Offering $250

I am sure it is worth more though....
2582  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins are not, in practice, fungible on: December 30, 2011, 07:29:53 PM

Because they shouldn't.  Mt. Gox is wrong.

There is no way to know the party in possession of the coins is the thief.

And further, trying to collect data based on where they came from is flawed too.  Let say a thief wants to cover his tracks...

They place an order with an online store like mine, and send the merchandise to someone they do not like (placing the order as that person)....  Now I try to sell them, and the exchange asks me for information on where the coins came from.  I would not tell them, but if they did get that info....  It could lead to the wrong person.
2583  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins are not, in practice, fungible on: December 30, 2011, 01:58:34 PM
Something interesting happened in #mtgox last night. A user got their account locked down and MagicalTux said that the reason for it was that the coins could be traced back to a theft a long time ago. He unlocked the account in question, but it means that the widely-held assumption that Bitcoins are fungible - that it doesn't matter which you get paid with - isn't true and hasn't been for some time. Some Bitcoins are tainted and will cause you problems when you try to exchange them while others aren't, and there's no easy way to tell which is which just by looking at them. (Wonder if there's a way to require payment with recently-mined bitcoins...)

I have no idea whether or how this will affect Bitcoin though.

Well if that were true (which I personally doubt)......

That would only mean that bitcoins are not fungible at mtgox and with any merchant or exchange that wanted that behavior.  Customers could choose if they wanted to deal with exchanges like that or not.

$2 of that was from me.  Smiley
2585  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin-accepting organizations' acceptance/usage of GoDaddy which supports SOPA on: December 29, 2011, 08:53:45 PM
So GoDaddy no longer supports SOPA, but Visa still officially supports it.  It's impossible to completely switch over to BTC at the moment though Sad

Godaddy has dropped being on the 'list' of SOPA supporters but still seems to support it:

http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/npair/godaddy_has_not_withdrawn_its_official/

I have completed the transfer of two of my domains away from Godaddy.

Have they shipped yet?

-EP
Actually no, and I'm kind of pissed. They probably wait for them to sell out completely before shipping. Also, they are shipping to me in 7 separate boxes (fail) instead of one big one. I do have tracking numbers, but UPS hasn't picked them up yet.

Yeah I bought 10 of them... 10 seperate UPS tracking numbers... labels created, but none have shipped.

Makes me a tad bit nervous as I haven't purchased from this store before... and its not exactly a small order.
Mine have also not shipped
2587  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: mtgox auto sell?? on: December 28, 2011, 10:06:27 PM
Place a sell order for the amount of coins you WILL have when the deposit is finished.  It will show only as the amount you have currently but when the BTC deposit clears, the whole order will show.  I did this last night and it worked.

2588  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1233 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); Pool back in action! on: December 28, 2011, 06:19:37 PM
And now it appears fixed! My confirmed has rose and a payment processed.   Thanks Slush!
2589  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1233 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); Pool back in action! on: December 28, 2011, 06:05:05 PM
Just noticed on the stats page that the last 3 blocks have been "Processing..." for quite a long time, is there some kind of issue, or should I just be more patient?

Also my confirmed balance stopped rising even though a few blocks have been confirmed.
2590  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin-accepting organizations' acceptance/usage of GoDaddy which supports SOPA on: December 28, 2011, 04:28:32 PM

2591  Economy / Marketplace / Re: WANTED - Bitcoin Sellers! Many Open Orders Needed to Be Filled on: December 27, 2011, 05:55:40 PM
I have signed up, but it still says $15 for USD accounts under your fees tab.  Is it $5 now for US bank accounts??
2592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you want in a new Bitcoin Exchange? on: December 25, 2011, 03:01:56 AM
Cheap withdraws.  Deposits can be more because there is more risk. Btc to $ to dwolla carries little risk for the exchange.  Both gox and tradehill do withdraws cheap and have higher volume because of it.

This sucks.  I have always been on the edge about godaddy.  They have provided me good support and service for YEARS but also have been on the wrong side of numerous issues.  With this one they are shooting themselves in the foot on so many levels.  Under the guise of protecting American business and jobs, SOPA will actually cause both to disappear when foreign customers of American businesses realize that they will now be under control of that law if they use the same companies.  Most probably my new domain host will NOT be based in America.

It will be starting the process of moving away from goaddy in the first week of the new year if they do not reverse their position on SOPA.  It will be a hard processes and while overall it will not cost money, it will cost money up front as most registrars require an extension with the move.

to Canada? Cheesy

I wish it was cheaper to ship a hard drive to Canada, but add 2 BTC.
2595  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: it's winter, so you know what that means... on: December 23, 2011, 04:54:42 AM
well the internet covers the whole world - it is both
maybe
"it's winter in the northern hemisphere, so you know what that means..."
would have been a better title

http://www.bom.gov.au/wa/forecasts/perth.shtml certainly says it is NOT winter...

Hmmm... migrating miners?  In the future they follow winter around the globe!
2596  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Sapphire HD5830 xtreme video cards on: December 23, 2011, 04:50:16 AM
Often sellers here want too much, but this is a fair price.  These end from $60 to $100 on eBay with most of them ending at around $80 with US shipping.  My advice, try to sell them here for as low as $70, if not put em on eBay, pay the 10% in fees but they will go out the door fast.
2597  Economy / Goods / [wts] Small 3.5" IDE hard drives for mining 4 BTC shipped USA on: December 23, 2011, 03:10:15 AM
20GB 4 BTC shipped USA
40GB or greater 5 BTC shipped USA

I have about 6 available, and they can be picked up in Maryland as well for 1 BTC less.
2598  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Canada, the ignored on: December 22, 2011, 05:14:33 PM
How about no shipping up charge to Canada until the 31'st?

So just pay the 99 cent shipping (in btc) on any product.

The first 5 orders only get this as it is possible for me to loose money on some items due to the higher shipping cost.

0. (optional) find unoccupied room, relocate mining rigs there

2. open window
3. instant 20°C drop
4. overclock to the max
5. Huh
6. profit!

1 Find frequently used room
2 place mining rig in unused corner
