3341  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin immune to inflation? on: December 13, 2013, 04:17:29 AM
i would think that fiat currency's strength is based on consumer confidence. if the government were to force businesses into accepting its own cryptocurrencies, a lot of people would be pissed off and alarmed. the backlash wouldn't be worth the risk... especially considering that it would still probably be volatile (maybe not as bad as BTC though).
3342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: if you want btc to succeed start dumping your iDevices/Apple on: December 13, 2013, 04:11:11 AM
I have used Iphone for a while, JB'd , and never updated past 5.0....I am kinda having enough though....I also have a android device 10.1 note, mainly for the pen.....

I am sorta over apple a  bit in relation to the Iphone, the screen size for one....and this anti btc stance, well it seems draconian, I mean there's no regulation/law against view info about BTC through the apps, yet the app store kicks some of even them off.

Also I note that the Iphone looses randomly data in the sync process, (and always the important file) as it seems to have different rules for what updates what.

I almost feel were back in 1984 - 1990 where apple lost it market share to wintel. Now Apple is looseing market share to  GoogSung, (or RoidSam if you prefer) and they sorta haven learnt from last time. Im mean thats ok they make more margin per device and the whole ecology thing does mean it just works alot of the time, but they have some systemic floors. Eg my MPB can fry and egg over the power cable /logic board area, and what I had to do to get actual >dual boot (tri-boot) and with more than two partions, and not use bootcamp was insane.

wasn't it IBM? the hilarious thing was that in 1984, applie implied that people were sheep, and to liberate themselves, they should buy apple prodcuts. today, the opposite is true.
3343  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 13, 2013, 03:52:14 AM

whoa nice.. the more and more money that gets into BTC, the better for all of us  Grin
3344  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin immune to inflation? on: December 13, 2013, 03:49:24 AM
because the government can't force people to accept its own version of bitcoin.
3345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tipping bartenders and waiters etc with mBTC on: December 13, 2013, 03:46:28 AM
My gf is a waitress and in school, and if someone tipped her in bitcoins i would be furious, she has no way to use that. Its bullshit you try and push what you use on other people, forcibly. It's no different than going to another country and forcing them to take your currency and not use the local currency. Its a bunch of crap. If you can pay for the meal in fiat, pay for the service in it. Don't leave someone hanging on bitcoin because you think you're clever, you are only fucking them over. People pay for their lives in fiat, her university sure is hell not going to take bitcoin, nor should she or anyone else without their chosing. They dont need some shit they cant use making it more complex. Use legal tender.

it's a tip, it's free money, be happy about it.

also, there are schools that do in fact accept bitcoin asa tution fee, your argument is invalid. (also, her WAGES should cover her expenses, not her TIPS)

Most waiter's / waitress' gets paid bellow min wage and their tips are used to compensate. Unless they work in one of those fancy restaurants where you pay 40 dollars for a salad, this is most likely the case.

Well who's fault is this? The customer, the restaurant owner, or the one accepting a job with less than minimum wage?

yeah, i think that's the american system.. whether we get good service or bad, we are expected to tip our server.. i think it was an idea by the restaurants to create these rules so they can nickle and dime their employees. fuck them.
3346  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nicolas Cary CEO Blockchain.info [video interview] on: December 13, 2013, 03:41:45 AM
We serve 3-4M bitcoin users a day. On the wallet side 70,000-700,000 in 2013. Nicolas Cary CEO Blockchain.info [video interview] http://www.iamsatoshi.com/exploring-blockchain/

Are there 4 million bitcoin users in the whole world?
Cause this is a thing I am ready to NOT believe.

i doubt that as well.. he probably meant 4 million hits per day. that would probably make a lot more sense.
3347  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is JPM Preparing To Unveil Its Own Electronic Currency? on: December 13, 2013, 03:38:16 AM
How can they patent something that's already existing and being used.

well, because they patented it first apparently. i guess that's how patent rules work.
3348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is Bitcoin's next catalyst for growth ? on: December 13, 2013, 03:32:30 AM
bitcoin is so strange.. it's unique in that it has many of the elements that other assets don't have. it just has so many qualities that it's hard for me to make a prediction.
3349  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: where to buy BTC on: December 13, 2013, 03:29:52 AM
the only way to buy something with paypal is through localbitcoins, but it's a bad idea. paypal doesn't seem quite friendly to BTC.

try coinbase. i have heard of bad stories about them, but in my personal experience, it was pretty decent.
3350  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: if you want btc to succeed start dumping your iDevices/Apple on: December 13, 2013, 03:26:55 AM
I want to get rid of my iphone. What do people suggest as a replacement? I Was a bug Nokia fan back in the day, but haven't had one for years.
Stop focusing on the brand and start looking at the operative system and the hardware.

I never said I was focusing on brand. I just asked for suggestions for alternatives to iPhones.

probably not a good time to buy a new phone, as the more popular models are kind of around the corner. i really like the HTC one though, along with the galaxy s4. i'd choose the htc one right now though.
3351  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Coinbase be Americas Major Exchange? on: December 13, 2013, 03:21:13 AM
i don't know much about the exchanges, but i like their design and style the most. the staff is public and the design on their site is much, much, much better than any other site i've seen. it's basic and to the point.
3352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is JPM Preparing To Unveil Its Own Electronic Currency? on: December 13, 2013, 03:19:33 AM
a fork would be pretty interesting.. we'd be able to see what the underpinnings of bitcoin support is about. is it so great because it's a new form of money, or because it's a way to say "fuck you" to fiat?
3353  Other / Off-topic / Re: Save This Child's Life - URGENT!!! NO DONATIONS. JUST A SIGNATURE on: December 13, 2013, 03:16:24 AM
btw, have you tried posting it on reddit? that might get more than enough signatures. it's possibly front page material right there. if that were the case, you'd end up getting well over 100,000 votes.
3354  Other / Off-topic / Re: Silkroad 2.0 on: December 12, 2013, 09:16:29 AM
i've heard some stories where the postal service will send an undercover agent and ask for your signature.. that's how the prove it, apparently.

Even if we give our signature, we can claim that we have no idea about the contents in the package. Can't we?

i don't know.. you have something in signature that you are accepting the goods. here's a discussion on reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/SilkRoad/comments/1b4e3l/
3355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Max Keiser Piss Anyone Else Off? on: December 12, 2013, 09:03:49 AM
i like what he says, but i also don't like his style. he just seems kind of like a douchebag. ultimately, i think he's in bitcoin more for himself, and he's just using anger from the general public to push bitcoin along and build his exposure.
3356  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price at end of 2014? on: December 12, 2013, 08:55:38 AM
I think it will reach $2000 dollars. People will begin to adopt and trust bitcoins, and the price will rise accordingly. I do not see a huge growth spurt however until far into the future. There are just too many people who adopted low that will sell once the value reaches a certain point and they have made the profits they want to that will continually hold bitcoins back from growing even further.

don't know what you define growth spurt as, but i really doubt it can grow 100 fold next year as it did this year.. but 10 fold is a reasonable number.
3357  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: $5000 by May, 2013 on: December 12, 2013, 08:46:20 AM
anyone could make any random guess for a number.. some reasoning as to why it might or might not happen is needed too.

and you're already wrong, since in may 2013, the price was around $100 (i think).
3358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin gets a mention on The Colbert Report (12/10/13) on: December 12, 2013, 08:39:01 AM
Did anyone see it? It was on his "The Word" segment. it's crazy how within months it went into the mainstream.

actually, there was a mention of it in april.
3359  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price at end of 2014? on: December 12, 2013, 08:33:00 AM
Looks to me that bitcoin keeps trying to get above $1000 and then losing support. I think we may have to wait at least a few more months for the infrastructure to grow a new price foundation before we get any serious growth in prices again.

So basically guessing around $950.

That being said, I am wrong more than I am right. Which is why I only buy and hold. I am good at investing (seeing the fundamentals), terrible at speculating (anticipating herd behavior).

this is what im thinking too. the gunslingers are waiting to see some sort of news. if we stabilize near $1,000 i'm quite happy though.
3360  Other / Off-topic / Re: Save This Child's Life - URGENT!!! NO DONATIONS. JUST A SIGNATURE on: December 12, 2013, 08:28:39 AM
Guys, I respect your views.
However, please don't make this a discussion thread whethe you believe in it or not.
I'm sure the parents and doctors have spoken about it greatly and this really is the last resort.
In addition, I'm certain the parents wouldn't force anything on their dying son without discussing it with him first. Yes he's 6, but he understands that's he's sick, and I'm pretty sure he's able to make a decision over a small chance he has of living and dying.
THIS IS NOT AN APPEAL.
$92k has already been donated for his treatment.
Whether you believe in it or not, this is the child's only hope, and I'm sure if anyone here was in the same or similar situation (which should never happen), I'm sure you'd all do the same.

Thanks

well, if you want people to sign the petition, and they are discussing about the validity of what the petition is for.. i think it's proper to mention.
