Looks like they stripped the digital dollar from the coronavirus bill but it's being reintroduced as standalone legislation...

Yeah, they were going to send everyones stimilus money to these wallets but now it is starting to look like a way so to have them register for a Fedaccount so they can tax it to nothing. Roll Eyes

What are the odds they'll allow the Fedaccount to send/receive money from crypto exchanges? I'm guessing slim to none. Cheesy

Nobody's working, stocks are up 6-8%.

Makes no sense.

I'm still working. You're welcome.

...compensating losses in the form of “unlimited” money printing is causing alarm bells to ring for some.

Commenting on the Federal Reserve’s liquidity drive, Wall Street veteran Caitlin Long argued that “the last vestige of capitalism died in the U.S.”

“Fed's monetization US debt is now unlimited,” she tweeted on Monday.

On Feb. 25, Alipay published a patent detailing “a method and device for controlling digital currency accounts.”

The regulator will provide a control device installed at the operating agency, with which supervisors can restrict suspected accounts within predefined rules. This will allow the supervisors to circumvent the need to go through the operator, allowing immediate restriction.

Restrictions that can be applied include blocking one or more account operating authorities, prohibiting currency flows into and/or out of the target account, and freezing all funds held in the account.

There's no horror here: All those dollars should be exchanged for valuable bitcoins. With Bitcoin inflating at 12.5 btc every ten minutes I'm sure a stable price will be reached.

Just makes the exit strategy from btc to fiat that much easier. Never exit.

There are many who argue that Bitcoin cannot be a store-of-value based on its whipsaw volatility but valuable insight can be drawn from gold’s price action during the 2008 financial crisis.

Gold certainly doesn’t look like a safe haven after a 24% plunge in less than 2 months, even more worrisome is the fact that the S&P 500 remained flat during that period. Therefore, is it really fair to analyze any correlation over such a short period? Does that sharp movement in price invalidate gold’s resilience during market uncertainties?

Where did you find this image?
Can I have the link.
Google reverse-image-search: it's from http://sa-news.com

edit: reading that site clears up my uncertainty about how Africa will handle corona. They won't. At all.

Reading that site it's obvious it's a SA version of Stormfront or similar. I doubt it would be useful to draw any practical conclusions from anything on that site.
This is a good resource, though it doesn't list sa-news...

On my way back home, wife denied boarding to Canada despite marriage certificate and all visa documents. Booked another flight for her to her country in short order. Boarding at the same time at neighboring gates. Just as she steps through the gate to board her plane, I receive information that they've made a mistake and she's now allowed under the family exception.
That's what I was trying to fucking tell you at the desk you imbecile!
No amount of protest can bring her back to the gate from the plane. I watch our planes depart in different directions. Some pure bullshit today. WTF

Very sorry to read that Icygreen. I hope you and your wife can be reunited as soon as possible.

No doordash though.
295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum in 5 years on: March 18, 2020, 04:47:20 PM
Imagine if ETH would at least rise to $5000 in the next 5 years, that would be awesome, we call that easy money for those who believe.

With that, we can retire anytime we want.

I just cant imagine why would ETH rise to $5000. It is has no max supply, so its amount infinitely. Something that is infinitely cant gain value by itself. Take for example gold or bitcoin. With each day it becomes more rare, hard to find or mine. That is why there is believe that its price will go up. Speaking about ETH - it has lots of competitors. Its technology is no longer unique and ETH is not a monopolist on the market. The only reason in can raise - correction in price because of Bitcoins price growth.

Please read more about ETH. There is no fixed cap on ETH true, but that's only a part of the story. Long term it is deflationary, just like BTC, but the mechanism that determines this is the amount that gets created over time becomes a smaller and smaller percentage of the whole until the natural loss of ETH counteracts the creation. This whole talking point about ETH being an unlimited tap of supply is way overblown and simply not true in a practical sense.

https://sharylattkisson.com/2020/03/new-the-first-59-u-s-coronavirus-deaths-by-state-and-age/

This thing is almost exclusively taking out very sick very old people. Most of these people would have probably died this year or next anyway.

Ill bet when this is over the global death rate will not be any higher than normal.

People talk about health systems being overloaded but this thing is just freeing up beds by taking out people who would be using hospital beds a lot in the coming year.

Covbull-19 is not to be feared. Asia has basically beaten it in a matter of weeks with about 5k total death.

Bitcoin getting stronger every day, it never panics.

What's happening here locally is the emergency rooms are filled up with people who have questionable coughs, while people who are actually in dire need are being sent home because there are no beds. I disagree with an easy dismissal of this event. It's a mess.

Also what's happening in the US, at least the 'merica portions of it...

Some dealers said an unusually high proportion of sales have been to first-time gun buyers.

“We attribute it mainly to the virus scare,” said Hyatt, whose gun store has seen sales increase 30% to 40% percent since late February. The presidential election and stock market fluctuations have also been driving business, he said, and the store is now selling more than 300 firearms a week.

“People have a little lack of confidence that if something big and bad happens, that 9-1-1 might not work. We saw it with Katrina,” Hyatt said, referring to the breakdown in emergency response after the 2005 hurricane on the Gulf Coast. “People haven’t forgotten that a disaster happened, and the government didn’t come.”
