301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DECENT Announcement - Decentralizing Content Distribution on: September 08, 2016, 11:56:58 AM
So from strategic point, none of the founder is a developer which means they will have to hire, which will cost plenty (waves burns $60K a month and they have coders)
and what happens when they depleted the founds?
How long it will takes for the project to go in to production? ETh is present over 2years and they are still far from it.
50% extra on first day means we can have huge dump as usual becouse someone plan to make some bitcoins and move to another ICO.

This ico has early dump written all over it, but it's certainly interesting enough for me to follow.
302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DECENT Announcement - Decentralizing Content Distribution on: September 06, 2016, 07:16:28 PM
Thanks for addressing the question asked several pages ago.

"explicitly illegitimate content will be filtered at the level of gateways that would be under control of our organisations."

Can you elaborate? what do you mean by "our organisations?" who would "they" be, and how would "they" decide what is illegitimate? either this is decentralized or it's not, there isn't an in-between.
I wish you would address the issues of copyright infringement as well as whether or not there will be filtering of uploading untolerable things like child porn and snuff videos here, I wasn't at any of your conferences.

Sure. I mean the organisations under control of DECENT Foundation or similar entities. We all live in a legal system and we have to follow its rules. DECENT Network is a fully decentralised system, but not all the gateways and apps running on top of it are. For instance, a website that would run on top of DECENT is a centralised gateway running on top of DECENT Network. This is where the content would be filtered.

I would suggest to check out DECENT Whitepaper and our blog, where you can find more examples of apps running on top of DECENT Network.

So a person couldn't upload to the Decent network without going through one of these centralized gateways? how is this a decentralized platform then???

Not all gateways are centralised. DECENT Network is fully decentralised. Some of the gateways are centralised though.

Nevertheless, I would suggest to point your attention to
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1162392.msg16145762#msg16145762

where it has already been stated, namely:

"DECENT Network is a fully decentralised system, but not all the gateways and apps running on top of it are."

Similarly, this kind of question has already been answered in this thread and beyond a couple of times.

I believe that checking out DECENT Whitepaper, DECENT Yellowpaper, DECENT Prototype Demo Video, DECENT Video and our web will give you more insights into this.

So if a person can bypass centralized gateways, we are right back to the original problems of copyright infringement and illegal things like child porn and snuff video.

With the DECENT token I will not become a stock owner of DECENT. I am becoming an early customer of DECENT? What should be my motivation of that? Producing or consuming content later?

So who are the (stock) owners of DECENT company?

For most of my spare money, I am an investor. For the rest of my spare money, I am a speculator. What's in for me?

When buying DCT you purchase an access to the decentralized DECENT Network. DCT is a fuel to the network and makes it work. It has an inevitable function in the content publishing and buying process and ensure decentralized character of DECENT. It's up to you to decide what kind of DECENT user you would like to become.

I doubt more than a handful here want to be any kind of DECENT user, they just want to buy ico coins and dump them for a profit later. We aren't customers here, we are traders.
Quite frankly, this 1 million coins given away is a huge turn off for me, apart from my problems with the idea that haven't been answered satisfactorily. The last thing I want to watch is something I paid value for being devalued by people who got it for free.

Trying to buy  $10k of btc on Coinbase and their site is down FUCK!!!!!

Check out the date/time, I was PISSED.
307  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lose all your capital fast, with MatTheCat and his TA 101A! on: September 04, 2016, 10:55:04 PM
After having been the only person on earth to be goxed by both Kraken and Finex in the same week, I'm confident Mat will be back for round two of casino gulag Finex when it reopens.

No chance of that.

a) I no longer have the funds to make it worthwhile (I am still 50/50 whether I am going to get anything out of Bitfinex, anytime soon)
b) Even if I did, I would be insane to entrust any significant amount of funds to any Bitcoin exchange, period.

and

c) my decision making is fucking atrocious.

People who have difficulty and/or confidence in making decisions, have no business trading. Trading is the ultimate decision making game.

And the amount of times that I have agonised over the fact that I had my limit orders set on BFX, in order to get my BTC off and turned into GBP, only  to have discovered that I had left my mobile phone at my mothers, and when I called my mother for 2FA code, she wasn't in, etc etc.... I am the type of person that reads a lot of meaning into these things.....I had exactly the right idea in my head, i.e. "Get everything off BTC exchanges!", yet a cruel conspiracy of coincidences, sees that despite *knowing* to get the fuck off the motorway, I am still standing around in the middle of it, staring gormlessly at the speeding tanker heading right towards me.

This sounds all too familiar with my experiences trading. Often have the right ideas, but just have a knack of making the wrong decisions time and time again.

Failing a personality/karma transplant, I got to get the fuck away from this shit otherwise I will get my ass handed to me (already have).

Dont waste your time with this bullshit guys.

Remmeber the number one rule is dont lose money?  In other words only only pull the trigger when you are really sure of it.  Make sure you have waited as long as possible  and if there is an excuse not to make  a trade then take the excuse.

It is better to avoid losses and do nothing than to make good trades and then bad ones that cancel the good ones and more.

Remember guys the best action in this game, 99% of the time is "DO NOTHING.'

The market will always be open.

At the end of the day, there are other ways to make money in this life.  Spend most of your time on those ways not on trading.  Ocassionally there will be an opportunity in trading, when its there take it.  However you know the game, how in matt's words  "your ass can be handed to you. "  .  Just think about that before you make 1 single deposit with any broker whether you want that to happen.  Remember there are many legendary traders who made millions only to lose it all and die pennyless.

I.E.:  Making a profit however big is no good if the road you are travelling on leads eventually to total loss of all your money.  Make sure you are not on that road!!!

On the one hand its very difficult to make money but even more difficult in this game is keeping it.

I would agree with most of what you said, but sometimes taking the trade doesn't work either. I tried to buy $10k of bitcoin when it fell below $500 last crash on Coinbase, and the fucking site was down. I tried like a dozen times to buy as the price just kept climbing before giving up in disgust. I'm also sure there were buys set at $500 on bitfinex that got cancelled out. I guess the moral is, even when you do things right there isn't a guarantee you will come ahead - that's crypto for you, it's one white hot fucked up mess.

I think they are going to run their own service, and in this service they will have the power to filter out content. Not ban, but filter out from the service that they run. Others can still get the content from other users or service. Again, that's only what I assume.

This doesn't begin to answer my questions, but thanks?  Undecided
I don't think Decent will do anything other than make a few people rich and a bunch of people poorer, I'd like to be persuaded I'm wrong, but apparently the silence speaks for itself.

Here's the the post where I was suggesting that perhaps users can do something about illegal (despicable) content by coding something into Decent where if enough users vote, something could be completely taken off. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1162392.msg16084157#msg16084157 One of the developers responded by saying that those are valid points and that they're going to address it in future releases.

The truth of the matter is that there are many, many, many evil people in this world. A very large chunk, for as long as humans have been around. Whether it's 357 years ago, or 298 years from today. I wish we could eliminate every single child abuser out there, but unless we get god like powers that can detect such people, they will take advantage of technology. Whether it's torrents, TOR, Network, and another technology that I forgot the name of, there's nothing we can do to eliminate them completely, other than to take steps. This seems like a very wonderful technology, and I gave my suggestion as to how we can stop it. The best thing anyone can do now, including yourself is think of even better ways of stopping it.

A few minutes ago I saw something about Pokemon Go. I've never played it, but the question came to my head, a lot of people have died because of that game, but here is Nintendo expanding on it. Should they stop something that they've worked hard on just because of a minority that can't handle it, or should they continue making something that a lot of other people enjoy.

I couldn't agree more. A platform that would enable the scum of the earth to make money off outrageous things such as creating videos of murder, rape and child porn would create new victims. On the other side of it is centralization. Copyright infringement is even a bigger problem for this idea, as you have a mind boggling amount of money that would fight a truly decentralized platform. Is this decentralized or not? do we need to change the name to "kindofdecent"? So, what I'd like to hear from are the developers - who, as you say, have no fucking clue how to answer these questions - because this is most likely just a moneygrab scam.

I am still wondering whether there is going to be any feature to prevent child pornography. Or doesn't anybody give a damn about it?

Nobody gives a damn about legit questions like this, all they care about is the free coins they will be able to dump for btc later. The developers also don't give a damn about legit questions like this, because all they care about is the btc they will collect. Moneygrab scam is what this looks like to me.

It was sort of answered a few pages later. Where some suggesting that with a rating system, if enough people vote on it, the content could be removed. That was just one suggestion.

No, this doesn't answer the question - this only answers what happens with scammers.

The whole thing was a horrid rampaging rant until the racism, then it went from bad to farcial. Roach must really be drunk tonight. Roach, I'm not about to disect all this shit you said, but I can tell you for sure that the dollar ain't going to collapse anytime soon, not in our lifetimes for sure.

If by collapse you understand cease to exist... maybe not... But collapse as in you need 4000-5000$ to buy a loaf of bread... yep.. that will happen actually in a few years! .. Venezuela 2.0 in US.

Not gonna happen, nutball.
