2721  Other / Archival / Re: American banks begin to be friends with bitcoin on: October 13, 2021, 01:09:39 PM
The topic title could be changed to 'banks try to get involved in Bitcoin to indirectly regulate it'.

How long will it take before we see the provision of Bitcoin storage and support services to individuals by banks such as the U.S. Bank and Bank of America?
Personally, hopefully never. Storing a decentralized currency with a centralized exchange makes little sense, there are ways to get int Bitcoin investment without actually holding coins, however if you wish to hold physical coins, then be your own bank.
2722  Other / Meta / Re: Actions against spam translators on: October 13, 2021, 01:01:40 PM
This is one of those outlier cases that does not have a perfect solution. Ignoring such users could be a partial solution, as you will not see their crap posts.

Is there an actual way to improve the report information so that global mods do take action? (I'd appreciate the input of GMs here).
Not sure if we are on the same page here, but I remember discussing sometime ago, that the presentation of the report option makes it difficult to write lengthened texts, which may by necessary sometimes. It is probably designed that way so as to reduce the texts the mods have to read, but allowing it more text friendly would encourage more detailed reports where necessary.
2723  Other / Meta / Re: Hit 120 Activity, Still Remain "Member" on: October 12, 2021, 04:47:56 AM
I got the clue, but as you also noted that it would be possible only if the user received initial merit airdrop.
I did not state that. Not all farmers are shit posters, some contribute to the forum constructively and get merits for that, they can now circulate that merit around their several alt accounts .

Again, I think the merit farm will only work for a merit source ad you noted. Someone that has 100+ activities but below 50 merits will find it more difficult to come up with quality posts if created another account. Infact the more account he creates the more shit his posts will become.
Being a merit source would definitely be an added advantage, but it is not the only scenario this would work in.
Also, farms are not always run by the same person, it could be done by a group.
2724  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Stuck between two decision on: October 11, 2021, 11:01:51 PM
Ensure you think hard and long and consider all your options before making a career decision like quitting your job.

How long would it take to master a course in Blockchain development
This would be affected by the pace of the presenter (or on-line tutor in this case) and also your willingness to learn as well.

is it a good option for someone who choose to take up a career in tech?
Knowledge of block chain technology doesn't decide who can take up a career in tech, start from the most basic topics and build on that.
2725  Other / Meta / Re: Hit 120 Activity, Still Remain "Member" on: October 11, 2021, 10:49:46 PM
I am yet to understand what merit farming is and how it is done.
Is it by creating alt accounts? If yes, that is account farming. Also, how will creating more accounts accumulate merits to the existing account?
The way I understand it, a user creates multiple alt accounts and can send merits back and forth between them.
Imagine a scenario where I was on the forum before the launch of the merit system and I got airdropped merits on at least 2 of my accounts, I can create other alt accounts and send merit between them to raise the rank of all of them.

User A, B and C are part of a merit farm;
A sends 10 merits to B who now has 5 smerits that they can send to C, C now has 2.5 smerits to send and continue the cycle. If they are not merits sources and they did not have multiple legendary accounts at the start of the merit system, they would in out in no time.
2726  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ANY STRATEGIC IDEA ON LONG TERM INVESTMENT IS HIGHLY NEEDED on: October 10, 2021, 08:55:49 PM
If you have any strategy on how to pick your top token to invest in, please share here
My strategy is not for tokens, buy for cryptocurrencies in general. When picking an investment, I look for;
• Decentralization, this is one of the key factors of cryptocurrency which determines the freedom it gives to holders,
• Algorithm, the platform the project uses is also very important, some are prone to hacks while others are more secure,
Then there are other factors like liquidity, use case, supply control etc.

This is cliche considering we are in Bitcointalk, but the coin which fits this criteria for me is bitcoin.
2727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if all the money in the world entered the cryptocurrency market? on: October 09, 2021, 12:46:51 AM
Will we see the price of Bitcoin at fantastic prices? i'm talking about +1.000.000$ For 1 BTC
Definitely. If all other currencies and assets owned were all up for an exchange with cryptocurrencies, that would result in an outrageous demand making prices unpredictably high.

Will this be a positive thing for cryptocurrency!
Higher demand would definitely be a positive thing.

Or is there risks and negative things that will happen in this market?
I can not think of any, except that s scenario where all the money in the world wants to enter cryptocurrency is most improbable. For one, a sale is an exchange and there has to be someone on the other end willing to exchange their bitcoins for fiat or some asset class...

Because eventually there is a chance that this will happen
I mean If Crypto-currencies win and become one of the foundations of the new economic system.
Cryptocurrencies is not trying to win, Bitcoin simply wants to give people an option to bypass the need for a third party and most other C
Cryptocurrencies were launched to lace the pockets of the devs.
2728  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Related Question Comes In a Admission Test Exam on: October 07, 2021, 09:09:51 AM
I think A is the correct answer, but I also think C and D will be correct.
I don't know if Bitcoin could be termed as a token, AFAIK, tokens are cryptocurrencies which are built on the platform of some other project, like ERC-20 tokens are tokens which are built on ethereum algorithm.
Coins are those who have their own platform and operate on their algorithm, Bitcoin has it's own algorithm so it does not count as a token.

It could be described as a legal tender, as it has been used as such already.

I believe the options should only have included A and B to make the options more specific.
2729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 12 years today since the first known price was set for BTC on: October 06, 2021, 08:26:51 PM
I'll be honest, I was very much one of these people that overlooked Bitcoin
I think almost everyone was guilty of this at a point.
I for one never got the chance to overlook Bitcoin cause I got in at a much later time and there was already so much information and hype around it that I got hooked in instantly, finding it out through this forum was an extra advantage.

What I usually tell people who say they wish they had invested in Bitcoin earlier and then sell of in 2017 for huge profits is that; if you cannot hold for the next ten years now with the price history, you would have not held when there was little information about it even if you knew about it.
2730  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Coinbase support experience on: October 05, 2021, 09:27:58 PM
I get a message that I have another registered account (which I deleted long time ago) with Binance so I can't verify two accounts. The crypto I have in the account is enough to cause me to lose sleep. I have contacted support and no response
Did you disable your account or request for if to be deleted along with your personal details?
Also, what led you to disable or delete your previous account?
This would help you construct your messages to them in the hope that they do reply. Exchanges can easily hide behind their ToS and choose not to act on an issue. You can also try reaching out on social media, as this can elicit a response.

As a note, do not store funds on non custodian platforms, much less accounts that can make one lose sleep.
2731  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Would it be poor taste to translate existing posts into other languages? on: October 05, 2021, 08:05:29 PM
Do you mean you want to post in German and Arabic boards and then translate then to English or you want to translate your English posts to those languages?

For both cases, you can do that if you're proficient in all the the three languages and can easily translate them.
If you are not proficient in any of them and plan to use Google translate to convert your English post to German or Arabic, that may be in poor taste imo.

There are users on those local boards that translate noteworthy posts on the owners permission, if you make a very helpful posts, you will discover there are native speakers of various languages that would wish to translate it.
2732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Get a $0.20 per gallon discount on petrol when paying with Bitcoin. on: October 05, 2021, 07:29:34 PM
It seems El Salvador strongly promoting Bitcoin and encouraging citizens to use that. The president realized he should take the advantage of Bitcoin trends and improve the economic system. It's a real-time decision for a country to bring the next financial ecosystem. Hope other countries will follow El Salvador.
It is definitely a big step and one that would expose millions of their citizens to Bitcoin and its advantages.
But the government isn't juts promoting Bitcoin, they are promoting their Bitcoin wallet service and encouraging people to use that, if I were to be interested in Bitcoin, I would want to decide which wallet I use based on functionality.

Also, are Bitcoin trends capable of fixing an economic system? It's a speculative asset with growth potential, but improving an ecconomy would take a lot more than accepting Bitcoin as a legal tender.
2733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 12 years today since the first known price was set for BTC on: October 05, 2021, 07:16:17 PM
I am not sure why PayPal did not take the chances of officially accepting the BTC payment right after they made the first transaction ? Why Elon was not aware about this before; it’s really thinkable I guess?
The answer I can think of is that there wasn't enough hype around it at the time. No one (or almost no one) expected a technology made by an anonymous entity to become as popular and valuable as it is now. Many board members and share holders would have seen adopting Bitcoin as a very bad financial decision.

The early adopter stage is usually the thinnest and consists of people who are not necessarily interested for financial gains or obvious potential, but the possibilities that exists.
2734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 12 years today since the first known price was set for BTC on: October 05, 2021, 12:44:14 PM
How times have changed, majority of people at the time had little idea at the time that this technology was going to have such a huge impact.

That was quite an interesting way to determine the price of Bitcoin, and how different the market would be if it was used today. I assume it would be quite difficult to do now as Bitcoin is now worldwide and determine a cost of electricity is not feasible, so there cannot be a definite value.

The variation in price from one day to another is, I figure, due to the change in the "bitcoins generated by my computer(*) over the past 30 days" part, which will change as the 30 day window slides forward another day. Later on, price calculus was modified to include moving averages and the cost of data bandwidth.

Would the my be the computer of there person behind the price speculation?
2735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Future on: October 05, 2021, 12:31:39 PM
Being engrossed in the present, I think a lot have failed and refused to envisaged, or envision the future such as viz ;
It doesn't look like a matter of failing to accept the future, but rather they have not defined what would happen in the future.
Bitcoin, Uber, Amazon, robotics and Airbnb have all been accepted by people to varying degree, however deciding which technology would replace another is an idea and not certain.

Some would argue that the
2736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Get a $0.20 per gallon discount on petrol when paying with Bitcoin. on: October 05, 2021, 12:01:40 PM
The article raises some obvious concerns which is worth discussing. Starting from the launch, many were skeptical of the government's reason to stipulate that people use a particular wallet service as it goes against free will that bitcoin promotes, now the discount policy only applies to people that pay using the designated wallet service. Creating a business and having a whole country patronize you would yield good profits.

The other criticism was about who pays for the discount; the obvious answer would be the government through tax payers money, so the citizens are paying for it.
2737  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: can social network run on decentralization on: October 04, 2021, 08:52:58 PM
Am yet to get the correlation between the network outage and the spiking of Bitcoin on bullish run from $47k to $49k,
Imo, there's no actual correlation between some major social platforms going down and Bitcoin spiking, it's probably just an attempt to draw attention to Bitcoin and use it to get more traffic to their website.

could it be possible if Mark Zuckerberg will truly adhere to suggestive motions to run on a decentralized network on block chain.
Would it solve the issues they are experiencing on their servers?
2738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if stop believing about bitcoin ? on: October 04, 2021, 03:25:33 AM
Bitcoin has no physical presence. What if we just stop believing in bitcoin.
Physical appearance does not correlate to value. A currency like fiat has physical cash notes, but it doesn't have any intrinsic value besides what is placed on it by the nation's economy and banks, who can always print some more.
Physical presence does not also affect believe, no one needs to hold Bitcoin to understand how the network works, but hypothetically speaking, if everyone did forget about Bitcoin, there would be no trade and as such it would have zero liquidity and lose almost all of its value.

I mean every country has the equivalent of gold to their fiat. Bitcoin has no gold or physical value. Can this ever happen ?
Not every county has the equivalent of gold to fiat, and Bitcoin is a decentralized network, it cannot own gold.
What do you mean by physical value? The world is going digital, not everything would be tangible and that's a good thing.
2739  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are the things not to do on the Bitcointalk forum? on: October 03, 2021, 02:38:48 PM
So you arent sure.
I'm pretty sure of what I'm talking about, I said it's subjective to decide what counts as notable press hits and what doesn't. I already pointed out that the user posted one of the article shilling on some other board other than press.

Ive see some accounts who posted like that and take note they are high ranking members. They also sharing links with some paragraphs on their post and simply they dont get viewed as spammers. Well its kinda depend on the user I guess.
Did you report their threads or warn them about doing that?
Posting unsubstantial posts counts as spamming and is against the rules.

Well maybe thats how they wanted to post here? Not human like but not illegal I guess.

Lets just say tomorrow I decided to post article links with such discussion on different boards. So Ive become spammer after that right?

Judgemental is more unethical I guess.
• This forum is meant to share ideas, simply posting snippets of articles with a link to it below counts as spamming, and as I've said is against the forum rules. And doesn't contribute to discussions.
• If you started posting copy lasted articles with links, yes it counts as spamming.

And I'm not even being judgemental, simply gave the user a heads up
2740  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeDogecoins - Unlimited claims NO timer on: October 03, 2021, 02:14:00 PM
such you just post seems a spam and not expected here, we learn ask questions and educated newbies on Cryptocurrency here.
The user can always move the post to the altcoin board using the 'move topic' option at the bottom left of this page.

Op, that's what you should do as this is not the appropriate board for your post, also when posting links you are not sure of, you should ideally include it in code tags, like this;
Code:
freedogecoins.ezyro.com
That way, no one inadvertently clicks on it.
