2541  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I accidentally the whole thing ... I sent btc to my dvc wallet. on: January 26, 2014, 10:13:02 AM
Hey guys,

I have been alt coin trading for a few weeks now and yesterday I made a massive mistake.

I sent 0.9btc to my dev coin wallet on vircurex. I have made similar mistakes before but usually it gets rejected. However this one got processed! I checked the blockchain info and it is still getting confirmations, but I obviously can't access the money. I spoke to the vircurex guy and he said the Devcoin doesn't have a "dumprivkey feature" which would reject coin deposits if it was the incorrect coin.

Is there any way to recover the coins? I worked hard for those Tongue

Thanks in advance.

The only thing you can do now is contact vircurex.
Only the site has the private key to the address.

Do you have any clue now?
2543  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 90 BTC stolen! on: January 26, 2014, 10:07:12 AM
I need your help!

I have 2 bitcoin-qt wallets, and yestarday one single transaction happened to both of my wallets and my 90 some BTCs were transferred out of my wallets. I don't know what happened and if it's possible to recover. The blockchain information is as follows:

https://blockchain.info/tx/32d070a547e9d2cc2de4dc453cea27789bf33f1c983ffdc7f28ce3419e70c9d5

On my wallet client software, in the transaction record column, the "address" shows a n/a, and the summary shows a double direction arrow.

How can two wallets be made to transact at the same time with a single transaction? The two addresses are as follows:

1CLn42dHFuXAd7o9bgrsCRmfDvLavRoxTq
1H4esgi6KwhDtVXZXJ12AS7QEwdeQighn4

Is it possible to track down the thief and recover my lost?

Truly,
Philip
hsszzm@mail.sysu.edu.cn

Sorry to hear your loss.

Have your wallets been encrypted?
Have you stored some unencrypted backups somewhere online (emails / dropbox / etc)?

Do we need to change this thread title to $1500?

No worries.
People have already made a thread for $10,000 back in Dec. Cheesy

2545  Other / Meta / Re: What does it take to go from Newbie to Jr Member status? Number of posts? on: January 26, 2014, 09:52:40 AM
So I need 30 posts?  Shocked

To get 30 activity, you need both 1 and 2:
1. at least 30 posts
2. at least 2 "two-week periods" in which you've posted since your registration

So, yes, you need 30 posts, but not only that.
2546  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie question about private and public keys on: January 26, 2014, 09:46:50 AM

This is a good illustration on the problem.
Where is it originally from?
2547  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: will the bitcoin reach $1000 one day...? on: January 26, 2014, 09:43:27 AM
Guess it has been and gone!

Yup, it did get over $1000.
And this thread was created back in June, and btc price reached $1000 just 5 months later (BitStamp price) Tongue
2548  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do free faucets pay ? on: January 26, 2014, 09:39:43 AM
I have seen free Bitcoin faucets like freebitco.in, coinlearn.org or coinchat.org and people say they do pay. But how do they ? Just inquisitive...

They pay out dust for hours if not days of work, and they get their money from ads etc. They're not worth your time.

Yep... but both of us are selling our signature space to earn that dust only ...right ?

Not exactly lol.
hilariousandco has over 4000 posts, so I am pretty sure he gets more than dust Cheesy

Damn this dude mr. hilarious spam like a boss  Grin

2549  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MtGox withdrawal bank account still "Validating" on: January 26, 2014, 09:37:17 AM
I made the mistake of trying to withdraw USD from mtgox a few months ago. I'll never try that again.

How long does your withdrawal eventually take?
2550  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MtGox withdrawal bank account still "Validating" on: January 26, 2014, 09:35:54 AM
Guys, you should really stay away from gox...

Yeah, no shit. Somebody please link me to where somebody has said something positive about using mt gox, because I haven't seen any.

I can't really understand why mtgox is still in business.
Why would you sell your bitcoin there if you need to wait for months for your USD?
Why would you buy your bitcoin there if you are paying 100+ USD more for each btc?

I can't understand it either. People need to just ditch it alltogether.

I believe people are ditching it but it was the largest btc exchanger not so long ago.

Many people still have their funds trapped there.

I know a lot of people have stuck withdrawals.

But the problem is, who is still trading btc there?
At the moment of posting, I can see "Vol:7060 BTC" on mtgox webpage, are those fake trades?
2551  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do we really need so many kinds of coins? on: January 26, 2014, 09:30:29 AM
Problem is that they're all just clones....

But, some people just keep thinking "Oh, xxx coins have a bright future, and will be the new bitcoin" lol.

Doesn't anyone have any original ideas?

Yes, there are a tiny fraction of alt-coins that have real innovative features.
But sadly, 99% of them are just clones.
2552  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Faucets do pay on: January 26, 2014, 09:18:26 AM
Some of those faucets do pay, but they only pay out some dust.
It maybe useful for newcomers to start with, and learn how bitcoin transaction works, but the amount is very low and just doesn't worth it.
2553  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Backing up wallet on: January 26, 2014, 09:12:35 AM
Please remember that on default setting, bitcoin-qt pre-generate 100 addresses for you.

When you "generate" a new address, or make a payment and use a new change address, you program will take one address from the 100, and pre-generate a new one.
So, the 101th address (and all the addresses after that) you generated are NOT in your backups.
That's why, you need to make a new backups from time to time, or use the -keypool=<n> argument.
2554  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is 42 Coin tricking people out? Market cap is crashing! on: January 26, 2014, 09:05:19 AM
It isn't necessary. It's crap  Angry The coin makes no sense.
OK, I give it up with 42. It's not worth it.

so as 99% of the alt-coins.  Grin

Anyone know if QT Bitcoin Trader has any plans to add this feature?

No idea.
But, you could ask that in the Qt Bitcoin Trader thread.

2557  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HOWTO: create a 100% secure wallet on: January 26, 2014, 08:57:49 AM
Brainwallet is a nice feature to have and unless someone can find a way to crack into people's brains, then it should be secure.

Not secure at all if you use simple words like "baseball" or "password".
2558  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HOWTO: create a 100% secure wallet on: January 26, 2014, 08:54:16 AM
I'm going to set up a wallet on my raspberry pi. It's portable and it's running Linux, which I hear is safer. Anyone confirm that?

For the Linux part, definitely it is better than Windows Cheesy (most of the virus are targeting to Windows users).

I think we'll see 1500 by Summer.

Hopefully $1500 by March.  Some charts say we are undervalued right now and should even be around $2000 in March but we will see.

I do have faith in bitcoin, but I don't think the price will be doubled in just 2 months.
