That is why it would be better to do your research than surf the web with anyone's opinion due to it could cause you unwise decision-making by FOMO.

I think the reason is the money itself, we know that this world runs on money, so if you lack it financially you will probably suffer a lot. People don't value their life or the others cause they are still there, they know that you won't be leaving this world any time soon so they are being careless. Well, we know that gambling is for everyone, it just depends on how responsible you are when you are gambling. From your case OP, you have mentioned that both parties are gambling and also they have a child, from the fact that you have a child and both of you are risking your money, just imagine what would happen in case of emergency, how can you provide all the needs of your child.
