2961  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: December 19, 2022, 09:38:47 PM
As some users changed their nickname, how this is going to impact on voting?
Are the votes for “The pharmacist” lost forever? Are you going to manually adjust for them?
Big mistake or bad timing for making this change, especially if they win something Cheesy
Seriously now, they are obviously the same members everyone voted for and they still have the same ID number tied with their username, for example Pharmacyst aka The Sceptical Chymist has ID number 487418.
Maybe we should include this ID numbers in next season on Bitcointalk Community Awards voting.

2962  Other / Meta / Re: theymos! Please use the forum account on Twitter to tweet on: December 19, 2022, 09:29:30 PM
Indeed. Lately, I was checking NOSTR, a protocol for decentralized social network. Created an account on NOSTR Rocks. This feels somewhat like early days of Bitcoin.
There is very small amount of registered accounts in Nostr that it doesn't make any sense for anyone to move there, and theymos won't start using any social media just because of this.
I think that Mastodon has biggest Bitcoin community, but it is still insignificant if we look at big picture, and it just create eco chamber for small circle of people.
Point of any social media related with Bitcointalk would be to reach wider audience and different people, not geeks who already know about Bitcointalk forum.
2963  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any other danger apart from storing funds on exchanges? on: December 19, 2022, 09:20:38 PM
Why are people scared of centralized projects too? I thought keeping money in exchanges is the danger? I have Cronos and Sologenic in my wallet and I believe even with the going FUD they will bring me good profits or is there more that I should know?
Other than exchanges, danger of keeping shitcoins in any wallets, custodial or non-custodial, is even worse because it gives you false sense of security
Shitcoins are like rotten bananas, they are worthless, and you know they will die sooner or later, so better exchange them for Bitcoin as soon as possible and keep this BTC in some cold wallet.
Use exchanges only when you need to exchange coins with other coins or fiat, and choose decentralized exchanges like Bisq or other p2p alternatives.
2964  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Privacy issues when purchasing hardware wallets on: December 19, 2022, 09:15:35 PM
The Ledger debacle that caused the leak of customer information (down to their home addresses) is making me hesitant in purchasing a hardware wallet. There is ColdCard that claims they only hold customer information for tax reasons and then they delete it, but I'm not convinced.
You can always buy hardware wallet in your local area and pay with cash, some devices are even sold in Best Buy, but there is always alternative of ordering online to PO boxes and using alternative personal information, temp email and phone number.
But if you are going down this path than you should do this for every other purchase you are doing online, not just for hardware wallets.
You can also make your own open source DIY signing device like SeedSigner (using Raspberry Pi) or using ESP32 devices to do something similar.
Here is one list of devices you can check out:

I've found this resource, is this proper procedure? The guide is incomplete though as it doesn't say how to generate the address from the mnemonic. Could someone fill in the rest?
There is nothing wrong with that option, you just need dedicated laptop and you use it only for crypto, and flash drive can be used for TailsOS.
Only advantage of hardware wallets and signing devices is smaller size and easy portability.[/list]

Unutra nema madraca niti WC-a, a zatvorenici izmet vade u kantama.

2966  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: December 18, 2022, 10:38:43 PM
Most likely, the service you mentioned closed some channels and lost connection to parts of the network.
I think the problem is much bigger and it's connected with Hetzner shutting down every nodes related with cryptocurrencies and that drop on chart is representing 10,000 Bitcoin Lightn.ng Nodes.
One member posted this information today on forum, and I can't be totally sure about this, but I remember hearing this news about Hetzner recently.

The hetzner blanket ban on crypto is taking further effect, in accordance to their terms of service. In the last 3 days, 10,000 bitcoin lightning network nodes were cut from the network. It is very likely that this is due to continued enforcement of Hetzner TOS upon its customers.
2967  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hetzner blanket ban continues. Alternatives to host full nodes. on: December 18, 2022, 10:33:08 PM

Hmmm... so I guess that chart I saw yesterday from lookintobitcoin website is correct, but I didn't expect to see so many LN nodes being on someone else computers aka ''cloud''.
I think it's much better to use RaspberryPi for this purpose or even old Android phones that I saw recently some people are using.
I know people who are doing this on old laptops and computers, so there are many options to choose.

The aim of this thread is to maintain and discuss alternatives to Hetzner. I will try to maintain the second post with a table listing each service and its products. Hopefully we can all find a viable alternative.
I wouldn't use any other service that is similar like Hetzner because they are probably going to do the same and ban nodes in future.
For decentrlaization it's much better to run nodes on your own devices.

2968  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Guide] Decent mixing methods on: December 18, 2022, 09:44:52 PM
We do not have a smart contract here to automate the whole process. No?
There are no smart contracts in Bitcoin but in future maybe Taproot scripts could be used or some second layer solution would be alternative option.
I don't know how this would work with ChipMixer, but we can use Bisq exchange without trusting any escrow so it's not impossible.
2969  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: d'cent hardware wallet questions and opinions on: December 17, 2022, 11:40:03 PM
Does anyone already own it? is it reliable or is it better to go to other brands?
I don't own D'cent hardware wallet and I never used it myself, but judging by reviews I watched, and according to specifications posted on their website, my conclusion is that I wouldn't recommend this device to anyone.
It is closed source device that is not offering anything special, and biometrics they have are actually negative thing in my opinion.
That being said, I never heard anyone complaining about D'cent or losing their coins, but there are much better alternatives today.
I see they have some 30% discount now, but there are better options for the same price around $100 to $200.

I would avoid other closed source devices and check available Open Source Hardware wallets:
2970  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Any Active Mobile Wallet for C-Lightning? on: December 17, 2022, 11:29:24 PM
WEF is funding this development for a yet unknown reason. Smells fishy, because they're the same people who encourage on transitioning to CBDC.
And they are the same people who said that you will own nothing and you will be happy; they also proposed many other crazy things like drastic change of food sources  Tongue
It's funny that same organization was very well connected with Scam Bankman and FTX exchange, so no wonder it's all connected.
They are probably running or supporting bunch of Lightning Nodes, so I wouldn't be surprised to see some big changes with LN, and I thought this happened today when I saw this on lookintobitcoin website:

2971  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Smartino - Android Bitcoin Core Full Node on: December 17, 2022, 11:13:11 PM
I have a spare Android at home (cracked screen by my grandson). I am going to sacrifice that for science!
I always imagined you as a younger guy, but I guess you look more like Vito Corleone with small moustaches  Cheesy
If you can please try if in your phone testing everything will work fine with faster SD card (if you have 1tb micrSD), instead of using additional hard drive.
It would also be good if you have power meters to see how much power phone is using with node, and @simpic I would ask same thing from you.
I am considering doing something similar, but old phones I have are with weak processors...

    PS
What do you think is minimum specs Android phone should have to work with Smartino?
2972  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Could Binance Collapse? on: December 17, 2022, 10:50:20 PM
    In regard to this article
Please don't read and post any articles form this shitty bsv propaganda coingeek trash website.
I really don't care what they think about Binance and you don't need to geive them free advertisement unless you are paid to do that  Tongue
Can Binance collapse? Sure it can, like FTX, Mt-Gox and other exchanges stopped working in past, I don't need Craig Wright fake journalists to tell me that.
2973  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: December 17, 2022, 10:34:57 PM
Does anyone have more information what is happening with Lightning Network capacity?
Either this is some bug related with lookintobitcoin website or Bitcoin Lightning Capacity dropped sharply, and this chart looks like typical shitcoin going to zero :/
I noticed some drops on other website that tracks LN capacity but nothing this drastic like on lookintobitcoin website.

    https://www.lookintobitcoin.com/charts/lightning-network-capacity/

    This is chart on bitcoinvisuals.com:

2974  Other / Meta / Re: Is word to word copy paste allowed ? on: December 17, 2022, 10:06:40 PM
I am talking about this post where the writer does not write anything himself. Just copy and paste a few paragraphs from the article and the link to the source, no effort done and creates a post that look like a quality post with zero effort.
If nothing was added to original text, and if that members is repeating this activity all the time, than I would make report for moderators and label it as low quality post.
Even if technically this is not really plagiarism, it is falling into same category and it's not adding any value to forum or conversation.
For such posts that are 100% using source words, text should be quoted, and maybe they should be posted in News section.
2975  Other / Meta / Re: theymos! Please use the forum account on Twitter to tweet on: December 17, 2022, 10:00:27 PM
We can't be certain if theymos is controlling bitcointalk twitter account or not, but this would be the only way to keep account alive and prevent deletion.
Hall Finney wife Fran recently did the same thing with Hall's twitter account, making a post after years of inactivity, however I don't think that Bitcointalk twitter account ever had something historically important.
2976  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Secure Element in Hardware Wallets on: December 16, 2022, 08:19:46 PM
The device does look amazing, though! Cheesy I'd love to try it, but closed source and multi-coin aren't my thing..
It does look great and I wonder how much money they paid Apple designer Tony Fadell, probably a lot, but let's wait and see actual reviews from customers.
I also said that I like they are the first hardware wallet using e-ink display, but device is to expensive for me, and under the hood it's almost the same thing as ledger nono S plus.
Maybe Trezor will make something similar with their new version R, and there is one similar open source wallet OneKey Touch:

    2977  Economy / Reputation / Re: Cryptochanger.to Locked SCAM or what? on: December 16, 2022, 07:58:42 PM
If there is any moderator reading this please check our threads and review the trash selling posts we're receiving, we would be happy to reopen our thread.
Let me get this clear, you want to bump your topic but only with your comments... and you are not happy about total of 11 posts from other members in your original topic  Roll Eyes
Since you remain stubborn in creating duplicated locked topics, don't be surprised if you get banned soon for breaking forum rules.
You are free to create one topic and do whatever you want there, but don't expect anyone will use your service when you can't handle few simple questions and comments.
I can only imagine what would happen with unhappy customers with complain, they would probably be totally ignored.
    2978  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Introducing Cypherock X1, World's first hardware-based MPC Wallet on: December 16, 2022, 07:40:27 PM
World's first hardware-based MPC Wallet, making it the first BIP-39 compatible seedless wallet.
I saw you are using 500mA battery for Cypherock and I wonder can you say what that model is exactly?
Some people would like to replace it when it gets dead, but I don't know how complicated is to open your hardware wallet, and would this break anything or make it unusable (not counting warranty void).
I am just watching reviews about Cypherock available on youtube, including most recent with Crypto Guide, so I will comment more about it later.
2979  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici (80+) on: December 16, 2022, 07:27:35 PM

2980  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Secure Element in Hardware Wallets on: December 16, 2022, 07:12:21 PM
One good thing after US semiconductor sanctions is that we are facing big push for open source RISC-V chip architecture, that is ironically first conceived in US, Berkeley, in 2010.
Chinese government and private sector (probably other countries under sanctions) are now all working together to avoid US sanctions, and they are indirectly helping production of open source chips.
RISC-V chips could soon be real competition for Intel and AMD chips, and we could see fully open source devices soon, both hardware and software, and this could be used for hardware wallets in future.
Trezor is working on new generation wallet with their new TROPIC01 chip, but they could face competition from China soon.
It'0s not directly related to hardware wallets, but you can read full article below:
