3821  Other / Meta / Re: Recovery phrase instead of security question on: September 16, 2022, 09:23:54 AM
The problem with secret questions is that the answers aren't very secret. Many passwords (like "123456") have the same problem. Using 12 words instead of a password would already be better, but I bet then some people would use their Electrum seed phrase on different websites.
This sounds a lot like people who use one password for all website solution...
I could imagine people would use the same seed words for Electrum, Proton Mail, Bitcointalk forum and other websites that support it, while keeping them online in some cloud server.
Perhaps it would be possible to use separate passphrases for different websites in that case, but I don't see much difference compared to randomly generated strong password instead.

If anyone have 123456 as their secret question answer or password then they deserved to be hacked. If you ask them to enter a 12 word phrase then they will go like, 1234 5678 9101 1121 3141 5161 7181 9202 1222 3242 5262 7282 LOL. Let them not owning any online account 😂
I don't think they literally use 12345 password anymore (I hope so), but they probably use stuff like birthdays and other dates a lot, and none of that is randomly generated.
3822  Other / Meta / Re: Reee: How would bitcointalk community react to bitcointalk nfts on: September 16, 2022, 09:15:11 AM
If you believe that society is headed into an era of digital expansion, where the idea of the metaverse becomes more prominent and maybe even a central focus point, you should root for blockchain-backed digital ownership to play an important role in this new paradigm.

If you don't believe in any of this, then I have to ask, why do you believe in Bitcoin?
I saw your NFT project before and I think it has potential, but I really don't understand why I have to believe or not believe in any of this like in some religion.
Metaverse is just a stupid idea and I don't know how that crap has anything to do with Bitcoin or with NFT., unless you plan to stay locked at home for life with your metaverse helmet on  Tongue
3823  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Suite will add a CoinJoin mixing protocol on: September 15, 2022, 08:50:48 PM
The smartphone doesn't claim to be the ultimate solution for Bitcoin privacy, though.

That's what I meant when I highlighted 2 examples of 'expectation vs reality'.
That is probably your imagined expectation because I can't find anywhere on their website information claiming they are ultimate solution for Bitcoin privacy.
Most people realistic expectations from smartphones is to be their all-in-device solution, including banking, storing secrets, personal information, virtual cards, photos, etc.

I may not need or care about getting the highest level of privacy and anonymity when playing a computer game on a Windows box, but may want the highest level of privacy and anonymity when it comes to anonymizing my Bitcoin holdings. Does it make sense?
Yes, but ask windows  guys if they are doing that, or this is also their all-in-one device for everything including gaming and crypto Tongue

I think you and me both agree that just because something is the best selling or best used service / product doesn't make it the best, right?
Correct.

So, in this case a screenshot from Wasabi saying the CoinJoin was denied or what?
I am not sure how this works exactly, all I know is when I tried to do coinjoin in Wasabi V2 few months ago it was not working for some unknown reason.
Anyway, I think we can put some presure on Trezor developers to start new coijoin coordinator or use something different for mixing.
3824  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: $8 LNbits DIY Hardware Wallet on: September 15, 2022, 08:28:24 PM
Where did you find the display so cheap, I have a few of them but they all cost me *a lot* more then $10.
I paid it less than $10 when I order it but price could be different now.
This is not separate display, everything is already included in the same package for LILYGO ESP32 T-Display, and you can order it directly from LILYGO website, amazon, ebay, aliexpress, or locally.
You can also order additional keyboard kit extension and make it look like calculator or Coldcard wallet.
Only extra thing I did was downloading STL files and printing enclosure locally for $1.

Other then getting the drivers installed when 1st flashing it any other issues?
No other issues for me, other than I had to disconnect device few times to make it work.
I would like to see some instructions for Legend wallet, but it's not rocket science to figure out how everything works.
3825  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / $8 LNbits DIY Wallet on: September 15, 2022, 07:28:53 PM
This is probably one of the cheapest and easiest DIY hardware wallet, and you can make it literally in few minutes including loading firmware!
It's not the safest hardware wallet around, but firmware is open source and you can flash it online with Chrome/Edge web browser or compile it yourself.

Only thing you need to buy is TTGO T-Display ESP32 device that cost less than $10, but it should work with all ESP32 devices like M5Stick, M5Stack Core2, ATOM Lite ESP32, etc.
LNbits can be used with Legend OnchainWallet extension, but other wallet applications can be used.

Since I had ESP32 device for long time collecting dust so I tried installing firmware but connection was not working so I had to install few drivers CH341SER, CH343SER and CP210.
After few minutes everything went smooth and firmware was flashed in few minutes, and I was able to connect device with Legend LNbits OnchainWallet.
I already 3d printed two plastic enclosures, so I now I have one more device I can use and they even support Taproot addresses.

https://lnbits.github.io/hardware-wallet/installer/

Note that you have to enable Onchain Wallet in extensions of Legend online wallet, and than open it before connecting with device.
This wallet is great for Lightning Network, LNURL, SplitPayments, SatsPay Server, etc.

3826  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: An analysis on the profit differences between mining pools due to txs fees. on: September 15, 2022, 01:29:29 PM
Have you ever seen this statistic anywhere else?
No I haven't seen anything similar so far, and I see you have other interesting statistics on your website.
According to this Poolin.com and Kucoin pool have highest lost average fees per block, and we know they are not at all the biggest pools.
One thing you could to improve your website is adding more graphical stuff like pie charts.
3827  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BRINGA.ME - Decentralized courier service on: September 15, 2022, 01:04:59 PM
Well, i don't see a problem in the fact that I can live in different countries and register domains from any countries, I have plans to introduce everyone closer to our team.
It wouldn't be a problem in normal circumstances, but situation we have in the world today is not normal and we could easily see accounts and funds being frozen just because of person nationality.
If we add there Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, there could be a bunch of other issues with regulators, especially in New York city that has very strict financial and Bitcoin regulation.
Someone from US can correct me if I was wrong with anything said before, so yeah I want to see more information about team because I am a bit suspicious.
3828  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Bitcoin private enough for freedom financially?? on: September 15, 2022, 12:41:19 PM
Since BTC is not private by default and as such every transaction conducted is recorded on the Blockchain and as such one has to provide personal information to exchanges like Binance, FTX and Coinbase when purchasing Bitcoin, it invariably means your real identity is revealed and leaves you open to issues like this
You don't have to use centralized exchanges, and some exchanges still work without sending any personal information.
There is always option of using p2p trading and decentralized exchanges like Bisq, and other than coinjoin you can also use mixers to hide history of your transactions.
Running full Bitcoin node is great but I doubt most people will do that because they don't care enough about privacy.
3829  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Suite will add a CoinJoin mixing protocol on: September 15, 2022, 10:22:03 AM
Bisq has no servers; my client connects to other clients directly through Tor.
I never said Bisq has servers, but you still need to have some level of trust with anything you use.
You can't really know that anything you use is not spying on you all the time, so it's not fair to claim this only for wasabi wallet.
Everyday smartphone is 100% spying device, yet nobody seems to mind using them all the time.

Wasabi:
Expectation: I can exchange my on-chain funds for other on-chain funds without a link
Reality: I hope that the code they run is actually the code they claim to be running and that they don't do bad stuff with the information they need to get from me (even if they have no malicious intent). If these assumptions don't hold, the whole purpose of the service falls flat.
This is only your personal expectation and assumptions.
I can expect hardware wallet to work like I want, but then I start to get calls and sms from random scammers...yet this is still the best selling hardware wallet in the world  Tongue
I can expect centralized exchange to work like I want, but then they close my account claiming it's tainted coins... yet this is still exchange with largest volume in the world.
Deal with it.

And how do you verify this information? I could just pop in and state this, even if it didn't happen.
Same way I verify anything, based on facts like screenshots, addresses, transactions, etc.
I am sure not going to trust any random fake reddit accounts created by timewasters and haters.

It's not proof that it's already happened, but it's just quite hard to prove someone did get blacklisted, and impossible to prove that nobody got blacklisted.
Dude it's not hard at all if you want to prove something digitally, it's not like I am trying to prove when I had my first kiss, but there would always be people who will trust or not-trust.
You guys are acting like you came from future and you expect everyone to agree with you.
Please allow me to have my own opinion, I am not forcing you to accept anything.

I need to keep my mouth shut. 99% of us grew up with Windows and I doubt dkbit98 was any different.
Wow you grow up with wNd0ws so now you must die with wiNd0ws Roll Eyes
Speak freely I never said you should keep your mouth shut, but I sure won't go with the herd down the cliff.

Well, Trezor builds hardware wallets, and Wasabi is a coinjoin coordinator, those facts we know.  My sharply honed powers of observation leaves me with little to surmise other than Trezor plans to integrate zksnacks' coin-join into Trezor Suite.  Call me simple.
Wrong.
Wasabi is not coordinator.
zkSNACKs is coordinator.
3830  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Scam Mixer] Cryptoswapper.net on: September 15, 2022, 09:34:09 AM
I sent several small exchanges for the test ($100-200$) btc -> eth, everything went ok, with the new exchange the service showed the wallet the same as last time, I sent 0.5 BTC but did not receive ETH. I wrote to support, more than a day has passed since the transaction - there is no answer and no money
6 days have passed since the transaction, I wrote a letter from 3 different mails(With letter of guarantee), there is no answer anywhere
This is one of the ways how scammers operate, first they lure people with doing normal transactions of smaller amount of coins, but as soon as you send larger amount they scam you.
They are not active in bitcointalk forum anymore so you won't get any answer from them, but you could add some proof (conversation screenshots, transactions, etc.) for your claims and create a flag against them.
EDIT: I just saw someone accused them in 2021 for cloning other scam mixer :/

3831  Other / Meta / Re: Identifying the OP at a glance (SMF patch) on: September 15, 2022, 09:29:40 AM
Isn't it ironic OP can't even have an avatar yet, but he can patch the forum?
Maybe we should hire him to finally finish new epochtalk forum Cheesy
I don't think avatar is so important, but in sign of gratitude theymos could always enable it in his profile.

It'll be a basic implementation of RFC 6238 (TOTP: Time-Based One-Time Password Algorithm). Nothing exotic, just a simple 6-digit code entered at login for those users that have enabled it.
It sounds to me you are already thinking of new forum contribution with 2FA implementation Wink
3832  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-09-13] Man arrested for laundering millions from malicious Electrum update on: September 14, 2022, 07:59:34 PM
If this guy "only" laundered the money, I expect he earned "only" a few percent of the tens of millions of euros. I guess the real malware makers are still far from getting caught.
Are there any information saying how exactly they caught him?
He used Electrum, Bisq and Monero, so it must have been when he sold crypto for fiat currency, and that makes me think Dutch police are also using Bisq exchange themselves.
They probably sell cash for crypto and examine all large transactions.

That's a foolish way to mix coins that does not provide you with any security. Monero's blockchain is completely independent from Bitcoin's, and what makes people feel safe that the exchange(s) that are cooperating with chain analysis companies are not going to unscramble their moving factory floors of transaction histories?
They probably found all transaction information on computers and devices seized from him.
3833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why isnt there a BTC browser wallet like Metamask on: September 14, 2022, 07:31:12 PM
I still use Electrum the few times when I send BTC transactions, but just today i thought about, why isnt there a Browser extension wallet for BTC like Metamask for ethereum?
There are some extension you can use as Bitcoin wallet, but I wouldn't suggest anyone should use this instead of Electrum wallet.
Many extensions can turn out to be a scam so watch out for that, but I think Liquality wallet is acceptable and it can be used as exchange with atomic swaps.
Safepal released their browser extension but it's closed source and I don't recommend anyone should use it.

3834  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport (FE) hardware wallet review and walkthrough on: September 14, 2022, 06:44:54 PM
I can't speak for Foundation, but I do know that - especially with outgoing emails - self-hosting these days is a pretty big challenge.
Some providers will immediately flag your emails or delete them outright due to too strict firewall settings. Imagine a customer not receiving a response because their email provider didn't let Foundation team's reply through. That will probably be the main issue.
Sure it can happen, but every serious company in the world have their own email with domains, it would be silly if everyone would use just gmail.
Blocking usually happens if people are using shared hosting, and I am not 100% sure but I think that ledger and trezor considered switching to self-hosted emails after leaking of their newsletter with third party partners.

3835  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Suite will add a CoinJoin mixing protocol on: September 14, 2022, 06:04:21 PM
I don't use other servers with my Bitcoin wallets and services.
Sure this is true if you run your own node, but ff you are using Bisq and lightning network based exchanges, you need to have some level of trust in their nodes.

Why are we talking about closed source wallets? The Trezor is open source - hardware and software.
Because some people here are using closed source stuff and in same time they preach other about openess... I didn't say it was you Wink

What do you consider as proof?
I consider proof when someone publicly reports that his transaction was blacklisted.
Announcing a plan to do something in future is not the same thing as doing it right now.
Announcing a plan for trezor and wasabi to work together in future, doesn't even mean it will happen the way someone imagines.

If you don't consider that to be proof, OK, that's your opinion.
I can announce anything right now and say it will happen in future, like me start growing horns, etc.
If you think that is automatically a proof this thing actually happened, then I have nothing else to add.
I personally prefer patience.
3836  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BRINGA.ME - Decentralized courier service on: September 14, 2022, 05:06:47 PM
I took a short break after our last project development (I publish all my startups here) and have now returned to give community something new and get feedback from the community
Sure, anyone can take a break in forum and be inactive for some time.
Problem is that I don't understand how someone located in Russia can run and operate business with app that works in New York city and United States.
Do you have any office and people who work in New York city or everything is done as a virtual startup?
3837  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: SHKeeper — open-source cryptocurrency payment processor on: September 14, 2022, 04:49:18 PM
...
If I understand correctly vsys.host and SHKeeper are part of the same team.
Nice to see segwit is fully supported, but I am interested to know how exactly are hardware wallets supported and integrated with SHKeeper?
It would be nice to see comparison and advantages compared to BTCPayServer and other self-hosted payments processors like CypherpunkPay or SatSale.

Looks like the USDT supported is TRC20. Which is fortunate, because it demonstrates that not only Bitcoin-based networks are supported.
If you check their roadmap you will see that USDT should be supported starting from September 2022 both as ERC20 and TRC20.
This crypto modules look simple on their github page, so I guess it's not so hard to add any other coins in future.
3838  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Usespiral - Private Blockchain explorer? on: September 14, 2022, 03:49:10 PM
I don't like it overall aside from its privacy-related features. It's slow as you said, there is no clickable link for seeing transaction id, shareable link for txid and address and other features that can be seen in other blockchain explorers, it just shows recent transaction at least in mobile browsers, didn't check in desktop yet.
This is still in early testing development, they announced it will be improved in future with more features, and you can make suggestions for free access.
I don't need super-fast blockchain explorer with all the bells and whistles that can record and report connection between all my wallet and IP addresses.
SpiralBTC is a good mobile alternative for watch only wallet.

Cool project though, I'll definitely stick to Blockstream.info + Tor for now.
mempool.space + Tor and your own node is much much better than Blockstream in every way.
Comparing this with new thing like SpiralBTC is not realistic.

At current stage, i prefer self-hosted block explorer or block explorer with .onion address. But after they add more feature, i'll consider this website seriously.
Sure, but if you are not self-hosting btc node and just using Tor, I think that SpiralBTC is better option for privacy.

3839  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Crex24 out of business?? on: September 14, 2022, 03:32:42 PM
Makes you wonder how many accounts are out there like that, someone got some crap coin, traded it for BTC and left never to come back.
It's probably the same thing with most small exchanges, but maybe someone could try to find Crex Bitcoin address to see if there are any big movement of coins.
This would indicate they are shutting down long before this recent situation when website can't be accessed from anywhere.

they introduced some innovations in exit scams. Regularly announcing coin delisting and remaining time to recover it. who cares if it is possible to access the platform and withdraw coins from there?
I never said anything about withdrawing coins from crex, but you are the one who created this topic and asked a question Smiley
They probably have same message for every location and they just add country name based on detected IP address.

3840  Economy / Service Discussion / Usespiral - Private Blockchain explorer? on: September 13, 2022, 08:54:52 PM
Did anyone saw new bitcoin explorer claiming they are using homomorphic encryption that guarantee privacy for Bitcoin addresses you check on their website?
This is different from all other blockchain explorers that are connecting address you enter with your IP address and they can potentially store (and sell) that information indefinitely.
They have code released on github, they released a paper explaining how everything works, and they plan having some partnership with ledger wallet in future.

I tried testing with few addresses and it's working but pages can be opened slower than using regular explorers, and less information about transactions is shown.
Website is working and opening pages just fine even in Tor browser.
