3701  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTCMap.org on: October 04, 2022, 07:32:12 PM
Where are you getting the data from? It looks like it's a pull from coinmap.org which is very outdated, at least where I am in Long Island, NY. There are a bunch of places that no longer take BTC listed there, that it looks like you have listed. Or are you both pulling from someplace else that I don't know about?
I am not getting any information and I already said that I am not connected with BTCMap in any way Wink
I don't know what exact sources they are using but I guess it's multiple websites, and you can always add suggestion to correct and update any mistakes you saw.
Everything for BTCMap is open source, so this sources could probably be found on their github page.
3702  Economy / Exchanges / Re: User Experience - Local P2P VS Exchange in-app P2P service. on: October 04, 2022, 07:23:27 PM
Recently, I posted this question on my local message board, but I'd love to hear from you all.  For those who exchange their bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies with friends for local fiat currency (I call it local P2P), and for those who use the P2P trade option on Binance, Remitano, Paxful, or any other exchange which in your opinion is the best. I mean, in terms of convenience, security, and assurance, how does the user experience compare?
I don't know what is local P2P, but there are peer-to-peer websites that work just fine even without passing kyc verification and you can find them on kycnot.me.
There is also decentralized exchange Bisq that can be used for exchanging Bitcoin with local fiat currencies and few other altcoins.
For Binance, Payful and other similar website you need to pass website, but they probably have better trading volume and offers.

As per topic title. Over the past day or so the forum has been frequently giving me 400 Bad Request errors. I
...
Is anyone else experiencing this?
I didn't have any issues whatsoever in last few days and I did browsing with several different browsers.
It is possible that Cloudflare temporary blacklisted your IP address, so you could try testing with Tor or vpn to see if there are any improvements.
You can also try Librewolf fork of Firefox or Brave browser, and if everything works fine than you have issue with your Firefox browser.
3704  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Asking about anonymity when I pay with Bitcoin on: October 04, 2022, 06:35:08 PM
my question is, can anyone (the person who received the money, government, etc.)
can get to my identity just because I bought the bitcoin with my own credit card?
You purchased Bitcoin with your credit card that has all your personal information details, so your identity will obviously be connected with your Bitcoin address.
One way to break connection between this two is to use some mixing services, or use some decentralized exchanges like Bisq to sell your Bitcoin.
Good alternative option is to use Lightning Network or some other second layer solution instead of mixing.
In future I would suggest purchasing and selling Bitcoin P2P with cash if you don't want to leave traces.

Nitko?

3706  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Is there any hardware wallet which has option to import single private keys? on: October 03, 2022, 08:32:37 PM
Does such a hardware wallet exist?
No, and it would be stupid for someone to even think about doing something like this.
Something similar could be done with importing seed words generated online in unsafe way, but I would never suggest stuff like this to any sane person.

I just want to move funds from software wallet (on PC which is always offline) without going online (if possible). So this option with importing several single private keys would be safer than the option with sending transaction.
No need to overcomplicate things so much...
Just move the damn coins from your old address to new one that is safely generated offline, and you are done.
That is if you want to be more secure, but you can do whatever you want if you like being unsecure.
3707  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Choosing my first hardware wallet, have some questions. on: October 03, 2022, 08:24:51 PM
Why are closed source wallets considered as unacceptable choice by many users?
Most crypto normies don't care at all about source code and they buy any hardware wallet than is trending or spending bunch of money for advertisement.
If you don't care about open source software and hardware, than you don't really support anyone else other than manufacturer of closed source devices.
Closed source simply means that you can't verify what exactly is in devices firmware, no need to overthink it, they can literally put anything inside (including spying stuff) and you would never know about it.

Hardware wallets with bluetooth.
Is it possible to switch it off or is it always active?
No, there isn't any switch to turn of bluetooth for hardware wallets I know.
Only option is to open device and conduct oparation for specific part removal, but that would probably make device unusable and void waranty.

PS
Asking gazillion questions in one post or topic won't help you much and you won't earn any merits for that.  Tongue
3708  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport (FE) hardware wallet review and walkthrough on: October 03, 2022, 08:13:01 PM
As far as I remember Trezor offers a Firmware Emulator, too.
I would only add one more emulator for DIY SeedSigner device.
This way you can test air-gapped hardware wallet in your desktop for most operating systems (windows/linux/mac), and I think someone forked it to work with Monero.
It would be interesting if someone could check out if any other hardware wallets have their own emulators like this.
3709  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BTCapsule is a Bitcoin Time Capsule to leave your private keys as an inheritance on: October 03, 2022, 07:57:45 PM
If you give the keys to a loved one, then you are trusting them not to lose or expose them. BTCapsule doesn’t require your loved one to remember a password. The year that you choose is the password, and when it arrives, they have access to your keys.
How does program knows the exact year that was selected before?
There is a big chance of getting around this if time is based on operating system, or any outside time calculation.
I know there are programs that can hack and change time  for specific application to unlock it or remove some restrictions.
This was usually used before to use trial program version without any restrictions forever, and someone could create crack for your program.

Closed source. Single point of failure. Costs $12.
Enough said.
I don't know a single bitcoiner who would pay for this closed source stuff, even if it was cheaper than $12.

I guess that you've missed my point. This is not about you and me, we can handle an APK. But many will not touch it if it's not from Google Play. They will not enable this or that app install "from unknown sources". It's not about the real protection, it's about what's in-built in the Android phones and how it's that perceived (install from unknown sources sounds dangerous)
Plus: the automatic updates, as I said.
I understand what you are saying, but I will repeat again that BTCMap app is focused more on de-googling everything, and it doesn't want to depend at all on any google services.
It's perfectly possible to use android phones without google store, first alternative is Aurora Store that you can use without real google mail account.
Maybe BTCMap will release version version for Google store in future or you can make request for this, but like I said FDroid works very good and it auto-updates everything.
3712  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I keep my Bitcointalk acc safe if truly it can be hijacked on: October 03, 2022, 06:05:52 PM
Some people on here claimed that there BTT account got hacked or stolen I want to ask how this is possible, before someone can hack your account they need to get access to your email account right? If I am wrong can someone tell me how I can avoid this at all cost? .....
There is no single universal solution to avoid getting hacked, but general rule is not clicking any links in private messages you receive.
Hiding your email address is also a good idea, and you can sign a message with Electrum wallet to prove ownership of your bitcoin address.
You can bookmark bitcointalk forum page in your browser, to avoid getting tricked with fake log in phishing attack.

3713  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I want to know more about Safepal before buying on: October 03, 2022, 05:53:18 PM
Is https://safepal.com the original or official website for this hardware wallet? That's what I found online.
This is official Safepal website but buying this junk closed source hardware is just a waste of money.
They stole someone else work with GPL code, than they renamed it without any contribution link and made everything closed source.
Even QR code encryption they use can't be verified and I consider this device to be hazard and big risk.

is it safe to buy it on Amazon store if I want?
Any hardware wallet is best purchased on official store or in their local reseller store.
You can get scammed and hacked even buying locally, and I would never trust that some Chinese garage will keep my personal information safe.

It says that it keeps coins safe 100% offline < that's where I'm lost, to store coins on the wallet could work just like paper wallet, accepted, but what about if I want to send the coin out to an exchange for example? Will it still work offline?
You can't exactly use paper wallet to send, receive transaction and change addresses.
Offline means that device it is not connected with internet or any other device, except for power or charging.
You don't need to buy this cheap Chinese crap, you can buy some decent open source wallet, or just use offline laptop with fresh Linux OS and Electrum wallet.

3714  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: If btc are in hardware wallet, then how to claim forks? on: October 01, 2022, 09:45:57 PM
Could you please help me to understand how to claim forks for bitcoins which are in hardware wallet.
All Bitcoin forks have forked Electrum wallet and you can connect those forked Electrum wallets with your hardware wallet, let's say Trezor, and you will see coins available.
Some older forked are already available and you could try if coins are available in native hardware wallets apps, but I am not sure about that.

For example, to transfer btc fron one hardware wallet to another hardware wallet, then use the empty hardware   wallet to claim forks?
And the first hardware wallet becomes useless after that,  as one cannot hold any btc on it for security reasons?Does it work this way?
What forks are you talking about?
It all depends since when you are holding BTC on hardware wallet, and no usable forks happened in years.

It is possible to wipe any hardware wallet?
What do you mean with wipe?
You can always reset hardware wallet and generate or import new seed words, starting fresh.
Transactions and address for old seed words will are not going to be shown anymore, unless you import old seed phrase.
3715  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Can multi wallet address happen on hardware wallets on: October 01, 2022, 08:51:51 PM
I still have a question though, I am using metamask on my phone and I can create two Ethereum wallets in this one wallet but with different name, wallet 1 and wallet 2, question is can the same happen on a hardware wallet?
You can connect hardware wallets (Trezor, Ledger, Keystone, etc) with your Metamask wallet and use it exactly the same way but with more security because you need to confirm transaction on your device.
There is also option of using Trezor Suite or ledger live native wallets, and you can rename wallets anyway you want, or generate multiple addresses.
I only suggest using open source wallets.

Imamo bitnijih stvari… krece generalno sranje #2 uskoro.

3719  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interview: Amir Taaki on the Early Days of Bitcoin on: September 30, 2022, 12:10:12 PM
Can you prove that you are the writer who conducted the interview? Or add your account in the forum on the article?
There is no reason he would lie about this, and judging by his previous forum post we he is really Vlad Costea from BTCTKVR, but yeah adding his profile link on website would be cool.
I think it's a good idea he created account in bitcointalk forum, and you can also confirm that he is on twitter with account @TheVladCostea.
3720  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 4 Bitcoin wrongly bridged on: September 30, 2022, 12:02:14 PM
Hi guys, I tried to bridge 4 bitcoins 5 months ago. In this procedure I should have claimed the 4 bitcoins after bridging. Fortunately, I had a power outage at that exact moment, so I was not able to claim the bitcoins on the BSC20.
You mean unfortunately you had power outage?
Let me repeat this again, any token on some centralized shitcoin chain is NOT and never will be Bitcoin.
Using bridges is a very high risk, tokens can be hacked or exploited at any time, and I have no idea what0s going on with Badger Team.

Can someone please help me how to get my 4 bitcoins back? Here is some information for you guys.
Bitcointalk forum is not Badger Team support team, and nobody hear can help you like that.
Stop using bridges and fake bitcoins.
