They have the right to choose if other individuals may carry weapons onto their property, but by denying them that ability, they are taking responsibility for their defense while on their property. In a public space, or a space not owned by the individual, no such ability exists.

There is no implied agreement of protection when an person is allowed to enter a private property (in this case, a school). Unless the owner explicit offers the protection, the property owner do not have any moral obligation to defend an person from an physical threat. However, the person have the full right to react as he/she thinks necessary in face of any physical threat.

If you take away my ability to defend myself, you are taking the responsibility for that duty. You may not see it that way, but that is the truth of the matter.

nobody is taking anything away from you. just dont enter that private property if you dont agree to the terms. i thought ancap is all about voluntary contracts...

the word duty shouldnt even be in the vocabulary of any ancap-believer.

@chefin

@2weix

i voted option 1.
i dont feel that protecting some items of mediocre value is worth getting into a firefight. if robberies were a real problem in my neighborhood, i would get insurance and just hop out the window. or better yet, move to a different neighborhood.
same goes for the robber btw. property crimes are not associated with long jail time in germany, so killing some guy to eliminate the remote chance that you are identified would be really really stupid. if i were a robber i certainly would not carry a firearm either.
304  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A charge against states or "statism" on: December 21, 2012, 11:24:15 AM
in germany, a country of 82 million people, the whole police force fired 36 shots total last year, resulting in 6 deaths.

ergo: sorry, i really dont feel like the target audience for this kind of propaganda  Wink

For example I dont know of any mass shootings in New Hampshire.

dont you need a mass for mass shootings?  Wink
306  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Dear Radical Leftists... on: December 21, 2012, 03:44:12 AM
How about responding to the argument?

what argument specifically?

btw: the guy says "his side" is the one being always open to debate while also saying god himself gave him the right to bear arms. what exactly is there left to discuss with such a person?
307  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Dear Radical Leftists... on: December 21, 2012, 02:45:06 AM
the guy is stupid, ignorant and paranoid... and not even in an entertaining way.
and judging by his gestures and facial expression he also has serious anger issues.

Culture and history are integral to any solution, certainly.

America has an estimated 300 million guns within its borders.

If, hypothetically, all those guns were rounded up and eliminated, criminals and the mentally ill absolutely would have reduced access to guns.

However, outside that scenario, any amount of gun limiting can negatively impact lawful citizens while not materially impacting access to criminals and mentally ill.

in a way, you are saying that the usa is, regarding guns, fucked up beyond repair. i can agree on that.
310  Other / Off-topic / Re: Gun free zone on: December 20, 2012, 04:05:49 PM
The opinion of a survivor of one of these mass shootings should carry some weight, yeah?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEJFAvA-ZUE

actually quite the opposite.
how can the most biased opinion possible further a rational discussion?

oh wait...what rational discussion?  Wink

311  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Mental illness is most likely a fiction on: December 19, 2012, 03:03:29 AM
He's not denying that the conditions exist. What he is denying is that they are illnesses. A more accurate term would be injury.

how is that even relevant as long as he doesnt point out what implications that distinction should have, in his opinion?
312  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Mental illness is most likely a fiction on: December 18, 2012, 10:35:26 PM
maybe you should make another sockpuppet before you run out of list space. plus its always better to multi-ignore people.

ahhh, i totally forgot about that one. if anyone has a leftover bundle, i would gladly take it.

a) Data for developing countries is really unreliable unless you collect it yourself. Do you believe those numbers for Haiti, Somalia, and North Korea? Who the hell measures homicide in these countries.
This is UN Data. I'm inclined to believe it is at the very least, unbiased.
Also: LOL@ North Korea being considered a "developing nation."

you really think the UN checks data from somalia or north korea?

Quote
b) There are too many other differences between the units of observation for country-level comparisons to be meaningful. Ideally, you should pick units that are as similar as possible except for differences in gun ownership.
Per capita is per capita, there's no difference there. If you want number of guns per 100 000 persons, just multiply the second dataset's numbers by 1000. Similarly, to get murders per 100 citizens, divide the first numbers by 1000.

the same way you could prove that cannonballs arent more dangerous projetiles than plush bunnies. just include samples in which the cannonballs were thrown by little girls and the plush bunnies were fired by cannons. do some research into how statistics are interpreted properly.

I don't know where you got that from, I really don't. Typical fornit logic, I guess. I say, "Oh, look, this 20 year old broke a law that was supposed to keep him from having guns. Shame laws only work if you're law-abiding." You hear, "We should give the kids guns." LOLWUT?

Yeah, her not having guns would have meant he didn't get her guns. Would it have meant he didn't get any guns? No. And if you think he couldn't have gotten guns somewhere, think again. If you want a gun, you can find one, and the dude behind the convenience store doesn't do background checks.

well, in germany there are no gun dealers behind convinience stores. getting an illegal firearm is not a trivial thing for most people.

give me a break, i just read 140 posts and didnt intend to do it again, so i just asked. honestly, i think the people advocating NAP are a crowd so aggressive....well, i wouldnt trust bitware, rudd-o or you with a plastic knife...
317  Other / Off-topic / Re: Gun free zone on: December 16, 2012, 09:09:47 PM
but not having any firearms in the house would have worked in both cases.

btw: did you really advocate that the kids in school themselves should carry firearms for protection?
318  Other / Off-topic / Re: Gun free zone on: December 16, 2012, 08:54:51 PM
i would just like to add that bringing up the winnenden massacre as an example that this kind of situations can also occur when private firearms are prohibited is extremely weird. the shooter used one of his fathers  legally owned firearms, who could obtain it legally as a member of a gun sports club.
there where several killings with very similar circumstances in germany over the years and the fact that gun sports is still a bit of a tradition in parts of the country is basically the only reason the laws are not stricter by now.
319  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BitcoinStore.com (Beta) - Electronics super store with over 500K items! on: December 15, 2012, 10:29:49 PM
how can you search inside a category?

btw: still very slow
