i like the idea but would like to see somthing you have already done in order to judge the sound so to say:)

http://soundcloud.com/musicmelody123/sample-2

Here are 2 samples of songs I'm currently working on.  I actually started them a long time ago but didn't have access to a good bass guitar for some time, so they're missing some instrument parts.  They aren't complete, but they are getting there.
3802  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Mtgox auto-signs with a 437522 BTC wallet?!? on: December 07, 2011, 10:04:20 PM
So, let's say 470,000+ BTC go MIA forever...should result in a nice little price increase.

On a related note, how do we know that 1,000,000 BTC haven't already been lost forever?  Is there a way to know exactly how many BTC are in circulation and not just how many have been created?
3803  Economy / Goods / Re: Your Very Own Song (for individuals or companies) - 15 BTC on: December 07, 2011, 09:36:27 PM
Business idea for you: Personal ringtones (30 second personal song) for 5 BTC.

Actually, that's a great idea!

It looks as though there are some free web converters that allow you to convert an mp3 or .wav to a ringtone.

I'll add this as an option as well!   Thanks!

So, who's interested in their very own personalized ringtone?

Support local music/me!     Grin

For 1 BTC you can purchase ~ 3 USD.

Condoms from the Bitcoin  Condom guy are another.
3806  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [BOUNTY 20 BTC] Graphics Artist - Client logo and icons needed on: December 06, 2011, 05:29:11 AM
Hey folks, I'm realizing that i have no idea what I want.  I'm putting this thread on hold while I reconsider some of my branding ideas -- not just design, but perhaps the name, too.  I'll restart this thread when I have better direction.

Thanks for the attempts!

Respectfully, I put some time into trying to create a logo for you.  I think I know something you're thinking but not saying.

Please hold your end of the bargain.  I provided you with an elegant design, and though it not may be what you prefer, there was an incentive for this work.
3807  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin value in January 2013 on: December 06, 2011, 01:51:45 AM
"mining cost always follows price"

What's the argument for this statement?  I don't understand it as a forgone conclusion.  There could, for example, be a large number of miners that are insensitive to price fluctuations (e.g., they get their electricity for "free", or they are happy to pay for the waste heat through mining rather than an electric heater).

If that's the case, then someone who wants to accumulate Bitcoin, will look at the marginal cost of mining as an input to their decision to either invest in mining or buy outright at an exchange.  This would tend to increase the demand for bitcoin at exchanges as the cost of mining goes up.

What's wrong with my argument?

You heard him.   He wants to.  He has a motive...a motive.
3809  Economy / Speculation / Re: ATTN All Traders: Market Experiment on: December 06, 2011, 12:28:34 AM
Game theory vs. Metagame theory.

So, pulling the bids down should pull the asks down along with it?  Or not?  If it's an experiment there should be some goals stated, instead of just saying 'let's try this, it may be cool'.

I really have no idea.  I simply said "game theory vs. metagame theory" because whereas game theory was developed as a means of maximizing the utility of an individual player (think chess), metagame theory takes into account multiple players in a game all trying to maximize their own utility.  Metagame theory is interesting because it suggests that the best action for an individual may actually not be best for the individual if it hurts the group or system of which he is a part.  This has massive implications for economic theory.

Bump.  You all know you'd jump on this immediately if it was for 1.5 BTC.  Now, shift the decimal cognitively, not emotionally  Grin
3813  Economy / Goods / Re: Your Very Own Song (for individuals or companies) - 15 BTC on: December 05, 2011, 01:20:20 AM
What would you charge for the following.

Opening and Closing sequence for a podcast. And possibly some 5,10 and 15 second clips of the same song for going in and out of comercial.

Well, what I could probably do for you then is give you 30-45 seconds of straight material.  Then, after you receive it, you can get back to me on which sections you would like divided up and I can send those shorter clips to you in .mp3 or .wav...whatever you prefer.  So, you could say "I would like a .wav of the section from 6 seconds-19 seconds in the clip."  3.5 BTC for this.  Edit:  1 BTC up front.
3814  Economy / Goods / Your Very Own Song or Ringtone! (for individuals or companies) - 15 BTC on: December 05, 2011, 01:00:47 AM
Show artists some BTC love!  Who wouldn't want their very own song?

So, I wanted to try to do something a little more interesting and offer a unique and meaningful product.  Here is what I came up with.

I'm a musician.  I play guitar, piano, and bass quite well and have a respectable in-home recording setup.  I would like to be able to both get a return on my musical hardware investment and offer you something original...your very own song in any style that you choose.  Whether it's classic rock, jazz, blues, heavy metal, techno, alternative, or classical (or anything else you can think of), I will take serious time in writing, recording, editing, and producing an original song for you.

The price?  10-15 BTC, but every song will be negotiated individually.  Keep in mind the total time involved for each song will easily exceed 10 hours and will likely approach 20-30 hours.  I think 10-15 BTC is actually extremely reasonable given the amount of time I will spend writing each song,  but then again, I'm no professional (actually, legally I am since I've been paid on numerous occasions for live shows) and it's a very fun activity for me.   I do, however, have some music samples of recordings available upon request.

Here's what the process includes...
-  Taking the time to write and learn all parts on all instruments
-  Taking time to set up all equipment, adjust mics and volumes, adjust and select proper instrument tones, tuning instruments (this often happens dozens of times throughout the recording process) etc.
-  Taking time to record several test runs to fine tune instrument sounds
-  Recording each instrument
-  Mixing and editing.  This is an extremely tedious process as it involves tons of fine adjustments and repetitive listening to make sure the song is consistent in volume, pitch, rhythm, and tone quality, that subtle touches have been included to reduce background noise and to eliminate or accentuate certain pitch frequencies on every instrument, and that each instrument sits properly in the virtual sound environment.
-  Basic mastering and production

Stipulations include....
1)  Songs will be instrumental only.  If a singer is very important to you, it will cost extra.  I know several singers and am a decent singer myself, but I have limited experience recording vocals and it will require much additional time to perfect.
2)  A small, initial non-refundable deposit will need to be submitted prior to me getting to work on your song.
3)  Final product can be sent to you digitally in either .mp3 or .wav formats or can be burned to CD and shipped to you at no charge.  Edit $5 USD/BTC for international shipping outside of USA and Canada.

Note  If you are a website or company and need songs, jingles, or original sound clips, send me a pm and we can negotiate something.  Sound clips or jingles will cost less due to their length.

My guarantee
You will receive my absolute best effort.  Every song will be thoughtful and tailored to your requests.

Additionally, I thought it would be interesting to have an eventual permanent sticky in "off-topic" of members and their corresponding, individualized songs if enough people request this.  It'd be fun to check out your friends or favorite members and see what songs were written for them   Smiley

Hey theymos, need an official Bitcoin forum song?

Edit  Thanks to the lovely suggestion by Trippp posted below, I am also offering personalized 30-second .wav or .mp3 clips for ringtones!  5 BTC each.  Have a ringtone that nobody else in the world will ever have!
3815  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [ANN] Crypto X Change Now OPEN on: December 04, 2011, 11:33:37 PM
I am interested in registering.  But, before I do, let me present you with 3 scenarios (Keep in mind I live in the United States):

1.)  Someone hacks the site and steals my BTC or USD
2.)  Someone responsible for operating your site messes up and CryptoXChange loses all of my BTC or USD
3.)  Someone steals my CryptoXChange account information from a source outside of you site and uses it to hack my login and steal my BTC or USD

How does CryptoXChange respond to me, the account holder, in each of these 3 scenarios?
3816  Economy / Economics / Re: Past Performance Not Indicative of Future Results? on: December 03, 2011, 04:45:59 AM
Now I don't know about you, but the number of profitable trades I've conducted far exceeds the number of non-profitable ones, and I don't think it was due to chance.  There's more than a coin flip going on.

That's a meaningless measure.  The question you need to ask is if you consistently out-perform the market.  If I bought at 2, sold at 2.50, rebought at 2.75 and sold at 3, I've got too profitable deals, but I would have made more by buying at 2 and selling at 3.  I did not outperform the market.

To outperform the market for the past year, you would have to have got more than a 600% return on your investment.  (I'm basing this on the bitcoin price hitting 50 cents in November 2010, I don't have the exact price for Dec 2, 2010.)

Define outperform?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems your definition of beating the market involves never making a losing trade ever while also simultaneously hitting every peak and valley exactly..  Either that, or you buy once and the price continues to increase infinitesimally.

3817  Economy / Economics / Re: Past Performance Not Indicative of Future Results? on: November 29, 2011, 09:19:24 AM
Oh no?

What genius determined the economy is a one way function?

More importantly, who are the idiots that don't understand that sometimes a system can be so complex that it's much more truthful (and, less arrogant) to simply say, "Well, past performance probably, almost certainly, IS indicative of future results, but I'm too dumb."

The economy isn't the only system in the world and it is by no means closed.

Oh yeah, another thing...

If you're equating "past performance" with price (cross-sectional data), then this is a whole new issue.  Sometimes a market will go to $5 because it is at $2, whereas the same market would go to $1 if it is at $3.  Sometimes a price is too high and this can have a negative impact on the market for various reasons.  Conversely, sometimes a price is low, but this can have a positive impact on the market because of the context in which the price is embedded.

What does this mean?  The price you see is not a completely reliable indicator of "performance," nor is price simply an arbitrary number -- the price is established because of a multitude of factors, so the price is a reflection of these factors.  Maybe once we realize that 1) Some things are just far too complex for a human to deconstruct, or 2) that the ego doesn't like to be wrong and it likes to project ignorance onto it's environment, we will look back on the phrase in the subject heading and say, "so THAT'S why I always hated school..."

You wrote a lot, but didn't explain what you meant by "past performance." Once you define this clearly we can proceed with the discussion.

Fair point.  With respect to the topic, I assume the general interpretation and definition of "past performance" is equatable with price.  So, if the current value of BTC is $3.50, then the market is performing better than if the value were at $3 independent of which direction the market is going or other factors.  That is, I understand the general argument to be something like, "Well, we know on day/time x the price was $3, and on day/time y the price was $4...but this does absolutely nothing to tell us what the market will be like on day/time z."

I would agree with this logic, but I am suggesting that people who argue that "past performance is not indicative of future results" should expand their definition of past performance to include lots of other variables.  The reason I mention this is because this argument is often coupled with ideas of "traders can't beat the market" or something about chance.  Now I don't know about you, but the number of profitable trades I've conducted far exceeds the number of non-profitable ones, and I don't think it was due to chance.  There's more than a coin flip going on.
3818  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS/WTT] PC Parts/Components, Scrap Motherboards, PCI Cards, Processors etc NEW on: November 29, 2011, 09:09:38 AM
For M, has Vista been registered?  Is the HDD otherwise clean except for copy of windows?

It is a fresh install so other than the OS, the drive is empty and it is an authentic license if that's what you mean by registered.

By registered I mean that you have already entered the Windows Product Key to activate it...or that you have the Windows product key available for activation.
3819  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The Ultimate Mining Environment... on: November 28, 2011, 08:19:56 PM
Actually, instead of having to invest in good sweaters to keep you warm and to enhance your way of life (how do you concentrate while working on a master's degree when you are freezing? unless you sleep in the library)

for 35 bucks I'd buy another mainboard with one pci-e 16x and at least two pci-e1x,
2 extenders from sintech (china) off ebay,
a sempron for 30 dollars,
a usb drive,
2-3 120mm fans,
a plastic shopping cart (as a case, works well)
and a good used 80+ 700W PSU

In your situation, with a limited amount of free electricitiy, it still makes sense to invest in hardware. I'm assuming the only reason why you ask others to put their equipment with you is cos you can hardly survive on what money you got and have 0$ left to invest.

Bingo.

On a positive note, I consider student loans a low-risk investment.  After all, it's not my money  Grin
3820  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The Ultimate Mining Environment... on: November 28, 2011, 05:20:39 PM
So, you have only one room, right? Your approach doesn't make much sense except if you put a friend's rig into your place. Even then, do you have any idea how loud a rig with just multiple cards (say 3-4) can get? You will not be able to sleep in the same room. I'd also not put my head to sleep right next to my computer(s) at night for electrosmog reasons, unless you like to have really intensive dreams/nightmares.

On an upside, if it's cold down there, I see no reason why not to heat the basement with a rig or two. It will even be good for the girls upstairs because they actually will have to heat much less when the warm basement rises up. In fact, they might end up saving electricity normally used for heating and the bill will just go up a little bit.

Forget the data center idea and buy yourself a couple of used 5870s for cheap.

I rent a room along with everyone else.  The rest of the house itself is "shared living space."

I sleep to heavy metal.  It relaxes me.

It's always cold down here...sweater weather.

Used 5870s require additional video card slots that my motherboard does not have.  Otherwise, this might be a better idea assuming Bitcoin's value doesn't drop off the face of the earth.
