761  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What's the current state of replay protection for the forks? on: December 07, 2023, 10:00:21 AM
I assume only BCH, BSV are probably worth the time.

As for BSV, your option for wallet and exchange would be very limited since it has ridiculous big blockchain size and so many controversy.

Are there any safe non-KYC exchanges where I can do the swaps?

No specific recommendation, but i'd mention https://kycnot.me/ which list exchange with no or optional KYC.

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin SV (BSV) are indeed the most notable forks of Bitcoin.

Actually BSV is fork of BCH. Although since OP haven't touched his coin in years, he should have both BCH and BSV.
762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHY PEOPLE ARE NOT TAKING THEIR PRIVACY SERIOUSLY. on: December 07, 2023, 09:44:50 AM
In case you missed the news, Ocean Mining ran by Jack Dorsey, luke-jr, Giacommo Zummo and some other folks are refusing to mine Samourai whirlpool transactions. But this thread is not about that.

If statement by Samourai Wallet is true, then it's irony knowing statement on their website.

Today, pools operate like custodial bank accounts and have the ability to decide who can and who can't use Bitcoin. The so-called "51%" attack vector is already a reality because it only actually takes 20-30% of network hashrate to have a good probability of getting away with an attack.

As for censorship, it is no longer a matter of actual resistance but merely if and when the pools choose to do it there are 11 entities who decide what transactions go in (or stay out) of almost every block, and simply the 2 largest can impose censorship on everyone else with 100% success. This is not some future risk but a present reality, and it's not sustainable if Bitcoin is to remain a permissionless currency.

Why do people think that coordinators, mixers, coinjoin software, etc.  have something to hide?

In addition, why having something to hide is perceived negatively?

WHY PEOPLE ARE NOT TAKING THEIR PRIVACY SERIOUSLY.

I believe some people think they take privacy seriously. But IMO the real problem is they don't know privacy risks of using 3rd party or don't realize what information could be gained if someone were to collect all of information they made publicly.
763  Economy / Services / Re: [Consultations available] Personalized Cybersecurity & Privacy Report for $42 on: December 07, 2023, 09:13:38 AM
I'm not interested with your service, but i have few feedback for you.
1. Specify which cryptocurrency and payment method you accept.
2. When offering service, i expect they either offering few free vouch or showing proof of their past work which is relevant with service they offer.
764  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: December 07, 2023, 08:57:19 AM
Thinking about it, the rule that merits cancel votes can lead to this type of situation: the user sending merits to those who vote for them in a category that they don't like.

It is expected that people want to win, but the opposite can also happen. So this management becomes complicated.

franky1 did the same thing at the previous event:

- franky1 tried to abuse the system, by meriting 2 of those who nominated him as antihero, in order to have less votes at this category (facepalm)

However, in his case I overruled the existing rule, as this user tried to abuse the contest in plain sight. Same will happen now. In any case, Royse "managed" to obtain even more votes at that category, thus franky1 got "only" second place. Perhaps he'll have more luck this year? Smiley

I don't remember what exactly happened last year, but wouldn't your action attract some account or merit farmer?
765  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Why is my miner mining less date every day? on: December 07, 2023, 08:51:39 AM
Based on https://www.whattomine.com/, it should be possible for break even. But it heavily depends on few coins which have low market cap.
Doesn't Nicehash only pay with Bitcoin?

Yes.

From their profitability page, it seems like even RTX 4090 is only earning less than $2 a day. Maybe they run other things to make their device profitable, or their energy cost is low, to begin with? It is really hard to understand why anyone would provide their device for such low profitability if they can't offset the cost.

Aside from low electricity cost, i'd speculate it's dominated by exiting miner (who used to mine ETH) who aim to either,
1. Squeeze all money they could get from their GPU.
2. Hoping those unpopular PoW coin might be enough to make break even.

Although on those case, selling their GPU is probably more sensible option. I also hear people who works on AI sometimes looks for used Nvidia GPU.
766  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi Wallet - Open Source, Noncustodial Coinjoin Software on: December 06, 2023, 11:20:11 AM
This is not just about Wasabi but any service relying on TOR for security.
Just keep in mind, you are relying on the fact that the TOR exit node you are using is actually not malicious / monitoring what you are doing.

https://therecord.media/thousands-of-tor-exit-nodes-attacked-cryptocurrency-users-over-the-past-year

Just something to keep in the back of your head.

-Dave

I don't see much relevance when AFAIK WabiSabi coordinator (run by zkSNACKs) use .onion address and Wasabi Wallet only connect to either your local node or someone else full node which also use .onion address. CMIIW.
767  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Which Linux distribution would you use now? on: December 06, 2023, 11:11:50 AM

Talking about Windows, are you aware of LTSC version which has less bloat and longer support?

Yeah, that is what I have been using since day 1. Windows 10 LTSC Enterprise version 1809. It works pretty well, gets updated, and has never added anything in terms of bloatware, so im good. Im not sure for how long does this get you covered before they force you to update to Windows 11. I think it was 10 years, so arround 2028 I'll have to update to whatever is the next best thing that's lightweight and long term supported.

I see, that's great. Although Microsoft had history of reducing support duration for LTSC or similar product.

Perhaps,
1. OS you used isn't that old.
2. There's background application which regularly obtain new trusted certificate.
3. The browser remain up to date even though it's on old OS.
Windows Server 2008R2 is pretty old, it went EOL back in 2020. Browsers are not always up to date on older OSs. I've seen Chrome and Firefox failing to update because new version is not supported by old OS.

I mean something even older such as Windows XP (EOL on 2014) where i see some people claim they can't use internet properly due to SSL/TLS problem.
768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why Bitcoin Legacy Address got Replaced with Segwit on: December 06, 2023, 10:55:09 AM
You seem to be unaware that LTC was a fork, Not comparable to Doge.
Fork is the technical term for a copy. If you check the source codes you can see how they have and still are simply copy pasting everything from their parent project (everything except the small parts they'd changed).
https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin
https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/compare/master...litecoin-project:litecoin:master

Commits on Nov 18, 2020 is what I see,
That is 3 years off.

--snip--

FWIW Nov 18, 2020 seems to be earliest date. If you scroll down and clcik "Load more commits" few times, you'll see latest date which is May 12, 2023.
769  Economy / Reputation / Re: Most famous person on Bitcointalk? on: December 06, 2023, 10:42:56 AM
Do we have more famous people on Bitcointalk but still active recently? Not limited to Bitcoin and Altcoins of course.

I mean a real person, like John Mc Affee or similarly famous.

In that case, i'd guess it'd limited to few people with technical knowledge (such as Jameson Lopp and Gregory Maxwell).
770  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where the mixers will promote their projects? on: December 06, 2023, 10:38:54 AM
platforms like cryptotalk may be available for them,
That site is no way in compare to other crypto-related forums and its considered as dead, almost no new post there upon checking it. Bitcoingarden or altcointalk and reddit is much more considerable than that cryptotalk.

But i wonder how many people or user of those website actually care about their privacy? At least on this forum, we know some member claim they take privacy seriously (some even on paranoid level).
771  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mixers - Are we the product? on: December 06, 2023, 10:35:56 AM
Instead, an illusion of privacy was promoted to clearnet users (that's us here in bitcointalk), while in fact our "cleaner" funds were used to bail out real criminals and terrorists. Because to a mixer, a clean bitcoin, is worth more than market value, so they were willing to overpay for it in the form of advertising. Come to think of it, the recent bust of Sinbad served as a reminder that mixers are in fact very traceable.

I doubt this part of your theory is true when authority simply treat all known coin from mixer as tainted.

This is all just a theory of course, but honestly, trust no one, not even me.
It's a very real possibility though, that with mixers, we might be the product.

In that case, consider CoinJoin instead.

Seriously though, let's not for a second pretend that mixers are actually untraceable. With pretty simple checks they can be identified and many have had their accounts limited on platforms for depositing with a mixer. I guess most people wouldn't say so publicly but we've seen such posts on this forum too.

You need to see difference between,
1. Checking whether a coin comes from mixer. This part isn't hard.
2. Knowing actual source of the coin with it's associated TXID (before it's mixed). This part usually is much harder, although it comes down to how well certain mixing process works.
772  Other / Off-topic / Re: Remember to press enter on: December 06, 2023, 10:18:44 AM
While using enter is generally preferable, it's not always better. Here's an example where too many enter is being used, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5440208.msg61778062#msg61778062. Although IMO the main problem here is total of words/character in a line. If you use screen with big resolution without zoom in, you could see >300 character in a line.
773  Other / Meta / Re: cryptofrka's Merit Source application - let's improve the gambling boards on: December 06, 2023, 10:04:09 AM
A small bump, considering that advertising mixers will be banned soon, there might be even more interest in the gambling boards.

Let's make a small step towards the right direction there Smiley
Why would there be more interest in the gambling board if mixers are banned?

I think OP speculate there will be more signature campaign run by casino.

There are only two reasons that I can deduce:
1. The casinos will be used as a new frontier for mixing, which (no matter innocent privacy intentions or not) would be considered as money laundering.

Irrelevant, mixers still exist and people can use it anytime they want. Besides, using platform which ask KYC to perform money laundering is nothing new.

2. As paid posters will now have to post in the gambling board to reach their quota's, which would mean that there would be an increase in posts where genuine posting isn't the motive, but rather to meet their quote.

I agree, but what matter most is quality of the post itself.
774  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitboost: An EVM co-processor for Bitcoin mainnet on: December 05, 2023, 10:06:07 AM
While there are many project/protocol which utilize witness data these days, it's nice to see one which pay attention to size of the data. But does that mean 2 Bitcoin on-chain TX still needed by Bitboost?
775  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Mixing Services on: December 05, 2023, 09:58:57 AM
As a side project, I always wanted to develop a mixing services and explore this sector.
I have yet a problem of where I should start, since I do not fully grasp the idea of mixing

If that side project involve real Bitcoin (Bitcoin mainnet), please seek different kind of side project. Without proper skill and experience, you might fail to protect privacy of people who use your service.

and would love if anyone provided me with some research papers or documentations on how to implement mixing.

Mixing service usually doesn't reveal how their service works, so such paper/documentation almost nonexistent. However, there are some research about CoinJoin and breaking privacy offered by mixing service.
776  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Why is my miner mining less date every day? on: December 05, 2023, 09:47:43 AM
Anyone know of a miner that mines quietly similar to the futurebit Apollo, but with more hash?

Have you checked Heatbit? It claim to offer 8-10 TH/s speed with <40 db noise. But since it's multipurpose device, don't expect much.

This is a bad device for mining bitcoins. Better buy a good video card for $700 and mine bitcoins on NiceHash. With a graphics card, you will always have more options.
With the Ethereum mining which was so profitable with GPUs long gone. How do those Nice hash folks break even? I have never thought about platforms like Nicehash before.

Based on https://www.whattomine.com/, it should be possible for break even. But it heavily depends on few coins which have low market cap.
777  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Parental Guild on Bitcoin on: December 05, 2023, 09:22:05 AM
--snip--
If a child can operate an android device properly, play video game, use communication gadget, use different computerize device etc. why will I not introduce them gradually to Bitcoin. Digital currency is the future and should I not be responsible enough to start channeling them gradually to that direction. I don't agree completely that kid cognitive processes lack awareness, consciousness, and the ability to maintain a sequence of thoughts in their minds.
Note: It is in record that Tiger Woods turn Professional Golfer at 20 but was expose to golf at child hood.

But don't forget those require less responsibility. For example, if you forget password of social media, you could just ask to reset password. But Bitcoin require higher degree of responsibility and there's no "undo button" when you make mistake.

Is buying Bitcoin or cryptocurrency good for Kids?

Yes, assuming they're being responsible with fiat money and aware of risks of owning cryptocurrency (primarily unstable price).

Should authorities or agencies place age restriction on owning Bitcoin?

No, especially because kid is legally allowed to own money and even have opening bank account (usually with some supervision or feature limitation)
778  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Introducing: blockdyor on: December 05, 2023, 09:04:40 AM
A guide on public key cryptography and how it works in cryptocurrencies: Public And Private Keys: What Are They And How Do They Work?

Please double check this article.

This private key is stored on the blockchain, allowing anyone to verify your ownership by referencing your corresponding public key.

Private key isn't stored on the blockchain.

1. Encryption: The transaction is encrypted using your public key, making it accessible only through the corresponding private key. This encryption ensures the confidentiality of the transaction data.

This part is wrong since there's no encryption involved when creating Bitcoin transaction. There's no confidentiality since the amount, sender address and receiver address are known.
779  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to view cryptocurrency prices secretly on phone? on: December 05, 2023, 08:53:11 AM
So I thought telling that person to delete their web search history each time on google chrome on their phone would work but this would be a huge hassle for someone not tech savy.  Also they would have to enter bitstamp website every single time and since that person isn't tech savy, I would have to write the bitstamp website on paper for them to leave at home and they type it every single time on their iphone.  Does anyone here have any alternatives to this?

One alternative would be adding that website to the homescreen, many browser these days offer that feature. Here's an example guide how to do it, https://www.howtogeek.com/667938/how-to-add-a-website-to-your-android-home-screen/.

The other thing I thought was download the bitstamp app? However, can you view updated current prices with any of those apps if you don't have an account with that site?

I don't know behavior of Bitstamp app. But there are so many application which let you see price of cryptocurrency without login. Even CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko have it's own mobile  application.
780  Other / Meta / Re: Issues Bitcoin Talk members meet using the website without Java Script on: December 05, 2023, 08:46:17 AM
Non Java Script users are probably only a handful.

Recently i found this old article (https://gds.blog.gov.uk/2013/10/21/how-many-people-are-missing-out-on-javascript-enhancement/) which state only 1.1% of their visit doesn't use JS for various reason. That article is 10 years old, but i'd speculate it means less than 1% bitcointalk visitor disable JS.

Doesn't disabling it breaks the website?
Is it because of any security purpose?

I believe OP already answered these question on previous reply.

And how did you disabled it? Via extension on inbuild options from browser. Never went deep with browser settings, so I don't know, if it was possible.

No extension needed. The method varied for each browser, but for Tor Browser you just need to set security level to "Safest".
