2861  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The differences between digital money and cryptocurrency. on: August 23, 2021, 10:46:03 AM
If you say cryptocurrency is a type of digital currency, then I would assume that there cannot be clear cut differences between them, it's just dependent on the algorithm backing it up.

Saying cryptocurrencies are encrypted and digital currencies are not already contradicts itself as crypto is a type of digital currency, with its own qualities, which are not entirely limited to it. There are also lots of other digital currencies with different algorithm;
• Some centralized, while some others are not,
• Some are issues by the government and others are not,
• Some are less volatile than others, along with many other differences.
2862  Other / Meta / Re: Modlog questions on: August 23, 2021, 08:59:48 AM
IIRC, it goes back 7 days, regardless of the amount of entries, i.e. entries older than 7 days are removed. Mods don't have access to anymore info.
Could it be that some changes have been made to it recently? The only information I could find on the timeframe from the admin is this reply from 2012, and it says that the modlog shows the deletions from the last 14 days;
Here's a basic log of the last 14 days of deletions:
https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php

I believe the timestamps are intentionally omitted in order to make it difficult to conclude which moderator took action against a particular user. This is supposed to prevent mods from getting harassed.
Not sure if that's the reason as it would still be quite a job to find the mod from the timestamp, but the admins have surely showed an interest to hide the identity of the mods taking actions.
2863  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the price last until the end of the year? on: August 23, 2021, 08:33:14 AM
Bitcoin has reached and surpassed $50k only a few months ago (April), the current ATH is within the range of $64k and we are still a but shy of that.

Will the price last until the end of the year or will the price of Bitcoin go back down.
It's actually going back up, as it rose and then fell back. If it dies go down again, another opportunity to purchase more atvcgeaoer prices, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that; As Bitcoin grows in adoption and popularity, it's price continue to find higher support levels.
2864  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining fraud? on: August 23, 2021, 08:18:59 AM
Or to put it another way, what is the process by which a share is actually verified to have been performed on real hardware,
Creating a valid block involves solving the cryptographic puzzle which is unique for that particular block following the Bitcoin hashing algorithm - https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Block_hashing_algorithm.

It's sort of a puzzle, because there are lots of possibilities which need to be tried out, pretty quickly, before a valid one, unique to that block is discovered. To do this one needs lots of computing power as there is a lot of competition, and simply pretending to have such would not be enough

since (AFAIK) a share typically does not include a successful PoW that results in new coins?
You would need to explain a bit further what you mean by a 'share' and the other parts of the text.
2865  Other / Meta / Re: No Incoming my messages on: August 23, 2021, 07:37:21 AM
Your post are deleted and you did not see it on your account inbox, I do not think if that can be possible.
It can be possible, depending if the post was sent to the trashcan (from where it can be reviewed and sent back to the board it was made), or the reply was deleted along with a thrashed thread. In both cases, there would be no warning message in your inbox, IIRC.

but what I find surprising is that I don't know which posts were deleted so I can correct myself for the better?
There are user generated tools you can use to check your deleted and trashed replies and threads to correct any mistakes you can find.
Here's a list of all your posts you've made. I used one of LoyceV's many tools.

P.S, you do not need to add colour to your replies, except where necessary.
2866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Skeptical question on: August 22, 2021, 08:23:42 PM
If a nefarious miner tries to reward herself 10000 bitcoins after finding a correct PoW for her copy of the block, what is to prevent her from doing so ?
Consensus and protocol. Such a transaction would not be verified.

When a reward values changes, but not everyone hears about it, there are bound to be miners who submit valid PoW and blocks whose reward is out of sync with the larger consensus. How is that discrepancy dealt with?
The consensus rule, nodes verify everything to make sure the network is functioning smoothly, if someone requests something which is not in the current protocol, it would be promptly rejected by the nodes.
Halving events are very much anticipated and it's unlikely majority of nodes would forget when it occurs.
2867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Operator of Helix Bitcoin ‘Mixer’ Pleads Guilty on: August 22, 2021, 08:12:21 PM
because they have provided the services for the launderers to use, pretty sure that some people will still defend the use of mixers.
You move around with cash in you pockets, exchange that cash for goods and receive change, all of which cannot be traced to you, but the concept of making it difficult for someone to monitor your transactions feels dubious?

Like any other Bitcoin service, anyone is free to use it the way the wish, this means we would have honest and dishonest users, but it does not affect the purpose the system was created for, in this case - Privacy.
2868  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin dominance TA - Switch to BTC soon? on: August 22, 2021, 07:56:53 PM
some altcoins are giving high quick returns and many other shitcoins are also giving high returns, of course there is always someone who loses money in the process
With most altcoins and shitcoins, it is not an occasional individual losing money, it's instead majority of investors losing out. The risks are greatly increased when one tries to get high ROI from slow capped altcoin within a very relatively short period of time as this is pretty much a wild gamble.

Don't go after fomo or quick profits; rather focus on the fundamentals and qualities of the project.
2869  Other / Meta / Re: What do you think of the Bitcoin Discussion section? Does he need to change? on: August 22, 2021, 07:39:36 PM
Every one of his 12 threads is text spun plagiarism and zero value trash. This board needs a dedicated mod to stop users like this before they gain traction.
I actually commented on one of the users thread, although the main theme of the comment was replying to an idea I saw in another reply while scrolling through and which I thought was wrong. The purpose of the topic is a hackneyed one on the comparison of Bitcoin to gold.

It's an obvious case of spam and looking at the user's post history,,they have never replied to any of their threads since they joined the forum, they just push out thread after thread with no care to interact with any discussion on any of the threads.
2870  Economy / Reputation / Re: Whitelisting for Brand New accounts (Enable posting) on: August 22, 2021, 09:47:44 AM
A few users sent an email to everyone.
I'm curious how many requests Upgrade00 rejected.
I have rejected quite a few and a lot more never replied back to my email response, this could probably be cause I reply to their emails quite later as I don't check the email everyday.
I have also gotten emails starting with 'dear LoyceV'.

2872  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC/ETH influence on altcoins - explanation? on: August 20, 2021, 05:02:29 PM
Or the altcoin price is influenced by BTC or ETH buying / selling volume regardles if that particular altcoin is either bought or sold on the same trading platform?
Imo, I think it's more of this. Bitcoin has a market dominance of over 40% currently and that can quickly increase to 50 or 60% should the price keep rising, that level of influence means that an increase or decrease in the value of Bitcoin would have an impact on the general cryptocurrency market.
It doesn't need to happen on the same platform, traders just needs to b bullish about Bitcoin and that optimism could easily spread to other altcoins.

Bitcoin also being the first cryptocurrency means it has a lot of influence on the market.
2873  Other / Meta / Re: My brother wants to open bitcointalk account on: August 20, 2021, 11:58:37 AM
You will probably face that 'evil fee' thing, try creating account and see how it goes.
Creating multiple accounts from a single IP does no increase the amount of evil associated with it, it rather goes up when an account from that IP gets banned.

It shouldn't be probable, except Raihan.arh has had an account banned before or paid for evil fee while registering on the forum, if not, the new user would likely have no problem registering on the forum.
2874  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Basic Bitcoin skills on: August 20, 2021, 09:51:33 AM
What are the principal technical skills a bitcoin lover needs to have if I want to buy a large amount of Bitcoin and hold it for long-term purposes?
Not quite technical skills, but you should;
• Be privacy conscious and learn how to use a P2P platform for purchase or buy through OTC trades,
• Understand the basics of how a wallet works, setting it up, how to send and generate an address, lock an input etc,
• How to use an airgapped device, if you do not own a hardware wallet,
• Possible how to mix inputs to blur the trail of a transaction,
• How to browse safely to avoid falling for scam attempts.
• Also, how to safely store back up seed phrases for a long period of time.
2875  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can lean investor become rich in Bitcoin on: August 19, 2021, 02:44:28 PM
I come to think if investing in Bitcoin is only for  people who are financially stable, because this set of persons can meet up with the standards to invest Bitcoin which are.
Bitcoin is for people who value financial freedom and wish to be in full control of their assets, regardless how little that is. You will commonly see people say Bitcoin is not a get rich quick scheme, in reality it is not a get rich scheme at all; It's a decentralized peer to peer network which eliminates the need for a third party.

How possible can a broke a broke investor with no good capital become rich in Bitcoin.
Such an investor could grow a skill and market that using Bitcoin as a payment method.
2876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: With all your assets, Investing in Bitcoin is really a madness or beneficial ? on: August 18, 2021, 04:44:40 AM
In 2019, Bitcoin's peak price was $12k and during some periods of went as low as ~$7k, since the bull run started, Bitcoin has not dumped below $29k, so they are the very least have been Χ2 on their investment.

Should we invest just like them or should start with a less amount ?
Only invest amounts you can afford to lose at points in time, regardless of what you're investing in. Each asset has its fair share of risks and every investor should factor in the possibility of losing their investments.
Dollar Cost Average is one good way to get into Bitcoin using controlled amounts you can afford at scheduled periods.
2877  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: August 17, 2021, 09:48:44 PM
Dortmund lose yet again to Bayern and give the new coach his first victory for the club.
They didn't particularly play well for most of the game, but bad a fighting chance after the goal back from Reus, only to be pegged back by a silly mistake. Lots to take back home from the defeat and congratulations to the super cup champions.
2878  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Forum Skills on: August 17, 2021, 09:25:33 PM
Please, is it to early/late for me to start somewhere? I am not that comfortable with only posting and contributing texually here. I need to solve technical problems.
It's never too early or late to develop yourself and learn new skills. If you wish to contribute to the forum beyond replying and making threads, you could start from being an active reporter and scam buster, this doesn't require lots of technicalities and it is a very useful contribution.

Beyond these, you'll need to acquire some skill that will enable you carve out a niche for yourself as some of those other members have done.
