I will say this for the new members: toss out the "pay by day" mining calculator. Think in terms of weeks and months, and don't start doubting your rewards during the ramp. I can say this, because I was in those shoes as well. For every day there isn't a block found, there are days when multiple get found. It at times, can feel like you are walking on the edge of a sword during the ramp. Stay strong, and stick it out.

Also, concerning the lower rewards since our hashrate increase: more hashrate = more frequent blocks found. We are gaining more hashrate, and the goal is getting closer. Nobody will be doubtful when we are busting a block a day.

The bottom line is, this is mining. No matter where you choose to contribute, there will be times of trial. That is the nature of the beast!!!
This pool has the best pool operator in the industry,  and keeps getting better by the minute. Bamm!!!

I'm guessing as a noob there is a character limit but I think I found that works.

Lower ranks in the forum do not allow "clickable links", but as you rank up it will work. Thanks for supporting!!!

Hello Everyone!!! Just an update on Pool Promotion. I've spent some time over the weekend updating most of
the graphics I've made, to include the current pool hashrate. The Hashrate is looking good!!! Also, I spent a couple of hours making a few new ones, and we've been getting some decent amount of traffic.

I've had a few new members ask about Kano Pool signatures. If you'd like to show some support, here's a few.

Go to profile>forum profile information>paste in signature box>change profile button>enjoy!

I have never tried the android app so I can't speak for that one.

The android app sends me a notification when hashrate has dropped below my set limit. It also sends one when a block is found, although there's about a 30min delay. When opened, it reports a fairly accurate hashrate of my miners.
308  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: April 08, 2018, 08:38:11 PM

Last post on this:  No!  The 170% lucky pool could go to 190% and the 80% luck pool could go to 60%.  ITS RANDOM!!!!  The chances of finding a block ARE NOT affected by prior luck.  PERIOD.

Hahahaha!!! ccgllc, you sir, have fallen into the "just my 2 cents can of worms"!!! I've posted screen shots, proved my point was
backed with truthful evidence, and debated until the Mod deletes MY posts, but never got to the bottom of the can!!!

Just to pull things back on topic, if you mine at Antpool, you're getting robbed!!!

P.S. Bitmain is killing Bitcoin!!!

Thanx Kano!!! I was receiving alerts, saw the website was down, and instantly knew you'd be a busy fella.

Just a thought here about the new accounting page:

Is there any chance you could write a code/script that could, show the price of Bitcoin at the time of a reward payout? This feature
would certainly be helpful, for those of us who need to have a date with Uncle Sam! Ha!
minergain.com takes care of this automatically (in US dollars right now - if someone needs other currency, I can add that in an hour of programming).  Just do a file, save as of your rewards, upload that file to your minergain rewards section and the price of BTC when the block was found is assigned to the display below.  As I understand it, that is one way to report your cost basis.  Unfortunately I do not have the wallet transfers built in yet, so this method is only good for reporting based on when it is found for now.  Of course this can be used with any pool we are monitoring as well.  You can list your rewards by day, week, month or year.  You will have your accounting info done in about 2 minutes with this process!  PM me if you have any issues with the process.

THANK YOU Minergain!!! I will definitely set some time aside, to take a look at this.

.US only worries about Bitcoin as a capital gain if you are TRADING in BTC. IOW, if you buy 1 bitcoin for $US6000, and sell it for $US7000, that is a gain of $US1000 when you sell it, not before.  But if you MINE 1 bitcoin for that is 1 BTC of pure income. Not the same.  If you sit on that mined bitcoin until it is worth $US10000, and sell it, that is pure income of $US10000, but not until you exchange it for USD.  IOW, the price in US$ of BTC when you actually acquire it has no effect on your cost to acquire.

The actual direct cost to mine BTC is zero, it is found money. I bought my miners with USD, and I pay my electricity bill with USD. I can deduct those expenses against my mining revenue, but only after the revenue is converted from BTC into USD,  regardless of what the price was at the time I "found" the bitcoin.  Hopefully I can continue pay the bills from other sources until the BTC price increases to something worthwhile.

The BTC cost for MINING is likely zero.  The cost for TRADING is whatever you paid and sold it for in US$. If you are doing both mining and trading, my suggestion would be to keep separate wallets for each activity.

Not true at all.  Mining does cost money, you can write off power, machines, hosting, etc...

Now we're getting off-topic, so back to MINING ON WITH KANO-SAN!

You are correct. This has turned from a simple question, into alot of speculative responses. I just wanted the info for recording keeping, in the event the IRS decides to pull the wool down over unsuspecting eyes. The information on hand, would be ALOT easier to see, than having to go back and dig up.

Goodluck to us ALL!!! C'mon BTClock!!!
310  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [145+PH] KanoPool kano.is 7 BTC giveaway 🐈 US,NL,JP,NYA,DE,SG on: April 08, 2018, 03:44:40 PM
Current usd price at time of payment is something i would really like as well. To report, need 2 numbers. The first number is usd at time u recieved the coin. This instant you earned income, so tax man needs a usd number to tax it. Then need the usd price sold at. The diffence between these prices is taxed at either short term or long term capital gains, depending on how long u held.
Disclosure so u cant sue me... Im not accountant, this not financial advice. However, this is how my accountant told me to do it.

What I am doing is not counting it as income at all until it converts to USD. IOW, it doesn't matter to me what the price was when it was mined. Only when I convert it to $.  As long as it sits in BTC, it is not recognized as income to me.  Nobody else has any way of knowing about it until it converts.  Six months of records distilled down to a single entry in Quickbooks (at the current exchange rate, it might be a lot longer <sheesh>).  Kano and the other pools are not tracked or monitored by the authorities, only the exchanges.

I can understand where your coming from, but personally I want to leave no stone unturned, when it comes to maximizing my profits.

The United States taxes BTC as a capital gain, I believe. The price of BTC when you receive it is important. If you ignore that number, they will tax you at it's price when you convert,  instead of when you received. As of right now the price is around  $7000usd. Long term miners, like myself, do not convert at this price. Unless Forced too. Cashing out rewards at this price is going to be a waste of profit.

So, keeping the 1st number, and correlating that against monthly cost of equipment and electricity, when converting can give me
a more accurate "starting point" for the amount of capital gains they will tax.

I do fully understand pools are not looked at, and exchanges are, but there is a percentage of the Rewards that get charged to receive
the Rewards. Pool fees. That is also an important number you have to consider. It is a COST you have to pay to receive your rewards.
There is also an exchange percentage you need to capture. These are ALL important numbers. Get the most out of your earnings.

Also, thank you cryptostarusa!!!

Just a side note for anyone with the bad hash board...... or thought to be one..

I vacuumed today, vacuum power head came near the power cords of two miners in my office.  AND those two had  one at 0.00 Gh/s and the other at 8.5 Th/s.   Seems as if this issue with static electricity screws them up.  This also happens when I stepped on the cords with my socks that had static.

I know, sounds dumb, but it literally happens every time.

Static electricity is an equipment killer. It's the reason why compressed air in a can probably still exists. It's also highly recommended
to "ground" yourself while handling electronic devices and equipment, such as miners. New Egg and Amazon have "grounds" for a few dollars.

Note: Do Not rub any balloons on your head before preventative maintenance on your miners!!! Ha!!!
313  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: April 07, 2018, 07:13:33 PM
So far I have not yet seen any Halong customers showing factory specs on their T1's. Only Halong insiders seem to have rigs with factory specs  Roll Eyes

That's because the only ones showing anything are, vloggers and hype pushers on social media. Not exactly the type of
"Hardware Hounds" who would know anything about specs. They are just part of the Promotion Pump team. Bottom line.
Halongmining is going to great measures, to show off their "in spec" equipment, and pushing reviews from asshats with
1000's of followers. Most of whom, were pushing ICO's before becoming Halongmining Representatives. All the while,
Un-experienced users flock towards the flame, unknowingly like Moths to a bug zapper. This whole shenanigan totally
reeks of Lost Money and the terrible media, for Bitcoin, that will follow.

can i use one 841 without the auc3?

I don't think you can. The auc3 has 2 different cables to connect from the 841 to the raspberry controller. Also, be sure to get a usb to mini usbdata cable. The usb charging cables won't work correctly.
316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner]- Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 5000 miners on: April 06, 2018, 09:20:52 PM
Having an issue with AvalonMiner 841 and  Awesome Miner connection with the 841's API.

I set the W:192.xxx.xx.xxx in cgminer, and Awesome Miner can connect. However, every few minutes, it disconnects for a minute.
It reconnects, with 0 hour/min uptime and does so over and over. While I have the API access set, cgminer shows no info, but when
I reset the API to default and disconnect from AM, the uptime is correct. The 841 is running the entire time, showing no disconnection
from my pool.

Should the API access ip be entered differently?

My other miners, not AvalonMiners, are having no issues with AM at all during this issue. My AM is up to date as well. TIA!!!
Are the miners on the same local network? If not, it might be that you need to increase the API connection timeout a bit. Even if on the local network, it could be that these Avalon miners are a bit slow in their responses sometimes. Please go to Options dialog, Advanced section and increase "Miner API connection timeout".

They are all on the same network. I'll give your suggestion a try. Thank you!

A question. How did you made web link out of signature?

You have to be a "member" for that privilege I believe. Although, it may be different now. Every "rank" has different privileges with
signature properties. Member Ranks and Privileges

Just change the url to the url you want, and "like this" to the words you choose.

Quick question everyone. When ramping up: if a user loses a few hrs of time from powerloss/other reasons, does the ramp start over???

I personally had this happen at about 5 days in, and I didn't have to restart the ramp. However, I'm not sure if this has been changed.
Someone asked me about this, and I'd like to answer as accurate as possible.
