however they claim to be working towards it.

Last I checked they are no longer processing payments with Bitpay.

I along with others truly hope that these claims are real.

However caution is needed here.

This means nothing without direct proof that their devices actually exist and work. It would take me about 20 minutes to set up a cart with a "product" with an inventory counter.

Dont send your money until there is proof

What you say is true however how does one get proof? In the end it all comes down to trust.

At this stage I personally consider it a step of good faith for them to validate their identity at least to a 3rd party like Bitpay.

Then in good faith they can deal with the vendor directly in a private way and be a liaison for the customer. If they validate their location and control of the project domain and other things then this would instill confidence with those involved are making a real effort to gain trust of their potential customers.

Who knows maybe the gentlemen behind the “ASXproject” directly may be 100% sincere, however the people who they are getting to build the unit is not upfront with them about the difficulty associated with such projects.

Consider the similarities to Avalon's first batch order of 300, they claim that they are past the prototype stage and now need funding for the actual product.

They claim to have taken steps to help expedite the project with the goal of getting a working device out to a 3rd party; they reduced their initial batch down to 100 Modules from the 100-250 units.

I can understand the need for anonymity associated with these projects.

However there is also another option available. A potential project could start of by having someone like “ckolivas” connect remotely to a laptop with nothing but ubuntu installed along with their software drivers and have the unit plugged into the laptop usb port.

Then give them root access on the laptop to get the thing running with the projects instructions. Also grant them power on off control of the device via a web power control switch.

Then have “ckolivas” update the community on the results.

When you consider what was said at this weekend’s conference by the team behind the Avalon ASIC, They have to deal with staff security and the need to exercise a measure of privacy for safety sake.

To meet these two objectives should be a priority for any company expecting customers to “finance” their projects.

Factor in the lack of community involvement, identity validation by 3rd party, only adds to skepticism regarding any claims they have of delivering a finished working product to the preorder clients in the end.

If gen2 avalon comes before BFL ships they're toast.

Well my best guess is that they will have the Next Gen announcement some time in late June.

Then we will see those chips in circulation one way or another by November.
