2041  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Wallet Download: How Do I Get Sending Address and Private Key? on: May 13, 2022, 09:32:03 PM
  • Bitcoin Wallet 7.69 seems to be the highest version compatible with my Android device.
  • Why the settings button (3 dots) is absent in the wallet and whether there is a way to recover it.
  • How to get the wallet behave as expected and generate seed phrase,  etc.
• This is possible. The compatibility depends on the device of the user and the wallet version, newer versions would not work on certain devices.

• This could be an issue with the version you're using. The feature should possibly still be there, not just with the same layout as now recent releases.

• Browse around the software and look for the option. Or rather than getting it to behave as expected, get a wallet that's already doing that.
Multiple posts in a row is against forum rules.
2042  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Emirates Airline will use 'Bitcoin as a Payment Service' on: May 13, 2022, 04:03:13 PM
Good news for Bitcoin as well as Emirates Airline. There was no report about how they would collect the payments and if they would hold some of their funds in Bitcoin.m, although with the current dip and uncertainty, this may not seem like the right time (although it's a pretty good time)

Are there still news sources that promotes that propaganda of bitcoin being a bubble or dead? If yes, who listens to them again? I was following such news as they were rampant, but after bitcoin survived covid-19 pandemic, most of the antagonist gave up. If they stick exist, maybe it's once in blue moon, during bitcoin dip period.
The current propaganda is about electricity consumption and environmental health which are promoted by banks and anti-bitcoiners. It's a baseless argument as the others before it, but trust the public to believe news without doing proper research.
I'm confident, this would pass, as all the other Bitcoin attacks before it
2043  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Another signal why to avoid CEX.... on: May 13, 2022, 02:04:40 PM
Not your keys not your funds is common phrase you might have heard of but still we see huge volumes over these exchanges and people trusting them like they will never cheat them or funds are safe but they have no idea about it.Keeping your funds on exchange have some other problems also which are not unnoticed but still some prefer to keep them over exchanges :
It may not seem as much, but the campaign against centralized exchanges as a storage point has some sort of impact on the users and would have made some to rather go for self custody over handing over your funds to a third party.
There would always be people who would not change despite the different warnings; banks can freeze your accounts at any time and require multiple credentials on registration and yet are very popular, so the concept of full transparency to any financial organization with perceived reputation is wide spread.

Many would argue that coinbase should not be going bankrupt anytime soon; however, the idea that your funds can be taken away at any time, frozen pending investigations, and these third party exchanges can change their ToS at anytime and you have to agree to the changes to keep using their service (with your funds in them) is already enough signals to avoid Cex.
2044  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Adding grey underline in every links on: May 13, 2022, 01:54:02 PM
I don't see how this can easily be abused for phishing. That's much easier by using a fake visible link: google.com.
I'm not sure how easy or practical this would be, but one way I can see this done is if a user creates a phishing link hidden in the post which will redirect to a fake forum log in page. If a users clicks on a link deliberately to take them there, they would be fairly certain it's a phishing link, but if they do not do so and just get redirected, that could be mistaken as a forum pop up which wants to confirm their password.

Regular members should easily spot this, but I wouldn't know for those who've not been here for a while.
2045  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Adding grey underline in every links on: May 13, 2022, 05:53:55 AM
This is a very good catch and just thinking of it, I can see so many ways this "bug" can be exploited and used to scam or steal accounts. Would not post them, as not to give anyone ideas, but a certain tag should be added so hyperlinks would be distinguished from the rear of the post.

Also, would it be possible to have a notification before opening links, sort of "are you sure you want to b redirected to..."
This would prevent inadvertently clicking on links, especially when you're on mobile.
2046  Other / Meta / Re: Is this allowed?? on: May 12, 2022, 12:22:40 PM
Usernames close to those of staff members or people with good reputation should be awarded with red paint. The guy from the OP could easily enter the DT if you just delete the last number of achows username by mistake.
I agree that situations like this should be considered as there is a possible security risk as you pointed out. I however do not agree that this should warrant a red tag on the user as it is a situation that can occur inadvertently, and affect innocent new members. It could also be the original user who created an alt account with a similar name.
A neutral tag and a public post such as this, or maybe a compilation of similar usernames would suffice.

If I do a random search on BPIP, there are quite a number of similar usernames for 'possibly' different users.
2047  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1 BTC = 1 BTC. You only lose if you sell. You're buying inflationary fiat. on: May 12, 2022, 12:01:38 PM
One tulip is still worth 1 tulip. Good job I didn't sell at the peak and buy a house
This tulip argument doesn't really apply. The tulip mania was fueled majorly by hype and fomo with no real utility. It was basically a bubble as we have seen in many instances.
When someone says, 1 BTC would remain so, it simply means that it retains the qualities that make it valuable, despite price corrections and dips and we've come through different market cycles, and still rebounded in price.

There was nothing really making tulips valuable besides the idea of luxury which it offered and once that dissipated, the bubble burst.
2048  Other / Meta / Re: My post was removed without explanation. What are my next steps? on: May 11, 2022, 07:28:45 PM
Seems the possibility to retrieve deleted/removed posts and the no notification/message receive, I guess the thread wasn't deleted, just moved to some board only mods can see and retrieve (correct me if im wrong though).
Yes. The thread would have been moved to trashcan upon which there would be no notification that the thread was deleted. Threads are moved there for this particular situation as it is possible to reinstate threads which are moved there, but only certain mods or the admin have this ability, IIRC.
2049  Other / Archival / Re: Gambling Campaigns on: May 11, 2022, 07:23:57 PM
Other services come across very rarely, and if they do appear, they exist for a short period of time and then leave this forum. The BestChange and ChipMixer campaigns are rather an exception to the rule, advertising non-gambling services that have existed here for years. Everything else is gambling.
If there are exceptions to something, then it means that the other possibility exists, that is to say that if there are projects besides gambling related ones that thrive off marketing on the forum (could be one or two), then there can be more regardless of the idea that the forum users are more interested in gambling or there are better marketing options for non gambling related projects.

Maybe if those other projects take a page from BesChange or Chipmixer play book then they could get quality advertisment on the forum and reach out to the right audience through quality marketing.
2050  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Use P2P methods to sell your crypto in local currency. on: May 10, 2022, 06:46:16 PM
It is very hard to determine who is telling the truth.
It's not that hard actually.
If a user sells to a local buyer and another forum user sells to the same local buyer, chances are that this buyer would be dealing with a lot more users than them and would likely be sending out constantly to exchange the currencies.
If you track the blockchain transactions then you can see all the incoming and outgoing transactions and make a calculated guess; If the transaction has only occured between the two users then and no activity to suggest the account sent to is a trading account, then it would be difficult to prove they are not connected.
2051  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Worth investing? on: May 10, 2022, 06:22:34 PM
It depends on how long such hype and momentum can be fueled. In the best case, such a thing can last for years. As already written, Doge and Shiba are very good examples. There are also others. In the case of Doge, this trend has been going on for a few years, even though Elon Musk is a strong promoter of it which helps much. With Shiba, it has been going on for a little more than a year now and it still works. From the technological side there are hundreds of better projects out there.
That's true, Shiba has been around for a while and Doge, even longer built manly on hype and a market to support its growth. Would be interesting to see how much the hype and momentum can carry it. I personally as an investor would not bank long term on an asset which is only built on hype.
2052  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Use P2P methods to sell your crypto in local currency. on: May 10, 2022, 05:37:02 PM
it is possible and logical that some hunters could sell their crypto to that same buyer.
It is very possible and is considered in different cases, I'm on DT2 and I consider it. I've also seen threads were users were accused of being alts due to related blockchain transaction, but it was quickly debunked as being too vague to serve as evidence; A case by case basis, sort of.

If you come acirsee such threads and go through the evidence, you can aseell consider them and comment or tag based on your conclusions.
2053  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Happy to be here. on: May 10, 2022, 05:21:18 PM
So far in my very short time here, I have opened a lot of pages here
That would set you apart from about 90%+ of the users who sign up here, but do not bother to read about the forum they are on.
There are thousands of helpful threads around the forum which would help you grow in Bitcoin and also acquaint you with how the forum works, the rules posted above is one of them. Also be on the lookout for stickies; they are threads pinned to the top of different boards and give basic information about those boards or general Bitcoin knowledge.

Welcome to the forum and good luck, make what you want of it.
2054  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it Really Trustworthy? on: May 10, 2022, 05:13:53 PM
Suppose you woke up tomorrow morning and found that Bitcoin had dropped to 0$, or that Bitcoin had disappeared or been scammed. How will you be at that moment?
First scenario; Bitcoin going down to $0. That would be a huge shock on my path, I'll probably be stunned for quite a while as I cannot think of any logical reasoning for that to happen; and my first step would be to know what might have caused that, let's say there was a hypothetical reason that made Bitcoin to lose all of its market value but doesn't inherently affect how it operates, I'll definitely possibly buy more and hodl, hopefully the world comes back to its senses soon. I'll be wary of such situation happening again.
If it was a situation that does affect the integrity of the network, I might hesitate a bit to determine to what extent, before deciding if to buy or not.

Second and third scenario; are literally just wild assumptions. An individual can make a mistake and their bitcoins disappear or are stolen, if I were to be in that situation, it would be a huge burner and I'll have to start building from scratch again to grow my Bitcoin portfolio.

The entire network cannot disappear or get stolen.
2055  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Signature on copper membership on: May 09, 2022, 03:38:32 PM
I'm currently building a pretty unique casino review website with a lot of new features and I don't want my time and money to result in nothing. That's why I'm asking Smiley
Marketing is an important factor of building any business and you should have budgeted for that from the beginning. No business can thrive without publicity.
If you really want effective publicity, simply buying copper membership and wearing one might not reach out to much users. (You can of course market on other social platforms)
Does your casino accept cryptocurrency, if so, then you should consider the advice on running a signature campaign. You can check out similar projects in the services section. You can handle it yourself if you're up for it or hire a campaign manager; I happen to be one.

To be honest, I don't know exactly whether newbie can use signature or not because as a registered user in 2020, I never had a signature space on my profile. Maybe previously allowed for some characters before changing, but maybe I missed it.
Newbies can no longer wear signatures, since the enhanced newbie restrictions;
Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text.
2056  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you want to live a peaceful life? Without drama? Then HODL and enjoy the ride on: May 09, 2022, 03:28:22 PM
I applaud your hands of steel. When you go through different market cycles, the thirll of price increases does not impact you much, neither does the panic of price drops, it's just a series of ups and downs, depending on the season, and the assurance that the price net direction is upwards.

You are a true Bitcoiner among us all. I was first to know about bitcoin in 2015 but unfortunately, I was not wise enough to maintain bitcoin in my portfolio. In fact, life was quite tough for me which forced me to sell all my bitcoin during the 2018 downtrend.
When you need to to do something, you need to. Selling your Bitcoin a times when you needed the money does not make you mad of a bitcoiner, it was something you had to do.
My advice would be to manage your investment and only put in money you would not need in an emergency situation, that way you will not need to panic sell.

This cycle is deadlier than all the previous. Many of my friends are crying about losing money both in Cryptocurrency and stocks.
You only lose when you sell.
2057  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Signature on copper membership on: May 09, 2022, 03:11:54 PM
You can promote it yourself with simple signature until you rank up, but there are other ways you can promote your business in bitcointalk forum.
The OP would not be able to post any signature unless they get at least one merit to rank up to Jr. Member or if they buy copper membership, the period of signatures for newbie has been disabled for sometime now.
Your other suggestions about how the OP can get publicity would surely help.

Op if you are willing to discuss the business you plan to market, then you can get more appropriate help for your marketing.
2058  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Worth investing? on: May 09, 2022, 11:47:33 AM
I should point out that integrating a platform cause of the hype around it seems a bit like fishing for investors rather than building a sustainable project. Devs ever so often would change their marketing approach to suit the current trends so as to profit off those trends and that seems a bit dubious, not saying that's what Oasis is particularly doing as I've not followed the project.

Hype, momentum and marketing are much more important factors for the success of a crypto project, just look at Doge or Shiba. What I want to say is, don't worry about the technology if you want to see price increases for your investment.
How long are these factors expected to carry a project? Hype an momentum and fleeting qualities as there's always the next hype which comes up, and marketing tends to follow hype and trends.
2059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why didn't I buy bitcoin? (article translation) on: May 09, 2022, 11:40:58 AM
Good read of a very common situation which would apply to a lot of people. And why I would want to fault the reasoning of mistrust or hesitation at the time when there was very little credible information about Bitcoin, it is interesting to note that such hesitation would save one from bad investments more often then not.

One thing I found ironic about the whole read was how initially, it was puzzling that you could mine out of nothing; as nothing should come free. And, after dropping it and dabbling back in years later, it was puzzling that it came with an electricity bill. Both situations seemed mildly contradictory.
2060  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Kriptomat on: May 09, 2022, 11:07:23 AM
As we have stated, here several parties are involved including the customer's bank which seems to be unresponsive so far to our inquiries related to certain checks they need to perform.
This is quite a vague response. So I'm essence, you cannot send the money to the user's bank cause of checks the bank is unresponsive to?
How I understand the process, after the crypto exchange forwards the payment request to the bank, they verify and confirm it, then credit the customer, which stage in this communication are you at now or am I getting it all wrong?
