3621  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2023 end game sentiment check on: October 29, 2023, 01:19:12 AM

20x price lows in 2023  if we were to repeat BTC history would mean $331,000 by year end;  I really dont think so but Im not going to say never either.   I believe extremes will always be possible with BTC as supply is not expandable the contrast to dollar is wider then the grand canyon hence the price dynamics, pressure builds fast with demand.  Whats driving demand now I dont know.  Equally if someone wants to say 10k I would write it in, I'd like to know why also.

I was too tempted to hear that price, $331,000 and yes, that is a fantastic price to be true. I wouldn't say no either because something surprising could be possible. But the chances of getting that price at the end of the year are so low that many people are very hesitant to say so.

Everyone will be happy if we reach a new ATH by the end of this year, but it is difficult to expect it before the halving. The history say no new ATH is reached before halving, especially when it is only a few months away from the halving. About $50k is possible, but we'll see how this market grows with the latest developments in spot bitcoin ETF issues.

if it becomes 331,000 by dec 31 it would be nice  but I consider that next to impossible.

This thread didn't age well. We've seen a lot of members on this forum claiming that Bitcoin will drop to very low levels. History has always proven them wrong.
Those who missed the train while trying to buy Bitcoin cheap have always regretted it. It's best to buy regularly because you never know the bottom.

Yeah he did get a drop from 18k to 15k  but that was it. I am thinking

that we may have no real drops. under 20k
3624  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: October 29, 2023, 12:21:45 AM
well depends on when and how you define the bull run.

I think the general understanding of a bull run is an extended period of an uptrend, what happens from 16k to today falls out of the definition, the equivalent of that from 16k price standpoint would be Nov 2020, when we took off from 16 all the way to 60k without a single red candle on the month chart, the same thing applies to the 2017 bull run, we have been in the same zone of 16-35 since June 2022, this is certainly not a bull market by definition, it's a sideways market with a slight upside.

Now imagine a scenario where we indeed go into a bull run and break the previous ATH, we approach 100k and then one decides to expand, they would face the same faith that those who bought the S19 for $15,000 when BTC was at about 50k, right before the crash, the same folks who paid 4k for an S9 in the autumn of 2017 a month or two before the crash, in just a few months both the S9 and the S19 lost 2/3 of their price tag.

Of course, expanding in the form of adding more space, buying a transformer or any investment in the infrastructure is always best around bull markets, since you would spend less BTC to expand, but buying mining gears at 3-4x the price they were going for a few months back has always turned out to be a terrible idea.

Quote
If I could magically add the 500kwatt transformer and the Tesla chargers by mid November I would and I would order

s19xp's
s21s
t21s
m60's
L7's

By mid November we will likely still have reasonably stable gear prices, IMO, that would still be a good point of entry, actually, right now is a good time if the power rate is right, but when the S19xp starts selling for 10-15k I would steer clear as that would most likely be the sign of us approaching the end of the road.

1) Our solar is grid tied and does 1300kwatts a day in the summer and 1000 kwatts a day in the winter. but everything feeds inline with the transformer which can safely do 320x24 = 7680 kwatts a day.

translation.  the 700 x  400 watt panels allow us about 16 s19xps 24/7/365

just about 50 kwatts an hour for 'free'

the 320 transformer is the master cap.  it does the whole complex 440v 220v 110v

So in the summer some of the buildings use ac. which means the trans can not do as much in the summer.

t21 vs s21

here is our philosophy we do 3  or 4 tiers of gear.

poor mediocre good best.

So at this moment

we have
s19xps= best              on high 22 watt gear
s19 pro = good            on high 29 watt gear
s19       = mediocre      on high 33 watt gear
s17 = poor                   on low 33 watt gear

so we will restructure the tiers

s21
t21
s19xp
s19 pro
s19

no more s17

less risk as going all in on any gear could mean oh my good this sucks we are fucked.
3625  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Safe 3 New Hardware Wallet on: October 28, 2023, 10:34:48 PM
Everyone watch out from any emails coming from Trezor or similar sources!
There are some news about new Trezor Phishing scam campaign, and there is a chance trezor database was breached, but they are investigating this.
"According to Trezor’s brand ambassador, Josef Tetek, the firm is aware of the ongoing phishing campaign and is actively looking into it." mentioned in the article, but why haven't they informed their users about this possible phishing threat yet? And this is done by anonymous blockchain sleuth ZachXBT.

This is exactly why I prefer purchasing any devices, especially hardware wallets locally with cash, this leaves almost zero traces or with personal information.
How does a cash purchase leave no trace or personal information? What about the CCTV cameras installed in stores and resellers? In the same way, hidden or high-definition cameras can be installed at the cash registers and then, based on the photo of the person, they will find a way to find the owner of the hardware wallet device. Can’t be as confident as possible in privacy in the age of high technology.

Also, it is not always possible to buy a hardware wallet device in your location and then you will inevitably have to buy online. In this case, it is better to act as the hero of this story in the article and register a separate email address for purchase from manufacturer (Trezor, for example), which you should not use anywhere else and never open emails from this email in order to avoid phishing emails. Only if you don't make a purchase from Trezor and don't confirm this action.

if you wear a covid mask and a baseball cap gloves and black sweatpants with black boots and walk out of the store get in a bike and into a location without cameras . you would likely be okay.
3626  Economy / Economics / Re: Btc vs dollars on: October 28, 2023, 09:15:44 PM
Presently, should we say it's good the way bitcoin its been tied to dollars? Dollars is not backed up with any resources but to my understanding, bitcoin is a product of great energy surge. We shouldn't let bitcoin tied to dollars but bitcoin standing on its own. What could decide the durability and value of bitcoin? I have some ideas..

If btc was tied to the dollar it would be worth far less than it is.
3627  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bull season started? on: October 28, 2023, 09:00:15 PM
The recent surge in BTC to the $35k region has led many to believe that the bull market is back. Some analysts believe this is just the effect of historical October patterns, and we may see a significant pullback for accumulation and liquidity purposes before the bull season kicks off. I'm confused, which is why I'm here. What's your opinion, fellow traders?"

First off we have 5 players.
1) fomo chaser
2) Dca and hodl
3) buy the dip and hodl
4) day trader
5) miner

1) If you are a fomo chaser you are in after and above 50k so you are in bear but a hopeful bear.
2) If you are a dca and hodl this is bull I believe any date you picked ever and do a weekly buy you are ahead so bull.
3) buy the dip and hodl you got in at 18k or 16k this is bull
4) day trader clueless crazed and impossible to tell what it is for them
5) miner has subsets depends on power and infrastructure cost. I call this a relief rally for most miners.

so 2 bulls
and 1 bear
with 1 you never can tell
and 1 hopefully relieved
3628  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin address referencing system on: October 28, 2023, 08:49:48 PM
wallet address: DubemIfedigbo001
There are generally three main problems with ideas like this.
First is the centralization of such database that stores address+short_string duo which introduces a lot of problems from censorship to going down or giving false information.

Second is fake information that can be injected into the database without any control. Imagine we start this database and someone is faster than me and takes over my username (pooya87) and associates it with their own address. Now anybody who wants to pay me would go there and search my username and finds someone else's address instead of mine and I can't change that.
You may argue that they can contact me and verify it is my address but then why go through all the fuss in first place?

Finally it is the limited size. A bitcoin address is usually encoding 160 bits (20 bytes). The said database needs to contain easy to use words that are short (like pooya87 or 7 bytes) which means we are limiting the number of users this database can support. At some point we end up with long "words" (like the_real_pooya87_address_123) to be able to cover more and more addresses which at some point defeats the first purpose of it which was using short strings to represent addresses!
As a good example if you search my name (pooya) in forum's member list you can already see the problem as there are more than three dozen entries that are variation of my name.

Bonus issue: it encourages address reuse.

His idea is great for a kyc business that wants the same address and does not care 1 iota for privacy.

Or is it?

Lets say my LLC which is:

A1HashRateLLC . Is used as my code to be paid

A spoofer

could slip in

AIHashRateLLC and you get robbed.
3629  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: October 28, 2023, 08:37:26 PM
I've noticed (but maybe it's just me) that just before the end of period sometimes the diff drops a little

The key word is "sometimes", although there is a somehow 'common' theory or rather a conspiracy theory that miners slow down a little towards the end of the difficulty epoch so that in the next epoch they manage to mine more blocks with the same hashrate, this thing will need a dedicated thread to discuss it in detail, my take on this subject is that it does NOT exist and there is no pre-determined/planned/manipulation path of the difficulty adjustments, what happens towards the end of every epoch is only the result of network luck and people plugging or unplugging gears for other purposes.

Expanding during the bull run is the worst time one can choose, history has shown us that through every previous bull run.

well depends on when and how you define the bull run.

For miners this is a pre 1/2 ing miners relief rally

For traders that got in at 16 k last fall this is the bull run.

If I could magically add the 500kwatt transformer and the Tesla chargers by mid November I would and I would order

s19xp's
s21s
t21s
m60's
L7's

We would add over 60 units

But 3 partners and the time line would never allow me to have all that done by Nov 15th.

Even by Jan 1.

Thought I honestly doubt we end up in this range, I think now slightly below 2% is more likely

Imho two intervals before this one and two intervals after this make a range with all greatly possible outcomes.
I've noticed (but maybe it's just me) that just before the end of period sometimes the diff drops a little, but now the trend is upwards and it's weekend (and maybe they don't keep such a close eye on their business).

we have no more room for solar. and the 320kwatt onsite transformer is pretty maxed out.

This is an impressive info (it may be old and then I've missed it).
Plans to expand (ie new site) in/after the bull run? Smiley

its all about finding sites.

I am not a kid 66 will turn into 67 this Jan if the universe lets me .

So I want a site that is under 2 hours from my home.

I am in Howell the mine is in Clifton 75 miles away from me.

So A) maybe we add a 500kwatt transformer if we get a telsa superchager grant for 3 chargers.

we would run two of three and have 200 kwatts for mining. so we could grow from

240kwatts of 320 kwatts add 200 out of 500 kwatts.

grand total 440 kwatts.

I give that case about one in five chance for 2024.

Or B) we find a suitable site closer with 2 acres for a ground mount solar array. maybe one in ten shot.

Or C) stand pat.

3633  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk predicts X will replace banks in 2024 - The Verge on: October 28, 2023, 02:12:01 AM
https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/26/23934216/x-twitter-bank-elon-musk-2024

Elon Musk wants X to be the center of your financial world, handling anything in your life that deals with money. He expects those features to launch by the end of 2024, he told X employees during an all-hands call on Thursday, saying that people will be surprised with “just how powerful it is.”

“When I say payments, I actually mean someone’s entire financial life,” Musk said, according to audio of the meeting obtained by The Verge. “If it involves money. It’ll be on our platform. Money or securities or whatever. So, it’s not just like send $20 to my friend. I’m talking about, like, you won’t need a bank account.

I think this is another one of Elon Musk's fantasies that is never going to happen. Plus if he keeps wasting time on all these other things he is never going to make it to Mars in his lifetime. Which I thought was his main goal but unfortunately he has gotten sidetracked.  Shocked

Musk has discussed his plans to turn X into a financial hub before. He even renamed Twitter after his dot-com-boom-era online bank, X.com, which eventually became part of PayPal. He previously said the platform would offer high-yield money market accounts, debit cards, checks, and loan services, with the goal of letting users “send money anywhere in the world instantly and in real-time.”

To send money anywhere in the world, it would need to be an altcoin. Or a western union competitor but who needs another western union? we already have western union.

Could be big for dogecoin. I wonder if he will do that.

3636  Economy / Economics / Re: Real estate vs cryptocurrencies vs business on: October 28, 2023, 12:18:02 AM
Let's imagine that you have half a million US-Dollar/Euro/GBP and want to feel financially safe and build a better future.
1. Real estate - It's probably one of the safest investment option out there. Inflation rises, rent and apartment prices rise too, if inflation turns into deflation, your rent/apartment price still remains the same. With half a million, you can buy two or more good apartments in eastern Europe and live on your rent income.

2. Cryptocurrencies are very volatile but rewarding. If you have a discipline and don't let your emotions take control over your decisions, then you can probably grow your capital by 200-500% a year. At least I think so, I think that's possible if one spends most of his time on exchanges and if necessary, spends some nights. So, crypto is very volatile and rewarding but another problem here is that you are dependent on exchanges, what will you do if they don't let you withdraw? Another problem is that you have to take care of your coins because once they are gone, they are gone forever.

3. Business - It's like an income generated by Proof Of Work algorithm. Depends on the business and the person, one can achieve a huge financial success and influence or a total failure. But a big and successful business can outperform real estate and crypto investments. To my mind, proof of work is the only thing that can deal with absolutely any kind of financial crisis and disasters.

Which one would you choose from these and why?

P.S. Spam will not be tolerated, that's why I open self-moderated thread. You post spammy, meaningless post and I'll immediately remove it! Don't ever try to do that here!

You can not grow at 500% a year.

Even 200% is hard.

year 0 = 1 dollar
year 1 = 3 dollars
year 2 = 9 dollars
year 3 = 27 dollars
year 4 = 81 dollars
year 5 = 243 dollars
year 6 = 729 dollars
year 7 = 2187 dollars.
year 8 = 6561 dollars.
year 9 = 19683 dollars.   this would be 2018 if btc
year 10 = 58000+ dollars this would be 2019 if btc
year 11 = 174000+ dollars this would be 2020 if btc
year 12 = 520000+ dollars this would be 2021 if btc

it is pretty clear one  is making 200% a year for more than six or maybe more then seven years in a row.
Even my doge score 0.002 dollars to 0.20 dollars is only 100x my investment

Stop talking about regulatory arbitrage. Censorship-resistance, privacy, and tax evasion are bad ideas. We hate that.”

The conversation began with a huge letdown. I had asked Michael Saylor what could motivate greater institutional investment in Bitcoin—after all, if Bitcoin is going to the moon, we’re gonna need a lot of deep pockets to climb on board.

“People with billions of dollars don’t want to invest in crypto networks that support anarchists,” Saylor explained.

https://www.btctimes.com/insight/michael-saylor-on-bitcoins-next-billion-hodlers

Is this the same person who was telling everyone about appreciating the power of Bitcoin because he experienced having $1,000,000 of his own money locked in Argentina with no way to send it out of the country? Didn't he need censorship-resistance to send that money out?

Plus it's understandable that the largest Bitcoin HODLers should not say anything that might get them and their investment in some inconveniences, but actually saying the censorship-resistance is a "bad idea"?

Remove the "Chad", just "Saylor", he is not a friend to the Bitcoin community. He doesn't support its ethos.

If I called you naive and foolish and a true enemy of BTC would you be angry?

“Trust” is a complicated word, and its meaning is different for everyone. I can only answer this question when I start to believe and understand Bitcoin and if talking in the long term I consider that Bitcoin is a safe asset and can store value and that has been proven.
And if I had to choose gold or Bitcoin, I would choose Bitcoin. Because it has been predicted and confirmed that the long-term increase in Bitcoin prices will be much higher than gold and is very safe and comfortable, I think so.

I was on btc since 2012 I became a believer in 2017.

I would have done much better if I believed in btc in 2013.

I do hedge with Silver I have about 14k usd in silver.
