I'm able to retrieve transaction data from block 100001 Just as easily as I am able to get it from the latest block 609375:  And I'm running on an old i5 3570K, 8 Gigs RAM with block storage on an old HDD!  If you're still getting serialization errors, then chances are good that your block storage is corrupted. I can only recommend wiping everything (excluding your wallet.dat of course) and resyncing from the beginning and seeing if you are still getting serialization issues. If you continue to get them after a full wipe (blocks and chainstate etc) and resync, then it's highly likely to be a hardware issue of some description (bad RAM?) that is causing your problems. It also seems, that the command only works on transactions that are fairly new. The older the transaction is, the smaller probability for the command to work. Probably a stupid question... but you haven't accidentally enabled "pruning" have you?  |

Oh damn... I never would have seen either of those 2...   If you use the "," and "." keys, you can scroll a paused YouTube video forward and backwards a frame at a time. That's what I did to find them all.

There are actually 2 other instances where Electrum will not store the seed in the wallet file, so the menu item is gray.
1. if you are using a "2FA" (Two Factor Authentication) wallet.
2. If you created the wallet using the "BIP39 seed" option.

Sadly, you're not likely to be able to get your cake and eat it too.  You'll likely end up needing to do KYC to go the quick and easy route with an established exchange that has reasonable fees and fast transfer times... or you'll take massive risks of getting scammed by dealing with private individuals offering "low margins"... or, for established, trustworthy individuals, you'll likely find they have larger margins. It's a bit of a "Time - Cost - Quality" Triangle situation.... but it would be "Low Risk - Low Fee - No KYC"... pick two. |

The problem is... where do you draw the line? For instance, what about people linking to news stories on news websites that contain advertisements (and/or referral links)? Should we prevent people from doing this too? I don't think it is something that we can (nor should) actively police. As long as the initial link isn't a referral link and the site isn't an obvious scam/malware site, then I personally don't see any issue with it... if people want to click links on external sites once they're there, that's their problem. |

Honestly sounds like your blocks are corrupted. This could be caused either by failures of the storage device, the motherboard, the CPU or the RAM. What are the specs of the hardware you are using? I note you checked the storage device, but have you tried using Memtest86+ ( https://www.memtest.org/) to test your RAM? |

Personally, I'd give up on using Bitcoin Core as your wallet at this point, as it seems that your current hardware is not going to be able to run it reliably. Use the dumpwallet command in Bitcoin Core console to dump out all your private keys... then import those private keys into another wallet like Electrum ( https://electrum.org/#download) That should enable you to recover the coins from the keys/addresses that are currently in your wallet.dat Then, if you want to continue using Bitcoin Core as your wallet, you'll need to source more reliable hardware, otherwise you might continue to run into issues like this... or you can look at other wallet options: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet |

THAT is your problem... Electrum "VTC" is NOT Electrum. It is not even developed by the same devs as Electrum. It is a fork of the Electrum wallet intended for use with VertCoin... it is NOT a Bitcoin wallet. It will NOT be compatible with any Electrum Bitcoin wallet file and probably explains a number of the errors you are seeing. Your backup seed mnemonics (12 words) will most likely work ok, but it will still generate VertCoin wallets/addresses (starting with a V) if used in Electrum- VTC. Your node appears to be in the middle of "Initial Block Download"... and is only ~0.4% synced at this point... you'll notice you've only got 153420 blocks out of the 609084 available. Plus it has only downloaded about ~850 megabytes of data... which is less than the 1024megabytes that you specified as "pruning" size. Once it gets over the 1024 limit, it'll start pruning and you'll eventually see "pruned: true" Also: "chain": "main",
It seems your bitcoind is running on Mainnet... NOT testnet??!? |

Using a cold wallet is no problem. I'm just unsure how the function of the following works:
1. Deposit to unique (for each transaction) address
When a user requests a deposit address and there is no current "unused" address assigned to their account in your system's database, you simply generate the next address in the keychain using your Master Public Key. Then, you assign that address to the user's account in your system's database... if they already have an "unused" address assigned, display current "unused" address. 2. Received, user credited with "tokens" Monitor your "generated" addresses... once funds are received on an address, check your database to find the appropriate user account that the address is assigned to, then credit that account with "tokens"... and then mark that address as "used", so that when the user next requests a deposit address, your system knows that it needs to generate and assign a new address. 3. Deposit automatically transferred from unique cold wallet, to single default cold wallet/storage.
If you follow Danny's advice and securely generate an offline deterministic wallet, and use the master public key of that wallet for generating the deposit addresses... then you don't need to transfer anything. All funds will be automatically deposited directly into your cold storage by the users themselves. There is no real need to collate all coins into one address. |

Run Electrum... Once it is running (it doesn't matter what wallet it opens)... Click "File -> Open" That should open the C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\roaming\Electrum\wallets directory and show you ALL the wallet files that are currently in there. Do you see any wallet files that you didn't create just now? How many wallet files do you see any are any of them your old wallet? Electrum will let you open multiple wallet files at the same time, so just try opening all of them. If you cannot find your old wallet file there, it's quite possible you were running the "portable" version of Electrum that does NOT use this folder for wallet storage, but stores the wallet in a subdirectory of where the portable.exe is located. Do a search for a folder called: electrum_data If that folder was removed when you deleted Electrum, then you will likely not be able to recover the wallet file In addition, as your seed is recovering an empty wallet, it's highly likely that while it is a valid Electrum seed (ie. It is accepted by Electrum), it isn't the right one for your old wallet. |
