1341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's are totally useless once you have a state of WAR! on: September 26, 2012, 10:08:56 PM
What do you think? Where is he right/wrong?

I think your friend is mentally retarded and you should get a new friend unless you just like working with 'challenged' kids.

I agree.  What exactly is his point!  Why is it useless?  Unless the internet/ networking ceases to exist!

I think his point is that it is "useless" in comparison with the current DOMINANT system which is exactly that: DOMINANT!

The current system is creating, financing, keeping a state of war the world over.

btw. I am still waiting for more clarification on my friend's view, but it does seem to make some sense that bitcoin would have to (in theory anyway) be able to finance an army of "defenders" if push came to shove and the bitcoin system came face-to-face with the current financial, warmongering system.

Wait what? Your friend believes we need war? What push?! Please, your friend is fear mongering. I don't need no stinking war.
1342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's are totally useless once you have a state of WAR! on: September 26, 2012, 10:03:59 PM
I am only trying to see how a patient, and open discussion can lead to informing someone who is VERY INTIMATELY connected to the current system and how he can be converted to see the light of Bitcoin as we all do!

Maybe it can't. Your friend doesn't need to change, he can go extinct.

As for the Bitcoin is useless during a state of war premise I'd say there was a time around 10-15 years ago when I'd maybe agree with that but today I just can see major economies allowing the destruction of something like 15-20% of their GDP by gangs of people known as governments through nationalizing all ISPs in the area they rule through violence and cutting off all the other areas so I don't think I'd accept the premise that Bitcoin automatically becomes useless in the state war. For example the land area knows as the US is at war right now in several countries and yet Bitcoin is perfectly useful to almost everyone.
1343  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum - Bitcoin client for the common users (friendly and instant) on: September 26, 2012, 09:49:44 PM
Is there a way to add states to the wallet file so that the client could load the gui even if online and show all addresses and the last known balance? Don't get me wrong I'm perfectly happy how offline tx singing works right now and how that can be used for a secure wallet.. it's just that maybe this feature a bit more user friendlier might turn a neat feature into a very strong reason for using this client.

Could anyone summarize what was said?

In the future, books that summarize the history of money will have a line that says, “and then came bitcoin.” It is the economic singularity. And we are living in it now.

Do you even understand how lucky we few out of all are to be able to already comprehend this? And I just can't wait till many are able too.

Nice post, I enjoyed it!
1347  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin adoption and security on: September 25, 2012, 08:03:33 PM
Well having just tried to setup my secure wallet I must agree with you 100%. An easy to setup and convenient at the same time plus&play but yet secure wallet is a must and as I said in that other thread I'd be willing to pay up to $15 for something like an USB stick with a ready to use setup.

Right now I think way too many people are relying on trusting 3rd parties and encryption in a very virus and keylogging prone environment which could lead to a lot of thefts down the road. Multikey addresses are an answer but it isn't the cheapest because you do need to have a second device, which many don't, and you still need to protect both devices.
1348  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-09-24 vermontelection.org - Vermont State Senate Candidate Accepts Bitcoin on: September 25, 2012, 08:58:31 AM
Cool! Not that I support a small group of people governing anyone without their explicit consent but I think this is good because if politicians are seen accepting it maybe bigger businesses will find the courage to follow suit.

Good write up Erik.
1350  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Project will be making a major announcement in September on: September 25, 2012, 07:39:05 AM
The only moderator action I would see fit is move it to speculation.

Actually, you know what? You are right, sir.
1351  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Quantum Computer Invented on: September 25, 2012, 01:03:14 AM
Reading the article this sounds more like a quantum scale Turing computer building block rather than an actual quantum computer building block. I mean they were only able to achieve two states, 0 and 1. Or did I misunderstand something?
1352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cannot be filled with Tungsten on: September 24, 2012, 11:29:14 PM

Man this gives me a lot of anxiety because I plan to buy back some bullion in the near future. How the hell can I unsure, without wasting a lot of money, that what I buy will be real?
1353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin adoption and security on: September 24, 2012, 10:22:36 PM
Well if you read some of the replies in my thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=110106.0 some think those chances are too high.
1354  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin adoption and security on: September 24, 2012, 08:47:47 PM
I encrypt my wallets data to multiply flash drives. Works great for me   Tongue

Yeah that's great as long as no one keylogs you and steals your encrypted wallet.. or steals your decrypted wallet while you're making a transaction.
1355  Economy / Economics / Re: The Tomato Soup Index - Inflation Sucks on: September 24, 2012, 02:25:34 PM
+1

Deflation feels soooo good  Grin
So true.

HONESTLY before BTC I was fucking depressed: I knew on a subconscious and later conscious level that my savings were being eaten up. Like running to stay in the same place.

Now I can look at my clown politicians and ECB fucking up and just not give a shit.

So refreshing.
It's exactly how I feel.

You can't compare a 1950's can of tomato soup with a 2012 can! That's apples and tomatoes!  There have been massive improvements in tomato soup technology in the past 60 years that have dramatically improved its flavor and nutritional content. In the 1950's, Campbell's tomato soup was basically a glorified can of watery ketchup.  And now it's... uh... better.  So sure, you pay a little more today, but you also get more. That's why the price has gone up. Wink

Isn't it weird though, electronics also keep getting better and better and yet they are cheaper than ever. What gives?
1356  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [poll] Bitcoin NWO's invention? on: September 24, 2012, 01:46:03 PM
Even if the most ville people I know of invented Bitcoin I wouldn't care all too much because it's open source and I'd judge the code and it's implications by it's own merits and not by the merits of the beliefs or actions of the person or group of people that wrote it.
1357  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Searching alternative client... on: September 23, 2012, 07:35:28 PM
Re: Litecoin support - I do not have any plans to support this no - mainly as I only ever use BTC.

What about offline tx signing like what electrum offers? I think that's one of the more important security features a client can offer. Any plans for it?
1358  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Most Bitcoin friendly country for founding a company on: September 23, 2012, 07:32:16 PM
I'd look to online poker rooms for inspiration. I think Malta might be a good country, the Caribbean Islands or Chile perhaps?
1359  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Could a "moderate" attack to Bitcoin help on the long term? on: September 23, 2012, 07:11:03 PM
Actually I think it's good not everyone instantly updates to the newest version because this way if ever it should happen that the newest version was changed in anyway deviating from some rules or adding new rules we'd still have a lot of people who wouldn't enforce those and the Bitcoin network would stay intact.

usually there is a guess or two on here, guess you broke all your balls (crystal ones I mean)

Here's my pure guess: $11.20
