3781  Other / Meta / Re: A blog for BitcoinTalk on: September 22, 2022, 01:31:51 PM
Here is my question - Who would be interested in reading a weekly or biweekly blog (mini-series) about what goes on here on the forum?
I wouldn't be interested to read blog that is released weekly, and I doubt there would be much to write about in this short amount of time.
That doesn't mean that I am totally against the Blog idea, but it needs to be carefully planned and maybe written once per month.
I can't follow all discussions in forum, so I would be interesting to check the forum news and see if I missed something important.
btw anyone knows what is happening with Cyrus TheBitcoinTalkShow project and is next episode coming out?

That'd be cool, but is there really an advantage of creating a separate blog, versus just creating a typical topic(probably on the Meta section)?
Or we could combine both, adding top news release in forum top bar with clicks directing to separate bitcointalk.org/blog page.
Difference is that you can't write anything on blog page, it's just informative post with stats and source links in forum.
3782  Other / Meta / Re: BSV subforum on: September 22, 2022, 01:22:36 PM
Would people be supportive of creating a sub-forum for investigating/exposing Craig Wright and his BSV scam for the protection of Bitcoin and Bitcoiners?
Sure why not, but don't we already have few topics in Scam Accusations section that are dedicated to BSV scam?
If we are going to create special sub-forum for CSW scam, than we should think about creating few other sub-forums people demanded several times.

Most of the people doing this work have been coordinating on twitter and reddit,  but BSV scammers have been flooding the platforms with false reports and have successfully knocked out more than a couple account thanks to idiotic and/or artificially-idiotic (AI) report processing. There is also a real risk that the scammers simply buy off the platforms (e.g. in the case of reddit) or their staff (e.g. in the case of twitter) to achieve their end.
They have few cult supporters even in bitcointalk forum and I am sure they will flood whatever topics in forum if CSW cult leader command them.
Creating new forum accounts is easy and they can always reactivate bunch of old accounts for attacks.

We could obviously setup a separate forum but there is a lot of work that goes into maintaining something like that which is already done by Bitcointalk.
Making new forum for this is a waste of time in my opinion.
3783  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: AirGap wallet- Self custody made simple and secure - Protect your crypto offline on: September 21, 2022, 08:32:10 PM
AirGap Vault is interoperable with these wallets
I am not so much interested in metamask, but is Sparrow wallet, Blue wallet and Specter wallet only supported Bitcoin wallets, and there is no support for Electrum?
This is one of the most popular bitcoin wallets and there is both desktop and mobile version available.

I have one old-new smartphone and I was thinking of testing it with AirGap.
My question is, do I have to disable all internet connection, wifi, remove sim cards, when using this mobile with AirGap wallet?
I didn't saw any explanation about this in step by step guide.

PS
I would suggest adding Vault app to open source android stores like Fdroid or IzzyOnDroid.
3784  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What's the best VPS for a crypto app? on: September 21, 2022, 08:25:00 PM
After compare a lot of VPS from my point of view AWS is the best option, but when we read their TOS looks like they don't like at all the Crypto applications.
You should definitely avoid using Hetzner that publicly said they will terminate every activity related with cryptocurrencies.
I have developer friend who used various VPS servers for crypto related stuff and he didn't have any problem with Vultr and Contabo, but I didn't ask him recently if there was some changes.
It's best to read tos page before signing any contracts and talk with their support fo clarification, but i would check lowendbox.com website for good deals.
3785  Economy / Reputation / Re: Royse777 is Casino Critique on: September 21, 2022, 07:44:51 PM
Stop lying.  You have me on ignore because I've criticized your abuse of the trust system.  It's all documented in black and white, including your retaliatory exclusion of me in your trust list.  So now you've proven that not only are you thin-skinned, but also dishonest about it.  Not a good look for a DT member, if you ask me.
Surprise surprise... trollybad did the same thing with me just because I criticized him, as if I care... but this just proves he is abusing his Default Troll membership.
I wouldn't be surprised if he was the one who created or initiated bunch of this newbie alt accounts and accusation topics about Casino Critique.
This is his loooong list, it can't even fit one post:

3786  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Looking for payment provider on: September 21, 2022, 07:38:33 PM
We want to consult with you about payment systems. The point is that we want to regularly add new coins, but we don't want to raise a node for each of them. We already use one company that allows us to process payments, but they have limitations (for example, you need to get a new address for each deposit, and we cannot assign a permanent address to a user). We would be grateful if you could point us to a reliable service provider that does not have the limitations mentioned above, works quickly and efficiently, and does not charge high commissions for their services. Perhaps you are a representative of such a company or you have a different solution to our problem. Write to us, we will be glad to any advice and suggestions!
What coins do you want to support, other than Bitcoin?
I can only vouch for open source payment processor BTCPay Server and Cypherpunkpay that are mostly Bitcoin and LN based,
but recently one forum member VSYS Host made a topic about new open-source payment processor called SHKeeper.
I know they are supporting some altcoins but I am not sure about all the details with addresses and I didn't try this service myself.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5413455.0

You could probably use some third party custodial service that supports more coins, but I am not going to give any suggestions about that.

3787  Economy / Exchanges / Re: No KYC Debit card 2022? on: September 21, 2022, 07:25:18 PM
No KYC Debit card 2022?
with a low limit(200€ - 1000€\m)
There was CoinDebit card and it worked fine during beta testing for lower amounts of money, but they temporarily shut down their service and issued refund to their customers, while they transition to the new card provider.
There was virtual card and physical card that was available only for United States.
Keep an eye on their website and twitter acocunt @Coin_debit for new announcements.
https://www.coindebit.io/announcement

Watch out for scams that use similar cards schemes to steal money from people, and don't expect to see many non-kyc cards in 2022.
3788  Economy / Reputation / Re: Royse777 is Casino Critique on: September 21, 2022, 07:00:49 PM
There is also a "chips sold" indicator on their website that goes up to 9,499.
I think that few hundred chips should be given for free to various forum members.
This chips are not ''altcoin'' because they are not on any blockchain I think, and I could hardly call this a bribe.

Try again: PRIVACY. Until I see a reason not to, I respect people's privacy.
You of all people should appreciate that, given that you're hiding behind an alt account. Feel free to PM me who's alt you are, and I'll respect your privacy too.
Why don't you simply ''admit'' that you received 1 million dollars in Bitcoin to keep the secret of original Casino Critique owner, and everyone else did the same  Cheesy
Owner must be a very rich man when he could bribe many DT members with so much money...
Real question is who is the real notwhatyouthink, but then you search who had the biggest argument with Royse and you will probably find him easily, he is still obsessed with him.

notwhatyouthink is dead.
long live the notwhatyouthink.
3789  Other / Meta / Re: Archival section moderation policy on: September 21, 2022, 06:46:29 PM
I tend to clean the Archival section once in a while.
So there is no backup of any kind for topics deleted and cleaned from Archival?
I noticed a lot of topics with Delete title and simple dots (.) topics that are not deleted for years and they stay in Archival.
If I report some topics like that will they be deleted/purged from Archival or not?

Here are few recent examples I found not deleted:

3790  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Improvement - My Wild Idea/Suggestion. on: September 21, 2022, 06:36:51 PM
The idea is simple, reconfigure the forum, as well as the merit system, reconfigure it so that if a user does not earn atleast 1 merit in 120 days, that user drops he's current rank for the lower one, and if in another 120 days, the user still does not earn 1 merit, he or she again drops the current rank for the one lower, just like that until that user is back to newbie... This can only apply to  junior Members rank and above.
It's not a bad idea to introduce some kind of negative points for inactivity, but you have to think that some good users are not active all the time in forum.
Imagine having some developer who is posting periodically with update of his project, and he needs to upload images.
Now after period of inactivity he is back to newbie rank and he can't post images again, so you would have to separate good from bad users and that is not easy to do.

1. It will drastically reduce shitposting
I don't think it will create any drastic changes.
Spammers and trolls will still find a way to earn one merit every now and end to continue shitposting.
3791  Other / Meta / Re: There's something I don't really understand on: September 21, 2022, 06:27:46 PM
Is the site gonna replace bitcointalk or is that gonna be a new name?
If it's another platform entirely, are we all still gonna register there?
What is this platform gonna be about? Bitcoin?
Original plan was that epochtalk totally replace this old SMF forum, with major design changes and security improvements.
Every data should transition there including domain, profiles with ranks, merits, trust feedback and compatibility with mobile devices.
It's easier said than done, and I am fine with using this good old software.

By now, I'm totally okay with sticking to this old SMF forum forever.
Forever?! Or for the rest of your life?
Unless you plan to transition yourself in metaverse to ''live forever'', but I am not sure they bitcointalk there Cheesy

3792  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: sphinx - lightning hardware wallet on: September 20, 2022, 06:43:41 PM
accidentally came across this new lightning hardware wallet today. this is based on the validating lightning signer.
since i am a noob in the technical stuff, can anyone here say something more about the device?
I saw this being released few days ago but I didn't understand how it works  Cheesy
What I know is they are using ESP32 device as a hardware signer, and I recently used similar device (ttgo t-display) to create DIY LNBits bitcoin hardware wallet, so I guess they are doing something similar.
According to tweet you posted multisig lightning network is coming soon, and hardware they used can be purchased for just a few bucks  Smiley
Are there any instructions how to do it, other than what is posted on their github page?
3793  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Urgent!!! Lost 2FA Code 😰 on: September 20, 2022, 06:32:51 PM
Hello! I have a problem… I have been locked out of my freebitcoin account because I changed my phone and lost the Google authenticator app. I tried to do the 2FA reset, but the links I got in the reset emails didn’t work. It says “invalid value param: number”. I am pretty sure that I used my phone number as recovery number since it was also shown in the emails saying “ a 6-digits code will be sent to this number”. However I never got a text message. Would anyone help me with this issue?  Thank you ! 🙏🏼😥
For support you should really contact Freebitcoin directly, but I would strongly suggest that you stop using Google authenicator and switch to better open source alternatives like Aegis.
You can (and you should) easily export all your 2fa codes from Aegis to any other device as a backup, and than you can import them in case you lost your phone.
There is even some 2fa software that can work on desktop/laptop computers, and you can even use KeePass for this purpose.
3794  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need a practical instruction and advice about starting using BTC. on: September 20, 2022, 06:14:20 PM
1. Can one use BTC now but claim forks later for all previous years?
Or is it so that when one spends BTC, it authomatically makes it impossible to claim forks?
I wouldn't worry or think about bitcoin forks at all.
For any fork you need to have bitcoin on your own address on the date when snapshot is done and fork happens.
I doubt any new Bitcoin forks will show up in near future, unless some crazy bad moves happen with moving from proof of work to proof of stake, but chances for that are minimal.
One more option to have hard fork is if Bitcoin adds privacy by default, but this is also unlikely to happen at this moment.

2. Moving to a new wallet. Which wallet is safe, convenient and simple to use for a non-advanced user like me?
Use only open source wallet that is tested by many users, for example Electrum is a good choice, and it should work fine with all possible forks in future.
You can transfer BTC between two wallets by simple send of transaction, but exporting and importing private key is not really moving of coins.
3795  Economy / Reputation / Re: Royse777 is Casino Critique on: September 20, 2022, 03:47:45 PM
To those of you who are concerned about the reputation of CasinoCritique; if you don't like the project, don't invest.  The reason CasinoCritique asked me to assist as an escrow is because he felt that my reputation (along with Hhampuz') would reassure folks that they would not get scammed.  Now, I have one of the signing keys and Hhampuz has another, without at least one us going rogue the funds will make it to where they are destined; i.e. paying for services and the wages of the team members.
So you guys are holding the keys for all funds and coins received on CasinoCritique address?
If this is true than I see no risk for anyone to get tricked or scammed, unless you all collude and ruin your forum reputation forever, that is highly unlikely to happen.
Just don't start any CSW Faketoshi style trust so you could claim that you are the real CasinoCritique later  Cheesy

That's a whole lot better than the large majority of the ICOs, Forks, DeFis and NFTs we've seen over the past years. Many of those took millions, all combined they took billions.
I'm not much for investing in any of those, but I do believe a thorough escrow setup is much better than what most others have done.
I think that Casino Critique even gave some free chips for bitcointalk forum members, they never forced anyone to invest anything, and they didn't made some pink happy promises.
3796  Economy / Reputation / Re: Low quality posts or abuse of trust? on: September 20, 2022, 03:40:02 PM
But complaining and whining about a neutral trust will just get your account into more problems as you are showing no signs of self-reflection.
I wrote neutral feedback before to some members, and believe it or not, I sometimes get a private message from that member asking me to please remove my neutral feedback.
Maybe for some reason members are considering neutral feedback to be slightly more negative than positive.
I personally wouldn't be against canceling neutral feedback, but they can still be useful.

I know you've read [Script] BitcoinTalk User Notes, which I think is a better solution instead of writing "Note to self:" on someone's feedback page.
BitcoinTalk User Notes is perfect solution thanks to great work from TryNinja.
I think there is still a need to sometimes write neutral feedback to member when you are not sure if you should give negative feedback or not.

3797  Other / Meta / Re: Reee: How would bitcointalk community react to bitcointalk nfts on: September 20, 2022, 03:25:28 PM
Bitcoin solves a real world problem. NFTs, to me, are similar to altcoins, ICOs, DeFi, Forks and all other money grabbing things created to make the creator rich.
I have similar opinion like you about this, but this time NFT hype was much broader so you could even find NBA clubs and other sport teams introducing their won NFTs.
Problem I had was that most of this was build on crap ethereum blockchain, and we saw easy it was for this NFTs to be stolen, if hardware wallet was not used.
I am not sure if anything built on top of Bitcoin blockchain would have similar flaws or not, but let's not forget super high eth transaction fees that made any nft transaction almost impossible for regular people.

BTW Loyce, not sure if you were aware of this, but everybody who gets married gets a marriage certificate...
That is just modern legal stuff, and I am sure not going to use NFT for that.
Not long ago you didn't need to have any special certificate to prove you are married.
Than again you didn't need a license to ride a horse, or to own a gun, now you almost need a license for breathing and walking.
I don't think that NFT is some revolutionary new thing that will change world in any way, and I sure wont compare with with electric vehicles that is probably causing more harm than people think.
But hey, let's wait few years and will see how many people will actually drive (electric) cars and use NFTs.  Cheesy
3798  Other / Meta / Re: Attaining legendary rank - is that the end? on: September 20, 2022, 03:04:32 PM
Can we conclude that not all legendaries are knowledgeable in the forum? I myself was scared to answer or quote legendaries when I initially joined the forum.
Not really.
Legendary members can also be spammers, trolls, and even scammers, like any other member ranks.
We all know the fact that bitcointalk forum accounts can be sold and purchased, so you can never be 100% certain if account didn't change hands.
Reaching Legendary rank is not ''the end'', you can still become DT Default Trust member, some people even became moderators, and you can always contribute forum with reporting spam.
There is no rank above Legendary for now, but I know some excellent member that are not highest rank and they still write great posts and make great forum contributions.
3799  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk - Responsive design challenge on: September 20, 2022, 02:50:28 PM
Check the responsive version yourself on the device of your wish
I saw the video you posted on youtube, but I can't open the website bittalk.totalh.net you posted above and I can't see what you did.
Making bitcointalk forum responsive is not an easy task and I think we need to wait for update with new epochtalk, but maybe theymos can make one more surprise change.
I would like to see usable bitcointalk frontend that can work good on all devices including smartphones, so anyone who wants to make this has my full support.

3800  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ledger nano x: Nobody mentioned the 4.25% transaction fee on: September 20, 2022, 02:30:15 PM
You can keep repeating it's sh*t but I'm mainly looking for reasons why. Tell me there
You don't really need any special explanation to describe shit, but most shitcoins are centralized useless junk, and this is not the correct board to talk about them.
Difference is that nobody is controlling Bitcoin, there is no premine or some central authority to control anything.
You can use Ledger wallet to keep both Bitcoin and altcoins, but for altcoins it would be like keeping bananas in secure safe, they will be rotten soon enough.
