2681  Other / Meta / Re: Curious Question about Meriting on: July 06, 2022, 06:37:28 AM
When I first joined this forum back in 2011, tipping with Bitcoin was fairly common.
<***>
By the end of 2017, you'd have paid a $75 transaction fee just to tip a satoshi.  Hence why Bitcoin went from being billed as a p2p currency to a store of value.  Now nobody sends each other anything, but number go up.

Thanks for sharing and that would had been a lovely experience to have, imagine just receiving some Bitcoin (not minding how small it is) for your post been useful. Maybe that could had been more productive then the merit system. I always wondered what the function of us having an option to input our Bitcoin address on our profile was doing in our profile sitting since I haven't seen any usefulness of it. Theymos should probably look into making this a thing, like selling the idea to the forum, it could be an alternative to meriting and we could use lighten network for less fee.

OP I think the only time I have been so impressed was when I was trying to understand the trust system and a user came out with an infographic explanation that give me everything I needed to know and was so impressed that I wrote them directly.  And as for the meriting system above I don't buy into it, I can't merit you for liking your post but I can merit for your effort irrespective of my stand on the topic but again that's the users guidelines and that's fine if it works out for him/her.
2682  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How quick does the market grow during bull market? on: July 06, 2022, 04:47:47 AM
I understand none of us know exactly when the next bull market will be here but I am just wondering if anyone could give me their experience with what it was like during previous bull markets and how fast we can expect our investments to grow again?

This is my second bear market experience in the space, the first was in 2018 after the 2017 bull cycle. Something I have learnt is that majority of the coins currently been hyped won't have same hype next bull run which is why you don't have to buy into their hype right now. I don't know the coins you're holding but just know they mightn't recover. A new wave of altcoins would be introduced into the market just as we didn't have Defi, gamefi, metaverse categories in previous bull run so be cautious of your investment.

We have coins that have a history of recovering and the chance of them still existing by the time the next bull market come is high which are Ethereum and Bitcoin. This coins buying them now can give you 2-5x in the future. Investing in those instead of the thousands of shitcoin out there would be more safe. The bull cycle usually comes after Bitcoin halving has been completed so don't be expecting the bull market fully anything soon.
2683  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My First Investments on: July 06, 2022, 04:35:17 AM
Diversifying is a good things but it's not riskless. Take your time and dyor on he projects you are investing in.

When you do what everybody is doing you can't stand out of the crowd. Majority of the speculators in the space are diversifying into different altcoins that get them burn when the market tanks. If you join the party you won't be any different from the thousands of speculators crying about their portfolio getting crushed by the bear market that most likely won't recover when the bull market begins. When you diversify in a correlated assets you're doing the direct opposite of what diversifying is suppose to do to your portfolio.

You diversify so when a particular assets class is down, you have other options to bring in cash flow to your account. That means diversifying should involved assets of different classes like investing in Cryptocurrency, Real estate, Bonds, Stocks etc. You shouldn't go around buying worthless shitcoin without any utilities and thinking you're diversifying. You're just gambling and not investing, that should be realized on time so you can take profit if the market is to favor you instead of bonding to a project that most likely without recover if they get hit by a bear market.

I am a newbie and would like to invest $1000 to start. I have read that I should put 40 percent into bitcoin and diversify the other 60 percent. I need opinions, advice, and anything from those with experience of positive value. Smiley

I might be late but I hope you consider my opinion if you haven't invested already. Do note that nobody here is qualified to give you financial advice so don't consider anything you see her as one instead use them as a guideline as you do your personal research. The stats are available on the net in regards to how the outcome of bear market has been in the past. Majority of the project you're supposedly diversifying into right now would probably die off or not get back to the level of hyped they had previously before the bear market began which gave them high trading price.

What this means is that you should stay away from them by all means possible although that doesn't mean you should just invest all your capital at ones into the market. We don't know how low the market can go but we're getting closer or might have already reaches therefore the best strategy would be to DCA (Dollar cost average) your investment into Bitcoin.
2688  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Difference Between Bitcoin and Crypto currency on: July 03, 2022, 08:04:56 PM
Going through a lot of thread here,Am convinced that Bitcoin and cryptocurrency serves as a means of Exchange for trading.
Am still trying to understand the clear difference between the both and know how to place them in their separate parts..
I'll like to know more and be corrected where am wrong.

You first have to understand that Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency but not all so called cryptocurency available in the market today are actually cryptocurency. Some are supposed to be currency but aren't used as such instead just used for speculative purpose (trading) while others are tokens meant to be used for building but now have speculative value. Bitcoin is the only one actually been used for it's purpose of creation. Bitcoin was created to be used as a means of exchange (Peer2Peer) which although that hasn't been fully achieved but it's the closest to been called a cryptocurrency out of the thousands trading in the market.

Before you go on exploring other cryptocurency in the market, do understand that Bitcoin is in replaced while other cryptocurency can be easily replace considering that 90% of the coins available in the market has similar utility. Bitcoin stands out form all other cryptocurency available on the market due to the trust the community has in it as a result of Its true decentralized form and years of existence. Just so you know, Bitcoin is the older among all trading crypto coins or tokens.
2689  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Then what will happen to your account? on: July 03, 2022, 07:43:23 PM
You have failed as a parent if all you can think about your kids inheriting from you is your Bitcointallk account. That's just like passing down your facebook logins to your kids as inheritance. Assuming there was an internal revenue from the forum for your past useful posts then you could consider what happens to your account after you die. For instance if the forum was like YouTube that keep paying for the contents you have created until the earning privilege is disabled them you this discussion would had been useful bit since it isn't the discussion become useless.

If you have business hosted on the forum that can be actually passed down to your kids then don't restrict them to just your account, excluding that and you're just relying on the signature/bounty campaigns earnings then go get a life. Immediately your account is found to have changed hands there are high chances of you getting mark especially when it was a well known account on the forum.
2690  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion Thread || Current discussion: AFCON 2023 qualifiers. on: July 03, 2022, 07:05:27 PM
Quote from: Masplanc
The Super Eagles are not just lacking luck but they are lacking so many things that are bringing set back to them. Football is not all about luck sometimes, their are some certain things that are necessary for a team to possess. Super eagles needs to work very hard to be what they used to be like before.

I won't say luck because they didn't play so well that you should expect luck to play in their favour, I'm assuming you're taking about the games that lead to the world cup that's the world cup qualifiers. That was the last time I saw the Super Eagles playing badly, after then their performances so far has been very decent especially under this new coach. They're currently topping their group with the best goal difference in the whole tournament and not just their group.

They're are steadily improving and the transfer window has been favoring the Super Eagles player as they're getting good club interest. And with good playing time at club level will result to better exposure, it'll give the players more experience that they can use to dominate the domestic tournaments in Africa. We just have to give this guys times.
2691  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling is for big bag holders on: July 03, 2022, 06:57:02 PM
It's not a big bag game although just like everything else which involves money, having huge capital has its advantage as you can't compare the gains of someone betting with few dollars and those better with millions. Having just huge bag doesn't guarantee you succeeding as if you aren't luckily you would probably loss all the big bag you thought you had. Haven't you heard stories of gamblers losing thousands of millions. Assuming gaming was just for the big bag holders that means they should be the one wining instead of us hearing stories of them losing.

Gambling has alot to do with skills especially for those games that require skills and knowledge of the game you're playing and luck as well because if you aren't the lucky type you probably will lose all your money trying to win back your losses.
2692  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and MLM Schemes on: July 03, 2022, 06:40:42 PM
Gambling and multilevel marketing are different and not alike just as others have highlighted. Why you think people loss in MLM is because majority out there are scams but that doesn't mean the marketing technique is a scam itself. Also many ponzi scheme are hiding under the umbrella of been a multi level marketing company to scam people which is why people are associating MLM with Ponzi.

Understandably gambling platforms has began buying into the idea of MLM as I noticed some sites has began using it as a means to get users into their platform. Probably that's why the OP is getting the confusion form. But understand that MLM itself is just a technique to bringing customers to your business by rewarding those that does the marketing for you with a tier system and if deploying it in your casino would be effect, I don't see anything wrong with that.

HIP-36 APY Reduction for the next weeks until the emission plan starts Active:

Yesterday, we took the day to share our views with some experienced and trusted community members. We listened to their comments, concerns and advice to ensure that what we propose to you now is a well thought out approach to the problem at hand. We’re incredibly grateful for their feedback and support as we continue to shepherd this community towards its bright future. As market conditions continue to deteriorate, Core team has been in deep conversation about protecting Hector Finance’s long-term health and continued growth. We have always believed that a healthy token price is superior for our community and users rather than a short-term boom followed by a quick fizzle. It’s imperative that we remain agile. What worked last week, last month, and last year does not work now. This isn’t because we’ve failed to plan for the future, but instead that it would have been irresponsible to force the community into ‘bear market conditions’ when it wasn’t necessary. We’ve adapted as quickly as the markets and community support will allow and are committed to continuing.

We know that reducing APY is likely to produce negative feedback from some community members, but we were clear that it was our wish to keep the APY above 100% *if possible* “However, at this moment it is fair to assume a starting range of between 100 and 200% is very likely” Since these words were written, plenty of things have shifted in the markets; unfortunately, very few are optimistic. Additionally, if we’d been able to enact the emissions plan in May, as initially hoped, we would have been in a position to follow through with this APY. The additional month/month plus has resulted in a substantial number of tokens produced and distributed, increasing our supply above where we had hoped to launch the emissions plan. As always, our job as the Hector Finance team is to find the most effective way forward for the majority of our community, and that is what we intend to do. We are building a blockchain empire focused on actual utility, innovation and expansion, but to do that, we need to keep Hector Finance thriving through the storms.

We believe that reducing the APY is essential to the emission plan launch in the current market conditions. The success of this emissions plan should be close to the heart of every Hectorian as it fundamentally is the future of our market cap and price. Making this move will shorten the timeline to seeing the positive price action results and a lower circulating supply, both pillars of security for our Protocol and users. Initially, we had intended to have a binary vote; however, after the intake of feedback yesterday, we now see several options for the community to debate and cast their ballots.

A. APY Reduction instant to 20% until the emission plan starts; the APY bumps back to 50% for the launch of the emission plan

B. APY Reduction instant to 50% until the emission plan starts; the APY stays at 50% for the launch of the emission plan.

C. No appropriate option was provided.

You will note that the top three options have us starting the emissions plan at 50% APY. Using the best of our calculations, and admitting that some factors are unforeseen and outside our control, this figure provides us with the best chance of prosperity throughout the continued dark market. Locking in this figure now means we will have a single variable to calculate the emissions plan, the circulating supply. The actual value of Hector Finance lies not in her rebase program, but in the ecosystem, we are building together. We have plenty of announcements coming out in the next few weeks that will catch the eyes of new potential users, not least of which is announcing the name of our legendary new football partner. The connection to the team has already begun opening impressive doors to our development team behind the scenes. And we are unbelievably excited to start sharing some of those developments with you. We’re amping up for a very bullish summer, and we’re intent on ensuring the foundation is solid to support what we’re building. Projects with lower, more sustainable APY have a better track record of attracting large long-term investors because they are built to last. As we expand our ecosystem, which we are not rapidly doing, attracting these key players will be critical.

We have the best community in the blockchain. That much is evident everywhere we look. We hope you can see our long-term vision for the community, this Protocol and what we intend to create. We believe that our society is here for much more than just the APY and that you will see the wisdom in what we’re proposing. The emissions plan will start in approximately 4 weeks. To give you some insight into the impact of this reduction at this time: We did buybacks during the last 50 days of 5 million dollars and took approximately 500,000 tokens out of supply. If we froze the APY at the top of those 50 days, we would have a circulating supply of around 2,270,000 tokens, and, while no one can know for sure, that freeze could be reflected by positive price
action as well.

How does dropping APY affect our Protocol over the next four weeks:
APY 100%: over 130,000 additional Tokens in circulation within a month. (BB Value over $1.4 Million)
APY 50%: over 65,000 additional tokens in circulation within a month. (BB Value over $700K)
APY 20%: ~26,000 additional tokens in circulation within a month. (BB Value over $280K)
The BB Value is calculated based on the current price and will be more with price increases.

We realize that lowering the APY further is not part of the get rich quick crypto dream; however, it is a sustainable starting place for the emissions plan, and if we don’t achieve that, we may as well not bother. We want our community to discuss this among yourselves and take this opportunity to seriously consider what we are suggesting, ask questions, talk amongst yourselves, and cast your vote. These steps towards our future must be taken together.

2699  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An alternative to gambling with money. on: June 30, 2022, 05:30:50 AM
I think your words are correct. I also think this method is less effective. although it works for some people but I think the success ratio is very low. so it's better to look for other alternative ways to get rid of gambling addiction. you can find a new hobby. exercise or travel. and it could also be by working with more time. so we can only use the remaining time to rest. and no time to gamble.

It'll only be productive to users that don't gamble as a means of getting some financial assistance, that's users that only gamble for the fun and entertainment that comes with it. A gambler who got addicted due to the desperation of money who never find this alternative useful instead something else that fetches money for the user could have more impact. This is why before you want to help an addict, you must first find out why he/she is addicted instead of to general a solution.

People gamble as a result of loneliness, boredom etc. Giving them an option to bet with fake money doesn't stop their addiction instead it could trigger it more but solving that problem that leads to them gambling as a solution would stop them from gambling so engaging them with activity like setting them on date night could help more instead of your suggested alternative.
2700  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: To build your Professionalism on casino on: June 30, 2022, 05:00:00 AM
You are right in putting this one on your first point, everything about gambling should start and end on this advice, it's your safety net changing your mindset will change the outcome of how you play, and you will be disappointed with your losses you will try to regain it and you will want to play more deposit more and you will end up a compulsive gambler.

If you find yourself doing so then you're only performing a revenge gamble and just like that of revenge trade, there's every possibility that you'll lose. As a gamble not even a professional attempting revenge gambling should never be embarked on instead when you lose, you cut your loss and move on for the time being. At that point your judgment will be clouded with revenge and winning back your lost money and would probably make decisions that won't be favorable to you.

Professionalism comes with a lot of learning so before you call yourself one, you should be able to coup under pressure. Calling yourself a professional yet you gamble just like most average gambler doesn't make you one. A professional gambler should be able to get winnings regularly as gambling is like a source of income to them as such, they shouldn't be gambling as a means of pleasure or entertainment instead as means of livelihood and yes you can earn a lively from gambling.
