Devcoin has had more action in 2014 outside its price than all years before. It's far from death and has captured the brightest among us.

+1

I stay with devcoin thru good and hard times.

This coin will play out over the next decade, not the next few weeks.

That's what DEV stands for.... longtime continuous development of things.

Hopefully also artistic things like music, sound, graphics, 3d etc in the future...

ufff .. once again .... marchants don´t want accept mazacoin as payment becouse contantly decreasing price & almost no buy orders ( you sell few milions and you´re at 1 satoshi)

and what is most important? mzc marchant acceptance

And here you go assuming the only reason a merchant would accept Mazacoin would be to dump it to BTC or fiat.  Mazacoin is not designed that way, if it is an official currency of the Lakota then the merchants that accept Mazacoin can use it as payments to other vendors that accept Mazacoin, and/or supplemental payments to employees as allowed by any governmental forces at work on the reserve.  If Maza gets used as an official currency why would any merchant accepting it in the official areas want to immediately dump it into the market?

The thinking behind crypto traders needs to change, it is a paradigm shift away from Fiat, and Maza is a currency in it's own right that shouldn't be tied to bitcoin.

+1

But here is where I come in.

I am just a miner from europe. No connection to lakota indians. Although I certainly would like to help them. I also like money (d'uh)

At the moment I am mining mazacoin fulltime.... I don't even know why. Could turn out to be a complete net loss. But I have a good feeling in the gut.
But ofcourse basically I want to make a small profit in the future.

So my question, how are you going to make mazacoin "tasty" for us outside investors?

If mazacoin wants to build a secure payment network (that works liquidly and has high hashrate) it needs to either

1) be mergemined with BTC
or
2) have a high appeal to international miners (like me)

Miners want to help, but they also need to make a little money doing so.

How does the saying go:

Altruism doesn't exist, sustainability must be made profitable.

Thanks for your explanations, things start to make sense ...

I can only hope that the MZC fork comes sooner rather than later...

PS: yay, I just mined block 86219  Cool

We should see a block every 2 minutes, but with current diff calculations if we get increased hashrate for awhile and diff rises and then the hashrate drops it takes awhile for the diff to drop back down to compensate for the loss of hashrate so you end up with an hour between blocks, and since the diff changes every 4 blocks, you have at least 4 blocks at a higher diff than current hashrate can solve for in a 2 minute window.

I think I am trying to understand....
is this the reason we see such a zigzag curve in the difficulty of mazacoin...

It's like it repeats everyday like clockwork (more or less)

Low difficulty causes too many miners to jump on the train, which in turn causes a large difficulty increase later, which then causes the block creation to get clogged, until the miners start leaving the train again (because they don't like what they see), so the drama can repeat again the moment the difficulty falls to a low level again.

So how exactly can this be solved? At all?
Is it something that will go away automatically the older mazacoin gets?

hm, still a lot to learn...

so mazacoin still has no active blockexplorer online?  Huh

It does. maza.vicenet.eu

Block Height: 85267 Block Time: June 9, 2014, 14:05:44

Block Height: 85268 Block Time: June 9, 2014, 16:02:14

Block Height: 85269 Block Time: June 9, 2014, 17:04:33

Really?

Until they add some diff recalc, the multipools are going to keep screwing up on this. It does popup on CoinWarz as profitable every now and then and any pools that use their API will trigger the switch to it.

Did I understand this correctly?
We see a new block about once every 1-2 hours, which is not what we should see...
we should more see a block every 10 minutes or so?

why is this happening?
Are the diff calculations causing completely irregular block times?
how can this be fixed?

What does this "cold masternode" mean really? Can you have a masternode with 1000drk without even a computer powered on? Or is it just having 1000drk in a cold wallet and a masternode running on a computer?

I'm sorry I'm not good with these things, but I'm curious.

Basically it means you can have a node online with the 1000DRK just for 30 seconds, then you activate a secondary "hot" node with no money in it. After that you can literally power down the first node because in the new implementation the hot and cold node share a signing key.

Very interesting.
And those 30 seconds are basically just the time it takes for the two servers to successfully "shake hands"?
A hot hand shaking a cold hand, and spreading some "warmth".... I like it!  Grin

This whole lead developer title and "Master Coin Maker" if stupid.

Master Coin Maker is like a title Ben Bernanke would have appreciated.

Such a "title" has no place in the cryptoworld.

What we need are just developers (and miners and users ofcourse)

I just wanted to come back to say congratulations to MZC for the wonderful news that AP has finally left the team.

Is this official?

Yes there was a statement from him and tweet by @mazacoin

So who is now the core developper of the code?

"Owl"?

EDIT: thanks for all your suggestions, I was about to ask you about that. :-)

Is merge mining mazacoin even working?
To this day I haven't seen any realworld example of a pool merge-mining mazacoin, so I am not even sure if this was just another promise without real development?

It was an empty promise - it is not, and never was, in the code. IIRC boxxa said that he'd put the auxpow code in, but AP never pulled it into the main tree.

As far as I know, this AP guy is now gone?
So no hurdles anymore?

I had the code staged and was working on a pool for Mazacoin that also would contribute to a Bitcoin pool. I was told by AP there will be no fork and to stop working on the Linux client as that is not going to be updated this year and we will never touch the block chain to enable any new features.

I see, but now that we will have a fork in the future (as far as I know) can't we put merge-mining back on the table?
That would be such a large bonus for mazacoin.

BTW, from this day on, I am mining mazacoin only, 1600 GH/s (mining BTC not profitable enough for me anymore). I will keep on doing so for a month and then do a review.
Am not going to sell MZC below 100 satoshi I can tell you that.

This kind of blockexplorer can't even show the amount of MZC on any given address, therefor it's useless to me.

Good point. I'll change it to abe which is more user friendly

That would be great!!! Thanks in advance

I still think mergemining will attract solid pools (as opposed to profitswitching multipools) and provide a much needed baseline hashrate. It will take some time to attract those pools. We will open a pool for maza when new your new code is available (and tested) - we'd prefer to see it mergemined, but we will put our support behind maza now that development has recommenced. (and, yes, I do mean mergemined with bitcoin in particular, but I'd be open to some other parent chains, or sibling chains)

I still can't seem to be able to mine BTC with this pool.

Until 2-3 days ago, everything was working fine on the EU high diff server,
now no matter what I do it keeps on mining only like 10% of the amount of BTC I was used to.

At the moment I switched to mining MYRH directly, works ok.

I hope BTC mining will work again soon, I will do a check later this week.

What's with the EU bitcoin direct mining ports anyway?

Is it the summer heat?

We had a couple days of bad profits while we worked our way into Bitminter's 40-hour PPLNS.

That said, today we had stellar BTC profits due to good luck at Bitminter.  We will continue to have slightly higher variance on a daily basis than we did with ghash, but overall profits should be higher and on a 'BTC difficulty period' basis, the variance should be hardly noticeable.

Since 18 hours ago I started mining with bitminter directly.
It takes a while before I will have 10 shifts and a little "good luck"... I see... so that's the reason why I recieved no profit at all with multipool the last days... ofcourse it takes a while to work your way in. (40 hours ?)

I'll probably return to multipool.us next week if bitminter works fine.
But since multipool mines with bitminter, I might just as well stay at bitminter.

Not bad, good community.

Just a note to all you miners lurking in the thread. Blisterpool is paying out a whopping 20% bonus for the month of June. It's a p2pool backend with 10% server fee (to ensure script triggers), with the fee plus another 20% of your throughput sent in devcoins to your registered devcoin address.

more info here: http://blisterpool.com

You'll get devcoins as long as you mine on the server, even if you don't get any bitcoins from p2pool, and it's paid out whenever a bitcoin block is found.

If you would normally get 1btc from a p2pool payout, via blisterpool you would get 0.9 btc straight to your bitcoin address, plus 0.3btc worth of devcoins (market rate) to your devcoin address.

Thanks for letting me know.... I will try it later this week.

multipool.us seems to have a lot of problems lately, so I am looking for an alternative anyway.

Huge potential for DVC. It can only go up from here.

Yes and no... but I fear it could go as low as 7 satoshi before we'll see pretty much all devcoin supporters (guys who have been posting here in the last year) buying up devcoins by the tens of millions... (talking my book here obviously...  Grin )

And this will ofcourse finally move the market and start a small mania (other non devcoin people buying in)

Nope, my miners are running fine, but still no "per block estimate" visible.
Well, let's see tommorow.

EDIT: oh, I see that you posted all relevant informations in the news sections of multipool.us

Jun 10 1:28 AM It should be safe for users on East and West to move back from the low difficulty BTC ports to the high difficulty ports. In fact in some cases you will actually get a lower share difficulty by doing this since about 50TH has moved onto the low diff ports on east. We are still working on EU.

Jun 09 12:21 PM BTC estimates may be wildly inaccurate for a few days until we can get a good idea of what the average payout per block is going to be.

Jun 09 10:57 AM We are taking steps to lower the share difficulty being given out to clients while mining BTC. If your miner is getting too high of a difficulty please switch to the low difficulty ports (9999 for multiport, 9332 for direct mining.) Remember that share difficulty on a slower coin like BTC should not, in theory, affect your earnings. Thanks for your patience while we work out any issues.
