2641  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Account safety on: November 16, 2021, 08:00:50 PM
This seems pretty doable, but I doubt any user has done this, probably due to lack of utility. You can drop a message on TryNinha's thread or the one created by LoyceV if they can be of help.

However, hackers who get into your account without you knowing would likely not post publicly if they plan to stay covert, they'll likely use private messages and third party bots cannot access your private messages.

For extra security;
• Set up 2fa for your email,
• Use an ad blocker
• Look out for cones of the website.

These two users joined the same bounty [BOUNTY DETECTIVE] Knight War - $10,000 Worth Of KWS REWARD POOL🔵 and find both in the spreadsheet

These two users [Xxmodded & bounceback] also joined the previous same bounty [Rangers Protocol] managed by Hhampuz. Check the spreadsheet.
I've been on the same signature campaign with a number of users here on the forum (if my memory serves me right), this however is not a proof that I am the same person behind the keyboard in most cases and it is not evidence enough to accuse a user of cheating a campaign.

There are several other accounts that are currently proven to be wrong so they have received a red tag from DT. Some other users I suspect are alt based on their activity patterns are:
Activity pattern is also not reason enough to accuse other users of being alts as you'll need more proof to support that.
2643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are implications of total satellite destruction on Bitcoin? on: November 16, 2021, 07:38:33 PM
This question is quite similar to the 'how will quantum computing affect Bitcoin'? Both scenarios are major disasters that would affect everyone globally and lead to losses in billions of dollars, but Bitcoin seems to be the primary concern.
it seems the purpose of questions like these is to verify how fool proof Bitcoin truly is and if it can truly stand the test of time besides natural occurrence.

As has been mentioned, Bitcoin would survive a situation like this and would still be usable. A meteorite hitting earth and destroying all live on it seems like a deal breaker though.
2644  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The US President New Restrictions on Crypto Businesses on: November 16, 2021, 07:18:32 PM
The bill rather seeks to increase transparency for the Internal Revenue Services (IRS). It also notes that digital asset transactions worth more than $10,000 shall be reported to the IRS. Furthermore, the bill also runs the risk of requiring node operators to identify information related to crypto transactions that they have no way of reporting.
This part of the article was what interested me the most, reporting digital asset transactions above $10,000 means it is being viewed as a fiat where all transactions are monitored and it can only work if the transaction happens over a regulated exchange which contains the user information and is legally required to submit it when required.

Secondly, what sort of information would be required from node operators and what situation would make this necessary? Seems like quite an unnecessary addition.

Obviously, this bill was not written in our own interests. Regardless, this is just one of the steps we have to get by in order to reach the level of adoption we are seeking.

Price may be affected in the short term, like in many scenarios. However, having clear and concise rules for crypto tax reporting seems like a blessing in disguise; legitimizing bitcoin further.
I'm not convinced yet that Bitcoin has to become a digital fiat to gain global adoption, users are just lazy and would rather the government control their funds for them.
The government shouldn't get to decide the rules for bitcoin.
2645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I'm new and looking to teach my kid this on: November 16, 2021, 06:51:38 PM
If you are going to mine, why not mine something profitable? Teaching your child an activity that makes you lose money doesn't seem like a good idea.
It seems to just be a learning process for the kid to build up more knowledge about a topic that interests them. Profit would also be nice in the scenario but not the main objective of starting up in the first place, particularly as they are quite unsure where exactly to start.
2646  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Face2Face is not Bitcoin ethics on: November 16, 2021, 02:07:21 PM
I cannot open the link but is it really that bad? Can authorities really do that? Are all types of crypto transactions there a criminal act now? I just came across another topic where they plant agents on P2P platforms like Binance and Paxful and use some crypto keywords to trigger the bank and close the customer account.
It is actually that bad and the government here are doing all they can to frustrate Bitcoin transactions inorder to maintain the control they have over the people; Bitcoin offers a level of freedom, especially to the younger generation who are quite frustrated with the state of the nation. After the ban, users flooded to P2P platforms same way people started using VPNs a lot after the Twitter ban, this sort of makes the ban irrelevant, so the government allegedly started infiltrating P2P platforms to block accounts of users still using Bitcoin.

Security and privacy are definitely important but if they cannot sell or spend their BTC anywhere else, they might as well take the risks of F2F.
A face to face transaction does not really remove the risk involved, the government could still infiltrate it and still block accounts involved.
2647  Economy / Reputation / Re: WARNING! Blacklist for Gambling Sites 1xbit "SCAM" !!! on: November 15, 2021, 09:12:25 PM
I also think that all the complaints here by newcomers are mostly for the reason to tarnish their reputation. only a few expect to get their money back. unfortunately, for some reason, only after they are deceived do they find this forum and a large number of scam accusations against 1xbit.

Finally, someone reasonable noticed what I have been signalizing for a long time.
These accusations come from brand new accounts that pop up with clockwork regularity. I'm not saying all of them, but in my opinion the large majority are part of an organized action.
It looks like you misunderstood the reply from examplens, it is not indemnifying 1xbit or accusing the alleged victims of being part of a team, it is rather talking about how the scam accusations against the platform are not not done in the hope that they'll get their money back, but rather to warn other members so they do not get ripped if as well.
Claiming that the large majority of accusations are made up just seems like backscratching at this point.
2648  Other / Meta / Re: Scam Projects should be moderated on: November 15, 2021, 08:31:54 PM
I get the forum is liberal and care about freedom of speech/thought but this is different.
Scams are not unmoderated because the forum cares about free speech, which it does of course, rather scams are unmoderated cause they cannot be effectively moderated. it's a case of choosing not to do something, cause you realize you cannot do it well and attempting to do it at all would create some problems.
1xbit is a pretty obvious scam and picking it out would be easy now, but there would be so many 'not so easy' scams to pick out and a lot more drama of how, Bitcointalk claims to moderate scams, but I lost my life savings on a website advertised there or how my legitimate project was banned cause a higher rank member accused me.

It's a complex issue the admin would rather avoid.

Also, if you're into Bitcoin where you effectively are your own bank, you should be able to use the red tag and banners as deterrent to void such obvious scams.
2649  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to get started ? on: November 15, 2021, 07:46:32 PM
But I was wondering, how do you actually get started with Bitcoin? I have read some articles about mining and the different things you can do to actually get some money in profit, but none of the articles actually go into depth with how to actually do all these things. I was wondering if anyone in the forum could help me and make any suggestions to me.
Getting started in Bitcoin is like getting started in any venture, you need to understand what you're getting into, this involves doing your research, finding the learning method that works for you and utilizing the tools available to you, this forum is one of those tools. After learning the basics, you can choose to go deeper into some other aspect that interests you, like the technology itself, or how to invest and learn a lot about that, this way you do not get lost in that vast amount of information available to you.
Learning is a gradual process.

I suggest if you haven't started with bitcoin then take a break and don't invest right now. Since the price of BTC is ATH or near to that. You may check alt coins that are low in price and have good cap and volume. I wont recommend any but if you look at CMC you will find loads of such coins for long term investment.
So, do not invest in Bitcoin cause it's too high, rather look for another potential shitcoin based off cap and volume and invest in that whole waiting for Bitcoin to crash? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
2650  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why exchanges stop trade pumped tokens? on: November 15, 2021, 10:24:32 AM
1- So, all of the "Biggest Gainers" are scams?
No, it's just a list of coins that have gained the most with the time period.
It could also indicate a pump and dump scheme as many of them would have their prices manipulated to attract FOMO.

2- If someone has those tokens, then how can he\she swap or sell them?
Look up exchanges that have them listed.
Cointrackers like CMC or coingecko take data from various too exchanges to give their information, but coins or tokens may not be on their list but are trading on some platform which would likely offer lower volume and liquidity.
2651  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why exchanges stop trade pumped tokens? on: November 15, 2021, 06:07:02 AM
Why, when a token pumped then exchanges stop trade that token?
Those coins were likely scams which were created by the developers just for profit and after the pump, the website was pulled down or the trading volume dropped to almost zero.
In such a scenario, the exchange has to delist those coins as there's not enough information for them to keep them on their charts or they have become outright scams.

most of them has "N/A" in the "Confidence" section. Why?
This means what it says, the inform is Not Available, likely because no one is talking about it and the exchange cannot assess that metric.
2652  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Rename the "Press" board to "Spammer of the Month" board on: November 14, 2021, 08:23:40 PM
But there is another reason why admins might be looking the other way.
The forum culture is generally dying out. People don't want to write on online forums as much as they did before. The press board (spammy as it is) still generates traffic in the same way that the altcoin boards do. The admins might not be willing to put another nail in the coffin by deleting a massive amount of threads in the altcoin and press boards and start banning more people. After all, "all publicity is good publicity".
Not all publicity is good publicity in my opinion.
Most of the traffic generated in those boards (press and altcoin) are from spammers and bounty hunters who do not care about the forum, but are only interested in reaching a certain post quota inorder to get a couple of tokens, this is net negative to the forum as it does not improve the quality of discussions, it makes the forum unappealing to older members and puts lots of work on the mods.
2653  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to take back unreasoonable Transaction Fee? on: November 14, 2021, 03:22:46 PM
Anyone may know how to take back the  unreasoonable Transaction Fee?
Transactions on the block chain are irreversible after they have been confirmed like this one, so no one can help you take back the transaction fee.

It take me 0.7 eth for the transaction. Is it reasonable?
$3k+ for a transaction fee is unreasonably high.
What platform where you using and did you have the option to check and verify the fee before sending?
2654  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do you know if current prices are corrected or going to correct? on: November 14, 2021, 10:33:05 AM
You do not really get to know, traders can speculate but cannot accurately determine when the price action changes. This is the reason it's better to buy and hodl if you do not have knowledge of technical analysis, you are not burdened with finding out where the price is going, you only need to understand the fundamentals and determine it's a project worth investing in.

When buying, it's better to Dollar Cost Average than to try and game the market and wait for the price to fall.
2655  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Rename the "Press" board to "Spammer of the Month" board on: November 14, 2021, 09:10:51 AM
I've been saying this for literally years (see my post below from 3 years ago), but for some reason we have done absolutely nothing to address it and Bitcoin Discussion is still a spamfest:
I gave up hoping to see some major changes some time back, I now only just read through and try to use a filter to choose what to interact with and what not to (I personally do not like the idea of ignoring a user or a board).
It's sort of ironic that as Bitcoin (the network) rises and gets more popular, bitcointalk (the chat forum), gradually declines, or at least a part of it does.
2656  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How trustworthy are coinbase and kraken? on: November 13, 2021, 09:52:02 PM
they are complaining that their accounts got frozen for further review, although they did full KYC.
One of the clauses in the terms and conditions you sign up for on centralized exchanges is that they can freeze your account if they have any reason to do so, which basically means they can do that when they want and request for additional information from you. Depositing a certain amount can also result in the exchange reporting your account to financial agencies and could lead to it getting locked.

What is your experience? Can you recommend coinbase and/or kraken for cashing out bigger amounts? Or any other exchange?
I have personally not used kraken and my definition of big amounts may be different from yours. If however, you have no problem with kYC and possibly revealing more information and your funds have not passed through a mixer, you can use one of the top "reputable" exchanges.
You could also try a P2P platform with higher liquidity.
2657  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Rename the "Press" board to "Spammer of the Month" board on: November 13, 2021, 09:23:46 PM
That's unfortunate, and why is it that this forum, with all the money it has at its disposal, can't afford to pay a sufficient number of moderators to keep boards like Press and all of the other spam pits clean and shiny?  If a mod has gone inactive, I'm pretty sure there are at least 3-5 members who'd jump at the chance to be a mod--and I'd imagine that Theymos has a mental list of members he'd consider, so why are sections allowed to go unmoderated?  I just don't get it.
This I do not understand.
Updates usually take an awful long time to be implemented on the forum and within that time period, the forum would likely have already lost a lot of members who for one reason or the other didn't find the forum welcoming or they couldn't cope with the tons of garbage posts. Lots of boards have become spam fests and the only solution is to put them on ignore;

Bitcoin discussion which should be the top board on s forum like this (and indeed is the top board by arrangement) has become almost impossible to read through, Economics board which was also one of my favorites had also been run over.

These are urgent issues, but the response to them is not so urgent or non existent.
2658  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I bought the copper membership and I still can't post images on: November 13, 2021, 06:01:15 PM
You are already wearing the copper membership tag, so it is likely not a cache error, you can try refreshing the page though.

Also, ensure you're using the correct format to post the image;
• Upload it on a site like imgur and copy the BBcode link
• Paste the link in the post you want it embedded in and put it between image tags;
Code:
[img][/img]
• Preview your text to ensure you've done it correctly.

I just checked your profile and it seems this is the first contribution you have made on the forum, so how can you tell it does not work?
You can use the preview option to know how the text would appear before making the post, and then can choose not to post it.
2659  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Meet bots asking you for otp on: November 13, 2021, 05:55:29 PM
I can imagine a lot of people falling for this type of scam as it utilizes many tools scammers he a lot; one of which is panic. When one gets a call or message that someone is ttin to access their account, they immediately would likely panic and want to get rid of the threat as soon as possible, rather than logging into their account and messaging support, replying the automated message would seem the quickest way to do so, and they'll be ripped off before they know what's happening.

Naivety also plays a role as Lucius pointed out. In the crypto space or on the internet generally, bone should treat any offer or contact as a scan until proven otherwise, this way they'll ask themselves some questions which would reveal that it indeed is a scan.
2660  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to spend smerits? on: November 13, 2021, 11:29:53 AM
How about you guys, what is your standard for giving merits?
I do not particularly have a standard besides meriting posts I find merit worthy depending on the rank of the user (for lower ranked members, I'll usually give merits for posts easier than for higher ranks).

Is there an unofficial rule when giving merits? And what is your standard to consider post a quality
Give merits to posts you find quality and do not sell them or send them to your alts.
My standard usually only expects effort from the user, some users would make posts without any due research and usually would not come back to check replies but move on to another thread. If a user makes an effort it shows they are trying to contribute to the forum.

Is there a limit to how much merits one can send?
I think it's 50 per merit transaction.
I believe it's 50 merits per month to a unique user.
