2481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: help me understand GLBSE and mining operations. on: June 02, 2012, 11:05:21 AM
By providing your personal info.

well that part is easy enough... hi! Arklan Uth Oslin, at your service. no, really. stop looking at me like that. that's really my name. as it's pretty unique, most of the google results for it are, in fact, me.

as to the rest - fair nuff. and i didn't just learn about bitcoin. i've been actively lurking (heh.) around here for about a year now. only started posting recently. as to the competition part - yea. very good point.

edit - spelling
2482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / help me understand GLBSE and mining operations. on: June 02, 2012, 10:03:51 AM
So, I am fortunate enough to live in Kansas City, MO with an electric rate of about $.06 per kWh. As such I want to build out a mining operation. My current thinking is to get the best FPGA's I can (using the TML bit stream for best results, depending on what Lancelot's offer) though in the long term that may change with the ASIC's from BFL being announced.

Right now my meat space job barely covers my monthly expenses, and due to several years unemployment, my credit sucks so I can’t just throw the charges on a credit card.

So, my thinking is offer bonds and shares to raise the initial funds to buy enough FPGA's to add 5ghash.

The part I don't get about GLBSE - knowing Bitcoin is irreversible and the like, what makes anyone trust anyone? I mean, how can it function at all?

I personally have no intention of scamming or taking the BTC and running or such - I love Bitcoin and what it's about and want to be a bigger part of it then my money allows. But what makes you guys believe that? how do I generate any trust?

with the TML bitstream, if i understand it all right, your 800 Mhash set up just passed 1040, even after his commission. interestingimes.

Correct Smiley

dang it! you qouted my typo "interesting times" i meant. but now i can't go edit it! my shame shall live forever.  Cry (doubly so since i'm qouting to too now! oh no!)
2484  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Algorithmically placed FPGA miner: 245MH/s/chip and still rising on: June 01, 2012, 12:56:04 PM
while i wouldn't throw a term like greed around lightly, (we're all here mining bitcoins intending to make money after all, aren't we?) the potential for the commision could be substantial, yea. but then, as the last couple weeks clearly show, there could be some other development just around the corner that leads to everyone dropping this bitstream over night, since it's freely available software. no one's going to hesitate to update ot the next big bitstream. i don't hold any kind of malice towards somone wanting to make what they can from their work, while they can, knowing it could evaproate like that.
2485  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Algorithmically placed FPGA miner: 245MH/s/chip and still rising on: June 01, 2012, 09:14:56 AM
28nm fpga's out doing BFL's asic... man, if that's actually potentially possible (which by all i've read seems it's a bit of a toss up right now) the next 6 months or so are gonna prove fascinating.

mines showing 9:28 to go... which placesit approximately on target for midnight pacific time.

here are 2 pics taken from one of my rigs..

Haha, that's an inside joke on my robotics team that nobody here will get. Cool

was my first thought actually.

probably people switching, like the above poster. not everyone's going to say anything when they do.
2491  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 3D Solar Powered Rigs In Africa on: May 30, 2012, 08:54:22 PM
I know people that are in Africa, close friends of mine who are building a school with solar powered energy. The land is bought the school has begun building. Teachers and workers are available for hire. This isn't just an out of the blue idea the project is already underway I'm just considering whether implementing bitcoins into the equation would be profitable. It would also bring in revenue for the school and this is not a bamboo school for anyone who is culturally conditioned, this school will be solar powered and very up to date with the latest technology. So as of now I'm just looking into information nothing is set in stone and I haven't begun really asking for investments yet.

see, now that makes it a much more interesting discussion. one i'm not qualified to have. but interesting, still.
2492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 3D Solar Powered Rigs In Africa on: May 30, 2012, 07:54:15 PM
well the question is, do you LIVE in africa, or would you have ot pay someone else to build, install, mantain and provide security for this? if you're simply after plentiful sunlight, africa doesn't have a lock on all of that.

the problem you'll have, even with low power fpga's, is that powering enough of them, their cooling, and internet access, all off solar/wind (why limit yourself ot solar?) is a significant invesntment in solar/wind tech. so, over the long term it's a great idea, as we see with diablod3 planning to do precisely this. it just takes a big slam of cpatial up front to really make it viable and pay off the investment in any reasonable time.

and with things as they are (the ASIC discussion and the end of year halving of value) there's alot of potential flux in the long term difficulty/price, so a investment on this scale has risks that simple setting up a few dozen rigs/fpga's in your home and using cheap electricity doesn't.

but, in short: it's doable, sure. just risky.
2493  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitForce SC - full custom ASIC on: May 30, 2012, 04:36:02 AM
my concern is if you could deliver your products from inside EU (Europe).

I have said this MULTIPLE times.

It is the only thing preventing me emptying out my bank account with BFL products Kiss

For 5% and shipping, I'd be happy to forward them to you guys.

was thinkin the same thing...
2494  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitForce SC - full custom ASIC on: May 29, 2012, 05:19:02 PM
Entertaining how people are pulling random numbers out of a hat for the hashing value of this non-existent chip. BFL, if they are indeed going through with this, could make a large chip or a bunch of tiny chips. All that matters in the end is the $/MH and MH/W ratios for the final consumer product.

<snip>

i agree completely. until we have even an 2estimated target, preformance wise, it's all speculation and guesswork. and given the singles and their estimate/reality relationship, i'll personally that eve nthat with a grain of salt.

As seemingly inappropriate as this is... I HATE ORPHANS!  Embarrassed

shit - laughed so loud i woke the neighbors!

though, yea. agreement.

ok, yea... that got some laughs out of me, d3.
2497  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: X6500 Custom FPGA Miner on: May 25, 2012, 11:31:52 PM
pondering picking up some of these. what kind of time frame would i be looking at for an order of ten or so?

For an order of 10 boards, we could ship the next business day. As I said above, heatsink availability may be a problem, though. Please email sales@fpgamining.com to discuss bulk prices!

good to know. thanks.

p2pmining.com worked wonders for my 90mhash nivida card, so if you want ot use p2pool with 100mhash, thats the way to do it.
2500  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: May 25, 2012, 06:12:44 PM
i recall seeing that conversation somewhere on these boards already, enmaku... suffice to say - a lot. Cheesy
