if i had just held everything.. but meh. if no one had actually used btc it would be a failed experiment by now. and i didnt replace my early btc because it was all just majik internetz moneyz anyway..

Yes. There's no point in trying to think how things would have been if you did a single thing differently (ie hodling more or buying more) as if that wouldn't have influenced your own behaviour or even the whole echosystem. Maybe Bitcoin would have failed, or maybe you would have lost it some time later, or maybe....

Same as there is no point for laszlo thinking he shouldn't have bought the pizzas because: I am sure he had plenty of additional BTC, what did he do with them? Why didn't he mine or buy more after the trade? The price didn't suddently skyrocket right after the purchase.

Let the past be past. Think of the future... it's bright.

Yep, earlier in 2010-2013 period it probably was like being a super early VC round or angel investing.
2014-15 was more like a follow up VC round.
Now were are, hopefully, at btc IPO where public en large will start participating.
Re pizzas-great idea first time around, but later on the light bulb should have shined on (not sure if it ever did for that particular historical figure).
It did for Trace Mayer & other OGs, no doubt.

actually for us sorta early hobbyist miners btc were continually trickling in, so we replaced some as we went anyway.

i dont recall the price point (EDIT: more the ROI point, not btc price point) where i actually considered btc as possibly a real investment as opposed to pure experiment, but once it hit that i started to pay more attention. early on though the chance of it all crashing down to zero was much higher than today, so i didnt bother replacing any aside from my mining them. but now? nope, while it still may fail in some way hodl or use and replace is the name of the game until set goals are achieved. even then i will always try to have a reserve to call on.

eh well fuck I bought like 7 of those 333 megahash miners at 1 btc a pop.

heh yup, got one of those too. the block erupter. dont remember what i paid though.

... he sourced and shipped me a number of euro spec thermostats ... I think it was 6 BTC for the parts.
Like my TREZOR, which I bought for 0.13 BTC...
Lol. Mine was 1BTC
just over 4 btc for my trezor here. preordered jan 2016 got it in apr 2016

My ledger was around 0.1-0.2 BTC.... but... right after I received it and played with it I saw the light and the future of crypto for the masses and felt confident enough to buy some more (full) bitcoins over the next few months. I couldn't be more grateful to that enlightening purchase even if it had costed me much more. It basically triggered me to buy more BTC.

For my Trezor, some time later, I just additionally bought the same amount of BTC that it was costing me.

had to edit my post. ~4 btc was my 1st tx to my trezor.  it was actually ~0.27 btc.

i dont think i repurchased the btc i spent on it. no regrets though. the security of that trezor has allowed me very good nights of sleep knowing my corn is safe. between trezor and paper wallets for long term storage... happiness

... he sourced and shipped me a number of euro spec thermostats ... I think it was 6 BTC for the parts.

Those have got to be the most expensive thermostats you've ever bought...

Like my TREZOR, which I bought for 0.13 BTC...

Lesson learned: spend fiat first, and BTC only when you absolutely have to.

Lol. Mine was 1BTC

EDITED POST: 0.27 btc for mine. ordered in jan 2016 according to my core wallet.

original post had the btc amount that was my 1st tx to my trezor

I have problems keeping up with all these forks. I put my BTC on a paper wallet back in 2014. What forks do I get now for that? BCash, BGold. Do I also get BTC SV? Since I still have no BCash because I did not move my BTC since 2014.

First make sure that you transfer/sweep ALL of btc to a new wallet first.
Even experienced people sometimes forget about change, make a small tx, then proceed to lose the rest of it.
https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com/wallet-tutorial-add-withdraw-funds/

cant stress this enough, as i almost screwed up with a paper wallet before i understood that some clients handle it ok (sends the change back to the original addy), some dont (change can become part of the miner fees for that block). luckily the client i used sent the change back to the original addy. but i sure was sweating until i saw the change back at the original addy.

so for paper wallets, just sweep all the entire balance of a paper wallet to the new addy. take no chances. even if the client handles the change ok you still have published the pubic key for that addy which reduces security and privacy.

Only time I’ve ever used real guns was in Vegas. I fired rounds from a Glock, a couple of automatics & a massive sniper rifle (I’m from the UK, I don’t know my guns).

I really enjoyed it tbh. If I was a US citizen I’d definitely carry & join a shooting range or something.

I think it empowers you, firing a gun.

when armed, dont think like that. think like you are unarmed and have a big blinking light over your head.

if anything you need to think more DEFENSIVELY.

never NEVER go further into a situation just because youre armed. you need to be further away from that situation, not closer to it. unless thats your job of course, or perhaps extraordinary circumstances to defend someone else.

LFC, not saying you would do that, just commenting in general because some people do think that way.

Today 26th of may, damn only 1 month and 5 days to go....

I haven't got the slightest idea of where it will end this Quarter...

Excited!

as long as it can hang in the 8k or above ill be happy.

but man were we really that pessimistic only a couple months ago? like 90% of us were calling below 8k.

Natural gas to be replaced with heatpump too.

If a full Powerwall doesn't get you through the night you need to seriously look at your "base load".
[...]

At night I have:
12W 12V outdoor LED lighting (9 x 1.2W running from a single high-efficiency adapter) [edit: corrected]
4W internet modem/wifi (with all status lights disabled)
18W freezer, 75W with about 25% cycle time.
10W fridge, 65W with about 15% cycle time.
8W standby central heater (I turn this off in the summer unless I need warm tap water)
5W phone charger (10W for half a night)
Total: 57W night-time usage.
a single 13.5 kWh Powerwall would last a me a 236 hour night.

nice setup.

my geothermal (ground based) heatpump/DHW system (3.5 ton) in winter is about ~3000 watts flat out (stage 2) during the night if the temps get near/below 0 F.

in the summer with it in AC mode (with desuperheater for DHW assist) only calling for stage 1 (~2000 watts) it will cycle slow enough even with 90s F at night for a powerwall to maybe last the night.. havent run the numbers but i do want a power wall with a sun tracking system.

so being 100% off grid at night will be hard for me.

EDIT geo system set to hold house 71 F day/night/summer/winter

imho 95% of very early buyers of btc donīt own a large btc stash anymore.

-lost/destroyed hardware
-lost private keys
-spent for pizza or other stuff
-got hacked
-some bad trades
-going full retard as "daytrader"
-sold because it finally went over $10
-lost btc on mtgox and other exchanges
-bought shitcoins
-fell for scams
-invested in butterfly labs or other vaporware
-believed the bcash lies
-believed in the ETH flippening
-etc, etc

you are still early. mass adoption not here yet. if you manage to hodl a few whole btc you are going to be allright.rich.

man i can checkoff 8 items on that list.

sadface

but i still have some corn left.

happyface

so, overall:

Tone Vays and Roger Ver section of Malta Blockchain Summit 2019 - Live Stream

They get into a pissing match about transaction fees. Roger says that you have to spend $3 for a BTC transaction fee, which makes it impractical for sending $5 worth of BTC... Vays says he hasn't paid more than a dollar for a fee in the last 9 months. He ends up sending Roger $5 of BTC with a 1 cent fee. Roger says if it confirms in the next 24 hours he'll donate $10,000 to Vays' charity of choice. It confirms in 10 hours.

Wonder if Roger held up his promise...

tldr: tx was added manually by slush and bet was end of day local time not 24 hours. if i got it right.

((they)) may not be able to trace some transactions and link them to people now, but i am certain they will be able to do so to a large extent in the future. they will be able to go back as far as they want as its all public anyway. and i would rather not have the IRS, or whoever, make my life miserable down the road.

Yep, tax office depending on jurisdiction has like 10 to 20 years time to jail you for dodging taxes.

Via chain analysis and kyc on exchanges .gov will know what you do, hard to escape this.

yup thats the way i figure it. sure be a drag to be lounging in my mega yacht 10 years from now and suddenly have 3 letter agencies crawling over your life, all because you tried to avoid paying a few thousand in taxes.
2615  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 22, 2019, 05:40:20 PM
thats why i never bothered with mixers [...]
Tax in Netherlands is just 1.2% per year of the Jan 1st "value", nothing on actual gains. Never used a mixer but I assume they charge more than 1.2%. Looks like they spend a year collecting information about really dumb people.

in the USA we pay capitol gains on the difference in price when bought vs when sold. so i actually like having a very simple straight forward way to match my coins for tax purposes. there are a few different ways to do it, last in 1st out; 1st in 1st out etc. it can make a big difference in what you pay.
2616  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 22, 2019, 05:13:19 PM

Holy shieeet

You are not anonymous bruh!

Wearing my hat back.

thats why i never bothered with mixers or even trying to hide my purchases made with btc at newegg or for PMs and reported those purchases on my taxes as they were taxable events. and i dont worry about KYC at the two exchanges i use as fiat on/off ramps. btc is not anonymous and i never treated it as such.

Learn to ignore.

ive used my ignore button more in the last few weeks than the entire previous 8 years ive been here.

Fine. It's just you can do it quietly, without drawing additional attention to the person.

point taken, merit sent.

will go back and edit post.

~snip~

Call me an age scientist pessimist.

This debate is philosophical and for some peeps, just waste of time or pure bullshit "read very young and very old " I comes in midway and I want 30 more years of healthy life if I make it on this mark, then I can push 20 more years easily if life doesn't come in a way.

key is "take care of your body when you are young" IMHO.

while thats true, we (my buds and i) were indestructible when we where young. and we proved that, to a point. we just collected a fairly amazing collection of scars, broken bones, and burnt out brain cells.

i mean thats the point of being young. test the bodies limits. worst that can happen is you die in a spectacular way, worthy of stories told down the ages.

even if the we knew all those "hold muh beer" moments of youth would knock years off of our lives (and we more or less did), we still would of done them if we had the chance to do it again. it was a blast.

sitting around the nursing home in a diaper and sucking your gums while a nurse wipes the drool off your face doesnt really appeal to me. and medical advances wont be anywhere near the point that regeneration of your body and brain are feasible, not for a long time yet. as thats the only way to really extend quality life.
