There is something to be fixed in the Monero GUI-wallet. At least in the Linux version.

Only way to open the GUI is to type ./start-gui.sh in command line. Too complicated for many people. There must be an icon to click.

When the GUI is shut down, the flag and language selection box still remains open. It must be shut down from the ubuntu desktop launch menu by right clicking the Monero logo. Too complicated for many people. The GUI must be able to shut down by just one click.

When the GUI is shut down on full screen mode, the flag and language box which still remains open, is on full screen mode too, so the ubuntu desktop launch menu and the Monero logo in it, is not reachable. So it cannot be right clicked and shut down. Only way is to open the wallet again, switch of the full screen mode, shut down the wallet and right click the Monero logo in the launch menu. Too complicated.

Pease fix these.

Could you perhaps post screenshots to illustrate your second and third point? The GUI should normally close fully if you click on the x (right top), hence my question. Furthermore, the GUI is displayed in a single window / screen, i.e., the flag and language selection box / screen is not a separate window.

Ok. The problem can be avoided by clicking x on the right top. Everything shuts down at once.

I have closed the wallet by selecting "Settings" and "Close wallet". That way the flag and language selection box remains open which has to be shut down via the ubuntu launch menu. Most people have used that first one. So there is no problem white this one. The "Close wallet" is there just to shut down the wallet so the user can open an other wallet from the flag and language selection box. That is fine.

Anyway. When the "Settings" and "Close wallet" is done, on full screen mode, it would be better that the flag and language selection box would not appear in full screen mode. So that the ubuntu launch menu is visible and the flag and language box could be shut down there.

Ah I see. The purpose of the Close wallet button / feature is basically to close the current wallet, not to close the whole GUI program. As such, you will be back in the wizard, where you can first select a language and subsequently create a new wallet, create a new wallet from a hardware device, restore a wallet from the mnemonic seed or keys, or open a different existing wallet.

Hello!

I downloaded the Monero GUI wallet. Started the monero app on my ledger, and created a new address for the ledger, in the Monero wallet. Im waiting for the wallet to sync now. will the wallet work just as normal? The only difference, is that i will have to conect the ledger, to be able to send Monero?

And i dont have to keep the ledger connected, while the wallet is syncing?

Sorry for the noob questions:P

Please see:

https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/9901/how-do-i-generate-a-ledger-monero-wallet-with-the-gui-monero-wallet-gui

From the link you posted

It's imperative that the closing process of your Ledger Monero wallet is done in this specific consecutive order:
[1] Exit the GUI by clicking on the x (right top).
[2] Exit the Ledger Monero app.
[3] Unplug the Ledger device.

I unplugged the ledger, while i was waiting for the wallet to sync, when the wallet was still running. Any idea what kind of issues that can cause?

The wallet cache won't be saved properly. As a result, the wallet refresh will not pick up where it left off. That is, the next time it will start from scratch again. Luckily, this only takes 5-10 minutes with a proper restore height (e.g. the one in the guide).

By the way,

how is kovri doing?

Wasn't alpha software just recently released? We actually have a buildable functional kovri for the first time now as I understand it. Seems good.

I confirm that. All the previous releases have the status "alpha-rc", i.e. "pre-alpha". Official alpha has been released just few weeks ago:
https://github.com/monero-project/kovri/releases/tag/v0.1.0-alpha

Monero/Kovri devs do have just one disadvantage: a very... VERY poor PR activity. They often do the great things in total silence. They probably think the github activity is completely sufficient source of a new information for the whole community.

Yea that is a problem. Even getmonero.org is not properly updated. For example there was not info of GUI-problems. There were wrong wallet version numbers. The moneropedia https://getmonero.org/resources/moneropedia/ is inadequate. The team does anyway great job, but due to lack of PR, it is very difficult for ordinary people to get knowledge of Monero through all the noise of crypto.

What do you people think? Is this lack of communication conscious or just lack of situational awareness?

I guess the Monero community could have have some capabilty to arrange reasonable site and campaign for the possible future Monero users.

What kind of GUI-problems are you referring to? As far as I know, the issue of the downloads page listing the wrong version number was swiftly resolved.

With respect to Moneropedia, it's basically to community's job to improve it.

I wouldn't say the lack of communication is conscious. Rather, Monero is largely built by volunteers and, as a result, there is no dedicated "team" to manage these kind of things.

Hy guys,

are we supported now by ledger or not, at least it is not on the Ledger HP on the supported cryptoassets  Roll Eyes

Both the CLI and the GUI have direct Ledger support. Ensuring you have a proper setup is currently quite technical though. That's probably why Ledger has not listed Monero yet under supported cryptoassets.

Note that one of the Ledger devs is working on improving the user experience of the initial setup, i.e., ensuring it is plug-and-play on all operating systems (currently Ledger in conjunction w/ Monero is basically only plug-and-play on Windows). In addition, their CTO (btchip) stated that, eventually, Monero will, most likely, be included in their native desktop app (Ledger Live).

Did you manage to resolve your issue? Note that, as mattcode said, you can only start mining once you're fully synced.

I just generated a fresh wallet from ledger effectively. I observed a wallet document was made on my computer. Does this file store my private keys? If so, what's even the idea in a hardware budget.

From this guide:

https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/9901/how-do-i-generate-a-ledger-monero-wallet-with-the-gui-monero-wallet-gui/

Quote
The .keys wallet file stored on your system contains some settings related to the wallet, your public keys, and your private view key in case you exported it. It does not contain your private spend key. Put differently, the private spend key remains on the Ledger device.

Also, how careful must i be with keeping this document? Imagine if I delete it accidentally? AM I GOING TO lose usage of my wallet completely easily do so?

You can simply regenerate it with aforementioned StackExchange guide.

Not necessarily. You can use the GUI too:

what I get while i don't possess my Ledger NanoS attached and looking to create/use a Ledger centered monero key. Shouldn't understand this if you your Ledger attached and the Monero application installed on the Ledger via the Ledger Live Supervisor, and authorize export of your type in the Ledger's Monero app.

Which operating system are you using? Note that, currently, Ledger Live does not support Monero yet and therefore you have to use Ledger in conjunction with the official CLI or GUI.

There will be guides on how to use the GUI directly to generate a Ledger Monero wallet. In the meantime, you can use the guides listed here with CLI & GUI v0.12.3.0:

Will Kovri be integrated with Monero wallet or will it remain a separate project?

It will both be integrated with Monero and, as far as I know, remain a separate project.
