341  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I'm giving 100% ROI away to anyone who thinks pirate is a fraud on: September 10, 2012, 02:20:15 AM
I'll have to order another issue after this announcement.

They should also clarify if Matthew still has any equity in the company.

^This.  As I said in another thread.  If he's still profiting, I'm not buying.
342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Letter to Matthew on: September 10, 2012, 02:13:23 AM
I'm not willing to share my PMs with Matthew, but I'll confirm that as late as last week he fully expected pirate to pay (I don't know why and didn't ask).  This fits with his original post about the community being too quick to label people as scammers (which is what started the bet).

I'm sure he did, but the fact that he wasn't able to follow through on his side of the bet proves that it was just a simple theft. Think of it this way please: IF PIRATE HAD PAID, THEN MNW WOULD HAVE STOLEN NEARLY A MILLION DOLLARS FROM THE COMMUNITY. When you see it that way, you'll realize just how bad his scam really was. He was gambling his entire reputation on the chance of getting a quick million, and he lost.

Do you honestly believe that Matthew would have taken people's money if he'd won the bet?  If so, you know a different Matthew than I do.

We are talking about the same guy that just tried to defraud this community out of 80k BTC?  That guy?  Yes, he would have taken the money and ran.  Just like all scammers.

I'll retract what I've said if he pays.  But I don't see payment happening.  Ever.
343  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MATTHEW FIRED FROM BITCOIN MAGAZINE on: September 10, 2012, 02:08:51 AM
Cool. Let me know when they announce that he has 0 stake and gains nothing from the sale & promotion of their magazine.

^This.  If he is still profiting, I'm not buying.
344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Matthew Wright -- a recipe for community justice on: September 10, 2012, 01:13:01 AM
That will double plus erase them.

That made me lol.

I'm actually waiting for this guy to show his face here again.  I can't wait personally.

I just hope no one does something stupid like punch him in the face when they see him in London.  I would feel really bad if something like that were to happen.

Cheers!
345  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Service/Bet Recap Summary on: September 10, 2012, 12:42:46 AM

7. ......?

8. Profit!
346  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are people over-reacting on MNW's bet? on: September 10, 2012, 12:20:10 AM
but please don't let these consequences be hundreds of threads.

Says the guy that started this thread.  Now that's funny.  Here's a suggestion.  Want it to stop?  Lock the fucking thread.
347  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Letter of concern to the board of BitTalk Media Inc. (MNW 80K Fraud) on: September 10, 2012, 12:11:14 AM
Matt never made any link to the company and Vlad did post that this had nothing to do with the magazine.  Shortly after Matt removed any links to the magazine in his sig and avatar (likely at the urging of the company).

Oh yes he did.  On his spreadsheet he had pics of each one of Bitcoin Magazine's issues and links to subscribe.  They were of course removed but it made it look like the company was involved in the bet while they were up.
348  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: September 09, 2012, 11:21:25 PM
I'm still agonizing over which is funnier... watching the entire spreadsheet worth of bettors get pantsed in public, or the outcry over it.

If anyone who had an IQ reaching into double digits did any background on Matty, and his Hilarious Horde of Hijinks you would have known good and early that this would turn out to be a spoof, a canard, a bon geste. You have all been made out to look as foolish as online personas can possibly be, and every single bettor who lined up for this abuse looks about as intelligent as the losers on To Catch A Predator, who stand there dumbfounded, wondering why they aren't screwing a 14 year old hottie, and they are being grilled on TV instead.

I would imagine the only remorse Matt has is that it fell on the 9th of September, and not the 1st of April.

What a boatload of buffoons! Quick, back into your clown car and go chasing after the next great scheme... you know they next one has to be real...

Seriously dickhead?  To ignore you go.
349  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are people over-reacting on MNW's bet? on: September 09, 2012, 10:57:08 PM
I can't believe how many people don't get what he did. Pirateat40's pyramid scheme was a scam to begin with. Whe it defaulted (let me show you my shocked face), Matthew tried to show you how easy it is to fool you suckers without actually taking any of your money, and yet you still don't get it. Hey scammers! There are still plenty of fish in here!

I think Matthew cares about the scammers tag as much as anyone cares that HE HAS PUT BITCOIN MAGAZINE IN BOOKSTORES!

But he wasn't targeting people who were fooled by Pitareat40's scam, he was "fooling" people who were warning other fools about risky investment schemes.

Yes he did.  He specifically mentioned his bet as a way to hedge for Pirate investors.
350  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are people over-reacting on MNW's bet? on: September 09, 2012, 10:53:51 PM
People on this board have white-knighted for every scammy fuck that's come through so I'm not surprised this time is any different.

...

Nah just kidding guys, it's totally cool when people break their contracts and promises as long as they are the type of people you should expect that from.

I would point out that it is useful information to look at the persons defending Matt and their arguments.  It provides an insight into their thought processes and a good reason to avoid doing business with them.  Those defending him are saying it is ok to lie, cheat, and break agreements as long as funds don't change hands.  Those aren't the kind of people I would want to be involved in a trade with.

Agreed.

I have every single one of these asshats on ignore right now.  I will not be doing business with people like that.  People are showing their true colors today and for what?  A scammer? lol.
351  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I'm giving 100% ROI away to anyone who thinks pirate is a fraud on: September 09, 2012, 10:40:45 PM
If he had 200k coins and truly believed in pirate, he would have just bought pirate debt at 5% of face value.

Maybe he was?  How do I know if he was or not?  Maybe he saw this bet as a way to make more money while buying up debt behind the scenes?  I have no idea.

Doesn't change why I made the bet I did.
352  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are people over-reacting on MNW's bet? on: September 09, 2012, 09:55:26 PM
People on this board have white-knighted for every scammy fuck that's come through so I'm not surprised this time is any different.

Would some of the people on the other side of the bet most likely have also reneged on payment? Irrelevant.
Was it pretty obvious that he wasn't going to pay out close to a million dollars? Irrelevant.

It was also obvious that investing with "pirate" would be a VERY risky investment.  That doesn't absolve the perpetrator for scamming people.  You can think the victims are dumb AND also acknowledge that the person that defrauded or deceived them is a piece of shit.

Acting like the bet was some masterstroke of genius and imparted some critical lesson for all involved is laughable.

I didn't invest with pirate and I didn't bet with Matt.  The fact that their deceptions were poorly constructed doesn't stop me from recognizing that they are untrustworthy douche-bag scammers.

Nah just kidding guys, it's totally cool when people break their contracts and promises as long as they are the type of people you should expect that from.

+1
353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MATTHEW N. WRIGHT IS A SCAMMER on: September 09, 2012, 09:50:55 PM
Has there been any word from him?  Anywhere? Or pirate? Is there a difference?

Nope, he's on though.  Watching....

In some sick twisted way this is funny to him.
354  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I'm giving 100% ROI away to anyone who thinks pirate is a fraud on: September 09, 2012, 09:45:45 PM

Why bet on something you will win and probably not get paid.

I didn't know that.  I took a long time member, early adopter, forum staff member, bitcoin businessman, at his word.  For all I know he could be sitting on 200k in coins and just really believed in Pirate.  I didn't know it'd come to this.

Looking forward to this book though:
"How to completely blow your credibility in less then 3 weeks by Matthew Not Wright."
355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Letter to Matthew on: September 09, 2012, 09:31:53 PM
Matthew -

What you have done, there is no excuse for. You tricked honest people, you lied and deceived them.

Over the past months (year?), I've had a number of discussions with you, and increasingly felt (and stated publicly) that you were a valuable member of this community. When others criticized you, I stood up for you. Actually, I was very proud that you were involved in all this, and I enjoyed our conversations sincerely.

This bet that you did - I figured there would be some trick. Perhaps you knew Pirate would pay? Perhaps you had tons of Bitcoins and were going to pay out what you promised as an ultimate gesture of goodwill? Perhaps the Pirate story hadn't ended and it would've been great fun to scare everyone for a few weeks, only to pay up at the last minute? Maybe you had something creative in mind? I wasn't sure what the trick was, but I knew you wouldn't outright lie, cheat and steal.

Yet, that's what you did. You simply lied and reneged.

You probably think you've taught the community a "lesson." And indeed, you did. The lesson is that Matthew N. Wright is a fraud. Wow, quite an amazing an valuable lesson you've taught us. Such utility we have gained from your prescience and tutelage.

I'm deeply disappointed in this - I don't think I've ever put my trust and support behind someone who broke it so absurdly and carelessly. Feel free to reply with some snide comment, or perhaps you won't reply at all. Doesn't really matter. You've criticized and made fun of so many people in these forums - yet almost none of them deserve the scorn that you now deserve. Even the "scammer" label is too good for you - you didn't set up any interesting scam. You just lied and broke your promise. Not an ounce of creativity nor wit... just awful human behavior.

You are an immoral, illegitimate person, Matthew, and I hope you extricate yourself from what we're trying to build.  I'm embarrassed to have ever defended or supported you.

Ashamed and betrayed,
-Erik

PS - for the record, I didn't have any stake in either Pirate nor this Matthew bet.

Thank you for this.

(or whatever he dies there)

hopefully
357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MATTHEW N. WRIGHT IS A SCAMMER on: September 09, 2012, 09:00:33 PM
I'm not in charge of scammer tags, I'm just saying making up hypothetical situations and expecting a serious answer is kinda dumb.

I'm simply asking for bitcointalk.org's definition of a scammer.  It's a legitimate question.  If that doesn't exist that's fine.  Maybe we should wait for Theymos to weight in, if he chooses to do so.

Thx.

Matthew didn't take any money, but I believe others have received scammer tags preemptively. so SCAMMER sometimes means ALMOST SCAMMER.

One problem with the bet scenario is that nobody would have really known what to do were Matthew to win the bet. Matthew wouldn't have gotten the scammer tag, but he would have been just as guilty.

I agree with this... People are going overboard... I sorta knew it was a joke from the start.....

Sorry but no they are not over-reacting.  I was ready to pay out if I lost.  And yes, he would have took my BTC.  I also bought pirate debt because of this bet, debt I wouldn't have bought if this bet didn't exist.  I fully expected Matthew to pay.  I am out BTC because of his actions.  Also, people didn't sell their pirate debt because of this bet.  People have lost money here because of Matthew.  They have every right to be as pissed as they are.

He's a scamming fuck.
358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] The world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: September 09, 2012, 08:12:20 PM
Everyone considering investing in this, should be aware that according to this forum, general consensus and any type of logic/law: Matthew N. Wrong is a scammer.

He is also quite rude and immature at times.

And farts on occasion! Oh my!

You know the funny thing?  I just found out about this product today after the scam you pulled.  No way in hell I'm buying one.  Even if it is cool as hell (which it seems like it is).

You not only screwed yourself but every business you are involved in and the partners who work with you.

Come on guys, you cannot miss up on this conference. Cheesy

I sure hope all the attendies at the conference boo him off the stage for the scummy fuck he is.

This one going to be a memorable conference, that's for sure...

Someone needs to record  it. I can just hear the "get off the stage you fucker!" comments...lol

Lol, please record and post this.  That is if he isn't removed from the list of speakers after this scam.

Also, I now know that the N. stands for Neal.  I actually thought it stood for Not.
360  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Now that the bet is over... on: September 09, 2012, 07:59:48 PM

Ever calculated how much power the creation of one block costs?
There are any number of actually usefull stuff that will be used for barter, like food and water.
People trying to do bitcoin in such a situation will most likely severely hamper their chances to survive.
Remember, this is the apocalypse. People rioting and stuff.
FIRST concern is staying alive.
Bitcoin will have exactly zero purpose in a sociatal apocalypse.

^this

I will want something of value to other people, i.e. gold, silver.  I won't want your fucking electronic coins.  People are so delusional.  If the shit does hit the fan BTC will be worthless.

Now excuse me, I have to learn how to bash a deer's head in with a rock because I bought bitcoins instead of a gun.

Try using two fairly large rocks with the head in between.

I tried this, they are fast little bastards.  I'm going out today and trying the jump out of a tree and wrestle it to the ground method. Smiley
