3021  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Unbelievable amount of misinformation about Bitcoin on: May 14, 2015, 08:54:30 PM
I can't believe someone actually make this type of comment. Well, Satoshi Nakamoto is a common name in Japan..

Really?

https://www.google.com/webhp?ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=7lg7VcHwDIjYU5OugsAN#q=Satoshi+Nakamoto

Tell me how many Satoshis you can find.....

I did this same search around 2 years ago and our Satoshi wasn't the only one listed. Perhaps all the hype around Bitcoin and the newseek article have affected the search rankings. A similar search on Facebook turns up quite a lot of results.

I think both Satoshi and Nakamoto are common names in Japan. But you may find more hits under "Sato", a short version. I spent time in 08-09 in Japan and learned a bit about the language. I may be wrong, but let me take a stab at this name.

聡 中本
The first name "聡" means something like wisdom. Like the word Sophia in Greek. The surname "中本" is made from two characters. The first one is ment to show a line going inside of a mouth. It is used to imply "inside of". The second character is a tree that has it's roots emphasized. It implies roots or the origin of something. It is also in the word for Japan (日本). See it at the end? Here it is combined with the character for the sun. So Japan means "the origin of the Sun", or the land of the rising sun.
So Satoshi Nakamoto could be interpreted to mean "Wisdom from within the roots" or maybe "wisdom originating from within". Its difficult because, unlike alphabetical languages, one must glean the meaning from what is implied rather than spelled out.
3022  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs Apple Pay on: May 14, 2015, 08:31:49 PM
I see no debate. Apple pay is a slightly different implementation of credit cards. There is nothing new about it. Bitcoin is a fundamentally different technology and an order of magnitude faster, cheaper, and more secure.

You are forgetting the most important thing:
Bitcoin is decentralized whereas Apple Pay is very centralized.

Amen brother. That is the key difference. If I can't control it, then I don't want anyone to control it.
3023  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Satoshi Nakamoto" is an anagram for a secret NSA op on: May 14, 2015, 08:20:24 PM
Top secret operations do not use cute little anagrams. I's not a contest that drops hints.

Open your eyes bro, that's just what they want you to think. ...

THEY? This is something you made up this morning, lol.

now if you want a real code breaking challenge you may be interested in this:

Codes and breaking them is real spycraft, but it ain't easy. And since it tends to be a natural ability more than a learned skill agencies are always on the lookout for young talent.

Guilty as charged  Cheesy I'm procrastinating from what I really have to get done this morning, which is draft and send a demand letter to a pre-paid debit card company that closed my account and is trying to get out of sending me a check for the account balance. Making up conspiracy theories is much more fun than threatening to sue crooked banks  Grin
Ya know I always wished I was good at code breaking. It is interesting, but I'm also not good at math or other related things. It is also interesting to me that math and code breaking is best done by young people. In math you are washed up at 30. Almost all great discoveries in math are made by people in their 20's or younger.

3025  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why you hate jews and american on: May 14, 2015, 05:45:27 PM
I don't know who you are talking to, but the reason anyone hates a group is because they are broken people who do not have the capacity to let go of hate. They are typically cry babies who want someone to pity them rather than point out that their failings are due to their own actions. Wa wa wa, look how shitty my life is and it's all because the _______'s did this to me. Rather than get off their ass and do something they are inclined to wine about what other people are doing. At least that has been what I have seen.

1. get source code
2. do a find and replace (bitcoin > newcoin)
3. compile! You are now the creator of newcoin.

 Cheesy

Thank you for your answer, but I really would like to create something with some new feature and not just a copy/paste.  Smiley
I was kidding a bit. But that is the start of creating an alt coin. Most alts are not adopted by very many people. However, it is a great way to learn about blockchain technology and how all these crypto-coins work.

You may want to look at Satoshi's white paper also. You may have already, but if not you can find a link in my sig just below this post where it says "the gospel according to Satoshi".

I think we need to weave "time travelers" into the narrative. That's another funny internet phenomena. Maybe we can't find Satoshi because he has not been born yet!!!!!! Or he was a mathematically gifted daimyo in feudal Japan!!!

3030  Economy / Speculation / Re: There will always be trolls, and they will spout foolish nonsense all the way up on: May 13, 2015, 09:25:49 PM
Stop hating on BTCeanie BTCabies and educate urself! BTCeanies work on the same principle as BTCit coin: artificial scarcity:
"The company's strategy of deliberate scarcity, producing each new design in limited quantity, restricting individual store shipments to limited numbers of each design and regularly retiring designs, created a huge secondary market for the toys and increased their popularity and value as a collectible."- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beanie_Babies
As a matter of fact, Satoshi stole the idea from the inventor of BTCeanie BTCabies.

And another thing: Guess if it was BTCeanies or BTCit coins that lost 3/4 of their value over the past year and a half?

Go ahead, guess!
Ah there is an actual argument. Are bitcoins like beanie babies in terms of their financial performance?
You correctly point out the flaw in "investing" in beanie babies. Since they are issued by a central authority the supply could be infinite. There are also problems with fungibility, but unknown supply is enough to preclude them from use as a currency of any kind. This was the same problem that led to the Tulip mania in Europe.
This problem is solved by Satoshi because the supply is known to all and is unchangeable. There will never be 21 million coins. Almost, but not quite. The rate of production is also known and comes to about 3600 per day at our current block reward. With bitcoin there is no "company" to manipulate anything. The loss of value of bitcoin is to be expected in a highly speculative market. Speculators guess, some too high. Then it falls back to Earth. Again and again and again.
3031  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoins investing risks on: May 13, 2015, 09:11:00 PM
I think that's a good list OP. I might add a "black swan" sort of risk. That is to say that an unknown flaw or exploit in the protocol could emerge. Or some other, as yet unconsidered, event. Perhaps a dramatic change in the free and open use of the internet? It's not risk free.

3033  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is it legal to run LocalBitcoins type platform as a proprietorship firm ? on: May 13, 2015, 09:02:43 PM
Yes, sellers are taxable and if they make big sales, they are to be licensed to do so. Just like most sellers on Amazon have their own trade license. If authority asks the trade details of a seller, LocalBitcoins will probably reveal that. Illegal service ad is always a problem for web ad platforms. Not only CraigList, but also eBay to OLX, everyone faced this problem. If someone tries to sell Drug against bitcoin on LocalBitcoins, then they'll come under investigation. But, none of these stops an entity to legally operate as a propritorship firm.
Hey thank you for that clarification.  Smiley

It's funny right.  Cheesy
One guy arguing with everyone and trying to look like he is part of a group of like minded accounts. Wana see something hilarious ask him to place his money where his mouth is and bet. then it's all crickets and excuses.
3036  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is it legal to run LocalBitcoins type platform as a proprietorship firm ? on: May 13, 2015, 08:32:32 PM
I think you could structure a sole proprietorship, but that is when your problems start. In the U.S. I think you will need to get a money transmitter license. It varies state to state, but it can run into the millions of dollars in some states. Its an unholy system to keep the little man out of banking. (you and I are little men). If you could come up with a system that transfers the liability and licensing requirements to another party, then maybe there is a way to get in the revenue stream with limited exposure to regulation.

AFAIK, direct trading exchanges like LocalBitcoins do not need any license to opearate as they do not touch FIAT themselves. They operate as an advertising platform similar to craiglist.
Ah, so are the sellers using the site technically the taxable entities? That makes sense, but I would worry about what happens when they refuse to pay. Would I as a business be required to report their sales? I don't know? But I know Craigslist has spent a lot of time in court because many early users were advertising prostitution services.
I hope someone can find a way through this. I think it is a good business if you can get there.

It's no surprise to me that the price has gone up.  Huh

Bitcoin price never goes up. In 10 years once we look at the all time graphic the logarithmic progression will show nothing but gains and the 1K peak will be nothing but a small bump, rendering as complete retarded anyone that didn't buy insane amounts of sub 1K BTC when they had the time to do so.

I disagree. It's like saying anyone who didn't buy winning lottery tickets for the draw last week is a retard. The numbers are obviously __,__,__,__,__,__.

Yeah, you know the result now, but you had no way of knowing it last week. It's the same with bitcoin. Vancouver is a pretty good city in terms of bitcoin, having the world's first bitcoin ATM and stuff like that. As such, I heard about bitcoin a long, long time ago. But I don't really regret not buying it then; because at that point in time, it really was uncertain what bitcoin was, and in all likelihood it would've died. The amount of knowledge I had back then meant that not buying was the correct choice.

You have a great point in there man! If I had sold all my possessions in 2010 and put it all in bitcoin then I would be very rich right now and some would think me a financial whiz kid. In reality I would be a lucky fool.
3039  Economy / Speculation / Re: No volume Bull-Traps on: May 13, 2015, 08:06:48 PM
Why do newbies hate bitcoin so much? Did you get in at the peak and full of loathing now ?

Even if you buy at the top in December 2013, Bitcoin gave you a lot of chance to recover your loss. So, I don't think it's about that. They just don't know how to make money in bear market.

Yes I also don't really think its because that either to be fair.

Maybe paid to spread fud ?

Or Maybe just loves trolling ?

Or a little minnow who actually believes these comments can move the market LOL

I wonder about motives also. Some have claimed to be paid to spread FUD, but I'm not so sure. Anyone who is making a serious and expensive attempt to move sentiment by spreading FUD would quickly see that it is not cost effective. So I don't think they would continue to pay trolls.

Our troll who cerates these accounts daily often posts with a lot of anger. That could point to anger over a foolish loss. Perhaps that is a motivation? Or maybe its just a drama queen? The energy in some peoples life has to come from others, because they themselves do very little worth being excited over.  Or something else?
Whatever it is these threads clearly do not show any actual belief that bitcoin is in trouble. They know bitcoin is crushing it. If they were sincere and responded to counter-arguments, I would be inclined to listen.
