301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "Connect Wallet" must go on: March 21, 2024, 10:04:59 AM
As long as people generally prefer convenience over security, "connect wallet" feature will remain exist on many altcoin/multi-coin wallet.

- Lack of anonymity. Maybe not for the wallet holder but the business sending such notifications for a approval must be KYC

Wallet which offer "connect wallet" feature usually are light wallet which connect to certain server, which makes most of those wallet owner no longer anonymous.
302  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Decentralized whirlpool! on: March 21, 2024, 09:59:42 AM
Since the blog lack many details, i have so many question. For example, is there any mechanism to protect against de anonymization by sybil attack? I also wonder what will developer of wallet which offer Whirlpool feature (e.g. Sparrow Wallet) do.
303  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can someone make a testnet BTC exe? on: March 21, 2024, 09:43:40 AM
I don't  really  get your question...
If you mean an exe app that stores testnet btc, there are wallets that allow testnet  btc mode like Electrum and Bitcoin  core .
You can just swithch to testnet mode by launching the exe in a testnet mode,in bitcoin core current installation  using the GUI, the testnet  is also installed along with your standard  bitcoin core separately by default.
If this seem not to be what you meant then elaborate  more......

I know about those wallets i mean one that is dedicated to the testnet only the testnet.

If you don't mind Android wallet, check https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet_test. Other than that, i don't know anyone else who bother create testnet-only version of their Bitcoin wallet sofrware.
304  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hosting companies that don't ask for KYC? on: March 21, 2024, 09:31:48 AM
I don't want to risk hosting multiple e-commerce websites via hosting provider that god knows when will disappear, I am looking for trusted and reliable provider. Btw this doesn't mean hostvds is a bad company but from my experience, many companies come and go on lowendtalk and that's why I don't want to risk, I don't want to backup and migrate things back and forth.

I understand, but as reminder that thread mention many provider which has been around for long time.

I bought a 15$ VPS plan on buyvm.net, they also offer a free DirectAdmin license and accept Bitcoin payments. At the moment, this is the best price-to-offer ratio that I found online that also offers crypto payments and doesn't ask for KYC submission.

I just checked their ToS/privacy policy and it looks good compared with most provider. Although the ToS state they expect you enter few personal information (name and home address). And 1 dedicated CPU core isn't that attractive offer (i assume you choose slice 4096) for that price.
305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Blocksize War is still ongoing. on: March 21, 2024, 09:17:32 AM
Block size war is over. People who support bigger block size, but still choose Bitcoin is in minority.

It’s crucial not to let these subsequent layers become mere copies of the current system.

Mere copies? Ridiculous, many sidechain/L2 offer feature what Bitcoin doesn't.

Lightning Network is an excellent system, but I cannot truly claim to always possess my funds. Doing so would be far from simple, and I end up relying on someone else.

LN is far from perfect and only meant for micro-transaction. But FWIW there are few light non-custodial LN wallet where you only rely on 3rd party watchtower.

Liquid is cost-effective, and I hold my private keys, but the system is controlled by a few companies.

That's true, but Liquid also offer Confidential Transaction, faster block time and turing-complete smart contract.
306  Other / Meta / Re: Should speculation about satoshi's identity be subject to doxxing rules? on: March 21, 2024, 09:03:43 AM
You're merely attempting to justify that your curiosity is somehow more important than someone else's safety.  Don't you care that you could be endangering someone?  Seems a little selfish to me.
Why should it be dangerous to know who Satoshi is? Since when do we hide that information? Is Vitalik Buterin in danger since we know that he created ETH? Is SEC chairman in danger since we know he is the chariman? Is JP Morgan CEO in danger? Is Elon Musk in danger because we know that he owns Tesla?

Surely you know public figure usually have more protection, right? And personally i'd rather not see "news" which attempt to discredit Bitcoin based on Satoshi identity (e.g. nationality and religion).
307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is there an analogue for BTCrecover Android? on: March 20, 2024, 12:37:16 PM
I am curious how hot my phone would get after full CPU and GPU load for a couple of hours though.

I recall average high-end phone may reach 50 degress on high usage. But FWIW, external phone cooler exist.

And for example, on some of them, for example, Satoshi worth less than $10.  It is in such cases that there will be a demand for some simple applications on Android.  Roughly speaking, when the owner of such wallets with small amounts is simply too lazy to engage in serious programs like the same BTCrecover.  For example, why should he bother with Python, with the command line and fiigure it all out, if in the Android application he simply entered a password and received a couple of keys.
It’s convenient and I think it will still be in demand.  And the performance of the latest smartphones is indeed very good.

In this case, i expect people would look for free and user friendly recovery software where they don't care whether it's on Android or other OS. Although it's different case if they also don't have either computer or laptop.
308  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: new Bisq 2 (P2P BTC Exchange System) is out! on: March 19, 2024, 10:34:18 AM
a 10 minute video about the new beta version can be found here: https://bisq.network/blog/bisq-2-now-in-beta/

Here's wiki page for those who prefer reading, https://bisq.wiki/Bisq_2. Although there are some information only stated on either wiki or video. There are many interesting point, although no longer require to run full node could boost Bisq usage.
309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Has anyone run a node under Bodhi 7.0 on: March 19, 2024, 09:58:29 AM
Yep, it seems to be a cut down version of the "Jammy Jellyfish" version of Ubuntu. Where do they find these names?

Short answer, it's based on an adjective and animal name.
Full answer, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DevelopmentCodeNames

It's really just the bare bones, and it doesn't include things like Snap, as this slows down the operation of the computer I understand. It looks ideal if you just want to use the computer for a few specific functions, such as running a node. Right now I'm using Thunderbird for email, and WaterFox for browsing. I might include those if the hold up to my current requirements. Bodhi uses slightly more than 250Mb of RAM, and that will leave lots of room for the node software to run in the background I hope.

It's use less RAM than i expected since their FAQ state 512MB is the minimum requirements.

It will be run over public WiFi or a mobile hotspot.

Don't create any wallets on it or use it to broadcast any transactions unless you are using the Tor network. So onlynet=onion. A public WiFi has all sorts of people eavesdropping on the connections.

It's also worth to mention connection between Bitcoin nodes isn't encrypted.
310  Economy / Reputation / Re: Anonymity of Bitcointalk forum members on: March 19, 2024, 09:49:42 AM
Does it mean that our activities here just ends within the forum and doesn't extend to real life?

No, i've seen few uses reveals their identity. Meetups board also exist, although these days it's used to promote meetups with commercial/advertising aspect.

And how do we cope with performing transactions with one another even when our identities are not known and in a case of fraudulent activities, how can the culprits be held responsible or accountable?

That is why using escrow is recommended. Although for "small" scale scam, it's definitely hard to held scammer responsible/accountable.

312  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Radical New Discovery Could Double The Speed of Existing Computers on: March 18, 2024, 08:11:01 AM
This discovery might be interesting for Bitcoin and crypto miners. There is a thing called merged mining and SMHT might make it more profitable.

I'm not sure why you are bringing up merged mining, but in general, improvements to computer processing power and efficiency do not affect overall profitably. They only increase the difficulty.
Merged mining allows you to mine more than one currency without compromising on computational performance, am I wrong? So, this new technology allows the tasks to run simultaneously across multiple processors. Not the best parallel but I thought I had to include it.
Actually, you are right, it's only going to increase difficulty but it's always increasing and more powerful miners always bring a better profit.

Merged mining doesn't mean you split computational resource into 2 or more coins. The computational resource only goes to one of the coins. For example in BTC+NMC merged mining, you allocate computational resource on primary BTC where BTC miner include hash of NMC blocks on mined BTC block. Of course, the hash of NMC doesn't need to meet difficulty target on NMC network.
313  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BITCOIN TESTNET supply on: March 18, 2024, 07:44:02 AM
I think OP actually want to ask "When will Bitcoin Testnet mining reward (excluding reward from TX fee) reach 0?". Since BTC and tBTC have same method of supply generation, it'll happen on block #6930000. Current block height on testnet is already at #2582202. At current pace and considering people sell/buy tBTC, i expect it'll happen within 10 years or less.

I will buy tBTC do you have any to sell?

I only have tiny amount of tBTC and i don't plan to sell those. However,
1. You can try either tBTC faucet or exchange.
2. Depending on your needs, you could setup regtest (testnet on private environment) or obtain signet (newer iteration of testnet with few differences) Bitcoin.
314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is there an analogue for BTCrecover Android? on: March 17, 2024, 09:49:01 AM
With what I known, I have not seen anything like that before. But if you convert your Android phone OS to Linux or Windows OS, you will be able to run the recovery tools also on your phone, but that is no more Android as you converted it to Linux or Windows. Linux has some mobile phone compatible versions.

FWIW, you can run Linux distro inside Android using application such as UserLAnd. But the harder part is checking whether all dependency required by btcrecover exist on ARM-based CPU.
315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Has anyone run a node under Bodhi 7.0 on: March 17, 2024, 09:39:33 AM
Has anyone got any tips, comments or advice on running this? It will be run over public WiFi or a mobile hotspot.

I've no specific tips. But since it's based on Ubuntu, tutorial for Ubuntu might work on Bodhi. Of course there are more exception when GUI is involved since Ubuntu use GNOME while Bodhi use Mokhsa.
316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jamie Dimon Compares Bitcoin to Smoking on: March 17, 2024, 09:21:58 AM
But.. that's actually a great take though?

He'd personally wouldn't own bitcoin, but he supports everyone's financial freedom to purchase things they believe in. Why are the responses to this thread so negative despite the neutral(but very reasonable) stance? Read the freakin article, don't just read the headline looool.

But the article also state he prefer stricter regulation for Bitcoin, which isn't really good thing when laws which involve Bitcoin is already strict. He also state if he's the government, he'd close it down. Combining that with his past statement and his business deeply involved with cryptocurrency, it's hard to trust him.
317  Other / Meta / Re: Poll: Colored Text Usage in Forum Posts on: March 17, 2024, 09:13:38 AM
Do you like colored text in forum posts?
Yes
No
Neutral

How do you believe the use of colored text enhances or detracts from the forum experience?
Enhances
Neutral
Detracts

It depends on how it's used. I think people raise their complain because you use it excessively. Consider use bold or color only on few sentences or words. There's reason phrase "less is more" exist.

Should the forum continue to offer text formatting options, including colors, for posts?
Yes absolutely
Yes with some restrictions
No it should be removed entirely

Yes.

Should the forum owner only remove the colored text option?
Yes
No

No.

319  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: "Introducing the Randomized Node Consensus Protocol: A Paradigm Shift in Blockch on: March 16, 2024, 10:21:38 AM
Feels like it's AI generated, since it has decent writing, but with so many technical error. First of all, what stops someone to run lots of node at once in order to manipulate consensus or earn tons of money?
320  Economy / Reputation / Re: AI Spam Report Reference Thread on: March 16, 2024, 10:09:28 AM
Fortunately, AI-generated text usually doesn't meet any of those criteria.
Yet Sad

By that time it happens, i expect this forum either already overrun with AI or ban AI even at risk of false positive.

The topic was removed by Mods right after I posted this:

8 replies and nobody realised they're responding to verbal chatbot diarrhea? You're all wasting your time!

Even i wasn't sure that thread written by AI. Maybe it's because me and other people frequently see AI generate answer/statement rather than generate question.

What worries me are those that spamlinks because as you've said the backlinks are undetected for a really long time.

I recall that if someone edit a post, the thread will be bolded which indicate there's new/edited post. If spammer do that on board with relative low activity, it's somewhat easier to detect.
