1701  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: bad time or good time to buy asic miner on: April 06, 2022, 12:56:37 AM
Likewise, during a bear market, not only does your profit margin get squeezed; but your equipment falls in value too. It's better to try to sell if the price has went downhill for 1-2 months and the momentum has ended.

This is called timing the market, if one can do it as perfectly as you describe it, they would be better off with just trading and not having to deal with all the mess associated with mining gears.

treating the gear as if you are holding that asset it mines is just a bad idea, when you invest in a mining gear it has to generate more of that given asset than you could otherwise buy with the cash you are willing to invest, or else, it's just a losing game, as it stands right now, most new gears have over 1 year ROI, thanks to the unlimited money supply the U.S investors have, they are throwing money at Bitmain and MicroBT and now Intel, like there is no tomorrow, some of them, will go broke that is for sure, but to many of them they don't play our rules, they recycle otherwise wasted energy and mine at a cost near zero, you are competing against those same people, so good luck.
1702  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Assuming that Government wake's up and crack down mining across the Globe. on: April 05, 2022, 05:16:51 AM
It will be nice if you further state more reason you think so about why the price isn't going to increase and go to zero, does it mean that Bitcoin cannot work without miners?.

I do NOT think the price is going to zero, my statement was:

Quote
but if they were to magically stop all miners from mining forever, then BTC will not increase in price, it will go to zero

The keyword here is "magically stop all miners" because it will be impossible to do so, 1 old PC sitting somewhere in the dark can maintain the network on its own,  the operation of mining does not need all the hashrate it has now, more hashrate does make bitcoin more secured but again even an old Nokia mobile can do the trick, so stoping all BTC mining operations isn't feasible, but if we were to 'hypothetically' assume it happened -- then nobody will be able to transact BTCbecause the transactions need to be put into blocks created by at least 1 miner, and thus, having bitcoin in your wallet will be no different than having 1 billion dollars in your wild dreams, none of these assets have any value in real life.

For this to make sense to you, you need to read about bitcoin mining and difficulty adjustment, once you fully understand that mining bitcoin can "at least" in theory be done with a pen and paper, you will understand that banning it completely is something beyond any government's ability.

Please use the code tag when posting the kernel logs.

Code:

The kernel log is incomplete, are you sure all PSUs cables are plugged in? also, what is the AC voltage at the input side of your PSU?
1705  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 19M Bitcoins are mined but did you know about the last Bitcoin mined? on: April 05, 2022, 12:20:09 AM
How much impact would mining rewards and halving have on the market then, when about 99% have already been mined and the remaining yet to be mined would not affect the market much.

Mining rewards have little to no impact on the market now, let alone then, it's often thought that selling pressure from miners brings the price down or the opposite, but IMO that is far from correct, the mining rewards are just a fraction of the trading volume, the supply from "elsewhere" is A LOT greater than what miners get as mining rewards, and as more and more coins leave the hands of miners to non-miners, this little impact miners have over the market slowly diminishes until it becomes completely irrelevant.

Quote
This is also a topic with many uncertainties about how motivated miners would be at that time to invest in mining rigs and electricity.

As long as there is any sort of profit to be made "big or small" some miners will still run their gears, in fact, even if running mining gear results in a loss, many people will still mine just to keep the blockchain alive (self-interest for them to be able to send and receive bitcoin), but the bigger issue would be the blockchain's security.

if the incentives to run a mining gear don't exist -- the network becomes more prone to attacks, so bitcoin's security as it stands right now is closely related to its value, the more expensive it gets the more secured it becomes, hopefully, that will change one day when the majority of people start using and protecting bitcoin rather than just mining it for profit.
1706  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: An Idea To Increase the Efficiency of Bitcoin Mining by an Order of Magnitude on: April 04, 2022, 04:02:27 AM
But it's only applicable if you perform solo mining. If you join a pool, you need to consider time for pool to send work and time to send result of the work to the pool.
It should be possible even if with 10s delay, but
1. If you join pool, they will mark some share (result of the work) as invalid share.
2. If you perform solo mining, your block could lose to another pool which mine block <5 second after you did and become stale block.

a 10 seconds latency in BTC mining is very costly since the mining pool won't be paying you money out of their own pocket, most pools will send new work within a few seconds and thus the majority of the shares you submit will be invalid, mining solo with such latency will also increase your stale block size by a large margin, but this idea is still applicable if the cost of setup and operation is a lot lower than mining on planet earth, although I highly doubt that this will be the case.
30% on: April 03, 2022, 03:35:07 AM

1708  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Assuming that Government wake's up and crack down mining across the Globe. on: April 03, 2022, 02:18:04 AM
This is a general misconception regarding bitcoin mining, bitcoin mining can go on pretty smoothly with a block every 10 minutes even if one single old laptop or PC is mining it, so no matter what they do, they can not stop the supply.

BTC has limited supply either way, but if they were to magically stop all miners from mining forever, then BTC will not increase in price, it will go to zero as it will be pretty a useless technology, miners are needed to perform transactions not just to increase the supply.
1709  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 1246 Inquiring for Knowledge and Resources on: April 02, 2022, 04:19:49 AM
Not sure what he means by shady, but as far as resources go, Bitmain and MicroBT do a better job than Canaan, Bitmain has a lot of documents related to fixing, Whatsminer has an official telegram group with active members who respond to all sorts of questions, while resources on the new Avalon gears are pretty impossible to find.

With that in mind, I believe most of the resources of Bitmain are leaked from their private courses or from their distributors and overseas branches, so I think the community is a key factor in this, Canaan community is pretty small compared to its rivals Bitmain and MicroBT, so it's pretty normal to find fewer resources.
1710  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 265 blocks solved! on: April 02, 2022, 02:51:25 AM
Looks like 19,000,000th bitcoin was just mined around 25 minutes ago between height 730,032 and height 730,033, does that seem right? Or am I excluding the mempool blocks?

Let's do some math (maybe not a good idea since it's 4 am here)  Grin

Block 0 to block 210,000 > 10,500,000 coins were miner
Block 0 to block  420,001 > 15,750,000
Block 0 to block  630,002 > 18,375,000

19,000,000 - 18,375,000 = 625,000 BTC, divide by 6.25 btc gives you 100,000 blocks

so 630,002 + 100,000 = block height 730,002 not  730,032, but hey, gain, it's 4 am.
1711  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: April 02, 2022, 01:56:59 AM
I'm not a fan of US "peace and democracy" exports if that's your angle. That doesn't mean that small or large Eastern European countries - or any countries - should be just given to Putin.

The U.S and Russia think alike somehow, they both can just invade any country they want and they both play their "national security" card to justify the invasion, luckily Russia isn't capable (yet) of invading countries on the other side of the planet, also luckily things did not end up well for the last a few U.S invasions, hopefully, this war ends soon and teaches both of these countries (and all the other countries with a history of invasion) to mind their own freaking business.

1712  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Problems with all my Avalon machines on: April 02, 2022, 01:29:46 AM
the machines connect correctly but they do not manage to exceed the mining speed above 2 ths and they disconnect.  They seem to work and try to mine but it looks like an Antpool acceptance issue.  please I appreciate your help.

Why would you use Antpool in the first place? please stop using it, they are stealing your profit.

Point your miners to cksolo pool just to confirm the problem is pool related (the pool requires no registration so it's a great pool to test miners)

Enter the following:

URL:

Code:
stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333

WORKER

Any valid BTC address you own and then add . (dot) and the a miner name for example
Code:
36pYnKeG14arFAxPB1rC6aVyLXv2nx1Uvr.Avalon1

**Use your own BTC address just in case you hit a block.

PASSWORD

Code:
x

And then to check the hashrate on the pool, just use this URL

Code:
https://solo.ckpool.org/users/36pYnKeG14arFAxPB1rC6aVyLXv2nx1Uvr

** Again after users/ is your BTC address which you entered as the worker name, then post your BTC address here so we can see your hashrate, also post the miner logs.

How has the Pool's success been since this last finding?
Thank you

That was the last block the pool has found, but I hope you know that is irrelevant as far as the future is concerned.

I was going to say 30 but sadly the difficulty adjusted a few hours ago, so probably 20 is better, it has less impact over rental prices.

That brings another point which should be explained to all players, voting for hashrate speed should be based on the current status of difficulty not just personal preference, I will make a post later regarding this aspect.

Thanks willi.

Ukraine has never attacked any country, never in its history.

More than 5000 Ukrainian troops were sent to Iraq to help the U.S with its invasion, now unless those troops went there to get a tan (the sunlight in Iraq is pretty strong) -- your statement is false.

If I can fill that with 0.005 BTC then count me in, I can send funds later in the morning if that is okay.
1719  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why 10 min block mining? on: March 30, 2022, 10:24:47 PM
Reducing the block time to make BTC good for buying a cup of coffee won't work, the way the blockchain works makes it pretty crippled in that aspect, of course, this is just a trade-off for the decentralization and security, so bitcoin "as is" is simply not fit for this, it doesn't matter how much you reduce the block time, mining is an exponential distribution process and as o_e_l_e_o explained above nearly 37% of blocks will need more than the meantime.

Another issue you could potentially create by reducing block time intervals would be more empty blocks  -- if the network would find a block every 5 seconds on average every pool will just start mining on top of the previous block without verifying its transactions, dealing with its mempool to remove transactions which were included in the last block will impose a great risk to the pool, so nobody in their right mind would waste time dealing with transactions, just mine the next block, heck, even today, many pools send empty work templates to the miners after they sense a new block, and then sometime later they would send a new block template with the transactions, so if the block intervals were just a few seconds every pool would probably just mine empty blocks.

So this means, you are kind of forced to have minutes long intervals, and in that case, 10 mins or 5 mins doesn't really make a difference for buying coffe.

1720  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: بوتن و البتكوين on: March 30, 2022, 09:10:33 PM
