2761  Economy / Reputation / my ignore list: topic spammers on: April 17, 2018, 09:06:01 AM
warning: this threead is only for me, so i can share my ignore list. You're free to post in this topic, but after i've read your post, i will allmost always remove it!

If you find other spammers that fit my criteria, you are free to post proof in this thread, i'll add the spammer to the ignore list, add the proof to the proof list (giving credit to you) and then remove your post to keep this thread clutter-free!

Eventough the merit system is starting to gain some track, i still see many topics in which an OP asks a (basic) question, and dozens of people flood in giving exactly the same answer. For example :
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3221723 => the op asked a question that didn't even belong on this forum (imho). 4 people had already gave the correct answer when i decided to step in: i jokinly posted a link to "let me google that for you", and clearly indicated the correct answer was given, and asked everybody to stop posting the exact same answer...

after my post, 3!!! more pages were filled with the same (very, very, very) basic answer. It was clear to me that these people either didn't read any other post in the thread, or they didn't care and just copied the response of somebody else and posted in the thread to gain activity.

My list is for everybody who want to ignore these people... They're not adding anything to the discussion, so i see no reason to ever give them any merit... If enough people start ignoring these spammers, they are forced to rethink what they're doing because if they stay ignored by enough high ranking members, they will have less odds of receiving merits, so they cannot rank up...

Rules:
  • i'll only ignore people that gave allmost the exact same answer as has been given in the same thread, people that add something new won't get ignored (at my discretion)
  • i won't ignore people that posted in offtopic. IMHO, offtopic is a spamfest anyways, so everybody browsing offtopic should be prepared for reading repetitive spam
  • the first couple of posts are never ignored... I mean, a question was asked, people should be helping others by answering said question

Everybody is able get off my ignore list, they just have to rethink what they're doing, then contact me with a concrete proposal of how they'll improve their post quality... If it's a reasonable plan, they'll get off the ignore list... Offcourse, people only get one second chance...

Ignorelist
to add these users to your own ignore list, click on "profile" => "ignore user options" and paste the users you want to ignore in your Ignorelist, then click on "Change profile"

Sellingaccs is correct... Here's the code from mocacinno.com:

Code:
<?php
require_once('easybitcoin.php');
$bitcoin = new Bitcoin('[your rcp username here]','[your rcp password here]','[bitcoind\'s ip address here]','8332');
?>

bob123 is also correct, your server can't have a firewall that blocks port 8332, the port has to be correct,.... This is testable by opening a console and entering:
Code:
lsof -i :8332

you can also try to open a telnet session from the host running the script to the host running the daemon (preferably the same host, since IIRC, json-rpc queries are sent in plain text)
Code:
telnet localhost 8332

oh, by the way, getinfo is depreciated.... i haven't updated my node yet, so i don't know if it's even still available...

Code:

Just my 2 satoshi: don't do it...
2764  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transactions accelerators for BTC on: April 10, 2018, 11:31:11 AM
I think even a 0 fee tx will get confirmed in a reasonable timeframe at this moment.

I don't think a miner would include a transaction with zero fee, simply due to the fact that they would rather push the TX fees higher (to at least get any fee),
instead of including a transaction they don't earn anything from.

And additionally, if i am not mistaken (feel free to correct me), 0-fee transaction won't get relayed by the majority of nodes.

That's right to a certain degree... Sure, some nodes won't relay 0 fee tx's, and some miners won't include them in the blocks they're working on, but you only need 1 miner that doesn't care to get into the block he/she is trying to solve. A while ago I've actually seen somebody proving that there are still sufficient miners that don't avoid 0 fee tx's by broadcasting one, and it did get confirmed after a couple of hours.... Sure, you'll need some luck, but it's certainly not impossible at this moment.
2765  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transactions accelerators for BTC on: April 09, 2018, 07:31:25 PM

I had used all of this sites to accelerate my transaction and I don't know clearly what is scam and what is no.
But using this services helped me with very low fee. I agree with you that, it could be useless now. But when euphoria will get started, it will able to support you.
Sorry to burst your bubble, even if the Bitcoin mempool gets clogged today none of those links will be of help asides viabtc accelerator. Last time we were in such situation, there were all sorts of transaction accelerator services claiming to help for a fee and all turned out to be shady. Even viabtc accelerator that is legit, it was difficult for people to get the transaction on board as you needed to be among the first 100 every hour.

Maybe you are right  Undecided, but I am sure that it is working now.

Like TryNinja an LoyceV already said repeatedly: there is no need for an accelerator at this moment. I created a tx with a fee of 0.6 sat/byte yesterday, and it got included in the next block...

It's like that old joke of the guy selling powder to keep the crocodiles away: the absence of crocodiles does not proof the effectiveness of the powder (I live in the EU, there are no crocodiles here).

In other words: when the blocks aren't full, even a fake service looks legit... I think even a 0 fee tx will get confirmed in a reasonable timeframe at this moment.
2766  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin Quiz Merit Reward on: April 05, 2018, 05:51:46 AM
It can take 1.7 billion attempts to unlock a new bitcoin.

?  Not true at all.  Modern hardware can hash that in a second.  The average bitcoin takes 10 minutes.
Yes it is. This is already proven In somewhere where bitcoins are banned by thier government due to that they get a lot of bitcoins. I won't say the place where it is. Waiting for some answers.

I saw this post last night while i was browsing the forum on my mobile phone, and i saved because i just had to reply to it... I do not mean to derail your thread, i have no problems with what you're doing (in fact, i kind of like the initiative), but i really can't let big technical errors slide without correcting them.

The formula to calculate the AVERAGE profit is:
24 / (D * 2^32 / (H * 10^6) / 60 / 60) * C = BTC/day
where
D = Difficulty
H = MHash/s
C = Reward (currently 12.5 BTC)
(i didn't invent this formula, i saved it from somebody on this forum a long time ago, but i cannot remember who it was).

You are claiming that it takes 1,700,000,000 "attempts" to "unlock" a new bitcoin... Since the current block reward is 12.5 BTC, you claim you'd need an average of 1,700,000,000 * 12.5 = 21,250,000,000 hashes to find a block header whose sha256d hash is under the current target.
Since the difficulty gets adjusted so, on average, 1 block gets solved every 10 minutes, the hashrate per second would be: 21,250,000,000/600 = 35,416,667 hashes/second =~ 36 Mh/s
This means that your claim can be reduced to saying that if somebody was running a machine at 36 Mh/s, he'd have controll over the complete network's hashrate and find, on average, 6 blocks/hour = 144 blocks/day...
144 blocks = 144*12.5 BTC = 1800 BTC

Revese proof that a hashrate of 36Mh is the correct assumption:
36,000,000 h/s*600s = 21,600,000,000hashes
21,600,000,000 hashes / 12.5 BTC = 1,728,000,000 hashes/BTC
1,728,000,000 hashes/BTC = 1.7 billion hashes (attempts) to "unlock" one bitcoin

Now... Let's look at the reality and plug this hashrate in the formula above:
24 / (3,511,060,552,899*2^32/(36*10^6)/60/60)*12.5 =
24/ 116,357,177,847 * 12.5 = 0.000000002578 BTC/day

So, VOD was right saying that is is untrue to claim that it takes 1.7 billion attempts to unlock a new bitcoin
2767  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Finding scammers on: April 04, 2018, 07:30:50 AM
There are so many ways of hiding the destination of the scammers coins that it is virtually impossible to trace it. A lot of sites on the internet will allow you to register without KYC/AML requirements and you can push those coins through these services. They also allow you to change the sender address, to withdraw from their services and some even mix your coins.

A lot of these sites goes down and then resurface under a new domain, so you cannot trace any logs, because they are destroyed or not even logged by these sites. A lot of people open multiple accounts, which makes this even more difficult to follow.

False. This may have been the case back in the Silk Road days but Bitcoin can definitely be traced now. This is why many deep web markets have switched over to Monero.

If you ONLY deal from bitcoin to bitcoin it is possible to remain anonymous... the problem is that most people, at some point, buy bitcoin with fiat. If the government/someone really wanted to track down a transaction, they can do so even through bitcoin mixers and whatnot.

Wow, so if that is true... Why are we not seeing government agencies arresting all the people who bought drugs on Silkroad or why are most of the money still untraceable that were hacked on the many exchanges that was exploited over the years?

Why did they not arrest the owner of the biggest Bitcoin mixer service that closed down a while ago? < Bitmixer.io >  Huh

Bitcoin is for the most part anonymous, if you use it correctly and that is why government agencies are so against it. You can use other Alt coins like Monero and ZCash and Dash, but a lot of those coins are sold for Bitcoin in the end.

I think there is a fine line between what a high-level, over-funded governement agency like the NSA, the NKVD or the mossad *could potentially* do, and what they *will* do...
It's not a tale of what's technically possible, but about which level of paranoid you are, and about the odds of being the victim of a (mostly) 3 letter agency.

For example, take this article from 2014, written after a journalist dug into snowden's documents: https://www.engadget.com/2014/05/16/nsa-bugged-cisco-routers/
Combine the fact that a gov agency *could* bug the routers at your datacenter, they *could* have backdoors in the drivers on your servers, they *could* have bugs in your house, they *could* have installed spyware on your pc, they *could* have planted 50% of the current network's nodes (including the one on the darknet), they *could* be running the marjority of the mixers themselfs, they *could* have written algorithms running on big supercomputers having loaded all kind of blockchains in order to find links, they *could* have penetrated the dev groups of many opensource security tools to install backdoors, they *could* analyse all data from all ISPs and datacenters of the US and the EU if they use the proper legal channels,....

However, you should ask yourself "am i interesting enough for them to go trough all this effort in order to reveil my identity".

I truely believe that if they really, really, really wanted to find the person behind, for example, bitmixer.io, they could *probably* do this... However, the cost would probably be enormous... It would probably take them thousands of manhours, external contractors, bugging hardware, illegally entering houses, asking for searchwarrants, cooperating with or forcing other governements to allow access to certain data,....
In the end, the cost vs the outcome would probably not be in balance.

I also think that if you want privacy, and you use a combination of at least 3 anonimizing methods over tor and/or VPN, the odds of a governement agency deciding it's worth their effort to unmask you are really low, especially if you're not doing anything wrong to begin with. Personally, i sometimes use 1 mixing service... Even if it would eventually turn out this service is owned by the governement, i wouldn't be worried anyways... Mixing my coins is just a way to make sure nobody knows how much BTC i own (hint: not a lot)

BTW: a last remark: the way i understand it, bitcoin was never meant to be 100% anonymous to begin with, Satoshi left it up to the user to make sure he used bitcoin in a way that improved his/her privacy.... Satoshi actually wrote this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=8.msg34#msg34

If you do this, you'll be bloating the utxo set... The outputs you create can never be spent so they'll be in each node's utxo set forever...

An alternative is using op_return to avoid utxo bloating: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/OP_RETURN

So are possible have 2 cgminers running  on one raspberry pi ? Huh Huh Huh
Anyone ....

I did run a geccoscience Compaq, 2 u2's and a gc3355 in scrypt mode from a single driver in the past... So it's defenately possible... If I remember correctly, I just compiled cgminer for each device individually and ran them separately, but I'm not completely sure anymore... The way I see it, you already bought the hardware, so there is no harm in trying anyways, just compile cgminer and try if you get it to work..

Good luck
2770  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How does my wallet work/sync? on: April 03, 2018, 07:48:32 AM
Hi everyone. I hate to say it but im a newbie with regards to crypto wallets. I found this to be one of the best informative forums online so decided to register and drop a msg. So i've installed my bitcoin wallet. (bread wallet) to be precise and cant figure out how the satoshis or bitcoin are projected or receieved onto the wallet via the unique address. So in the case of mining for example.. Do they automaically sync into the wallet via the address when you  complete each task/mine etc or do you have to wait for a certain amount to build up before you can withdraw them to the wallet?. Ive done a few tasks here and there to test it out however when the wallet app syncs it still shows a 0.00 amount. Im entering the correct address.  Am i doing something wrong?. I need help with this. Hope i managed to explain this correctly. Cheers.

Lots of questions you got there... I'll try to answer some of them, and maybe reply to other posters as well... Don't hesistate to repeat any question i have missed Smiley

1) you're asking about the very basics of bitcoin when you're asking how wallets and addresses work... You should probably try to read satoshi's whitepaper, or visit the bitcoin wiki... But basically, a wallet keeps track of your private keys, then parses all new blocks for transactions that fund your address. If a transaction is found that funds an address that is controlled by your wallet, the output value is added to your total. When you "pay" somebody else, you use one or more of these unspent outputs as input for a new transaction, your wallet signs this new transaction using your private key, and then broadcasts it to the network.... This is only a very, very, very simplistic representation of what's happening... If you want to know more, read the whitepaper or the wiki!

2) mining: same thing as the previous question... This is one of the core concepts of bitcoin and very hard to explain in a simple post. The whitepaper or the wiki have many, many pages dedicated to mining... But very simple: solo mining is allmost impossible at current difficulty... If you poolmine, you'll have to reach a certain withdrawal threshold. Once again, i'm not going to explain how mining works exactly...

3) About your 0.00 balance: if you don't mind losing a little bit of privacy, you could potentially post your address in this thread, so we can have a look

4) i never used breadwallet, but since it's an SPV wallet, it shouldn't take a long time to sync... You're not downloading and verifying all blocks, only the block headers...

I hate to repeat the same answer that has been given 4 times before, but i have a nice little link regarding FUD you'll like, more of a teaching tool really Wink

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=FUD

I don't mean to be rude, but you're asking for a defenition of a word that is used all around the globe, it's been used (amongst others) for microsoft scare tactics, so please don't litter the forum with these questions... They have very little to do with bitcoin, so they certainly don't belong in the bitcoin discussion subforum.

2772  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is there any way to earn very little amount of bitcoin daily or even weekly?? on: March 30, 2018, 11:12:24 AM
A lot of people are advising you to start faucetting, however, i'd strongly advise against this.
I haven't touched faucets in a very long time, but after googling for about 2 minutes, i can conclude that the average claim is less than 100 sat... Even if you use a semi-automatic script, i would find it very supprising if you were able to claim more than 60 times/hour, making your average income about 6000 sat/hour...
That's about 50 dollarcents for an hour of clicking and solving captcha's.

I don't know where you're from, but in my country, the minimum wage is something like 7 or 8 euro's/hour... If you work at McDonalds, you'll be able to buy 14-16 times as much BTC with your wage compared to the amount you get by faucetting.

So, if you want my advice on how to get small amounts of BTC on a daily basis: if you don't have very specific online skills, you're probably better off getting an IRL job, and convert a couple of bucks from your wage in BTC on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, then keep this BTC for potential future price rises.
2773  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Solutions to get rid of cartels on: March 27, 2018, 08:33:07 AM
I'm kind of new to crypto, but i have a question.

I know that mining cartels are a huge problem, so much so that regular people can't mine anymore.

I was wondering why can't they introduce some kind of limit of how much work one node can do per hour? Wouldn't that massively aid the problem?

I'm no programmer, so I'd really appreciate hearing thoughts about what solutions people are coming up with to solve this problem. Is it unsolvable??

Nobody the network doesn't know how much work one miner or a pool of miners does...(obviously, the pool can make a more or less accurate estimation about the work done by it's members because they allow people to submit shares at a much lower difficulty to estimate their hashrate). This is information that isn't broadcasted to the network. Only when a miner finds a block whose sha256d hash of the header is under the current target, it is broadcasted.
Given a certain difficulty, the amount of hashrate a miner (or pool) has just determines the odds of him finding a valid block header.
The network's hashrate you see in (for example) bitcoin core's information is just an estimation based on the difficulty and the number of blocks found during the last 24? hours.

In other words: there is no way to limit the amount of work... A person with a single S9 can have a lucky streak and find 3 or 4 blocks in a year, while a person with 100 S9's can have a dry spell and doesn't find a block at all during a year...

Blocks can be broadcasted using different nodes, so if a pool wants to hide their identity, they can use a new coinbase address for every block, don't add identifying information to the blocks they're solving and use a new node for every block they broadcast. This way nobody will be able to tie a block to a pool, and nobody will be able to estimate the pool's hashrate.

EDIT: the text in green was added after i suddenly realised the OP was talking about pool mining, and the pool operators will have a rather good estimation about their user's hashrate... They just don't have to share this information with anybody else if they don't want to...
2774  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What do you guys think of ice rock mining on: March 27, 2018, 06:48:13 AM
IMHO (based on several years of experience), there are 2 types of cloudmining companies:
  • 1) Outright ponzi's or scams... It looks like about 99% of the cloudmining companies fall into this category
  • 2) Companies that sell 100% of their risk for a small cut of the profits

For me, neither options sounds appealing... Sure, if a company is a ponzi and you're an early investor, you'll ROI, but you'll be aiding in stealing funds from the late investors.
If you're certain a company is legit, and they're just selling 100% of their risk for a small cut of the profits, it *might* look like a good idear for somebody to invest, especially if they think the market is going to improve. In this case, it's an honest form of gambling... It's not for me, but whatever floats your boat... Just remember that if it was more profitable/stable for a company to mine with their hardware for themselfs, they would do this instead of selling cloudmining shares...
A cloudmining company is a commercial entity... They want to make money, as much as possible. If they're selling cloudmining contracts, this means that selling these contracts will give them better odds at making money than mining themselfs... So they're selling the risk of plummeting prices, failing hardware or rising difficulty to their investors for a small piece of the income... They'll always make sure they get their money, even if it means you lose your investment (that is: if the cloudmining company is withing the 1% honest cloudmining companies)

In this case, i'm not sure if icerockmining is legit to start with... An ICO is a red flag for me, as is the rather unrealistic profit calculation and the affiliate program they seem to run (i found links containing an affiliate code using google). I would dig into their whois information if i had some spare time...
2775  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Signing a message with a private key on: March 27, 2018, 05:45:43 AM
Thanks for all the replies. Smiley

So if i send you some bitcoin and i sign a message.... like..."hello from Irukandji". Only the receiver will be able to see it?  And will it remain somewhere for ever or be deleted?

starmyc already answered the first part of your question: he's correct, signing is not equal to encrypting.
As for the second part of your question: a signed message is just a piece of ascii text, it isn't automatically stored on the blockchain. Usually, you send a signed message to somebody to proof you own the private key to a certain (staked) address. The message will exist as long as you and the receiver don't delete said message from your sent messages/inbox (or whatever other way you used to send the signed message).

You CAN include some text in a transaction using op_return, but this is rather technical, you'd have to craft a transaction in a "non-standard" way in order to do this. (with non-standard, i mean that if you use a standard wallet like core or electrum in a standard-gui way, there won't be an option available afaik)
here's a funny website to look at op_return's in some of the latest transactions: http://coinsecrets.org/
2776  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I messed up with litecoin, coins are missing.. or gone forever? on: March 23, 2018, 06:55:22 PM
So this what happened:

Asked my friend to send me 1 LTC .. gave him an address, but i was bit on drunk and instead giving him my receiving address, i gave him my sending address..

I use Litecoin core wallet

So my question is, are these coins gone now.. or i can get these back somehow..

Sorry for posting this to bitcoin forum and asking advice for litecoins, but this is only decent crypto forum out there.

Thanks in advance.

Sending address? Could you tell me where you got the address you gave to your friend? Technically, it's all about unspent outputs that fund an address, so the 'sending' address should be the same as a 'receiving' addres. As long as you have the private key to sign a transaction to spend this output, all should be OK, disregarding the terminology you are using....
2777  Other / Meta / visualise trustlists on: March 22, 2018, 10:58:06 AM
Just a quick meta script i wrote and wanted so share just in case somebody else ever needs it... It's a script that runs on my local PC, so i didn't make the script safe, readable, reusable or adaptable... It's just a quick-and-dirty script to run on a private machine.

Demo of my own trustlist, 2 levels deep

Why did i write the script? I'm tracking an althoarder who uses an army of alts to bump his own threads, self-vouch, discredit competitors, backstab, give himself positive trust,... while at the same time preaching against everything he's actually doing himself. This dude made a huge effort not to post any identifyable information ever, but he messed up by putting a lot of "untrustable" users in his trustlist (alts), giving +ve to alts, giving -ve to "enemies", removing "enemies" from his trustlist... So i needed a tool to visualise a trust network... Since it didn't existed, i wrote one myself

In order to use this one, you'll need
  • A mysql database
  • A pc/server running python 2.7
  • R

I'm going to skip some of the most scripts (just do it yourself), i'll just provide a little walktrough and focus on the most difficult script
  • download the latest trust dump (https://www.bitcointalk.org/trust.txt.xz)
  • parse the textfile, import the dump into a mysql table...*  the truster goes into "username", the person being trusted in "trustee" and if a person is actually removed from somebody's trustlist (by adding ~{username}), the relation_positive = 0
  • run the script **
  • open r
  • source("path_output_pythonscript/trustlistnetwork.r")
  • my_plot.png will be written to c:\tmp

*
Code:
+-------------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+
| Field             | Type         | Null | Key | Default | Extra          |
+-------------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+
| id                | int(6)       | NO   | PRI | NULL    | auto_increment |
| username          | varchar(128) | YES  | MUL | NULL    |                |
| relation_positive | int(1)       | YES  | MUL | NULL    |                |
| trustee           | varchar(128) | YES  | MUL | NULL    |                |
+-------------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+

**
bitcointalk is not allowing me to post the script... Cloudflare again... you can find the script here: https://www.mocacinno.com/scripts/trustlistnetwork.txt

EDIT: I release this script as an open source script, feel free to download it, adapt it, share it with others... As long as everybody understands that the script waswritten for private use on a private computer, and that i take no responsability for anything that might happen if you run this script Smiley

i have sent 0.0315 btc to 3MCvfVW1SRuX26G7JaL225ZNabZ6xxAbVK
You can see it in Tx id
3MCvfVW1SRuX26G7JaL225ZNabZ6xxAbVK 0.03158333 BTC

I have sent them from huobi exchange and receiver of this 0.0315 btc want to see my btc adress in txid but in that 16 btc adresses of this txid no my deposit adress on Huobi exchange.
What btc adress i must use  if i want it to appear in txid senders or i cant do that and receiver never know senders adress and they want from me unreal thing?

It's very hard to understand your question... However, i seem to distill the following question from your post:

I use the huobi exchange, made a deposit address, deposited BTC... I then used my exchange wallet to fund somebody else's wallet (in other words: i used my exchange wallet to pay a bill). This other person (the receiver) is now asking to proof i was the one funding his address by proving i own the address whose unspent output was used to create the funding transaction that payed him/her.

IF i was correct at guessing your question: Looking at that txid i can only conclude this is impossible. This exchange seems to be using a hot wallet, and seems to be combining withdrawals into one big transaction (potentially to save on fees, or to protect their user's privacy). Since they are using a hot wallet, in most cases there will be no link between your deposit address and the sending addresses seen in your transaction....
I'm only making an educated guess tough... I have never used the huobi exchange, but i think i'm more or less correct with my assessement.

In hindsight: never use an exchange or online wallet to store your funds or make payments. If you're not the only one in controll of your private keys, you're not the only one in controll of your funds. If the exchange goes bancrupt, gets hacked, turns scam,... You stand to lose EVERYTHING... And since you don't own any private keys (nor have access to them), it's impossible to prove anything at this point. Not to make you feel bad, but the person you payed is asking a legitimate question that could easily have been answered if you were using a real wallet. In this case, you would have been able to sign a message with one of the addresses and proof without a shadow of doubt you were the owner of the unspent outputs used to pay the bill.... But that's all hindsight now, learn from the experience...

Your best bet would be to foreward this question to the huobi customer support and hope that they'll help you by signing a message for one of the addresses shown in that transaction.
2779  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Finding scammers on: March 21, 2018, 09:13:14 AM
Is there anyway to track scammers who scammed bitcoins and ethereum? Google search for public addresses don't find a thing.

Is there any tool where i can input addresses and it analyses it? I know there is block explorers but is there anything better?

you can use walletexplorer to link addresses to wallets
https://www.walletexplorer.com/

IIRC, these guys also have commercial products that dig deeper into the data..

If i'm not mistaking, this tool works by tracking when unspent outputs that funded different addresses are combined as input for a new transaction. However, if your attacker is smart enough, or used a mixer (or equivalent), this tool won't work... I don't think there are tools that are able to track attackers that actually know what they're doing, and cover their tracks...
2780  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Possible way to accept payment without installing Bitcoin Daemon on: March 20, 2018, 06:54:15 AM
I just wanted to chime in on this discussion... There are several good alternatives to installing a bitcoin daemon:
  • Install electrum as a daemon: since it's an spv hd client, it doesn't need to sync all blocks... It's actually pretty easy to setup, you can even just import an xpub so no xprv ever touches your online machine
  • Pre-generate x private keys => public keys => addresses on an offline machine and upload the addresses to your server. This is pretty unsafe tough, since you'd have to replenish this pool all the time before it runs out, and a hacker could potentially insert his own addresses in your database if your code has bugs.
  • generate an HD wallet on your (offline) desktop, export the xpub, upload the xpub to your server, derive addresses from this xpub
  • use a "real" payment processor like bitpay
  • use an online wallet that offers an API... Altough i don't like the idear of using online wallets myself...
