Roll Eyes )

If you changed the default password for the miner you need to change that in WhatsMiner Tool as well, go to settings > current password and enter the correct password.
2683  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to determine which hashboard is faulty in S17 Pro 53th on: March 02, 2021, 11:31:49 PM
As for the miner stats page, If I see 1, or 2, or 3, under hashboards, I guess I don't know which hashboard is which. Like 1, 2, 3, left to right or left to right, from the front of the miner. If that makes sense.

The hashboards are sockets are labeled on the control board, just follow the ribbon cable from the hashboard to the control board and you will see each has a number, ignore the number as it's sometimes different on the 17 series but focus order, for an example if you have J4, J5, J6 on the control board, and 1,2,3 on the miner status page, J4 will 1, J5 will be 2 and J6 will be 3.

To double-check you can just unplug the cable that goes to the board and then power the miner on to check for any changes.

I'll post some logs to see if you guys know what is happening, because I just bought these from Alibaba a few weeks ago

Yes, the kernel log has some useful info in it. You should never buy mining gears off Alibaba and Aliexpres.
2684  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to determine which hashboard is faulty in S17 Pro 53th on: March 02, 2021, 11:01:32 PM
Someone mentioned to me to see which part of the fans are blowing cold air. In one of them the top part of the fans were cold, and the bottom two halves were hot. So I guess the top section of one of the fans were cold. But what does that tell me?

It tells you that you and that person are trying to reinvent the wheel, the kernel log will tell you exactly which hashboard is dead, in fact, it even appears in the miner status (the very page that tells you which 2 hashboards are working fine), if you can't figure that out - paste the kernel log here and a screenshot of the miner status page.
2685  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: March 02, 2021, 09:18:03 PM
I also do believe that we will eventually hit 500k but that is a very long term target for me, also mining space gold is something I take with a grain of salt as I don't see that happening in the near future, probably not while I am alive, those events are very far away and I don't think they hold much value for now, I am focusing on the current cycle we are in.

Every candle here represents 3 months worth of price data, you see that we spend the majority of time in the lower green area, this is how things have been since 2013 and I see no reason as to why this would change, if you look at the right side of the chart I drew an "imaginary" future candles, those are a replica of the last cycle candles, the chart suggests that in the next 3 months candle we should be in the red zone, with the potential price of as high as 195k before reverting back to our "median" channel with the color green.

The theoretical bottom for the next cycle should be at around 50k and will come at the second half of 2022, but for the entire year and the last quarter of this year the price should be at around 60-80k and we won't make any new ATHs until 2024.

I also believe this analysis model is a bit too optimistic because it doesn't take "diminishing returns" into calculations, so I think of these numbers as the ultimate most optimistic bull scenario.
2686  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: s9 fan error on: March 02, 2021, 07:55:58 PM
[...]

You have two bad chains, only J6 is in perfect condition, J7 should/might work with a bit less hashrate, but J8 is dead, you could go ahead and do all the troubleshooting Phill recommended but my guess is that hashboard is dead. it's not uncommon for used miners, where did you buy it from?
2687  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: March 02, 2021, 02:36:42 PM
The best is yet to come.  100k in less than 1 year from today and the diff will not untracked itself for at least 8-10 months.

Phill are you still holding on to your last year's predictions for the difficulty?  Do you see us go to 35-40T by the end of this year?

While i am not completely against the potential 100k or more theory i highly believe that won't last for long, in all previous cycles we tend to spend the most time at below 50% of the ATH, the last cycle we spent most of the time at about 6-8k before making a new time high, so maybe 40-50k will be the average for the coming years. I need to do more math and chart analysis on this.
2688  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: March 02, 2021, 12:12:44 AM
We are almost 1500 blocks into this round and we are lagging, so a negative adjustment is very likely.

Latest Block:   672757  (8 minutes ago)
Current Pace:   98.4372%  (1430 / 1452.70 expected, 22.7 behind)
Next Difficulty Change:   between -1.5328% and -1.4051%
Next Retarget (latest):   Saturday at 5:16 AM  (in 4d 3h 13m 1s)
Projected Epoch Length:   between 14d 4h 53m 0s and 14d 5h 20m 3s

This is good news for miners, despite the price drop, back around the end of October we were at a difficulty level of 18.8T and a price of 10k bitcoin, we are now 400% up in terms of price but only 16% up in terms of difficulty.

This means if you used to make 0.1BTC a month you now make 0.084BTC, but instead of that being equal to $1000 it's now worth $4,200, which is 320% more profit, I guess most of us have not witnessed such great times and will probably never will after this.
2689  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Innosilicon T2TH+ 37T - autotuning FOREVER? on: March 01, 2021, 11:36:29 PM
... the hash is solid, almost never wavers away from 19/20.

Then it is not tuning at all, tunning should have a fluctuating hashrate rate, it would settle down at one point before it drops again and then attempt to go higher or lower than the previous high, the intervals will pretty much depend on how the firmware is coded, but you should see fluctuation in the hashrate every couple minutes.

... hard reset.  It's tuning we will see.

Good luck, hope this works.

2692  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Innosilicon T2TH+ 37T - autotuning FOREVER? on: March 01, 2021, 01:17:53 PM
Logs -  I wish... no access to logs.  It's not an option anywhere and I even tried

Why would they do that? it's probably hidden somewhere, try to inspect the main page and look for hidden pages/tabs.

The crazy thing is, the hashrate doesn't change... It's rock solid at 19 - 20 TH (although that's super low) with almost no variation, but on the status screen " Please note the miner is autotuning, hashrate may vary until completion!"

Can you attempt a hard reset using the reset button on the control board?
2693  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: March 01, 2021, 12:31:18 PM
What kind of glue use the heatsinks of the S17 T17 hashboards?

The cheapest would be the black glue from China, it's available on both Aliexpress and Zuesbtc > https://www.zeusbtc.com/RepairDetails.asp?ID=86, keep in mind that this product can't be stored outside the fridge for more than 10 days, so check with the seller as well as the carrier, the second option which is a lot more expensive but probably has better quality and easier to get would be Arctic > https://www.amazon.com/Arctic-Silver-Premium-Adhesive-ASTA-7G/dp/B0087X7262.

wndsnb also mentioned using a different product somewhere which I can't find, I hope he would chime in and post the link
Roll Eyes

2695  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer T9 - not the T9+ on: March 01, 2021, 01:30:07 AM
Please use the code function to paste the kernel, something like this

Code:
driver-btm-c5.c:2990:check_fan_beforeInit: get fan[5] speed=1200

The above example also shows that fan 5 is bad, reporting only 1200rpm which won't allow the miner to start, while this could be caused by the fact that you flashed a different firmware, it likely needs a replaclement. So replace fan 5 and then repost the kernel log, it will be a lot clearer without a fan error in place, however, chances are you are going to end up Sdcarding the miner and installing the T9 firmware version.
2696  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S9 questions and data on: March 01, 2021, 12:53:30 AM
1) What is considered a good price for the S9?

it's $400-500 now in China, depending on the quantity and your resources, so I think that is a good buy? I don't know!

2) What is the most stable version? Is the 13.5 THz the 14THz S9J?

Not a huge difference, the ones with higher hashrate have slightly better chips overall, but the difference is too small to be considered.

3) What is the life expectancy that see those miners will have, since the coming months there are tons of S19 and other modern technology miners arriving in the market and the current difficulty skyrocketing?

Lifespan for all miners is really random and luck-based, it could be 1 month or 5 years, I usually take 6 months or less into account, I assume they will break and die by then, although I have some gears hashing just fine for 4 years, some died in 2 days, you can't really tell.

We create a whole topic for difficulty predictions, we all have different things to say, my prediction is a slow and steady increase in difficulty until year-end, no skyrocketing what so ever, check the topic by NFW to see my predictions and the reasoning behind it,  keep in mind, I made more wrong predictions than I remember.  Grin

4) I have calculated the break even point at around 110 days in a price around $300 and the price of 0.06 cents. Does it make sense to purchase with that ROI?

If you can find an S9 for $300 ready to ship, that would be a deal given the current market price, at 6 cents you need this price mania to keep going, once things cool off you won't be profitable with an S9 at 6 cents, but until that happens, you should be good.

5) Is there a trustworthy overclocking firmware? I have read all the relevant topics from the forum but I didn't found anything that seems trustworthy. Does is makes sense to immerse cool them?

BraiinOS, Vanish, and the mods that thierry4wd make are the only ones I would trust.

And, forget about liquid cooling, it's economically useless, unless you get it for free it makes 0 sense unless you want a very quiet set up or plan to make some youtube videos or to impress the fellow ladies miners then anything except the default air cooling will come at a cost which will put you at a higher risk of losing more money, in plain English, ditch immersion cooling all together if you plan to actually make some profit.

From what I have read on other posts I think the same. S9 and j versions I think are ok, but I NotFuzzyWarm has a different experience.

NFW probably thought it's the K version which is indeed a terrible gear to own, you can see me "nag" about them here, the S9j is a robust gear, nowadays it's even better to buy the J than the original S9 because the latter is a bit too old, the problem is, some resellers will swap the old S9 hash boards into an S9j miner or simply change the sticker, and you can't really tell the difference, this is why if you don't trust the seller you should go for the S9i which is as robust but has different dimensions and thus can't be faked.
2697  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer T9 - not the T9+ on: February 28, 2021, 11:54:10 PM
I have the firmware installed on my t9; the t9+ firmware but the miner doesn't hash; its as if control board doesn't send the command to the cards on the miner. the Miner produces chain errors in the logs.

What is the chain error? copy and paste the kernel log here.

This could a firmware issue, while T9, T9+, and S9 (all models except the k and SE) use the same control board, each has its own firmware, just like how T17, S17 and S17 pro use the same control board but you can't run a T17 with say the S17 pro firmware, I do not have T9 to test but I'd guess the same logic applies, so you need to get rid of that T9+ firmware using a Sdcard and then flash the T9 firmware ( I included all links in my previous post)
2698  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: ASIC miner PV-powered operation on: February 28, 2021, 09:50:46 PM
BraiinOS isn't a bad choice at all, it has a plus to it which is the no-fee version, however, depending on the frequency of your restarts you might need to use the fastest firmware to reboot which might or might not be BO, how often do you think you will need to restart the miner based on the current PV readings you have? I know it will depend on a lot of factors but you should have a rough estimate, I am afraid too much rebooting might damage some stuff.
2699  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer T9 - not the T9+ on: February 28, 2021, 07:19:18 PM
cannot find signature

You flashed the recent firmware from bitmain which is a one-way street, you will need to use the recovery file and an SDcard to revert back to an older version, you will need to find the T9 recovery firmware which is no where to be found, but I believe you can use the T9+ files since they both use the same control board, this very version is what we use on the S9/S9i and S9j as well.
2700  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: ASIC miner PV-powered operation on: February 28, 2021, 05:58:03 PM
Thanks again. Unless somebody has made (and is willing to share) experiences in that field, I will probably have to jump into the cold water and try how far I can get here.

I don't know someone who did "exactly" what you aim to do, but the path to it is similar, for example, I used AwsomeMiner to underclock my miners and increase the fan speed in the afternoon in the summer, it was an easy set-and-forget approach, some people have an auto turn on/off based on some other inputs, all that AwesomeMiner and the other paid software do is send an SSH command to perform all that, so the method to what you need is exactly the same except that you will be using different parameters for your script, I use time and miner temp, you will use the data output from your PV system, so this isn't going to be difficult IMO.
