It makes sense if one set of fans is reversed so the front and rear fans are fighting each other....

Not sure all 4 fans will pass the fan-check if 2 of them were reversed, also if you check this line

Code:
[2021/12/13 23:29:28] INFO: Start mining!
[2021/12/13 23:29:45] WARN: chain[1] - Overheated, chip temp=90

I highly doubt 17 seconds is enough to overheat the hash board, but ya, he should just check to make sure.
1882  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: help with t17 on: December 14, 2021, 09:39:10 PM
Post the complete kernel log using pastebin.com

It seems like your miner is overheating shortly after the mining process starts, which doesn't make sense unless the place is really super hot or the temp sensor is bad, but then all 3 hash boards are reporting the same issue which makes me doubt that it has anything to do with temps, post the complete kernel log first and then we can troubleshoot it one step at a time.
1883  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S19 Stop running randomly on: December 12, 2021, 10:55:50 PM
At this point I tend to believe this has to be a problem with the temp sensor on the hash board, however, given we had a similar issue with the 17 series miners whereby the temp sensor issues were 99% of the time caused by a single bad chip, this could also be the problem with the 19 series.

To be sure I would try a different firmware just to make sure the problem isn't software-related.
1884  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: Dubai OTC دبي on: December 12, 2021, 09:31:24 PM

1885  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Shematic Control Boards Antmainer S9 on: December 12, 2021, 09:02:40 PM
Zeusbtc have this file related to Antminer S9 maintenance > https://www.zeusbtc.com/manuals/repair-guide/Antminer-S9-hash-board-Repair-guide.pdf

I am not sure if it has anything about the control board but do check it out, in case it doesn't, try to contact Zeusbtc and ask for it, they are usually helpful.

1887  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Why use a PPS pool when there are large PPLNS pools? on: December 11, 2021, 10:01:48 AM
Of course he also goes and wastes those merit points to say "Hey someone agrees with me - heck I better throw them 4 merit points ... "

This is not how the merit system works, i merit posts that contribute to a good discussion even if i disgree with them or dislike the person posting them, i would still merit your posts but you do not participate in the merit system so those sMerit points will be wasted.

Quote
Since you don't want to live in the real world, that quite easily justifies the word 'ignorance'.

But you do not have to be rude, wndsnb is stating the same points as you are without being mean or rude to anyone, why is it so difficult for you to be nice?

You run a mining pool and being rude in a mining community is not helping your business at all, which is why i do not think anyone will take your advice related to business seriously.

Also judging by your attitude and how you managed to send away your clients to other pools and ended up being one of the smallest pools in the world despite having started long before most large pools makes you seem like a person who is not capable of giving business advice.

You really need to fix that attitude and stop calling people who disgree with you "ignorant". There is never a good excuse to call people such words.
1888  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S19j Pro - shut down unexpectedly... any idea what happened? on: December 10, 2021, 09:47:09 PM
I wish I could post the entire Miner log in here but when I do its too long...

-Graham

You can use pastebin.com to post the complete kernel log and then just paste the link here.

Generally these kind of issues are PSU related, make sure the AC voltage is 220v to 240v and the PSU has enough space for enough airflow. The kernel log should reveal more details.
1889  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Why use a PPS pool when there are large PPLNS pools? on: December 09, 2021, 02:17:17 PM
Someone is jealous because nobody uses their PPLNS pool and wants to convince people that variance is a good thing.

Not sure why are you forcing your opinion upon us and calling those who disagree with it "ignorant" you need to get off your high horse, this is not good for your health.
1890  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Why use a PPS pool when there are large PPLNS pools? on: December 09, 2021, 08:37:44 AM
Alas, ignorance of the meaning of the word 'variance'.

Ya you are the only person in the world who understands what variance means.

I see comments all the time about how a 'bad' month can't be handled.
Yet they ignore the good months that make it average better ...

Ya imagine having a good month when btc is down 40% in price and a bad month when its up 50% or simply a whole bad epoch when difficulty is down, just because you are narrow minded does not mean everyone has to think like you do.

No thanks i will leave both the ups and down for pool to handle and enjoy stable payouts.

Quote
I guess the real problem is people having no impulse control:
... good month ... go blow all the extra on drugs ...
... bad month ... shit what did I do with all that extra BTC I had ... better move to a higher fee PPS pool
Yup, see one con of using PPLNS is the chance of getting addicted to drugs.
1891  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Why use a PPS pool when there are large PPLNS pools? on: December 09, 2021, 01:32:37 AM
with the current viabtc hashrate, getting 20% less reward than pps in a month would be about one in a million...

10% less would be about 1 in 100.

I am aware of the chances and how low they are assuming your miners are up 24\7, when they are not -- variance can be largely affected by it, i had a few terrible months on slush pools years ago (which i know i probably wasnt going to face for years to come) but when I moved to PPS i can see how it is worth it, i don't care if it is one in a thousand or one in ten, i know any pool is subject to having a terrible day, week or month and I rather not be affected by it given that I only pay an extra of 2%.

But then speaking of fees alone, Binance pool has 2.5% PPS fees for that matter which is only 0.5% higher than viabtc PPLNS, there is also another small PPS pool that has 2% fees (i will try to remember the name later).

The point is some people rather use x pool for small features like a smooth app, smart mining or low payout threshold even at a higher fee, so slightly higher fees to avoid variance no matter big or small is indeed worth it to many people

Quote
Small pool issues are a whole different discussion, I'm only talking about large pools. Although, since difficulty has essentially been flat for the past year, mining on a small pool had less of a disadvantage than usual.

Hashrate migration is a worse issue than difficulty increase, when people move to larger pools variance on small pools increases to a point that it becomes risky to use, the only reason viabtc is this big is because of PPS, eventually pools that offer only PPLNS will likely and sadly fade away.

The mining business is already full of variance and surprises in every aspect of it, mining to a PPS pool reduces that, you can even borrow money against your future payouts, but you can not do that with PPLNS because it does not matter how low the chances are even a large pool can have some bad months.

1892  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Why use a PPS pool when there are large PPLNS pools? on: December 09, 2021, 12:07:54 AM
Taking FPPS out of the equation eliminates the need to discuss transaction fees as they are identical on both PPS+ and PPLNS payment methods, which brings us down to one key point and that is VARIANCE, paying 2% extra in fees while knowing in advance that for the next 2016 blocks I will be getting x amount of BTC is worth it for me, also the fact that both my internet connection and electricity aren't stable 24/7 makes variance even more noticeable and I simply hate variance.

Unlike what Kano thinks, this has nothing to do with business acumen, it all boils down to what the miner actually does with the payout as they get them, if someone hodl their payouts long enough to overcome any variance, then of course why pay more fees? but for someone that utilizes their payouts as they come, I am happy to hand out 2% more fees not to risk having a single month of -20% or anything like that.

And then imagine a pool that dies slowly like Kano.is, think of all the folks who mined for 10 months without hitting a block while paying the power bill, killing their miners and checking the status page every hour, and then they ended leaving to another pool, I am sure if you ask any of them, they would wish they paid 5 times the fees and got paid in PPS, of course, those who can afford to stay long enough will eventually end up earning higher than PPS pools, but that is a big if.

This PPS vs PPLNS is really similar to buying a house with cash upfront or installments, there is no right or wrong about it, it has everything to do with your risk tolerance, and wether you make use of less money today than more money the next month.

1893  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: avalon 1246 won't hash above 79TH. on: December 07, 2021, 12:36:16 AM
Celsius? SOS that's hot.

at 73c the miner will be hot chocolate or bitchocholate for that matter.

OP, did you allow enough time for the miner to tune? I don't know much about the exact model you have but I know some miners needs sometime to tune when you first start them, what was the exact voltage when you checked it?
1894  Economy / Speculation / Re: Summer dip?!, December price outcome? ---> JOIN and guess the price GO! on: December 07, 2021, 12:10:08 AM
I am confused as to the time left
LoyceV will announce the winner when he is awake, guessing he is sleeping by now. Or maybe I am getting it wrong, but I think CET correspond to GMT +1.

oh I thought it was utc

231. $47,777 bitebits
232. $48,999 DdmrDdmr
233. $50,000 JanEmil
234. $51,000 Mbitr
235. $52,000 shahzadafzal

so if that is the case the price point was about 26 minutes ago

maybe 50 943 but I certainly am merely guessing

Maybe Mbitr won.

Let us know loycev

You posted this at 00:26:36 AM CET, which means the winner was already declared when you posted, I checked across all the major exchanges like Binance, Coinbase, and FTX, the opening candle was between $50,700 to $50,850, on Bitstamp it was 50,837$ which is the exchange mentioned in the OP, that means the winner is box 234 ( $50,444.06 - $51,452.93) aka Mbitr.
1895  Economy / Speculation / Re: Summer dip?!, December price outcome? ---> JOIN and guess the price GO! on: December 06, 2021, 10:11:18 PM
I was not able to participate in the guessing competition but I'm excited for you guys. Looking at the predictions, DdmrDdmr is the closest prediction with $48,999. congratulations in advance to whoever will win but the price seemed no significant movement now, so DdmrDdmr great job.

BTC never fails to amaze! a few minutes later and now it seems like JanEmil with 50k prediction is closer to winning against DdmrDdmr, 50 mins to go, anyone within 1-2k range from here can still win.

1896  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: December 05, 2021, 09:10:44 PM
I never use PPS pools, I use that 2% since it is the fee that large PPLNS pools use. I don't know why someone would pay more for a PPS pool when there are PPLNS pools with enough hashrate to act pretty close to a PPS on a weekly or monthly scale.

It will be off-topic to discuss this in depth, but I personally only use PPS pools, and speaking of pools, foundry USA found the second most blocks in the past 7 days, very close to becoming the world's largest mining pool.

Quote
It doesn't look to me like there will be any significant connection between price and difficulty for the foreseeable future. Price would have to get down below the 20K range before major hash started getting turned off. At current difficulty, it costs a 5c power operation only $8432 to mine 1 BTC.

You are right, the price effect isn't instant anyways, some people will just mine at a loss for some time, some like phill will use it to heat their house, heck, a 50% reduction in rewards when the last halving hit didn't cause any instant drop in hashrate, not even in gear prices, gear prices didn't move an inch from where they were last week when bitcoin was at 60k, it takes some time to reflect but it will eventually happen.

Damn, feeling so bad to hear that you've got the disease too, that damn thing will eventually get every single of us  Cry Cry
Hope you're going to feel better pretty soon, if it is only headaches then you're likely safe, and this will be the worse of it. Stay safe, both you and your family!

Thanks bro I appreciate it, ya it's mainly only headaches recently, and the only cure is sleep when it hits me.
1897  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Am I wrong for buying S9's? on: December 05, 2021, 01:01:46 AM
My electricity cost is $0.047 USD kWh and as of now I can buy a S19j Pro 104th for $13,780 ($132.5/TH) or for the same amount get 36 16TH (Braiins os) S9's @ $380 per unit ($23.75/TH). Any insight or help is appreciated. Thank you!

You are not wrong, but you are missing two crucial points that could change the entire game.

1- At $380 it's probably an S9 (as in S9 without I/J) which is anywhere between 5 to 6 six years old that can die at any given moment.
2- With the efficiency of S9 you are more likely to enter the "mining at a loss" phase A LOT sooner than you do with an S19.

You power rate is indeed below average (since the average 3-5 cents of China is no longer valid) but that doesn't mean you can just buy the least effienct gear and expect to make a profit, my advice would be something in the middle, 50w/th range will be good for your power rate, I recommend whatminer M21s / M20s.

1899  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17+ Socket connect failed.... on: December 03, 2021, 10:02:23 PM
The "Socket connect failed: Connection refused" is just a general error and doesn't always tell you what the problem might be, but in most cases and assuming there are no hardware errors -- it means what it says "Connection refused" which is obviously a pool-related problem and some times just a general network issue like "no internet , router is blocking your connection to the pool and what no".

It's always important to fill at least 2 pools in the setting page just in case while you are testing the main pool is down, or something is wrong with your worker details, I personally like to use CKsolo as my backup pool or primary when troubleshooting a miner, it requires no login, accounts or any of that.

URL : stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333
USER: Any valid BTC address
PASS: x

And then to be extra sure, go to the diagnostic page of the miner under the network tab and ping one of the known websites to make sure that your miner has access to the internet, once you do that you almost completely eliminate the network/pool issues so you can focus on the actual potential problem.

What happened with your miner is either you left a leading or trailing space in one of the worker/URL fields or your worker wasn't activated on the pool, the second possibility is an actual hardware damage, which is also pretty normal for all the 17 series, the miner can work at times and fail the next second.
1900  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone with knowledge on Ebang Ebit Miners on: December 03, 2021, 09:29:17 PM
That's bad you bought it refurbished.

According to one of my very reliable sources in China, refurbished miners in China aren't exactly refurbished in a way that most of us think, they simply change everything thing except for the control board and hahsboards (the only things that actually matter), and then I imagine during the process some physical damage can easily happen, which makes buying a refurbished gear a little bit more risky than just buying a used one.
