Nice bait and switch  Cheesy
382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ZeroHedge on: March 03, 2013, 11:17:54 PM
My theory is that there are a few things going on that combined cause that kind of a response.

1) as mentioned most people went through an education that taught them what to think and not how to think so they lack critical thinking skills and instead reason through emotions and religious beliefs

2) as mentioned most people have vested interested in some other system, whether it be the current status quo or even precious metals, Bitcoin can be perceived to threaten either

3) combined, instead of approaching this subject rationally with logic and empirical evidence, the beliefs that most of those people have come to believe when faced with something so new so foreign and so almost unbelievably intelligent causes them cognitive dissonance and as a consequence they react extremely forcefully and defensively

From my experience there's nothing that can be done against this. Well nothing except to ignore them. Eventually it will be the results of Bitcoin and it's necessity that will drive them to overcame this cognitive dissonance and change their beliefs and start supporting this technology. But until then those kind of almost religious rejections and attacks is all we're going to get.

The "Get started" button could be called something else, like "Learn more" because someone new already gets started by clicking "Choose your wallet".

Haha, posted at the same time as me. Smiley

Hehe and thanks for the instructions.

I like the general layout, but there are many grammatical errors.

And many typos. Can I somehow correct them myself? I'm a github noob.
386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Upgrade bitcoin.org on: March 03, 2013, 05:25:53 PM
I'm really happy and excited to see this. My first impression is that I see a lot of much needed changes with regards to the content which is excellent! I don't particularly like the design however, the layout I think is very good just not the graphics. But this can be easily improved upon with a hired designer.

I'm now going to spend however much time is needed to look through everything and comment more in depth later.
387  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitStamp down!???? on: March 03, 2013, 11:28:34 AM
Might be a coincidence...but about 1/3 of sites I'm trying to load right now are failing to resolve/timing out, and some people in my chat are having the same issue even on other continents.
Cloudflare is/was down, it affected a lot of sites, not just bitcoin ones.

Yeah that would explain it cause bitstamp is their customer.

Works for me right now..
389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New blog post: "Ripples in the Ocean of Liquid Assets" on: March 02, 2013, 07:25:33 PM
Banks aren't the problem, central banking monetary system of debt = money is.

No, it's the coercive power of the state. If people free accepted fractional reserve Federal Reserve Notes there wouldn't be any problem. Interests rates would also be different.

There's nothing wrong with a debt based currency as long as it is not forced on anyone.

Exactly. I guess I should have put coercive in front of "central banking monetary system of debt = money" but I thought that was self-explanatory.
390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New blog post: "Ripples in the Ocean of Liquid Assets" on: March 02, 2013, 07:08:03 PM
OP, you are confused. Banks aren't the problem, central banking monetary system of debt = money is.

I wonder, if other European countries follow suit and keep reducing the limit,

They are. Here in Slovenia currently the cash limit is at 10k € and they want to lower it to 3k I believe.

Took them long enough.. I sent them this email titled "An option for escaping the current fiat financial system" in Nov 2012:

Quote
Hey Simon,

I receive your newsletters on my other email account and I love
your travel stories and the things you are able to discover for how
individuals like myself can protect their wealth and freedom. I'm
also a fan of the open source software Bitcoin that I think is
something you will want to learn about if you haven't already.

It's a bit harder to understand because it's based on math and
computer science but I think for you you'll want to read the
following three things:

Introduction:
https://www.bitinstant.com/static/erik_btc_primer_business.pdf

Article from a finance-privacy guru similar to yourself:
http://www.runtogold.com/2012/11/why-bitcoin-is-tangible-digging-into-the-guts-of-bitcoin/

ECB's report about it:
http://www.ecb.europa.eu/pub/pdf/other/virtualcurrencyschemes201210en.pdf

Let me know if you have any questions, maybe I as an enthusiast can
answer them or at least point you in the right direction.

Best regards,
a private Bitcoin user

Never heard back from him though but I'd like to think I nudged him in the right direction Smiley
394  Other / Meta / Re: fundamental flaw -re-revisited on: March 02, 2013, 10:12:03 AM
this is in reply to the other thread about this which was just locked:

How can i keep the discussion in one thread if you guys keep locking them?

I was a little surprised to see that thread locked as well.  There's a difference between someone being ignorant, persistent and/or wrong versus someone abusing the forum in a way that causes harm.   The way to handle the former is called the "ignore" button.

I locked it only because I didn't pay attention and completely missed that his first thread was also locked. I wouldn't have done that if I had noticed that. It's also why the thread has been unlocked again.

I apologize to the OP.

What, two articles practically in a row? Man those hardcore goldbug skeptics must be going nuts right about now Cheesy

You bet they are. Last Sat. I had 15 minute in-depth Bitcoin discussion with Peter Schiff and a 20 minute one with Rick Rule.

Plus, I was talking to a few other popular goldbugs about Bitcoin who were much more receptive and open minded but would just like to remain in the due diligence phase right now and not discuss it publicly. The idea virus of Bitcoin is contagious and spreading!

This is great to hear. I never doubted that the majority of those who appreciate sound money would eventually embrace Bitcoin as soon as they've done enough research to at least superficially understand how it works.
398  Economy / Economics / Re: Can a Keynesian "demand crisis" happen? on: March 01, 2013, 01:33:31 PM
1.  Can a shortage of a good occur because a large group of people irrationally decide to stop trading away that good?

What's the point of holding such a good? To brag to your friends how much it's worth? Of course not. The point is to eventually consume this wealth so trading can't really stop.
399  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin the "one world currency" the elites want us to adopt? on: March 01, 2013, 03:13:52 AM
No.
Central banks are loosing the power of issueing money with bitcoin plus bitcoin is free of dept. No sane banks would have created this kind of currency.

ok but what if

No.
