Pictures are worth a thousands words. So what do you think of this one?
I wanted the grey text to have more panache, but my skill ith GIMP is not good enough (I tried these two links)

If anyone wants to improve on it, I'd be happy to provide the original .xcf as well as to update my original post. I'm not an artist, I'm sure other can do better and I encourage you to!

As for credit: I expect I made it clear that adding Monero is not Coindesk.

As for using "true electronic cash" instead of "secure, private, untraceable": this is on purpose, because a) a product can have several slogan at the same time b) even though Monero can be more than a currency (opaque blockchain computing), this is the aspect we are talking about here.

342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: January 26, 2015, 11:49:17 AM
We should link xmrmonero.com on  monero.cc and in the first post of this thread. No one will find it otherwise. Everything gets buried in this 1000 page thread.
Done.

A single disclosure of identity, even years in the future, and every transaction on that address and those connected to it is compromised.

Stands out Smiley Monero logo is definitely standing out amongst the other logos.

I updated the max profit for XMR (I will do it regularly, but will not announce it every times). Yesterday, it was 25 EUR, today is it 33 EUR. One part come from the rise of the bankroll, another part from the continuous appreciation of XMR since CCD appeared and yet another part from the rise of BTC.
345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Monero Economy Workgroup - The MEW Thread on: January 24, 2015, 06:06:45 PM
Didn't have time to follow this one, perhaps it was answered somewhere else. If so, maybe I can ask for a quick recap:

Of the total funds donated to MEW in the form of the membership fees, how much has approximately been transferred to the devs (or XMR related projects unrelated to MEW) up to this point?
50% of the registration fees. For upgrades, same rule, just not done yet.
So to know how much, do this:
1. Go to https://xmrmonero.com/page/en/mew-members
2. Add any member
3. Divide the result by two

Presently, this means 3 969 XMR to the dev fund - I can't say exactly how much fiat it represents but a good approximation of what we spent can be found on the MMM#22.

I imported the missives on xmrmonero.com. This allowed me to validate the tagging system.
https://xmrmonero.com/tags/monday-monero-missives

They are also present in the news sections - news differs from blogs in that the latter is for random monero-related news by MEW members, whilst the former is more official.

On other news: 1000 pages is a milestone! 20K posts and probably among the highest signal-to-noise ratio.

Go Monero!
347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Monero Economy Workgroup - The MEW Thread on: January 24, 2015, 03:35:33 PM
MEW has today 51 members, 50 of them needing to renew (the 51st joined us this week; please welcome dewdeded!)
Of these 50 members, 12 already renewed
Of these 12 renewals, at least three (myagui, pa and equipoise) decided to take advantage of the opportunity (and the special offer) to upgrade their level  - two others sent more than required so I am waiting for their answer to know if is an accident or if they confirm they want to upgrade.
These upgrades are a nice surprise, I can tell you Smiley

Also, to keep with the spirit of separating ourselves from Bitcoin, futures announcements will be on the MEW website and forum, xmrmonero.com. There is a dedicated public thread, on top of a private forum, accessible only to MEW members who created their account on xmrmonero.com (being a registered MEW member also allows you to have your own blog).

The updated member list is available on the MEW website.
348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: January 24, 2015, 12:59:23 PM
There are very few sites accepting XMR. Other than exchanges https://www.cryptocoins-dice.com/ is the only one I know about.
I started on the offcial MEW website a list of Monero-accepting merchants and services, both online and offline.

https://xmrmonero.com/forum/en/monero-accepted-here

I will later make a webpage out of it, I just need some time (and the publication queue is already several day long). If a merchant or service you know is not present, please leave a comment.

In the future I imagine there will be coin control features in wallets so you would be able to say "just move these coins"
If we start to worry about particular coin, then it means fungibility is not as good as expected. I'm not saying coin control is bad (I'm a big fan of it on a different crypto), just that the need for it is symptomatic of a shortcoming on the fungibility of Monero.

How do you generate a Payment ID with simple wallet?  Or can you?

349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptocoins-Dice official thread (Monero, Coin of the Magi & Dogecoin) on: January 24, 2015, 01:46:09 AM
I am glad to know that my coins are safely kept in cold storage. The site is off to a very promising start, I think.

I compared the maximum profit on several locations:

Code:
Doge-dice    DOGE       1.47 EUR 2015-01-23
CCD          DOGE       3.72 EUR 2015-01-23
CCD           XMR      78 EUR    2015-01-29
CCD           XMR     715 EUR    2015-01-31 (leveraged/dynamic/volatile)
Dogedice.me  DOGE     542 EUR    2015-01-31  (thanks Bobbax)
safedice      BTC     822 EUR    2015-01-23  (thanks cryptkeeper)
Just-dice    CLAM   45000 EUR    2015-01-23

Just to put some things in perspective... or anticipate the future and its consequences in term of gamblers (some gamblers won't play if they can't win less than 100 or 1000 euros, for instance) as well as the security and (maybe) regulation consequences (neither XDG nor XMR are money, but when cashing out, that's another story). I anticipate serious action will have to be considered earlier than expected for all parties involved.

Keep in mind that the cold & deep-storage addresses are moving during the week.
The Proof-of-Reserve transfer reflect the state of the wallet on the moment it's done.

So it means:
Code:
Bank roll            ~20346.60 XMR
Cold wallet level 2:    N/A
Cold wallet level 1:  11968.13 XMR
Hot wallet:           ~8378.47 XMR
Right?
351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptocoins-Dice official thread (Monero, Coin of the Magi & Dogecoin) on: January 24, 2015, 12:50:01 AM
I hope this method works.
Since you are sending 100% of the wallet, you neutralise the "quantity obfuscation" aspect of Monero. There are still lot of way you could lie and scam people but there not much than you can do from a technical standpoint. Test of time and reputation will do the rest, I suppose.

You can keep the same payment ID everytime - it won't be usable anyway and once it will be, it will be simpler to check with the same payment ID.
The txid is what will matter. This is how we will be able to check the quantity. I assume the transaction fees will be considered as site expenses.

Fantastic work by Vanderi. Check it out!
I concur, Vanderi entertains us with great music for months. And you will notice the title reflect the current events at time (like fhe "FUD fuck")

Monero has a dice game now (outside IRC).
(cross-posted from the ANN)
I wrote a laudative article about cryptocoins-dice.com. Not sponsored of course, everything is my very own opinion, untainted.

Bet on Monero!

I also made the necessary arrangements to check the identity of Bobbax. We agreed I would keep those information to myself but I can assure you the site is legit (still, only invest what you can afford to lose). If you are wondering if my opinion is worth something, you can always check my reputation thread on my sig.

Excerpts from my article:
Quote
Bobbax decided to "sit on the shoulder of giants" and reuse what works elsewere.

So, on top of the usual (for cryptos) 1% house hedge, the site sports plenty of keyboard shortcuts to play the popular martingale-style without the mouse (C to double bet on loss, X to halve bet once won, H and L to play high or low and plenty of other shortcut). Inspiration here is clearly just-dice.

But CCD goes further and borrows one great idea from primedice: an in-browser bot. Longtime just-dice players know about the fantastically powerful Seuntje's bot (a Windows application). Without being that powerful, CCD's in-browser bot is much stronger than the primedice one. For start, it can be used with keyboard shortcuts too (B to start playing). Second, it offers "cut losses" and "take profit" options on top of the regular "max bets" and "actions on win"/"actions on loss". And it also has some useful stats (stats are your friend when bot-martingaling). Oh, one more thing™: the bot is fast! I mean, really fast. Just-dice greatly reduces the speed of playing with a bot by introducing quite a large delay. primedice's bot is just anemic and the whole interface is heavy on load. On the contrary, CCD's bot is just fast. Do not worry though: if you want to keep it to a humanly manageable level, you can introduce an artificial delay (500 ms between bets as default).

Investment is really simple. You deposit money on your account (like for just-dice, you can avoid keeping an account but then it means you rely solely on cookies to keep your money - I don't recommend it). Once the money is deposited, you go to the "my invest" tab and deposit what you want. The site will take 10% of your investment profit when you divest, that's all. Exactly like just-dice. And of course, you can invest on all the currencies, not just one.

Like several chats (including the famous Poloniex trollbox), CCD has protips. They will surely grow in variety with time. The chat also has plenty of command line options (use /help for a list, 17 for the moment). One exclusive thing that I instantly appreciated about the chat is the "character count". A dynamic "progress bar" shows you how far you are from hitting the limit. This is something that frustrates me immensely on Poloniex: text getting truncated without notice (at least you can see it before submitting, but still). With the awesome "progress bar", no more surprise anymore Smiley

The domain have a DNS anti-poisoning protection, an anti-cybersquatting measure and the DNS is shared on 19 geographical positions. The server is DDoS protected and uses 3 Mitigation Multi-point in case of an attack. On top of it, the site allows to use 2FA and has a cold wallet.

358  Economy / Economics / Re: Is crypto as a financial investment doomed? on: January 21, 2015, 01:37:24 PM
And far as investing in a currency is concerned, I answered a similar question here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=923906.0

Its a lengthy response so only read if you got time.
tl;dr?

If one doesnt have the time to read, one should get involved in investing moneyf
If one doesn't have the time to write an executive summary of one's post, one should not consider widespread distribution oh one's ideas in a highly-competitive information market

Wait you are telling us, crypto as a whole is failing and that includes bitcoin but on the other hand, tells us to create a completely new crypto to own one. So which one is right?
Not crypto as a whole. The hoarding aspect of crypto.
Gold rush is over. It is time to build California.
Said otherwise: the accumulation time as a whole is over. The future belongs to ecosystems and services. Not owning gold, but making something out of it. When an economy moves from "accumulation phase" to "service phase", this is actually a good news for the economy. It means it is leaving infancy.

That's what I meant by "as a financial investment". But as an economy investment, this is the opportunity of a lifetime.

As an investment both of those coins at this point are worthless, (I like Monero and have friends holding some for me) But its unusable in everyday usage right now and thus useless and only speculative.  If you want to make XMR have any value you need to concentrate building it so others can use it like Bitcoin.
I agree wholeheartedly. That's why we are focusing on developing these tools that are needed so much - Bitcoin had 5 years to make it, we only got one year.

(by the way, if the CLI Monero wallet is too complex for you, you can use mymonero web wallet - everything is done locally, the wallet never have your private keys)

Might be a bit of an ignorant question, but I can't seem to find this simple info anywhere (neither in OP nor on the rather broken monero website):

1) What is the smallest unit in monero? Is there an accepted name? Moneritos? Matoshis?

2) How much of these units make 1 monero?
Amount IS in the OP: 2^64-1

Smallest unit: piconero https://xmrmonero.com/node/88

This is the MEW (Monero Economy Worgroup), mainly ran by yours truly, core dev, so almost as good as official.

The FAQ will be expanded with your questions.
