2502  Other / Meta / Re: Is this where people come to ask for absolution of their sins? on: September 12, 2014, 02:04:26 PM
This is indeed where they ask, but it is not where they receive. The forum sages are wise and benevolent, but they are not forgiving. Thou must seek forgiveness from those thou hast offended, and right what thou hast wronged. Only through this path wilt thou be absolved.

In the future, it would be wise to show discretion in the altcoin forum, for it is populated by those who reject the wisdom of Satoshi. Mingle with the infidels at thine own peril.

Bumping to see if anyone else was eliminated. Also the leaderboard and orange numbers, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
2505  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why was 21 million ? on: September 05, 2014, 06:47:57 AM
There's also the fact that 21 million is within an order of magnitude of the maximum number (67,108,863.99999999) that can be precisely represented to 8 decimal places in double-precision floating-point format. That's probably not a coincidence.
2506  Other / Off-topic / Re: Ban dihydrogen monoxide! on: September 05, 2014, 01:49:27 AM
Dihydrogen monoxide is also used in the manufacture of alcoholic beverages, and despite the manufacturers best efforts to remove it from the finished product, many popular alcoholic beverages remain contaminated with very high levels of DHMO. Worse, some drinkers have been known to intentionally mix alcohol and DHMO, in the belief that DHMO will reduce the alcohol's intoxicating effects.

What is that gadget below the mobile phone?
It's a particle accelerator, which was a well-known technology back when Star Trek was produced, and bears no resemblance to the antimatter reactor depicted on the left, which is not a real technology and likely never will be. Partly because of the problems of safely containing antimatter (indeed, it seems every other episode the Enterprise is in danger of spontaneous combustion for this exact reason), but mostly because antimatter doesn't even exist in nature (a fact which is puzzling to physicists, but damned inconvenient for starship captains looking for a place to refuel).
2508  Other / Off-topic / Re: Universe Sandbox (awesome galaxy simulating software) on: September 01, 2014, 02:20:29 AM
So can anyone explain why an object of larger mass/density and thus exerting more gravity would eject other objects instead of the objects crashing into it?
Gravitational slingshot. In fact, the end result of a gravitational slingshot is approximately the same as if the objects actually did crash into each other, but bounced off elastically. Since objects in orbit are already moving at extremely high speed, they get flung out at extremely high speed when this happens (conservation of energy).
2509  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 2014 USD/mBTC Price Prediction Contest on: September 01, 2014, 01:32:23 AM
What a month that was. Did anyone else get eliminated? In any case, that's 53.5042 points for me, putting my total score at 59.8316 points. That'll take some beating.
2510  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 2014 USD/mBTC Price Prediction Contest on: August 31, 2014, 03:29:05 PM
Prediction sent. I'm feeling confident.

I wanted to go out because the rally started, not with the price going too low Sad
We all do.
2511  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 2014 USD/mBTC Price Prediction Contest on: August 31, 2014, 06:06:38 AM
foxpup will do very well if no BTC rally starts in the next weeks...
Or the next hours. Wink Sorry, wachtwoord.

I think I'm going hold off on my next prediction until I know how much effort I need to put into it.
2512  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: libBase58 C++ implementation on: August 30, 2014, 11:48:49 AM
I don't get it either. I would have expected it to take only the last two arguments and return a pointer to a newly created string (or a null pointer in the event of failure). Requiring a string to already be allocated makes no damn sense, since there's no way to know how large the string needs to be before the function is called (an upper bound can be computed, but that's inelegant and slightly wasteful). I also don't see why it needs to modify b58sz, since the resulting string is null terminated, so its length can be trivially determined anyway. The whole thing makes no sense.
2513  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 2014 USD/mBTC Price Prediction Contest on: August 29, 2014, 02:05:00 PM
May I ask how much you'll get if we stay above 501 USD at the end of this month? Wink
In two out of the four predictions for this month, I assigned the highest probability to the $501-$562 range, in which case I'll get a slightly less monstrous score of 8.60 points this round, for a grand total of 14.93 points. I'm a long-term bull, but I can smell a crash coming a mile away. I can also smell the sweet scent of victory. Grin
2514  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 2014 USD/mBTC Price Prediction Contest on: August 29, 2014, 08:20:24 AM
lol, I was kinda hoping that we would go below 501 USD (no offence wachtwoord) but now that I know you will get >50 points, I hope it won't happen Tongue
I don't care. Just as long as it's below $501 next month, in which case I'll get >500 points. Hey, wait a minute... Take a closer look at the orange numbers. Did everybody except for us put 0.0001% for everything below $501? These numbers don't make sense otherwise. Undecided
2515  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 2014 USD/mBTC Price Prediction Contest on: August 29, 2014, 02:01:06 AM
but... below 501.19 USD I get... 14.27 points!!

thats just crazy and means everyone was an uber bull here Tongue
Not everyone. Put away your exclamation points; if you think that's a winning score, you're mistaken. Below $501, I get 53.50 points. Looks like this fox is going to take the lead... if he hasn't already taken it... dammit, where's that leaderboard? Angry

If I have not supplied the orange numbers for the month, in 24 hours of the timestamp of this post, the competition will end immediately, so that every entry is deemed the winner.
I'm watching you.

2518  Other / Off-topic / Re: We'd love board feedback on our concept: Combined Heating and Computation on: August 26, 2014, 04:43:34 PM
Do you honestly expect anyone to believe such nonsense?
2519  Other / Off-topic / Re: We'd love board feedback on our concept: Combined Heating and Computation on: August 25, 2014, 11:26:59 PM
I don't get it. Why would anybody in their right mind want to heat a building using the waste heat from electrical devices when it's far more energy efficient to just use a heat pump? Huh

You can't. Create a new key and take better care of it next time.
