381  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: tell us about your latest gambling experiences on: April 01, 2019, 04:31:20 PM
If I remember correctly, the last time I went for a bet was during Canelo Álvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin II. Made a bet in favor of GGG and I lost BTC0.01 (which was a significant amount for me). The jury was extremely biased and if they were neutral then GGG would have won easily.
382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pacquiao Vs Mayweather 2 on: April 01, 2019, 04:26:42 PM
Yeah i heard in the news possible both boxer meet here in the phillipines, hope they talk about the rematch and have good results decision from them because theirs fans are waiting this exciting rematch.

Pacquiao Vs Mayweather 2 outside the US? Dude, that is not possible. If they decide to go for a non-American venue, then there will be a sharp reduction in the game revenue. To complicate the things, Philippines is situated a quite a few time zones away from the US.
383  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting on who will be BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2019? on: April 01, 2019, 04:23:24 PM
I would put my bet be on Lewis Hamilton, if I should bet on anyone, Lewis Hamilton should be the favorite on that list. Who else than those 5 people can win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2019 award?

Lewis may win the award in the end, in part due to his celebrity status and enormous popularity. But IMO, if merit is considered, then the award should go to Ronnie O’Sullivan. He has completely dominated the British snooker scene during the past two decades.
384  Economy / Speculation / Re: what will make bitcoin price to brake its all time high on: April 01, 2019, 04:19:44 PM
A simple yes from the SEC will see bitcoin adoption spread like wildfire. Not just among investors but governments around the world will stockpile as a store of value

That is never going to happen, I am afraid. Well, they are not yet saying a straight no. Because they know that they can't justify it. So what they are doing is indefinitely delaying the ETF approval and similar permissions. It will be better for us to just ignore this bunch of goons and to move on.
385  Other / Meta / Re: I'm not going to comply KYC on: April 01, 2019, 04:14:40 PM
April fools? Don't care, KYC is still an issue and this may soon become reality

It is a reality as most of the exchanges ask for KYC. But I don't think that it will ever be implemented here in Bitcointalk. One of the major concerns Satoshi had in his mind while introducing Bitcoin was the anonymity of the users. And I believe this forum has to follow the rules set by Satoshi.
386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Here is why Cryptocurrency future in India is in danger on: March 31, 2019, 05:48:11 PM
I am not really concerned about the future of Bitcoin in India. They don't even rank among the top 5 economies and there is too much corruption, red tape and bureaucracy. IMO, we need to concentrate more on markets such as the US, EU, Japan, ex-USSR and China.
387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pacquiao Vs Mayweather 2 on: March 31, 2019, 05:44:32 PM
This time I'll go for Pacquiao he is on the second wind of his career, won on his recent matches from tough opponents, I think Pacquiao will only go for Mayweather because he is about to retire and there's not enough match left for him.

Hmm.... he was good during his fight against Adrien Broner (although I was disappointed that the match ended in a UD rather than a KO). However, I heard that the match didn't generated a lot of revenue for Pacquiao.
388  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Top Rated Buy / Sell Exchanges For Your Crypto on: March 31, 2019, 05:38:16 PM
Here is the list of top 5 exchanges, as per my experience:

1. Bittrex
2. Kraken
3. Livecoin
4. Bitstamp
5. Poloniex

I would have listed Cryptopia and Wex as well, but they are not doing very good right now.
Wow, I thought that no one is using Kraken now.

Hmm.. I used to do most of my XLM/BTC trading in Kraken. The staff is quite supportive as well. Once my XLM was stuck after I forgot to add the memo, but the support guys resolved the issue amicably (although it took some time).
389  Economy / Exchanges / Re: KYC and identity theft risk on: March 31, 2019, 05:35:19 PM
Its too late to start closing exchange accounts when you already submitted KYC documents, even if you close those accounts, I think they may have to keep your details there. That is also the problem of the bounty hunters like me, I have submitted to these exchanges as I have to send to them the tokens listed on them.

You are right. Now I am left with very few options. It would have been much better if the bounty payments were made in ETH or BTC. But then, who cares about the bounty hunters? They are just pawns with no power.
390  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela hit by new nationwide powercut for more than three days on: March 31, 2019, 05:32:27 PM
Know what? These issues are not unique to Venezuela. Each and every socialist country is going to end up this way. The problem with socialism is that after a specific time period, three will be no rich people left to tax. All the rich would have migrated to some sane country, or they would have become poor.
391  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency companies still can’t open bank accounts on: March 31, 2019, 05:28:05 PM
First we need to realize that banks regard Bitcoin as an existential threat. So it is not surprising to see all that hostile reactions coming from them. And honestly, we should be looking for alternative options rather than begging in front of the banks.
392  Economy / Economics / Re: South Africa, leading world in crypto adoption, a high-potential crypto market? on: March 31, 2019, 05:25:43 PM
I don't think that it's fair to assume that the BTC is used in illegal ways, or necessarily on the dark market. Political and economic instability prompts people to invest in alternative assets that are independent of the fiat system to seek a store of value, which bitcoin certainly is one.

I am not sure whether Bitcoin can be used to store money. It is very volatile, and the prices have gone down from $20,000 per coin to $4,000 per coin (-80%) in less than two years. For storage purpose, gold or US treasury bonds may be a better option.
393  Economy / Economics / Re: What can be done to make bitcoin stable? on: March 29, 2019, 11:09:11 AM
Why do you want Bitcoin to be stable? There are hundreds of other options out there, such as Tether and gold bullion coins. If BTC becomes stable, then it will lose many of its advantages.
394  Economy / Economics / Re: South Africa, leading world in crypto adoption, a high-potential crypto market? on: March 29, 2019, 11:00:47 AM
South Africa is a very unstable country, with a high probability of political instability. Also, the high crime rate means that a disproportionate amount of BTC may make its way to the dark market.
395  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cryptopia exchange hacked on: March 29, 2019, 10:57:31 AM

By now it looks like it was the work of professional hackers. Earlier, I was thinking that it could be an insider job, but evidence points against any such conclusion. Anyway... it seems to be that the hackers are in a rush to cashout.

397  Economy / Exchanges / Re: KYC and identity theft risk on: March 29, 2019, 10:52:42 AM
Very valid point. I have already submitted the scanned copy of my passport to at least a dozen crypto-exchanges and this is something that I am not very comfortable with. I think I may have to depend on the decentralized exchanges to trade by tokens.
A dozen?! Wow. Why do you even need an account on a dozen different exchanges, let alone need to go through KYC on all of them? You are trusting an awful lot of strangers and and awful lot of unknown security systems to keep your personal details safe. That seems ridiculous to me. If I were you, I would start by closing as many of those accounts as possible, and making it clear to the exchanges in question you wish for them to delete your details and copies of your documents. There is absolutely no guarantee they will, but I would at least try.

Yes... I was wrong with that decision. In the past, I used to participate in a lot of bounties. Here the problem is that these tokens are not listed in all the exchanges. At the most, they could be traded in 2 or 3 smaller platforms.
398  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How does online gambling operations manage gambling addiction? on: March 27, 2019, 04:09:07 PM
Frankly I think that it is not the responsibility of the gambling firm to provide counseling services. Their duty is to provide a honest gambling platform, and it is up to the player to control his addiction.
399  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Qualifying on: March 27, 2019, 04:03:05 PM
Feeling good about English football right now.  The good showing at the World Cup, trashing opponents in this qualifier, and 4 EPL clubs in the final 8 at the CL.  Smiley

A 5-1 win against a minnow side like Montenegro is no reason to get ballistic. For starters, the population of Montenegro is less than 1% of that of England. Luckily for England, the got themselves placed in a very weak group along with teams such as Kosovo and Montenegro.
400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pension funds bringing money to Bitcoin. on: March 27, 2019, 03:56:56 PM
It is really interesting that at last some pension funds have wet their feet in cryptocurrency investing. Someone is going to be very happy or very pissed off in the future. What do you think of this? It is really a breakthrough for crypto as an investment?
Source: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-02-12/first-u-s-pension-funds-take-the-plunge-on-crypto-investing

This is very interesting. Normally the pension funds make investments in the least volatile assets, such as the United States treasury bonds and bullion bars. Even mutual funds and stocks are too volatile for them.
