3361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why should I use Bitcoin instead of Paypal? on: December 12, 2013, 08:25:31 AM
there are many reasons paypal sucks

there are many reasons bitcoins is better.

but i can only think of one reason to use paypal, which is Ebay's vast product range. and that is it.

once ebay drops paypal and uses a crypto currency as its backbone system for value storage, thus removing the requirement of servers, databases etc(saving ebay money). paypal will be useless

once? you do know that ebay owns paypal right? no one's going to shoot themselves in the leg, at least voluntarily.

What are the legal issues if your package gets intercepted by the postal system?  I guess you cant really be charged can you?  No proof that you actually purchased it?

Just say you never ordered it. Unless they can prove otherwise, there's nothing they can legally do. Anybody could ship drugs to your address.

i've heard some stories where the postal service will send an undercover agent and ask for your signature.. that's how the prove it, apparently.
3363  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does wikipedia remind of you the beggards on this forum? on: December 12, 2013, 07:35:14 AM
i wasn't clear about that.. i don't have a problem with wikipedia soliciting for donations. but it's just that they are too dumb or lazy to actually try out BTC. i mean they could get it converted to fiat easily, but they still won't do it.
3364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tipping bartenders and waiters etc with mBTC on: December 12, 2013, 07:31:54 AM
if i had a lot of coins, i'd do this. and i'd remind them of the stories of people who had bitcoins, but lost track of them.. and ended up losing millions of dollars because, at the time, they thought it wasnt' worth much.
3365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why should I use Bitcoin instead of Paypal? on: December 12, 2013, 07:30:00 AM
my friend transferred  about 2.6 million dollars  worth of BTC to singapore for a property deal
for like 60cents and took about an hour to get the 6 confirmations

imagine what that would have costed through regular banking  and how much  longer it would have taken   ?

was he sweating that he somehow sent it to the wrong address, or that somehow the coins wouldn't be there? what is bitcoin's pro is also its con, but i'll take it over paypal or any other junk corporation any day.
3366  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-12-10 Bitcoin Proves The Libertarian Idea Of Paradise Would Be Hell On Eart on: December 12, 2013, 07:22:14 AM
While their reasoning is a little simplistic, they do have a point! ;-)

to me, anarchistic ideology is a bit too simplistic. i get a lot of retorts, when they can't respond to my assertions, of "well government does that too." it's like saying you want to replace a faulty system with a faulty system.

oh, and "arming everyone with guns" is probably not going to be a panacea for world issues. someone told me that in doing so, you could prevent a big player from militarily overtaking certain regions.
3367  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2013-12-09] Video - Meet 'Bitcoin Jesus': This Is My Life's Calling on: December 12, 2013, 07:19:27 AM
i thought this guy was going to give BTC to poor people so they can eat.. not bitcoin the religion.
3368  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price at end of 2014? on: December 12, 2013, 07:17:33 AM
i think that by the end of 2014, at least a few major retailers will have adopted BTC as a form of payment.. and wall streeters will have poured their money into BTC. so i'm going to be a bit conservative, with these assumptions assumed, at around $5,000. that's just my uneducated guess though, what the hell do i know?
3369  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2013-12-12] Video - PAUL KRUGMAN: Bitcoin's Value Is Driven By The Fact That .. on: December 12, 2013, 07:14:51 AM
this is the kind of thing that someone who does not understand something says. along with "it's not a good investment since government doesn't back it." it's actually the opposite.. it's a good investment because government DOESNT back it.
3370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SecondMarket CEO: Wall Street will put 'hundreds of Millions' into Bitcoin on: December 12, 2013, 06:51:33 AM
how does this even work anyways? do the funds sit in a wallet? in that case, who has access to the wallet and pw? couldn't someone just transfer that money out to their own wallet, and no one would know?
3371  Economy / Economics / Re: JP Morgon Currency will fail and act as a ponzi for more control on: December 12, 2013, 06:47:14 AM
at this point, i'm not sure if even the wall street guys will even trust chase.. they have to know that whatever chase does, it is for its own benefit.
3372  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2013-12-10] Bitcoin mentioned on The Simpsons on: December 12, 2013, 06:45:16 AM
I stopped watching the Simpsons when they started replacing jokes with references to ipads, ipods, (insert latest gadget here). Desperately trying to "keep up with the kidz" does not equate to comedy. Now if Peter Griffin got hold of some bitcoins, that's a different story  Grin

i stopped watching family guy 1 season after they came back. some of the gags are good, but i don't know.. it's a lot of non-sequitor humor, and i may be a little elitist when i say this, but a lot of dumb people make family guy references and think they are very smart.

but yeah, if there's a reference to bitcoins on the simpsons, you know you've made it to the mainstream.

Oh for fuck's sake

You either laugh at the jokes or you dont.

Just because dumb ppl get the jokes doesnt mean the jokes are dumb

And yes you sound like a smartass if you think a joke has to be smart to be funny.

GTFO, bitcoin is too dumb for you.

i never said family guy jokes are dumb. i just i've seen not so bright people use the reasoning of "you have smart taste, you like family guy." family guy references/jokes are okay with me though, but they are basically non-sequitor pop reference jokes.

I know lots of smart people, and by and large, they all like family guy. I also know lots of dumb people, and they "don't get it". Doesn't prove anything, just an observation. Monty python was full of non-sequitors ....... probably most influential comedy of the last 40 years. If u don't find it that funny, don't watch it. Its not really something worth arguing over is it.

well, i wasn't the one raising arms over the issue. i don't know the numbers, sure, but i wouldn't be surprised if smart people liked family guy.. but from my anecdotal standpoint, a lot of potheads watch it and pass it off as "smart comedy." but hey, to each his own.
3373  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 12, 2013, 06:33:47 AM
has anyone realized how lopsided btc china is? when is there going to be competition there? that exchange by itself, when it's daytime there and night here, is bigger than every other exchanged combined.. that's nuts.
3374  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 12, 2013, 06:10:30 AM
MtGox really sliding down the ranks:

exchange     volume %   volume ฿       last price
bitstamp   35.9%   29710.3   865.4 USD
btce          29.8%   24640.5   848.0 USD
mtgox       24.8%   20525.1   902.5 USD

https://bitcoinaverage.com/#USD|nomillibit

score.. they are trailing behind bitstamp by about 9 million. i love when this happens, as the onus is on them to improve their system.
3375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: if you want btc to succeed start dumping your iDevices/Apple on: December 12, 2013, 06:09:09 AM
that's a really easy task for me.. i don't have to do anything. i've never owned any apple products, except for 2 weeks with a second hand 1st gen iphone, which i sold and bought a galaxy s with.
3376  Other / Off-topic / Re: Save This Child's Life - URGENT!!! NO DONATIONS. JUST A SIGNATURE on: December 12, 2013, 06:05:34 AM
i was a bit lazy to do it, but then i felt bad for being too lazy to click on "forgot my password" and type my email in. i doubt the white house will really do anything, unless they are desperate for PR. still though, better to sign it than not. you might want to create a topic on reddit too, you could possibly get well over 100,000 signatures.

this is mentioned quite often.. it sure would be fun as hell to go to mars, but it doesn't seem realistic for this to happen within our lifetime.
3379  Other / Off-topic / Re: Guys, it's almost Christmas! on: December 12, 2013, 05:11:24 AM
snow is nice and all, but damn i do not like extreme cold temperatures.. i'm starting to prefer hot summers over extreme cold winters. then again, who am i to complain? i'm from california  Cheesy
3380  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sell your apple stocks now, war is amoung us on: December 12, 2013, 03:52:42 AM
sorry, i don't mean to offend anyone, and while i do admit apple is great with design.. they want to tell you what to like, what to want. i feel like a sheep enjoying their products. and they all look the damn same. still better than most android phones.. at least aesthetically.
