Living in the country can suck at times but the benefits usually out-way the city life.  Me, in the future hope to have both amenities.  Nowadays you almost have to be where there is good internet service.

Interesting things are coming but are they viable to the home miner?  Does this node come with free preinstalled spamware?
You know their investors only opted in on this venture if to only exploit their linked services they deem important in the road to Bitcoin's growth (I mean taking the ride on Bitcoin's success and profitablility).

I am new to Minera and have been looking at it for fun.  Has anyone been able to use it to control compacs, and U3's?

I was just wondering if it is a pain or easy.  Appreciate anyones who can share their experience if they have tried it.
I'm running the copy of Minera with cgminer-gekko that edonkey built (linked in the OP) on a Raspberry Pi 2 to run Compacs.  edonkey has it all configured - burn the image, boot the Pi, and it works.  I've used Minera to manage Compacs and GAW Fury but haven't used U3s.
Yes.  Did that but got to the password screen...whats the password or login info for first run?
344  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 24, 2015, 03:53:28 PM
Couldn't figure it out.  Almost no info on setup or config.  Drove me nuts but looks like a nice interface.

After failing to get my Pi mining on my usb 3.0 hub I switched to a Live Usb of Linux Mint on my windows netbook.  Installed Bfgminer and all is well except it seems 2 compacs share the same com but are hashing away.  Man those leds are badass!  Can't wait to get a few more.  Will try again later and report with more info.....hope I can sleep with my light show!  BADASS!

Happy you got it to work.  The RPI's really are picky on powered usb hubs.   Linux seems to really help.

I have not tried bfgminer on them.  How do you like it compared to cgminer?

Haven't tried Cgminer on these sticks yet but I will try later.  I always have used Bfgminer on sticks since the erupter days and Cgminer on my scrypt rigs.

For mining cat5 or cat5e, your not sending/receiving that much data mining.  Cat5e can carry gigabit speeds on your network like cat6 can but all devices i.e. modem, routers/switches and computers need gigabit ports to complete the gigabit network speed.  If you have a non-gigabit switch in front of the other devices regardless of the cabling type or use cat5 you won't reach gigabit speeds.  Gigabit speeds are mainly for large downloads but we are now seeing upload speeds reaching a level that gigabit will help.
Since they're cheap now always buy cat6 cables they're backward compatible, it will save you in the future from upgrading later.

you have to try the linux 7 build .

night and day over windows.
Looking forward to it, it's on the to do list.  Going to try Debian on usb and Ubuntu on an old laptop.

You will love it and not go back to windows on one machine.  Always could do RPI like I did aswell.

But it's so much nicer then messing with Windows drivers.   It just works great in linux.
I'm running my Pi with Raspbian but it's not seeing my usb 3.0 powered hub.  Bfgminer starts fine but then asks to "add" devices.
Here's my initial config....   sudo ./bfgminer -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -O 1Hovwsge5CAeVeQfXrF7iMZ1KyoqyjCagK --set compac:clock=x0b83

Is there a better more compatible linux os for Pi?

The problem is the hub.  RPI i learned is a PAIN on compatable hubs. Usb 3 are not liked by most RPI.

I would try one with a undpowered usb hub and I think you will see it (or connect directly to pi).  But I would order a hub that has been confirmed to work with RPI.  It should be all usb 2.0 but that is not the case.  I did kinda a cluster to get my usb hub working.
It didn't work connected directly to the Pi either.  Looks like I will start from scratch.

Any peticular flavor of Debian being used?
My sticks arrived promptly.

Always post with a pic with your forum name and date in it for members to take you seriously.  As far as cost check other posts, but they tend to be selling from $900-$1100 (thats actual selling cost and not just what people are hoping to get).
352  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: September 19, 2015, 04:37:18 AM
Updated the shipping queue. I got a few small orders in over the last few days, which are all going out. The first big US-domestic reseller shipment is going out, and the second is ready but waiting for a label. After that I have 134 sticks in six large-queue orders to send out. I'm going to try to have all of them out by next Friday.

Pretty soon I'll be out of parts and have to scrounge up for another batch. We brought in enough stuff to make 500 sticks. I was hoping they'd sell faster (and orders would get filled faster) so we'd already be buying the second half parts but it'll work out.

Thank you for the hard work.  Things will pick up steam I'm sure once the resellers get a hold of them.

You might try some of the colocation sites.  I know  some of mine got left behind when I picked them up.
354  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: September 16, 2015, 01:58:15 AM
The after-parts margin for the entire batch of 1000 Compacs would just pay back the pick-and-place if I didn't have any other expenses - power bills, rent, labor, what have you. That's also ignoring all the dev costs we out-of-pocketed. Even with the robot there's a surprising amount of manual work going into making these, which is getting less and less as I iron out the calibrations on the machine and require less touch-up but there's still manual installation of USB jacks, and cleaning, and heatsinking, and testing, and packing. I work for awful close to free (to be frank, right now I'm living about 20% above the poverty line and most of that goes to rent and student loans from 6 years of college), but awful close to free is by no means actually free. Dude's gotta eat.

I hear ya, but I couldn't believe the price was $25 each.... I thought it would of been more, hats off to you. I love to tinker (got that from my dad R.I.P.) so I'm sure you enjoy yourself in the end of it all. Designing and making a miner and putting it out into the world......hell Id put on a smile with assembly and tinkering. Its like building a project car, in the end you stand back and look around with a big smile on your face, and that first successful test drive *speechless*
I believe the strongest argument is their ability to create something, from nothing (excuse my French) and sell it for a set price with very little markup.  And still be here daily to answer and bullshit with us.  Something that's lacking in the community.  When do you see Bitmain communicating, maybe a post once a week or at release.  I say job well done and look forward to my order and the next one.

The best stickminer I found on a quick glance at eBay for $25 or less was listed as 2.8GH. For the same $25, what you're getting is 8GH at the same power draw or up to around 23GH if you wanted to push it. Be thankful you have that option, because no other stickminer made was built to handle the power or the inherent adjustability. If you think that you can build one better and afford to sell it for under $25 (without slaves) and still keep the lights on in the shop and food on the table, I'll buy a few dozen of yours. Until then, please don't complain about the price, which is one of the best new-equipment prices ever offered for a stick miner - especially for what is, by W/GH and $/GH and total GH capable, the best stick miner yet made. If you want something better, you no longer want a stick miner.

SOLD! (Again)  Placing order now........... sorry waited so long but I have some ideas for cooling reusing old hardware and found a neato usb hub, if it works may be able to overclock thru the roof.  Miss my flashy led thingys.
356  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Advice needed from people who own APW3-12-1600 PSU on: September 15, 2015, 04:14:17 PM
I have had great luck with them so far.  Have been using with my S5+.  Finally gave me a reason to use my 240.

But you will have no problem with this working with S7.  Main thing is that you don't try to use 110/120 as it's not enough to power up PSU.

Since OP's problem is resolve i'll hijack this thread.

Is the psu that loud? I know compared to the S5+ its probably negligible but i could be interested in using it for S5's and i can run them nearly silent during winter. The PSU i have doesn't control fan with its temp but with its current load. Which make it still loud as fuck even if its very cool, while under load. Very annoying and is the sole reason i'm buying only ATX PSU atm.

Is the Bitmain's PSU the same?

It has a high pitch whine which could be over heard above my S4.  If that helps.

It's been awhile but I thought I remember Windows having a problem running too many sticks.  That's why many opted to using a Pi.
358  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Limited quantity of Silverfish scrypt miner 20M @240W on: September 12, 2015, 09:46:03 PM
Without the case and fan (I'm assuming), you will need to come down on the price to get a bite.
359  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 10, 2015, 06:14:27 PM
I added a Jetflow 120 to my BE Cube case and made a usb to fan adapter to run it at 5v.  Almost silent and keeps the compacs cool to the touch.

Thats exactly what I intend to do.  Nice.
360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any good CPU coins to mine now? on: September 09, 2015, 06:39:50 AM
I agree with one of the posts above.  XMR or BCN.  For CPU.

And I love how some people tell people that mine with CPUs not to or that you should give up.  I CPU mine daily as well as GPU and ASIC mine.   I mine XMR with CPU and over time the Satoshi that you make does add up.  I take mine and invest in ICOs and sometime double if not triple what I mined.  There for CPU mining can be worth if.  Unless you just plan on mining and selling.   Take the little you get and try the lotto to make a lot.

I hate when people say to give up.

To give you all that think that mining isn't worth it when it comes to CPUs.
I started with only CPU mining.  Even when people said that is wasn't worth it.  I made little satoshi and again invested what i mined.

Today I now sit on over $10k worth of BTC.   And the only investment that I have was The Solar I use to charge my computer.  I turned hardly nothing into something.

So it can be done even with a higher DIFF.  Just wouldn't recommend BTC with CPU.   Takes to long to to earn anything.

OK sorry i went on but I just hate when people say you cant or to give up.
I agree with you.  But 10k cpu mining and you have a month old acct. here.
