i just sent Chlotide from 98 to 100 so i think that hits full member, if im reading the table right.

Looks to me like the $1,000/btc and below price levels need more testing. I'm just telling ya'll the truth. I could see maybe bitcoin long term stable in the $200-$500 range after a lot of faffing about.

you said sub 10k, not sub 1k

so youre admitting you could be off THAT much

much wrong, very useless. begone foul creature
1703  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 05, 2020, 06:00:41 PM
just adding to 600watt here. as long as you can afford to lose it youre fine. that should be a given.

i started mining at $10. it went to $35. yes! then.. down to $2 for a loooong time. a ~95% drop. but.  look where we are today.

tl;dr: hodl

i had read about bitcoin when price was about $10 and right away decided to buy some. but I couldn't find a way to get some btc other than wiring money to the MtGox bank account in Tokyo. price rose every day and the money wouldn't arrive. and price kept on rising, doubling, tripling, etc.. on and on. the fuckin day the fuckin money was finally on my account ready to f i n a l l y buy, price was at.... you guessed it: $35

I finally bought and it felt great. when I checked my account a few hours later that same day, price had crashed. and it kept on crashing next day. and the day after....  man, that was shocking and I had no news. there was no media infrastructure, and main stream media didn't cover it and unfortunately I hadn't found this forum yet. no info, price kept crashing. then MtGox got hacked, I couldn't get to my account anymore. decided to throw everything away and forget about it. I was so ashamed I had sunken my money into this Japanese scam. price went down to $2.
I had bought right the top of bitcoins first insane bull run. I could have bought 17x more bitcoin if I had bought on the day it was on $2 instead of the day I had chosen to buy. one could say that I had royally fucked this one up and I really think I did. but whining about a buying price of $35 is kinda weird.

cheers to you sharing that moment. you were already mining and I was a textbook noob. cheers to all 2011ers.

i had to lol at the bolded part. yup, i felt the same at the time as i watched it drop from $35 to $2, thought i had wasted money on buying a couple 5830s at like $150 apiece purely for mining because 5830s werent even that great compared to the 6870 i had for actual gaming. what a waste!! stuck with these useless cards!! but i kept mining.. and yeah.. here we are.

i still have a couple of those early mining cards. the 6870 especially deserves to be gold plated and mounted in a display case as it could crank the corn out.. that was the 1st card i bought for mining and had the intention of also having a good gaming card no matter where bitcoin wound up. fond memories.

1704  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 05, 2020, 01:33:45 PM
I bought bitcoin with the amount of $150 with the market price of the coin 11.3k market price and I'm trying to take investment because there is a chance that the price goes up into 15k.

Right now I'm seeing the price drops over 10k and continuously going down and this is not a good shot for me right now. The only choice is holding and wait again for another pump.

Just want to share my cruel mistake lol.

the first bitcoin I bought went down 90% in value.  I was thinking it was a very ver very bad mistake back then. it took the price 2 years to climb back. you will have to wait maybe 2 weeks or - if things go a bit mad - 2 months.

you are doing good, buying at local tops is no cruel mistake in bitcoin. even on a multiyear blow-off top it is no mistake.

just adding to 600watt here. as long as you can afford to lose it youre fine. that should be a given.

I will confirm it for a merit. You can buy multiple confirmations.

I have merited the post.
Swaystar, look away, will you?
[/size]

Please confirm asap, so i can finally set my massive $10k buy orders to Proudhonk's $3k range  Grin

yeah i did too as, coming from vroom, it made me laugh. if it annoyed sway, bonus points
1706  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 05, 2020, 12:17:26 AM
Whenever I refer to a random poster on this forum I use the the pronoun "they" rather than he or she.
(And yes "they" is grammatically correct for referring to the singular, or so I've heard.)
And not because of all this politically correct gender pronoun nonsense, but simply because  I dont automatically assume
the gender as being a "he" (albeit on this forum, that's usually the case).
I only mention this because in all this swaystar hullabaloo, (apparently triggered by a post of mine)
I was actually suspecting this sway character could be a she. (or not)

back in the day, as in way back in the day, when i learned english (in two different english speaking countries) i thought i learned that when a singular person of unknown sex was referred to "he" could refer to either sex.

however *main memory checksum error* so..
1707  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 04, 2020, 08:49:47 PM
we will climb back to $11k soonish. and then it is decision time. we will either go through this barrier and all is good or we will get rejected. if we get rejected we will see 9k and in worst case 8k, but that is the very bearish case. I want to accumulate more, that is why I am even considering those scenarios..

Worst case $8k? Have you even confirmed your math and science facts? We will be hitting $3k again for certain. Everyone's confirmed it.

Confirmed.

wait

can i confirm it too? dont want to be left out. i think.

well maybe i should just say "i can neither confirm nor deny"  yeah thats it. im in both clubs now Grin

Historians will one day spend years digging through this thread to understand the evolution of bitcoin in the minds of early bitcoin HODLers.

Hi there, future historians!

a gift for future historians (and bob)

1709  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 04, 2020, 12:10:08 AM
It already dipped below $10k (I spotted $9,987.86 about 30 minutes ago... lasting for at least 3 minutes).   Shocked

You already had your chance.  Wink

In other words: been there, done that.  Tongue

crap, just missed triggering a buy i had at 9920 then. catch it later maybe
1710  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 04, 2020, 12:03:01 AM
Bitcoin is dying. The last death throes are taking a minute, but in the grand scheme of things, this'll look as silly as the tulip bubble. We will never see another ATH in bitcoin world. Ever.

cool

time to grab more then, thanks for the heads up
1711  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Interviews] with Bitcointalk members - Timelord2067 on: September 03, 2020, 12:19:46 PM
Why?

bitcoin is pseudo anonymous. the forum should be based on the same principle. imo of course.
1712  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: same private key? on: September 03, 2020, 11:17:39 AM
privatekey works like a username where there is very little chance of the same username on a website unless there is a bug

no, it doesnt

a forum or website checks a new username against its database to see if its used. if it is, you are promoted to choose a different one. a private key is just a random number. what generates that private key (a program, dice, cards, coin flips, radioactive decay, whatever) doesnt check to see if its used. its just astronomically high that you generate a private key thats "used" already.
1713  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Interviews] with Bitcointalk members - Timelord2067 on: September 03, 2020, 10:55:58 AM
The top 1,000 users on BPIP.org 's Most Recognised (myself included at rank 38) should be the first to be vetted by a third party KYC verifying company.
Why? I don't know any other internet forum that requires KYC. I would even argue I'm not even "YC", and there's no no way in hell I'll ever go through KYC on any forum. I'm pretty sure at least 90% of the users would disappear, and the remaining few might pay some poor guy to do it on their behalf.

im with LoyceV.. kyc HERE on a BITCOIN forum? like, what?

not only would i leave and not post, i wouldnt even READ it at that point.

sorry for off topic, might be an interesting new thread. i likely wont participate though.
1714  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 02, 2020, 09:31:29 PM
Most altcoins dipped significantly harder than bitcoin today.

EDIT:
turns out roughly in +1% market dominance.

I don't even see BSv in top 10 on CMC someone should check on the jbreher

hes probably busy counting his gainz

All these 9 threads started with me and 1 gpu.

I think my peak amount was 42 1080tis

yeah ive read em all (wait maybe i missed the 1st couple.. gotta find em now). some cool setups in your garage and den, not to mention the farms. buy new toys, play gently with them, sell some of them while the price is still near list. nice business strategy.. win/win

didnt you have you have a special edition titan? like star wars edition or something in a display case?

EDIT 1st thread

Yeah i think I purchased enough cards for now.

32 on line 5 coming by thursday. brings me to 37 cards. about 1.3 gh of hash.

I think my partner has 2x 1080ti to add so close to  39 cards and 1.4gh.

i feel like such a piker lol. putting a couple 1080tis and a 1070ti back in my onda rig for eth. its currently got a couple fpgas that do 45 mhs each so maybe a bit over 200 mhs.

at least the cooler weather is here. that thing is in my basement.
1718  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: September 01, 2020, 10:45:33 AM
would explain why they transport the rigs back to Southern Mongolia after the rainy season in Sichuan.

shipping hash around the globe.. are those shipping containers fitted out for miners still a thing (saw some but havent paid attention of late)? or do they shlep thousands of individual miners around and disconnect/reconnect each one? just curious although i suppose manpower is cheap and if its only done a couple times a year..

most mining facilities ive seen (admittedly not many) are in buildings specifically built or retrofitted for mining. but if they are cheap enough to leave empty part of the year i suppose it doesnt matter.
1719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: SQRL Hosted FK3 - mwdataco scam or legit... on: August 31, 2020, 08:37:00 PM
1.3.1 didnt really do much but throw axi timeouts and my fdti (or whatever its called) drivers and fk eeproms were updated. 1.5 runs on one of them (i have two and set the .bat accordingly), still tossing the occasional axi timeout. win10 1709. pool shows hash and im just gonna let it sit and autotune and see how it goes.

unsure why one is ok and the other isnt but at least a working public eth bitstream is finally here. ill remove and install the drivers and such again later to try to kick the other to life. btw the leds on the fks dont match so somethings up for sure. gotta find out what all the leds indicate.

@jqprez, thanks for posting, i had basically given up on eth for my fks and hadnt been on discord for ages.

edit whoops its technically off topic as mine are self hosted, sorry Babaiaga
1720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: SQRL Hosted FK3 - mwdataco scam or legit... on: August 31, 2020, 01:09:39 PM
Good news! We are finally mining eth at 50-60 mhs! now they start talking my language!

more info please. been a long time since ive paid attention to sqrl, be nice to finally see eth on their hardware.
Info after the test period. 7-10 days i think.

found it (i think)

https://download.squirrelsresearch.com/sqrl_eth_release_v1.3.1_public.zip

edit: *nix and windows versions too.. will try later today. gonna be weird seeing my fks being actually useful after a year or whatever it was since i bought them.
