261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mod Nvidia display drivers give faster Eth rate? on: October 26, 2017, 03:48:12 PM
setup an vm and try it.

report back Smiley

sadly those drivers are only available for sale i'm not risking my money to see if they work as advertised))

Yes, this scam has been around for awhile and there are some older threads on it. Basically, the video authors fake some numbers to get people to contact them where they offer to sell the mods for a fee. Usually the offer also has some key words designed to make you act such as: for today only, or limited time offer, we sold some at a higher price but will sell to you for a slightly lower one, etc.

My advice, keep your money and ignore such scams. If such fantastical hash rates were possible other people would be reporting them as well, or if indeed they were on to some miracle settings, they surely wouldn't be selling them to the general public for peanuts they would either keep it to themselves or sell to a large private miner instead.
262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Very odd networking issue. Rigs take down internet?? on: October 26, 2017, 03:29:14 PM
Once you go past a certain number of rigs it is time to leave the land of home gear and move up a notch. You can get used commercial gear pretty cheap off Ebay and other sites, such as this Cisco switch for $35  https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cisco-Catalyst-3560-PoE-48-Port-Switch-WS-C3560-48PS-S/372011999665?hash=item569da4a1b1:g:LuEAAOSwkLhZ6nVe

You can also pick up a gigabit capable switch for a little more (~$100), but for miners 100 mbps is plenty.

The main thing with smaller SOHO switches and routers is that even though they can handle the bandwidth, they often cannot handle a high packet rate. A packet needs to be processed regardless if it is a small packet (50 bytes) or a large packet (1500 bytes). Mining typically does not consume much bandwidth as the communication between your miner and the pool uses small packets most of the time, but depending on how many miners you have and the algorithm you are running, you can have lots of packets flowing across your network with very little bandwidth usage. This still can cause stress on home grade equipment as they design it around a typical home usage model.

Now granted this usually does not come into play until you are running a sizable number of miners, but still for the price you might as well invest in equipment that was designed for such usage.
263  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Restarting miner boost the speed on: October 26, 2017, 03:14:15 PM
As the others have said, it is likely the result of the miner or pool estimating your shares at first. Once it runs awhile there is enough data to provide a more accurate average hash rate, which is normally a bit lower than the peak reading you may see when you first fire up your mining program. On the pool side it usually averages your results over a longer period of time, but again the day to day variance can be enough to make it seem like sometimes you are hashing at a higher rate than other times. In the long run though, everything evens out.
264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX 1070 Ti is now pre-order on newegg.com on: October 26, 2017, 03:05:35 PM
wow they moved up the price of the 1080 in order to squeeze in the high price of the 1070 ti.  1080 armor was like $500 last week now it's $550.   OH well pre order one for fun.

I was going to say, it looked like the price was very close to the 1080 when I first looked at it so why would anyone buy the 1070TI. Then I also seen they jacked up the 1080 prices in the meantime. It does seem like there are some dirty tricks going on with pricing, not sure if it is Nvidia or the retailers causing it though.

I was going to order one to try it out, but now I think I will hold off until some mining results start coming in.
265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX 1070 with PCIE riser and Server PSU on: October 26, 2017, 01:12:54 AM
Hi, I am new to mining and building my very first rig with GTX-1070 from EVGA.

It has a 8 pin PCIE power connector. On exploring different options, I found using a server PSU is cost efficient and is better for performance.

I am looking server PSU offered by Parallel Miner.http://www.parallelminer.com/product/platinum-1200-watt-200-240v-power-supply-kit-for-gpu-mining-zec-dash-eth/?attribute_62-pin-pcie-cables=%2B16+6%2B2+pin+PCIE+Cables

Which has 6 pin output. Can I connect the one of the 6 pin PCIE power output to this 6 pin riser https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MR22J4G/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A307H6K6FDLSNJ&psc=1 and have the PCIE riser power the GTX 1070 running at 150 watts ?

If not what is the optimal and simpler configuration to have the server PSU work with 6 GTX 1070 which have 8 pins each?

Thanks.

Yes, connect one of the 6+2 cables to your 1070's 8-pin connector and you can connect another 6 pin cable directly to the riser board, which is actually the recommended method. Throw those SATA power adapters in the trash as it will save you a lot of headaches down the road.

As far as using the Pico adapter, if you convert a 8-pin PCIe cable to power the EPS connector separately you can get by with the lower rated Pico adapter since you will be splitting the power draw across two paths. You can't use a PCIe power cord directly to feed the EPS connector, as the pins are reversed on the end that connects to the motherboard, meaning the 12V and ground wires are switched around.
266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Start button/taskbar stops working and slow pc after AMD driver installation. on: October 26, 2017, 12:55:43 AM
Well, if they are all listed in Device Manager without any ? or ! mark errors  they should be ready to go. But while you got it open also check DM for any other drivers that need to be installed. Usually HDMI sound (part of the GPU) also needs to install, and possibly some PCI related components if you are using risers. I usually just let it do its thing and come back to it after some amount of time. However, even if you do reboot too fast, Windows is pretty good about picking up where it left off.

Best you can do is try to give it more time after installing the drivers and report back. Another thing you can try is under System->Advanced System Settings->Advanced Tab->Performance->Settings is to check the radio button for Adjust for Best Performance. This cuts down on a lot of the visual fluff which you don't need to mine with and may be contributing to your problem.
267  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Start button/taskbar stops working and slow pc after AMD driver installation. on: October 25, 2017, 10:24:34 PM
How long are you waiting after the install? I ask because I know sometimes after installing a fresh copy of Windows and/or even Drivers, the system still is updating things in the background that can cause symptoms like these. If you have 6 GPUs, the driver needs to install for each one, usually you will notice this by the periodic screen flashing. Again, this process can take awhile making your system appear to not be working when indeed it is still installing drivers. Depending on the speed of your computer, hard drive, and Internet connection, it can take upwards of 20-30 minutes for all these background tasks to complete.
268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Lifespan of a GPU in mining on: October 24, 2017, 02:56:23 PM

I am trying calculate how much roughly would one need capital in order to gain living out of mining. In case you would have to estimate, what is the life span of GPU, when used in mining? A GPU would be replaced because it's broken, sold or just replaced with more efficient one.

Tigel

If you run a GPU until it dies you can get 3-5 years out of it easily with proper care; keeping it cool (<70C), keeping it dry (not in a humid environment), keeping it relatively clean(dust and dirt free), and obviously free of any physical damage.

The second part of your question is a bit harder to answer and depends on which point of a cards life cycle you purchase it at. If you buy new cards at the beginning of their life cycle you can expect to get 2 years out of them before newer cards will outperform them in terms of mining efficiency. If you buy them towards the end of their cycle or once a newer card has been release, you might only get a year of efficient operation out of them. Of course that also depends on the mining environment at the time you choose to replace them, as right now mining is still fairly profitable so running older cards is still profitable. But you can also get good resale because of this fact too, so it might still be a good idea to sell off your old cards and purchase newer more efficient ones to keep your mining as energy efficent as possible.
269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: auroramine.com DOWN! on: October 24, 2017, 06:13:28 AM
They closed up shop and took your money with them just as had been predicted by many. It was basically a Ponzi scheme. There are already a couple of other threads about it, here is one of them: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2307217.0
270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How many mh/s do you have? on: October 23, 2017, 09:07:44 PM
Guys who mines. How many mh / s do you have and on what equipment do you use? Smiley

Strange question. No words about algo, GPU or ASIC. Why this thread?

It probably has more to do with trying to phish for some information on big miners. Just like it is not a good idea to post how much is in your cryptowallet(s), it is probably not a good idea to post how much hash-rate you are sporting. While you may feel the urge to brag, in this space every post you make can paint a target on your back for scammers to try and find a way to take advantage of you.
271  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Ethereum Mining NoDevFee v8.0 🔥 on: October 23, 2017, 05:20:32 PM
Claymore's and so gets a huge fee, it's time for him to reduce his appetite

I agree with that. Or we need some other good miners.

This is the real problem. I seen on another thread where Claymore's wallet balance was over $1 Million in ETH from just one of his Dev fee addresses. I am not saying he does or does not deserve this, as I do feel he deserves compensation, the question is how much.

I am sure there are a lot of very talented developers out there who could make a comparable program, if not better, and claim a piece of that seemingly very lucrative market. Even a 0.5% mining fee would yield more income in a year than many top developer salaries in the corporate world, so it really surprises me that there is not more competition in this regard.

I am sure there are some large private mining farms who hire developers to custom make their own proprietary mining software, but with such large amounts of income available from a public fee-based miner, there sure are not a lot of choices.

So until there are more competitive choices which feature more reasonable fees, I guess Claymore has free reign to charge what he wishes.
272  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Auroramine Website Has Shut Down! on: October 23, 2017, 04:59:25 PM
Lol, it is hard to feel sorry for any of you who lost money on this, I even replied in one of the announcement threads that it was a scam from day 1 as did many others. If you "invested" thinking 10% DAILY return was legit, then let this be a good lesson.

Don't expect that they will be online again, they ran and will never comeback. Your coins and funds there are completely lost.
So if I were you forget those money of yours, if there someone whos to blame then its you. Cloud minings are fake and made to scam people.

I am sure they will be back, just not as Auroramine. You are correct in that the money is gone, but with such a lucrative payoff I am sure they will try it again under another guise. Just everyone be aware of any such type of scams in the future. Like your mother used to tell you, "If it sounds too good to be true its because it is."
273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why Poloniex never aswer to open ticket ? ....like Mt. Gox ? on: October 23, 2017, 12:51:27 AM
Poloniex has been citing "growth outgrowing their support staff" as an excuse for pathetically horrible support response time for most of the past YEAR now.

This is ONE of the reasons I stopped using them.

They also dropped their "chat box" which seemed like the only way to ever get a support ticket paid attention to....

Once they dropped their chat box I moved most of my funds off of their exchange as well. While it was annoying at times, I figured the troll box would provide the first clues of any big issues in case I needed to act quickly. Now with no immediate feedback mechanism to warn of impending danger, it could very well turn into a Cryptsy type situation.

I know I should move all my coins off, but they do have a couple of unique markets I still like to trade in. It is a very small amount so if they do go under, while it may piss me off, it won't really be a significant loss.
274  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Does ms (milliseconds) Matter? on: October 23, 2017, 12:42:33 AM
The lower the network latency (measured in ms) the better, it means you are closer to the pool and are less likely to have packet drops or stale shares due to excessive latency. The 50-60 ms on your first pool is a pretty good value, but once you start getting over 100 ms you may start having problems, and I would avoid anything much over 150 ms if possible.
275  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Friend gives wallet seed to stranger and bitcoins disappear from his wallet on: October 22, 2017, 11:42:25 PM
How did that person get in touch with your chap? a person who has 2.6 BTC in his wallet should have been more careful the stranger probably ran away with the BTC by now the chances of getting his Bitcoin is close to zero.

My friend apparently got in touch with the stranger at a bar that is known to have a lot of bitcoiners around.

Yes, get in touch with the Police right away, the sooner the better. If he actually met the person in a bar, there very well might be surveillance video of the person in question, or at least of him walking in/out of the place that your friend can review with the police and help identify him. But, some establishments overwrite their tapes or hard drives as they fill up, so the sooner you act the better the chance that this type of evidence will still exist. Also, there may be other people who frequent the bar, or one of the bartenders or waitresses that might know who this stranger is, but again this would be more of a job for the Police. The amount involved makes it a significant enough crime you may actually get someone out there to investigate the place and snoop around, as if he ripped you off he very well may have ripped others off as well.
276  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: would an investment of 40 Million $ change the current bitcoin price? on: October 22, 2017, 10:57:29 PM
No, the btc market is currently worth more than $ 50 billion, so $ 40 million will change absolutely nothing in the balance and prices will not budge. If you are looking to spend this amount, invest in a altcoins and above all, do not forget to warn me a few days before investing it, while I fill up ahah! I suggest you a currency whose maket cap is <$ 1 million, history that there is a little sport ahah

Well using the BTC marketcap is a bit misleading as the majority of those coins do not move and are not traded. You can be sure if any significant portion of all the Bitcoins in existence were to be dumped on the market the price would collapse like nothing you have seen before. But even with this said, $40 million in BTC now represent only around 6,600 BTC. So it might move the price a few tens of dollars but not enough to make a real big impact, such as pushing it to $7,000.
277  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone else takes screenshots of Coinmarketcap every now and then? on: October 22, 2017, 10:51:17 PM
Maybe not Coinmarketcap, but I did take some screenshots of my Ethermine payout page a few times over the course of the summer. Doubtful mining profitability on any coin will reach those levels again, but you never know, after all this is crypto.
278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8 card limit on Windows is Removed! on: October 22, 2017, 10:26:04 PM
So, I read through the thread but still can't seem to say I found anyone actually confirming this is the case yet. Even if it only supports Nvidia cards atm, I would be interested in someone who has actually ran more than 10 cards successfully on the new version of Windows chime in.
279  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shall I buy BTC now to get the free BTG? on: October 21, 2017, 05:05:26 PM
I would wait for a dip before buying in. Consider the price of Bitcoin rose from around $3500 a month ago to around $6100 now. That $2,600 rise isn't all because of the fork and BTG, a lot of it is pure speculation and manipulation. For BTG to be the reason behind it means people believe BTG is going to be worth close to $2600 each, or the difference in price that Bitcoin rose since the BTG talk began. Well if you believe that I have a bridge to sell you.

Anyway, the price is sure to come down again at some point as nothing rises straight up. If the money is burning a hole in your pocket to invest, I would suggest buying in in 25% increments, meaning buy $500 of BTC now, wait a week until after the fork to see how things play out, then invest another $500, wait another week or two invest $500 and so on. This way you spread the risk out that due to the run-up in price, or the fork, or both, you can get in at a good price.
280  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Temperature error? EThereum miner GTX1070 on: October 21, 2017, 03:03:17 PM
Why do we use connectors at all? Why not solder the wires together and skip a connector?

I have actually done this quite a few times, especially for any risers I would need to otherwise power via Molex cables. I use the butt splice connectors that have solder already in them and are also prewrapped in heat-shrink tubing. A quick crimp and pass over with the heat gun and they are ready to go. You still need to adhere to the no more than two risers per run though, as usually the wires and PSU end connectors are still going to be limited in their current carrying capacity.
