Multipool or Slush I reckon
42  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Apminer tool on: May 19, 2022, 04:00:46 PM
Its as safe as the person using it. There is nothing inherently unsafe about the program itself, but I wouldn't rule out people ability to screw things up.
43  Other / Archival / Re: solo.ckpool.org NOT open source? My question was deleted for asking about it on: May 18, 2022, 07:12:27 PM
Have you read through the thread about ckpool (the software, not the pool)

I think its on the first or second page where -ck says "Code to perform payments is not anywhere in the included code."

So the payment processing needs to be done manually as far as I can see.

Have you checked the CPU load on the Pi when you were trying to run that many devices?

I found when I first started I used an original Pi and the CPU couldn't keep up.

Check CPU load on the host device and if its at 100% load then it just won't be able to handle that many devices.

I'm just curious does anyone know how much the cost to operate the server for the one year?

I am not sure about "the" server but I have some of my own servers parked in a virginia data center and it's about $1720/month excluding the cost of the servers. That's for dual redundant power,  crossovers, 1gb dedicated pipe, the rack and other security items.  The servers are where you can spend some serious $.  My newest Dell server was $21,000 so that's where the costs get crazy.

AFAIK from previous info posted here -ck uses a dedicated server from https://us.ovhcloud.com/

It was a while ago now and the specs have obviously been updated since but I'm pretty sure its this one: https://us.ovhcloud.com/bare-metal/infra/infra-1-le/ with the default spec, so about $104 a month.

When I got my first one this winter, I plugged it into the USB port on my PC and ran it just to test, without a fan.

I stepped away for a while, so didn't notice, but it got so hot one of the surface mount chips became unsoldered and fell off, it then stopped mining after a few minutes.

I have a spreadsheet that does it

OP: maybe you should check the last post of the ckpool development thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=790323.msg52087086#msg52087086

It should provide clarity for you.

I think it's all luck these days.

That's all its EVER been

I'd say definitely overheating. When I got my first one I plugged it directly into the USB port on my PC and walked away. Got so hot it melted the solder off one of the surface mount chips on the board. Luckily not terminal, once I put it in the Gekko USB hub with some fans it was fine.
Wow, that's wild! And the components didn't fall off?

Yeah it did, but it still works  Shocked

Hello there, got mine today, and I've followed the kanoi's instructions (first I'm trying in Windows before to moving on a rasp), anyways when I started to mining (default speed, no OC) it starts fine as far as i seem, but them it starts slowing the speed until 0. The device is hot (Dont know how much, lets say you can keep your fingers 1-2 seconds). And I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Well for starters, you definitely do need active cooling. Do you have it?
You'd also need to tell us what hub you are using and if you have a way to measure the current draw.

If you don't, you could try reducing current draw by turning the set screw counter-clockwise (very very slightly, barely any movement is needed for a small adjustment).
Increasing clock speed also usually helps, since the sticks run at like 400MHz+ usually.

I have one stick for example that needs 500MHz and very careful set screw position to run best.

I'd say definitely overheating. When I got my first one I plugged it directly into the USB port on my PC and walked away. Got so hot it melted the solder off one of the surface mount chips on the board. Luckily not terminal, once I put it in the Gekko USB hub with some fans it was fine.

Yes, thats old firmware. Latest would be Jun 02 2020 as per the Bitmain support site.
54  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 265 blocks solved! on: March 15, 2022, 07:13:31 PM
So since the last block 42 days ago with 20 perahash a block has not been found, according to this link one should be found every 66 days ....
http://solochance.com/

Your missing out a key word in what everyone knows about bitcoin mining and what that site specifies in its results. "Chance" not that one "should" be found every XX days, but there is a chance that one is found.

With solo, and pplns pools its all about luck and all the calculators in the world will just give you is probability, not certainty.

I am trying to pull  up the default miner.php from cgminer on linux using my ip-address/miner.php i assume.

Am i doing it right ?  Missing something ? Anyone ?

You need a web server with PHP running on the box.

If you have a standard Linux setup, you can check if apache is installed by just pointing a web browser at the ip address

If it isn't you need to install Apache and PHP

If it does work, you can copy miner.php the /var/www/html

Then you can try IP-address/miner.php

If that doesn't work you need to install PHP

Once installed and once you have edited miner.php you should be good to go.

Thanks. I had to install them all and i am at the miner.php edit phase currently...
abit tricky there.. what should i look out for to change in it ?

Sorry doing this by memory, I do have my miner.php working but its a while since I set it up.

AFAIK you have to set cgminer to listen for the connection

I run my cgminer using cgminer.conf in the ./.cgminer directory off my home directory.

And I have these two lines enabled

Code:
"api-listen" : true,
"api-allow" : "W:127.0.0.1"

If you are not using a conf file you can enable the API from the command line with:
Code:
--api-listen --api-allow W:127.0.0.1

Then the only thing to double check is in miner.php make sure $rigs = arrray('172.0.0.1:4028') is set up and pointing to the same port as your cgminer is using. (4028 is the default)

Hey guys newbie question. I have 2 full systems, only one running. If I open the second one should I just connect the miner without the power supply to the existing miner using micro usb ? Also if I cant run 2 nodes willl the miner set himself as mining only or I need to stop the node setting inside the Dashboard ? Thank you!

You need a power supply for the second unit. But then you can connect it it with the USB cable to the first unit.

I would remove the SSD from the second unit as you don't need two nodes running.

You can't connect two full node systems to each other. Each full node system controls its own hashboard, so if you try to connect it via USB to another one that's going to cause issues. You either run both of them separate, or you gut one and turn it into a "standard" unit. But that is a waste of $300.

Good to know, thanks. I've only got the one full unit myself. But makes sense that the standard one is doesn't have the hashboard.

There's a link in the first post, to a post hanging out on Page 3, with all the instructions you could want.

Thanks. I found the post & was able to setup cgminer just a couple more things...

1.  im not yet able to generate the gekko.config file... still not sure how..
2. when i run the cgminer, it showing GSH errors , cant detect miner which i believe should have been GSF hence looking for the wrong hardware..  how can this be corrected ?

Some indication of the output of the screen in [ code ] tags would help, or a screenshot.
