3421  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory stuck on "Preparing Databases" on: December 09, 2019, 04:24:18 AM
Are you able to run ArmoryDB.exe manually from the commandline and see what it does if you start it with the following:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Armory\ArmoryDB.exe --cookie --satoshi-datadir="J:\Bitcoin\blocks" --satoshi-port=8333 --datadir="C:\Users\Marty\Roaming\Armory\" --dbdir="C:\Users\Marty\AppData\Roaming\Armory\databases"

NOTE: that in this instance, the satoshi-datadir should have the "blocks" folder appended to it
3422  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] So I think I may have been scammed by Directbet.eu (1btc+) Need Help on: December 07, 2019, 08:45:46 AM
Why are you attempting to claim on a bet from 4 years ago... only now? Huh

In any case, it would appear that DirectBet.eu shutdown over 2 years ago: https://www.newsbtc.com/2017/05/23/cryptocurrency-gambling-platform-directbet-eu-shuts-although-reason-remains-unclear/

I would guess that your chances of getting ANY funds is somewhere between 0 and none Undecided

Do you have any proof to back up your claims? If so, post all the evidence you have here that proves it. Then create a "Type 3 "red flag" against this user here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;addflag=2645399

Select the "This user violated a written contract with me, resulting in damages." and use this thread as the reference link ("You must create a topic describing the specific acts which damaged you. It must not be self-moderated.").

Once you have posted the proof... and created the flag... users will be able to support your flag (assuming the proof is valid) which will mark the account and all threads they create. That should help prevent other users from getting scammed by them.
3424  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Personal Server 0.2.0 Released on: December 07, 2019, 07:59:59 AM
Interesting... I have "electrs" running under Ubuntu via "Windows Subsystem for Linux" on a i5-3570K with only 8Gig of RAM... whilst I basically do everything else in Windows 10 (In addition to Bitcoin Core GUI running, QBittorent and Brave Browser, there is a shitload of useless stuff running like discord, steam and teamviewer and other bits and pieces) etc...

And this is the memory usage for it:

I'd be interested to see if you could get WSL, Ubuntu and electrs running on that machine and see how it compares to EPS.
3425  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X - Review of the package. on: December 07, 2019, 07:33:39 AM
The only real advantage that I am aware of is that you can have more apps installed at the same time. Which is good if you have a lot of shitcoins, not my case.
It also has bluetooth support for connecting to Ledger Live on a mobile device (BT is not useable with desktop version of LL), so you don't have to fiddle around with an OTG cable etc.
3426  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a short term loan ASAP on: December 07, 2019, 07:05:10 AM
A signed message using a very very old bitcoin address that you have used here:

-G0Yn4AaTkKwS3r4Y6HUBYqVK6dHefKEHuVIzg40ZvgbLc5y+NCYosh235IFHoOyF8cVR/qtUPTBUGnzMgR8U0Ns=
You can't just post the signature... you need to be very explicit as to what the "message" actually was that you signed... How old is that address? Was it staked here at all? Huh
3427  Other / Meta / Re: Stake your Bitcoin address here on: December 07, 2019, 06:56:39 AM
...
For the meantime, here's an open-source "verifyer" of messages signed to SegWit addresses using Trezor wallet (not mine).
https://jhoenicke.github.io/brainwallet.github.io/#verify <- Different than the regular brainwallet/#verify link.
...
Well... it looks like we got there in the end... I'll have to add that "jhoenicke.github.io" version to my list of bookmarks... so thanks for that headsup. Faster than digging the Trezor out and logging in and trying to verify it there Wink

So, now we have:

- "legacy" signing which works pretty anywhere
- P2SH SegWit signing which seems to be random as to what can work (Electrum has a method which doesn't seem to work anywhere other than Electrum, Mycelium has a method which works in Electrum??!? but not either of those BrainWallet verifiers... Trezor has a method which at least works on one of the BrainWallet verifiers)
- Native SegWit signing... which is just as FUBAR as P2SH SegWit signing...

I guess the moral of the story is... just use Legacy addresses for signing messages! Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
3428  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: have btc in used address in blockchain.info wallet can't spend on: December 06, 2019, 09:58:05 PM
Because, based on what you're saying, the seed/xpub stored in your wallet did not create those addresses... otherwise you would see them when you were using the Ian Coleman website!

So, the only explanation I can think of is as described above... and that they're not "imported" addresses... but they're not "HD wallet" addresses either... Like I said, try downloading the wallet.aes.json and decrypting it using the tool (it's coded and released by blockchain.com)...

Have a look a the decrypted file (click the "View JSON" link in the tool once decrypted) and see if it gives you any more info and/or the private key for that address.

And I was able to verify this one using Trezor... but it doesn't seem to verify on Electrum or Mycelium? Huh

3430  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: have btc in used address in blockchain.info wallet can't spend on: December 06, 2019, 09:10:51 PM
all the addresses that came up didn't match anything in my wallet
And, just to confirm, the 12 words that you are using on Ian Coleman, are the same 12 words you get when you go into the Security Center in Blockchain.com and select "Backup Again"? Huh

If so, it seems you might have a wallet that has addresses which were generated prior to the HD implementation... that has since been converted to an HD wallet. In which case, those addresses will not be recoverable with your 12 words.

You'd need to get hold of the wallet.aes.json file and try and manually decrypt it using the wallet decryption tool here: https://github.com/blockchain/my-wallet-backup-decryption-tool/releases
You can download the wallet.aes.json file by using the "download-blockchain-wallet.py" script that is included in the "btcrecover" package: https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover

3432  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory stuck on "Preparing Databases" on: December 06, 2019, 01:04:32 AM
What happens if you modify the Armory shortcut and remove the "--satoshi-datadir" stuff... and just leave it with: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Armory\ArmoryQt.exe", then put J:\bitcoin in the Armory Settings in the "Bitcoin Home Dir" box and leave the Armory Database dir blank?

This is essentially what I have (with my custom Bitcoin Core directory)... no .conf files, no shortcut target... and just the custom Bitcoin DataDir listed in "Settings" in "Bitcoin Home Dir":

NOTE: I have "Let Armory run Bitcoin Core/bitcoind in the background" selected... but I leave the "Bitcoin Install Dir" box blank (and I actually have Bitcoin Core GUI already running whenever I start Armory)
3433  Economy / Securities / Re: I'm bored... it's hot... and I like throwing money away on frivolous investments on: December 06, 2019, 12:15:59 AM
Is Grin your actual choice or is that an example?
Yeah... I guess I didn't make that clear... so, for reference... it IS my choice.

Code:
Bitcointalk name: HCP
Altcoin I choose: GRIN
I will pay 0.01 BTC once 10 people have joined: yes
After 10 months, return my 10% of the "winnings" to: 3GgSk2dRsDShRdSTrLjs1iBPf2qetRhZhk
3434  Other / Meta / Re: 2 sensible suggestions that MAY solve most of the problems with the trust system on: December 06, 2019, 12:02:55 AM
The reason for debate should be clear to anyone that joins a forum. You debate, you thrash out and improve the weak points. You then reach the optimal solution...
And what happens if the vast majority of the community decides that the "optimal solution" for a given problem is not what you want?

Would you accept that "the community has spoken" and accept the solution? Would you leave the forum and find a community of like minded individuals who agree with your idea of what the "optimal solution" was? or would you just open countless threads demanding that it be changed to what you still believed was the "optimal solution"?

I see potential here for the thread title.
Agreed... Tongue

I think it would be cool if someone started one with a catch to make it more fun.  For example, at the end of the time period everyone who lost BTC with their pick would take possession of the altcoins they selected.  This would leave only the outperformers, to be liquidated and split between those who selected them.  This way you either get an altcoin that you selected, or you make BTC.  Win-win.
Oh... that is a fantastic idea... stolen! Tongue

AKA: HCP's Ode to LoyceV's Legendary 10 Month 10 Person 10 Altcoin Investment Roller Coaster (with a Twist)

Summary:

I think we all know the basic concept... 10 people (including me) will each contribute 0.01BTC to a pool and then each person chooses a different altcoin... and I'll then buy the 10 chosen altcoins (via an exchange Bittrex, Poloniex, Binance, Bitmex)... we'll all then F5 repeatedly on coinmarketcap.com for 10 months hoping against all hope that we at least break even this time Tongue

However, based on a suggestion... it's time for a twist!

At the end of the 10 months... Any altcoin that has "lost" (ie. is worth less than 0.01 BTC BEFORE trading/withdrawal/transaction fees) will simply be returned to the person who picked it and that person is removed from the pool. Any altcoin that has "won" (ie. is worth >= 0.01 BTC BEFORE trading/withdrawal/transaction fees) will be sold and then split amongst the remaining participants (if any).

To illustrate... let's pretend we get the following (very unlikely) results:
||Altcoin|Start|End|
|1. |GBYTE|0.01BTC|0.01043996BTC|
|2. |PIVX|0.01BTC|0.00526071BTC|
|3. |SC|0.01BTC|0.00957474BTC|
|4. |XRP|0.01BTC|0.02049344BTC|
|5. |NANO|0.01BTC|0.01000000BTC|
|6. |NEO|0.01BTC|0.00999999BTC|
|7. |WAN|0.01BTC|0.00464830BTC|
|8. |NMC|0.01BTC|0.01009288BTC|
|9. |DGB|0.01BTC|0.00370873BTC|
|10. |XMR|0.01BTC|0.01073756BTC|

PIVX, SC, NEO, WAN, DGB all "lost" (< 0.01BTC value)... so those participants would simply receive their chosen coins back after the 10 months as their "reward" for being shit at picking altcoins.

GBYTE, XRP, NANO, NMC, XMR all "won" (>= 0.01BTC value)... so those participants would get:
(0.01043996 + 0.02049344 + 0.01000000 + 0.01009288 + 0.01073756) / 5 = 0.012352768BTC (- trading/transaction fees) as their "reward" for being less shit at picking altcoins.

In the event that ALL coins "lose"... well, everyone simply gets their chosen "worthless shitcoin"™ back! Tongue

Start Date:
Will kick off once 10 people have signed up and deposited 0.01 BTC.

End Date:
TBA once Start Date is known.

How to "Play":

Simply pick an altcoin that you think won't be a total train wreck in 10 months... then post the following, replacing my details with yours. Note that it's probably a good idea to use an address that you'll actually have access to in 10 months time.
Code:
Bitcointalk name: HCP
Altcoin I choose: GRIN
I will pay 0.01 BTC once 10 people have joined: yes
After 10 months, return my 10% of the "winnings" to: 3GgSk2dRsDShRdSTrLjs1iBPf2qetRhZhk

First in, first served... and once you're "in"... you're "in" for 10 months... there is no escape!

I'd prefer if people choose coins that were listed here: https://shop.ledger.com/pages/supported-crypto-assets (in the Nano S column) or here: https://trezor.io/coins/ (in the Trezor ONE column) and that are "easily" obtainable... (on an exchange like Poloniex or Binance or Bittrex etc)... (Yes, I know GRIN isn't on hardware wallets!... DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO! Tongue)

Once we have 10 participants and 10 coins sorted... I'll post up deposit addresses for the participants to deposit their 0.01 BTC. Once all the funds are in place, I'll convert the BTC to altcoins and off we go.

At this stage, I'm considering storing the altcoins on a hardware wallet (if possible) or a local wallet, instead of leaving them on an exchange... but will need to investigate the withdrawal and transfer fees involved. Final decision will be by majority vote from the 10 participants. In case of a split vote, decision will be made by random selection (a future block number will be chosen and the last "char" of the blockhash will decide the outcome "1,3,5,7,9,a,c,e" = exchange, "2,4,6,8,0,b,d,f" = hardware wallet)

Disclaimer:

In case you hadn't realised after the last 2 rounds of this game... "Bad Things"™ can happen:
- An altcoin can simply become worthless and cease to exist.
- Exchanges can delist an altcoin.
- 0.01 BTC of an altcoin can drop lower than the minimum amount required to trade it.
- Also, in case it wasn't obvious, you're "buying" a 10% share of all the altcoins chosen... so if someone else's pick tanks... you lose too!
- This is just a bit of fun... don't join expecting to make any money... and don't play with money you can't afford to lose!

NOTES:

- Thread has been made self-moderated to help keep things tidy.

Is there another BTC wallet which can do the same? I dont want to wait that long.
Not to my knowledge... direct BIP38 "importing" support was never widely implemented as far as I can tell. Seems most wallets required you to decrypt it first Undecided
3439  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory stuck on "Preparing Databases" on: December 05, 2019, 07:45:47 AM
As you can see from your log file... Armory is looking for your Bitcoin blocks here: "C:\Users\Marty\AppData\Roaming/Bitcoin/blocks" (which is the default location on Windows for Bitcoin blocks)
Quote
2019-12-02 19:08:20 (ERROR) -- BDM.pyc:197 - DB error: C:\Users\Marty\AppData\Roaming/Bitcoin/blocks is not a valid path
NOTE: you can ignore the different / and \ separators in the displayed path... that isn't the source of the error.

So, it seems like it's getting a bit confused somewhere along the line and not picking up the "satoshi-datadir" value and passing it to ArmoryDB. In your "C:\Users\Marty\AppData\Roaming\Armory" directory... what .conf files do you have? and what is the contents of those .conf files (if any)? Huh

Or have you only set values in the "Settings" dialog in the GUI?
3440  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: "HCP's (at least) one month long experiment of the Arakne Trading Bot"™ on: December 05, 2019, 07:37:37 AM
could you please also add an ELI5 of the strategy that the bot is using to make this profit.
Honestly... I don't really know... so can't really give you any real details of the strategy. The owner keeps all of that confidential, as is his prerogative I suppose.

My understanding is that it supposedly has some custom coded "algorithms" that search for various trading patterns and attempts to jump in and try to make some small gains. It does both "shorts" and "longs" depending on what it thinks the market is about to do. It is setup to "stop-loss" at max 30%... as we witnessed today Roll Eyes

Quote
it seems like the bot is using some sort of martingale "gambling" strategy
This seems to be what people are saying... and what it looks like with the increasing "bets" Wink

Quote
... and it also seems to me like it only performs well when the market is moving in a fixed direction (eg. from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4) and makes small profits during that time but if there is any change in the direction or any kind of volatility (eg. Dec. 4) it fails and leads to a big loss.
I guess it depends. The bot doesn't constantly trade or necessarily trade on any given day. As I said, my understanding is that there are some certain "triggers" that it uses to determine whether or not conditions are favourable to start trading.

It would seem to be a case of "bad timing"™ today with the pump and dump that occurred that screwed things up. The bot initially saw this 331m volume drop:

and then got rekt by an 803m volume pump:

As you say, it's been quite volatile today:

I'll keep posting the trades and results... and we'll see where we end up. But if anyone has any requests for specific data/screenshots etc, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to accommodate your requests.
