281  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Coming next week-- the world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: June 13, 2012, 04:04:48 PM
So is this real or not?
In 4-6 weeks, same as the magazine. Grin

Seriously, I have a theory: I'll bet MNW was pissed at the slow development cycle (perhaps even so with the magazine), and decided to publicly announce it in order to kick everyone into high gear. Protip: Doing that makes mistakes more likely, and won't help quality control and "making a perfect product". As you should have learned already.

I think the recent bitcoincard meeting in Vienna was the main reason to rush his announcement. And look at all his negative/FUD comments about the bitcoincard - if he just wanted to push his paypal device, there would be no need to behave that way.
282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Looking for 2-3 people to help me with a blitz website/service setup on: June 13, 2012, 03:00:20 PM
Something like https://booster.io/?

Hmmm, less of the "micro-payments", more of the "pledge". But yea, "kickstarter-esque"...

So maybe the fastest route would be to convince them to tweak their site a little bit in your direction, that is as long as you don't indent to develop a business from it Wink

WOW, after waiting almost a full year (without bitcoinstarter delivering anything) someone else finally made it:

I would like to point out that it's been more than a week.

Do your calendar and clock require a repeater and other clock in a 150 meter radius in order to function?
I guess it needs to be recharged at least once a day...
286  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Bitcoin Savings and Trust on: June 11, 2012, 10:32:13 PM
I'm just curious why in the world anyone would go to their investment and say, "Hey, I think you are giving me too great of a return on my money. You should stop that."

Seriously?

Because it can be good business.

Last month I lowered the interest rate I was charging on a perpetual loan.  Amongst other things, my expected payoff over the life of that client is now much higher.

Ok, I have a deal for you: Just withdraw all your capital from BTCS&T and I'll pay you 1%/week if that makes you feel better.

Too late, I'm already paying him 2%.
It seems that someone prefers a lower rate, thus 1% wins  Wink
287  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Coming next week-- the world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: June 11, 2012, 03:31:16 PM
But that is the problem, I've actual photos of Bitcoincards.  Granted, still photos can be faked; but I have nothing at all from you concerning the Ellet.
Fair enough. Come back when there are photos. Until then, (advice to others) do not embarrass yourselves again with calling things fake just because of who is developing them. When this comes out and I move on to my next project, is the point going to get across then that I'm serious about what I do and all you need do is wait?
http://blog.bitinstant.com/blog/2012/6/8/bitcoincard-in-vienna-day-1-coffee-missing-atms-and-some-tes.html
But of course, this is a conspiracy of Gavin, Charly, Erik, Armir and all other bitcoin celebrities against you.
And I am pretty sure that Bitcoin magazine in those pictures is also faked, or at least an unlicensed reprint Wink

288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Coming next week-- the world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: June 11, 2012, 02:49:45 PM
...
What would happen to your plans for the Ellet should the claims regarding the Bitcoincard turn out to be true?

Hence the rushed up announcement on his part... The Bitcoincard workshop was coming and he needed to build some hype for his own vapourware as a way to try and fade out the hype for the Bitcoincard vapourware.
I wasn't going to say anything, but after seeing him attacking BitcoinCard, while doing exactly the same thing with this Ellet, didn't felt quite right to me.

But the big difference is that this bitcoincard can be seen on images and videos, while this mnw vaporware seems to exists only mnws imagination. And that seems to make it necessary for mnw to constantly spreading FUD in the bitcoincard thread.

Missing option: in claim order
290  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Coming next week-- the world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: June 07, 2012, 02:39:00 PM
I generally try not to post negative commentary, but I think there's an obvious point being missed.  Even assuming this device is made perfectly, no bugs, ships on time, performs better then expected, is cheaper than projected, and looks cooler then cool... It's still going to fail.

Purchasing a separate device to use for payments (in addition to smartphone, WALLET/PURSE, ipad/tablet, etc...) is a D.O.A. concept for all but a few of us nerds.

Why would I carry around ANOTHER single-purpose device?  The money/time/energy would be better spent integrating this concept into NFC/Bluetooth smartphone transactions.  See how many smartphones around the world are already being used for micropayments.  If you could one-up them by adding paypal, dwolla, btc, etc, you might have a viable business model.

I do think its a cool idea in a geek-cred sort of way - but global adoption? C'mon.  Even if BTC became the dominant worldwide currency, you could still make a P.O.S. purchase with a QR code of your BTC address using your smartphone; or some other method using existing tech.

'Who is picking up the check for lunch today?'
'Not me, I forgot to charge my wallet!'

Sorry, but -1.
Exactly this.
And seeing with how much fear MWN started to attack this bitcoincard thing (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=78171.0), I cannot resist feeling that this bitcoin card is indeed the future.
291  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 6.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: June 06, 2012, 03:59:22 PM
okay done...

...when you log in, it should auto-detect any new (confirmed) deposits.
It seems the auto-detection is not working
292  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Paying 6.9% per week... small accounts welcome. on: June 05, 2012, 02:48:06 PM
I like the website - nice and clear.
Deposited more coins.
293  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 24, 2012, 11:07:10 AM
....
People have no reason to trust Bitcoinica Consultancy either.  Right now the "official" statements have about as much credibility as those which came "from the desk of Tom Williams" following the MyBitcoin debacle.
...
Could it be that this Tom Williams is the new owner?
294  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 24, 2012, 09:21:23 AM
if the hacker releases anything it does not automatically invalidate the nda, because nobody knows if the hacker wrote the mails himself.

a nda is a nda...

while legally right, it would be hard to execute, if you just publish then public knowledge.

(but i am very interested in this mails; but if they are released you should read them with a big grain of salt)
 - i am not even sure if i am allowed to read them (german law is sometimes a little bit confusing.. a little "delete this mail if it is not for you" at the end of the mail is enough to forbid reading)
Someone could remove that last line and forward it to you, and soon you are allowed to read it.
But frankly, an email is a digital postcard, everyone on the whole delivery chain can read it.
295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 24, 2012, 09:09:37 AM
I believe that his computer is not hacked. Only the email server was compromised. Also, I have checked the claim verification email system (I set it up and I still have some access) and the entire chain is clean and secure.

So you agree that hacker having all those emails. If he would publish all those, and reveal information about ownership of bitcoinica, contracts and whatnot, it would more or less invalidate those NDAs and you all could tell the whole true story.

We have replaced all the compromised servers and Internet accounts (we re-registered new ones).

Your passports are in my private repository (AES-256 encrypted), and the previous API access key was revoked. I'm the only person with access to such information now. Patrick et al. can request for the repository once they need it, but currently they don't.
Great to hear that at least those document should be safe.
296  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 24, 2012, 08:47:14 AM
If you get the consent to publish both in full please do. Realise that "cherry picking" though through a partial log might not be a smart long term strategy.

I have browsed through both. I have not responded you in the group. It's just a few consecutive complaints of you about my wrong-doing.

I received some advise from other people too, but the "advise" is irrelevant here.

We'll never have permission to post the group chat most likely. And you don't give me the permission to post the private chat. The private chat starts with a greeting and was never continued after the day. It's not partial log.

So the only person can shed some light on this all and is not bound by some NDA and has/had access to all the information is the very hacker. IIRC he has/had access to Patrick computer or at least his emails. Maybe we can convince him to publish Patricks email database. I am pretty sure he copied all of them, hackers usually do this.

BTW, am I the only one that feels a little strange that apparently Patrick does the claim thing alone? The very person that shared this computer with the hacker. Now I should send him all of private data?
297  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Announcement] Bitscalper under new management. on: March 21, 2012, 02:57:18 PM
More than a month ago I sent some PM and emails to bitscalper about getting back my funds. Of course I got no reply.
After finding this announcement I sent some PM to MiningBuddy.  And it seems that MiningBuddy handles this case the very same as bitscalper - by simple not answering.
That behavior leads to a simple question: Is this announcement for real or is MiningBuddy and bitscalper the same person?

Your post leads me to a simple question: Are you retarded or are you retarded?

I myself lost only a marginal test amount. Actually I wasted more on bitlotto Wink
I write here, to let others know. See, MiningBuddy make it looking like everything will be resolved, but I highly doubt this.
Still, will I try to get it back? Of course.

299  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: TradeHill - suspension of US wire deposits / withdrawals on: January 06, 2012, 10:25:12 PM
I guess their response is "In Process", nice way of doing business.

The real irony is that Jared (tradehill) complains that banks are slow, and then when one uses an instant method like Paxum, the very same tradehill guys happily add a few days before actually letting you use the funds that they them self got within a single second...

The big reason for Paxum delays when they happen is the 3-5 day waiting period after we send them a wire to add more funds to the Paxum account. Mt Gox encounters the same problem and neither of us intentionally sit on Paxum deposits / withdrawals but run in to this when we have much higher or lower volume than expected.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.

Jered

Edit: we should have changed the banner and sent an email, you were spot on.

Jered: I was sending some funds TO tradehill - so there was no waiting period involved. It was just that no one at tradehill cared to actually click a button, or whatever manual system you guys have to make funds available after you got the money. So I waited almost 2 workdays. I did the same on MtGox and it took them 1 minute.
There is so much done purely manual at tradehill, that it sometimes amazes me the the actual exchange is automated...
