i just found out Dish network (satellite tv for those who dont recognize the name) takes bitcoin as payment lol. old news i guess but i just noticed yesterday while in my account. probably through a 3rd party, not directly.. i didnt bother to check that far.

maybe depends on where that hash that disappears from. what if its from mostly one or two of the top pools. if one of the remaining pools suddenly has over 51% of that remaining hashpower there could be some fear of that pool taking advantage of it for nefarious purposes. that type of drama did happen years back and although it was settled pretty fast (the pool that had near/over 51% prevented new miners from joining iirc) if it happens again maybe the price would be affected.

i dont really keep track of the btc pool hash distribution as i just mine shitcoins on auto exchange pools for btc. someone here will likely have some insight on that (philip maybe?).

re: ignore list

a while back (years) when sig spamming got real bad someone (several people i think) published lists of everyone who was in a sig campaign in a format you could copy/paste into your ignore list. the lists were hundred of names long and i imported several, to the point where the forum gave me errors when importing.

as time went on i unignored some as their posts were usually useful (found when others quoted them for instance). but my list still has hundreds of names, many of whom probably are long gone from the forum. but my ignore list is stupid long to scroll through still. baddecker and ibian are about the only ones worth mentioning here.

oh and the various bsv trolls. jbreher gets a pass though.

yeah never forget where you came from, you could find yourself right back to where you started. in my case being poor back in the day. paycheck to paycheck? that was paradise, i usually was out of money a day or two after payday.. dark times and mainly my fault.

being poor gives a pretty good perspective on finally having enough money to not worry too much about your next meal (or your next lambo perhaps).

mental health is a tough thing to self judge, after all how do you judge the state of your brain when your brain only can see whats interpreted and filtered (or even altered in many cases) through itself. if you cant trust your own brain.. well i cant see that being much fun at all.

true enough. there is the drama and small talk but thats part of the WO "charm" for want of a better term.. other, less polite terms apply of course but i wont repeat them here.. and yes, you do need to read through a lot of fluff but its worth it imo.

no, even after more or less understanding the white paper and sound money i still sold most as it was (and still is) an experiment. although now its pretty well established. but back then, at anytime it could of gone to zero (and still could tbh). so i sold many at local highs over the years ($100, $350 etc). gave me some good upgrades to my lifestyle.

but when the 2017 bull run happened while i sold too, now i keep as much of a reserve as possible. i never expected that kind of rise. once it happened.. well now its a different story.

so, maybe 80-90% of my mined coins are gone. keep in mind though the whole reason i got into it was to make some profit from my hobby and participate in the Grand Experiment and that was the deal i made with my wife (and myself).. to actually USE bitcoin as at that time the use case was very up in the air. if no one spent early btc, it could of failed.

so, no real regrets. i feel that helped make bitcoin what it is today (in my extremely small way).

good idea, white noise. but i would burn it to cd and play that or buy one of those mechanical white noise generators. i just dont trust cell phones even in airplane mode (possibly compromised phone). after all it could record and then send the recording when back online.

i have tinnitus so am very familiar with white noise, i bring white noise devices when im on vacation and such.

i have an Onda D8P (i assume you mean onda not oanda but perhaps im mistaken.) its an 8 full size slot board with 2.5 spacing between slots so 2 slot gpus still have breathing room.  its run flawlessly for years and has had fpgas as well as gpus in it. that model has a socket for the cpu (i threw a pentium g4400 in) and one sodimm slot as well as a msata ssd socket so is very self contained and neat as far as wires etc.

dunno if you can get them now. but it was a game changer from my riser rigs. what a pain riser rigs were when changing things around, cleaning gpus etc. riserless boards for the win.

RE: cracking a 256 bit key

obviously much simpler to just spy on the person creating the key/seeds.

think of how many microphones and cameras there are in the various devices in your house. then windows that someone can see into (drones have fantastic cameras btw).

so. room with all windows shades drawn (better: a closet with no windows/connection to exterior walls). all laptops/cellphones/webcams/smart speakers/smart TVs/voice remotes etc off and batteries/ethernet cables/power cords removed, all wifi disconnected at the sources (you might be amazed how many devices have wifi that you may not know about).. thats ALL of them in the house, not just the room youre in. use casino dice to generate the seed words. all in a sealed room. then a strong passphrase. burn all your work after verifying it all works.

engrave it on your favorite fire/waterproof medium. include some (or all) non magnet mediums for any metal detectors that may be employed to find stuff like that. or sprinkle hundreds of nuts and bolts in walls and around your property as as diversions/time wasters. etc.

now none of that involves cracking that 256 bit key but this is just stuff ive thought of when generating seeds. im sure there are many better ways.

so a bit off the topic but hey just tossing ideas out.

and yes paranoia is my middle name.. at least when it comes to keys/seeds.

i had been listing my crypto buys/sells/mining/merchant payouts years before that question popped up, and im very glad i did. after all, gains are gains, and are taxable - whether you bought and sold crypto or buckets of shit. its all taxable if you made profit. those who tried to hide it may be in for a big surprise.

pseudo anonymity is just that, pseudo. and as blockchain analysis gets better, all those transactions, on a very public blockchain, will come back to haunt many.

i always assumed they would be able to track transactions from the beginning and acted accordingly. computing power will always grow (obviously) and even stuff like monero will likely get tracked at some point. they can go back as far as they want with sufficient computing power. and they will have that computing power. maybe not now but certainly in the future and they will use it.

believe me i hate taxes as much as the next guy, but theres no way around it in the land of the *cough* free. hide it and be prepared to pay the price.
