381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The end of Lightning Network? on: October 24, 2023, 04:25:52 AM
I would still be more concerned with someone stealing one of the RaspberryPi nodes in a box on my desk and getting my BTC that way then pulling this off.
It's just so out there as to be not something worth worrying about for the average user.

For the larger businesses running nodes I could see it being a concern, BUT since as pointed out there are some ways, admittedly non optimal ways but still ways, of mitigating it, once again not that big a deal
I don't see people use Bitcoin Lightning Network for big valued transactions and I could be wrong but from my understanding, people thought of two possible solutions.

Increasing time lock;
Increasing cost for attackers to high enough that is not worthy to do attacks like they will get nothing to do 51% attacks on Bitcoin blockchain for on-chain blocks and transactions.

I believe Lightning Network initially was designed for off-chain transactions with small or not too big value so how recently it becomes a big problem.

What is better for this is to have a bot where you can automatically buy when certain conditions of your strategy have sufficed. Maybe with those three indicators that you have, RSI, MACD, and BB, you can all together just buy it and then wait for the percentage to sell.
Trading bots automate things and eliminate emotion in trading but people must learn fundamentals, technical indicators to set up trading bots.

Some good trading bot services are available to buy and use.
[BIG LIST] Crypto Trading Bots.
One of them is Gunbot that has an announcement thread in Bitcointalk.

383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another attempt at Bitcoin ETF..You knew it was coming once BTC raised above ATH on: October 24, 2023, 01:57:25 AM
I am not so sure about that found fact now @Reid as we have seen the bitcoin price surge by $7000 over the past 72 hours since there was some news about the biggest hedge fund investment company has mentions of the spot ETF filings coming this month:
I witnessed many hype waves in Bitcoin market and this is not my first time. As a Bitcoin holder, who is DCAing Bitcoin and waiting for a big bull run after next halving, I feel cool to see the rise recent days.

I am very cautious that this wave will continue to lift Bitcoin price up more as well as successfully maintain its price above $30,000 or $35,000 till the end of 2023. It's not a big question for DCA fans and hodlers but it is a challenging question for traders. If they are unsure, take profit is not too bad. Wait for other waves to join is not bad at all.

If they think Bitcoin will skyrocket and gamble with leverage, I believe they will face with Long squeeze in last two months of 2023.

I am sure about it too. Hype effects would be very big with Bitcoin Spot ETF and even without Bitcoin Spot ETFs, I expect Bitcoin will double its price after a 2024 halving.

Bitcoin Spot ETF approvals will help Bitcoin to more easily double its price from 2021 all time high.
384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin were a physical currency. on: October 23, 2023, 10:24:30 AM
It's nothing different with gold, gold is scarce and it was decentralized before not many people hold it. Now most of golds are hold by whales and institutions, they can easily manipulate the price. It also increase the possibility of scam because someone will try to create replication and since Bitcoin is a physical currency, there's no privacy anymore.
Gold is decentralized, a first time I see someone raises this point up for discussion. Everything can be manipulated and it is a long history of human civilization. They can manipulate goods like rice, sugar, etc. and I don't see manipulations only limited to Bitcoin, gold or oil.

With digitalized for trading gold, manipulations are more quickly executed, done and shown its impacts on market price. It is very common, not like something only special to only Bitcoin, gold or oil. We can see it in stocks, real estates and many others.

I think Bitcoin grew to the current extent just because of the excellence of its technology. I am not sure if it would have been physical then it would have been just something old by now. Bitcoin is special because it is digital, maintains its data integrity, and is irreversible.
Technology is important for Bitcoin success because with blockchain, Bitcoin has many advantages. Public, transparent, traceable, portable with any small item like paper piece, USB, small disk, on mobile devices, laptop. The convenience is unique and is so attractive for people who want to explore something new, unique but most attractive thing from Bitcoin is its security, privacy and anonymity for Bitcoin users.

Gold can not, fiat currency can not, cash can not, CBDCs can not.
385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin were a physical currency. on: October 23, 2023, 08:38:40 AM
Remember, Bitcoin was created to solve the financial problem and provide opportunity not only to poor people but also to entrepreneurs and every country that recognizes the concept of Bitcoin and why it was created.
Bitcoin was not created to solve financial problems. Solving those problems is task for governments, policy makers, politicians, congressmen and women.

Bitcoin is a transaction mean that is centralized, censorship-resistant, borderless and unbanked people can access Bitcoin easily. But Bitcoin is not here to solve poor, poverty or many chronic issues for the whole nation or world. It gives people one more option, another open door, freedom to make their choice.
386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin for everyone? on: October 23, 2023, 02:05:32 AM
Bitcoin is open to anyone who can invest. But yes understand investing must have right timing and patience and risk taking ability.
If you have good mindset for investment and good strategy like Dollar Cost Averaging, you will not have to time a market to find a right time, right price to invest.

DCA is a key for your successful investment and it will also help you to reduce time spent for investment, eliminate stress for you.

A person who has the ability to accept risk must never sell at a loss. Because the price of Bitcoin is always up and down, investing should be done when the price of Bitcoin is down. If you invest in Bitcoin price at the right time you will definitely not face losses. Now is the perfect time to invest.
Investment is a puzzle between risk, profit and capital investment so you have to balance them all together. Because if you don't take risk, you will not take opportunities that can help you to gain profit. Although taking risk is a condition, you must know what is acceptable risk and how to minimize risk for your investment. Because investment is to get profit but more important, you have to protect your initial capital.

If you don't want to sell bitcoin at loss, you have to reserve cash to use and don't face with situation when you have to sell your coins to have cash. If you are in that situation, you will have to sell at loss.
387  Other / Meta / Re: Solution to account seller? I think on: October 23, 2023, 01:54:29 AM
If theymos not agree with merit selling, I don't think he will agree to legalize it.
theymos knows there will be dark markets for merit but he does not feel big problems with merit sales.

It is not good but not like a thing will destroy Bitcointalk and abuse can be handled by demerit or take the merit source position back. Merit transactions are public and merit sales, merit abuse can be seen by everyone with Bitcointalk Merit Ledger.

The current status quo seems OK. If you have to pay $20 per merit plus a risk of getting red trust, then that's a situation that doesn't concern me at all. I'm not going to lose sleep over people going to ridiculous lengths to buy merit, since only a small number of people will be willing and able to do that.

As long as merit sales are a black market, I'm happy, since that makes it far more difficult and expensive to buy merit. If that's the case, then the small volume of black-market merit trades don't themselves bother me much, and I think that it does more harm than good to get too witch-hunty about it.

Is stingers still a merit source?

Not anymore. That's clear abuse, awarding merit for political reasons rather than any idea of quality. Only because he was a source, I effectively undid those merit sends. If he had not been a merit source, I still would've blacklisted anyone who got into DT1 through that type of shenanigans.

I hadn't read into the thread deeply enough to see that stuff. Those are better arguments against the trustworthiness of H8bussesNbicycles & co., but note that the current negative-trust-ratings were sent long before that. Before February, the thread looks like politics to me.
388  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be Sure To Read A Wallet's Or Any Documentation Before Starting To Use on: October 22, 2023, 09:04:24 AM
Newbies can make dumb mistakes and with $5, it is a very small cost to pay for valuable lesson. Your friend is still very lucky by paying a $5 cost to learn it by himself.

It is mistake from careless person because if he is careful, he will search to find documents like
How to create a wallet?
How to back up a wallet?
How to recover a wallet?

Official documents from Wasabi wallet like the link you shared above and the one I found.
https://docs.wasabiwallet.io/using-wasabi/WalletRecovery.html#mnemonic-recovery-words-and-password
Searching can give me that guide and it takes me some seconds to search.
389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Currency nature of Bitcoin on: October 22, 2023, 08:38:45 AM
The world is still deciding what Bitcoin does as well as how is should be classified, after it's inception twelve years ago . Practically, Bitcoin isn't isolated from the traditional banking system because its price is supported by USD bank liquidity making its trade as a speculative asset rather than a currency.
You don't need to rely on others, banks to use your bitcoins in a way you prefer.

Do you know about a first transaction between two people, peer to peer, on-chain, Satoshi Nakamoto and Hal Finney?
Did they need any bank to accept bitcoin to make that transaction?
Did they need to have any USD liquidity pool to make it?

390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More secure ways of storing bitcoin? on: October 22, 2023, 08:33:48 AM
As I also mentioned above, I believe that people will not store crypto assets on centralized exchanges. I just don't believe people who say they don't have accounts on those exchanges and never use them to trade or buy, sell, or convert cryptocurrencies to fiat and vice versa. If we use them for the purpose for which they were created, it is not as scary as many people are spreading it. CEX is a place to exchange, buy, sell, trade...it is never a place for us to trust and store assets. Many investors are using it the wrong way.
The fact is opposite than what you say.

Most of Bitcoin users store their bitcoins on centralized exchanges and even in your post, you mentioned the reason. They want to speculate the price of Bitcoin, want to trade and they store their bitcoins on centralized exchanges.

You can not trade on CEX if you don't store your bitcoin there, do you?

Storing bitcoins on centralized exchanges or any type of online account is bad practice. Furthermore, by trading they will mostly lose their bitcoins with failures from trading.

Reminder: do not keep your money in online accounts.
391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Flash Bitcoins r not a threat? on: October 21, 2023, 11:07:47 AM
I heard flash bitcoins (Fake bitcoins) are circulating.
They disappear after 90 days.

Now if these do exist, crypto market will crash!
Bitcoin is Bitcoin and there is no altcoin can become Bitcoin.

I never heard about flash bitcoins but you know there are many altcoins that use Bitcoin open source code and make their altcoins, name them as Bitcoin forks. Two most famous Bitcoin 'forks' are Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV. They are all failed altcoins.

How many Bitcoin forks are there?

There are many tokens, Wrapped Bitcoin tokens and they are not Bitcoin. They are even worse than Bitcoin (Proof of Work) forks because Wrapped Bitcoin tokens are mintable and their token pegs can be lost (de-pegged).
392  Other / Off-topic / Re: Skill Before Or After University Education? on: October 20, 2023, 01:36:09 AM
Skill before or after university education will depend on some factors. The type of skill you want to learn (Online or Offline) and the level of financial support for your higher school education. It also depends on your region or country. In some countries there's a high level of unemployment even after university. In this case, your skill will save you because you can work independently.
The world is nowadays flatter than before with Globalization and with the Internet, open sourced resources, you can learn many things free and online without going to any school, college or university.

You can work at offices or at home or any place as a remote worker. It's so helpful for people who have knowledge, skills to work and they even can take multiple jobs to work at the same time, all in remotely mode.

If I read your website right, you are selling some different packages to set up a Bitcoin node with different costs. I hope you don't mind with my sharing for people to set up their Bitcoin node with small basic cost under 50 bucks. As you said many services can co exist and if they can contribute Bitcoin network, its decentralization better, it's good generally.
394  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Binance Founder CZ said that, Copy trading now live on Binance. on: October 20, 2023, 01:25:13 AM
I am afraid. While this could be a good feature to make money money beginners and for the pro traders as well, this might be a trap for everyone. You never know whose trading pattern you are copying.
Copy trade strategies can work for a while but the market is not static by dynamic and can change its momentum, direction quickly. Users of copy trade strategies don't use their own knowledge and skills to do their trades and mostly rely on copy trade strategies to automate their trades. As consequences of such terrible dependence, they will not be able to detect signals of upcoming market turnovers so they will continue to let the Copy Trade script to do trading works for them.

Without ability to smell risk in the market, without discipline to exit the market and change from trading mode to watching mode, they will lose money with Copy Trade Scripts.

Quote
You never know if that trader was hired by the platform. This copy trading enables a great way to manipulate that market. You may ask why so negative. Well, there are both sides. Some traders may get some profit, and others may lose.

Just Imagine you have copied a trader who made some big profit earlier and decided to trade again. But luck wasn't with him and his balance was liquidated and you lost everything with him. Who is to blame actually?
You brought an excellent point. I consider Copy Trade Scripts is like one type of market manipulation but I don't consider it as a worst you will get from those scripts. Using them and being more and more dependent in your thinking and action is more terrible, the worst.
395  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin hash cracking help please on: October 20, 2023, 01:13:58 AM
Dear friends, as you understand, I use translation. When I translate your questions, the meaning changes.

I didn't buy a wallet, it belongs to me.

A wallet from when Bitcoin first came out

The balance inside is still there but I can't help with the password because I didn't set the password and the pkey is lost.
If it is your own wallet, you should either set its password or leave its unencrypted without a password.

If it was set without a password, was unencrypted, you can access it now.

If you set a password for your wallet, try to bruteforce the password to access your wallet private keys.

You can only brute force your wallet password but can not brute force your wallet private keys because if brute force Bitcoin private keys is possible, many Bitcoin holders already lost their bitcoins to hackers.

Make some copies of your wallet files before trying to brute force its password or use any wallet recovery services.

396  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Lump sum Vs DCA" for Bitcoin Accumulation on: October 19, 2023, 02:39:14 PM
If you buy Bitcoin in Monday for $200, but the next week you skip because Bitcoin price is rising and you think it's expensive, so you will buy it after the price slightly drop. It's not DCA anymore.
Are you sure it is no longer DCA?

I see it is still DCA even you can not make your buying at exact time as you initially scheduled. DCA relates to your available capital that can be broken some times. When you don't have available capital like losing your job or just have some urgent need, you can stop your DCA. Fortunately, you can restart it anytime later and your whole long process is still DCA.

Micro Strategy do their DCA and do you see they buy Bitcoin every first day of each month or each quarter?

See their Balance sheet history and dates of buying times.
397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Lump sum Vs DCA" for Bitcoin Accumulation on: October 19, 2023, 02:30:17 PM
DCA is helpful to avoid FOMO, panic and you also have a thread about DCA.

This A Complete Guide for Cryptocurrency Newbies "The Best Way Of DCA".

You can continue that thread with your discussion about Dollar Cost Averaging and don't need to create this thread for discussion.

Even the thread about FOMO can be combined to your DCA thread but it's just fine if you keep them separated. I only disagree that you create this thread for discussion about a same thing.
398  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Misleading Report on SEC Decision Shakes Bitcoin Market on: October 19, 2023, 01:39:57 AM
I read after this comes out after cointelegraph makes everyone rekt

They do apologize "We are incredibly grateful for the support and trust you have placed in our publication over the last 10 years. We strive to deliver the most thoughtful, engaging and impactful news affecting the cryptocurrency space.

I mean by watching the news what the heck, they should keep their main Twitter clean not give it to the intern or publish it without approval. It means that almost everyone has access to the account right?
They made a shit show and after that, they simply made an apology and everything will be fine for everyone.

Not everyone keeps their minds calm and make good decisions after making such news. Some greed people can make their bets with leverages on Margin tradings or Futures trading and they would have been rekted on exchanges already. Will Cointelegraph make any compensation financially to their victims?

They did not and believed that an official apology would be enough to heal financial losses of many people who trust their news website for a long time.
399  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can the government acquire all bitcoins either by seizure or purchase? on: October 19, 2023, 01:30:32 AM
The government has struggled hard to make sure that bitcoin does not develop and grow, they have made several policies and even created their own CBDC as a competition all to suffocate bitcoins growth.
They wasted golden time to stop it when Bitcoin network has very low hash rate and weak but now after 14 years, with its very decentralized and powerful network, how will governments succeed to break it down?

It's impossible.

Quote
It is not impossible that they have not thought about seizing all the bitcoins so they can just hold it until we forget about bitcoins.
They can not seize your coins if they won't arrest you and get your private keys. Those seized coins are from criminals who made crimes and were arrested by governments in their nations. If you don't make crimes, don't get arrested, your coins will be always yours, no seizure.

Governments can not buy all coins in circulating supply if not all bitcoiners sell their coins to governments. Do you think it is realistic for governments to buy all of coins in circulation?
