One way would be to only accept bids from new accounts who had taken the trouble to pay for Copper membership. Not foolproof but does indicate the buyer is more serious. However if you are auctioning a collectible that should fetch a high price, have the new accounts prove they have the bitcoin to pay by signing that address and send the message in a PM before allowing them to bid.

Some good points have been made. I don't plan on selling anything in the near future but I would most likely only allow bids from new accounts who had bought Copper membership. That does not prevent shill bidding but does indicate the buyer is more serious about collecting.

@hybridsole thanks for this great work!

Buyers are hesitant to bid more because bitcoin price is depressed and this is affecting all auctions. Good luck with the auction regardless!

I would think a 1/1 (not baseball related) poster will always increase in value over time but you never know. They sure seem to sell out quick compared to the 1/1 posters of players. I find it interesting that the base versions limited to 100 of those posters are actually more attractive than the 1/1 gold editions. The rare crypto cards are already appreciating like crazy. Right now I would rather buy rare crypto cards than coins.

So you don't see the limited 100 editions worth buying for long term?
I personally don't. Thanks! I really value your opinion on what to collect. Helps me avoid mistakes.

He called the bottom at $10k.
He called the bottom at $6k.
He called the bottom at $3.5k.
Eventually he will be right.
Yup looks like PentarhUdi (masterluc) is allowing for short term bear scenarios where he still turns out to be correct long term (covering his butt) not very useful IMO.

Congrats! Nice catch. The 100 edition base posters are still available wonder how long it will take for those to sell out.

Or, you buy now if you think the price of btc is gonna fall.
If you believe the price of bitcoin is going to fall you sell your bitcoin or use as collateral to short, and buy back lower. You don't spend your bitcoin on silly luxury items. Why do you think the collectibles market is so soft now? People who have been around either think we have seen the bottom for bitcoin price or price may drop further and prefer to hold rather than spend bitcoin right now. Auctions are being closed because few want to spend their bitcoin while price is low ... I have not seen that in years. Looks like buyers are waiting until prices are up again so they can pay less bitcoin to win an auction.

I would wait for the price drop which will surely come. No way will they sell many at 5 grand (they might not even sell any.) It takes cojones to even ask that much. Or the seller has a low opinion of collectors and thinks we will buy anything. I might buy one at $500. Are you reading this Coinkite?

Compared to the veterans here I have a small collection but I do have some nice Ginter X minis. It is a pain but I think I will go ahead and send them to PSA for grading the consensus seems to be if I ever decide to auction on eBay that certification could double the value. Any tips on sending to PSA or just follow the instructions on their site?

I did not know that! I think this auction just got a whole lot more interesting As far as I know this is the first error book to be auctioned/sold. 0.013 Edit: There were about 50 of these error books that made it into the wild. I know some of these were printed with the standard colors, I wonder what the breakdown of each is. I can get you a rough estimate soon, as I can check the inventory records from when I received the books 🤔 Current High Bid: 0.013 MJ: Do you have any figures on total production for the various editions of the Encyclopedia? I have always been curious about that. @frankbitcoin sorry to derail your thread. E.G. if 1000 of the Revised Premium were printed and there were only 50 error books that increases the value to collectors. By my count, there were 47 Premium and 3 Standard books sent out. This is not a "hard" number though, as there were some single sales after the initial distribution and I do have 1 or 2 of them here as well I would gather that there may be in the neighborhood of 60 to 80 books out there total?? for this 1st print Some of the 1st ones shipped had to be resent to me due to damaged corners/improper packing from the printers... this can be seen in the error page in the 2nd print CURRENT HIGH BID
.037
MJ: Do you know how many Premium Revised Edition 2016 Encyclopedias were printed in total or would Mr. Ahonen be the one to answer that? Thanks!
|
|
|
Both my copies of the Encyclopedia have slight dings on the corners. Particularly if you buy from Amazon they just ship in a book sized cardboard box, which fits the dimensions of the book, but with no padding. So there is little protection against slight damage during shipping. The condition of this one for sale looks the same as my Premium Revised edition bought new.

The lowest you can buy these new on Amazon is over $200 now and there is no guarantee you will get one of the first 50 with the error pages.

Good luck with your collecting! It will be challenging to find a Moon Suite, Ruby Labyrinth or Thug Life for sale. If you have the resources may as well try to buy the three most rare Kialaras first. You can always find the others for sale.

@dolphriends where do you see prices for these crypto cards a year from now? Considering whether to hold long term or sell some of mine while interest is high.
